jonescosmos: I am unapologetically a hybrid fan, till next life, Take it or leave it, standalone systems are gradually becoming obsolete.
Deye and Sunsynk and a few other brands are taking the lead. Their inbuilt MPPT are the best so far, they will suck the juice out of your panels before considering any other source. The configurable Gen-Port option makes it possible to have your heavy loads turned off and on according to the battery SOC and available energy from the Sun. Configurable "Time of Use" makes it possible to tell the inverter when to use Grid to charge your battery. Configurable Protections from unsafe Grid sources are the bomb. For example you can set the inverter to ignore grid if the incoming Ac voltage is not within 200V and 230V. You can also tell it to wait for some time (say 1-5minutes) before accepting grid when "Nepa brings light".
We now have Hybrids with 1000HVDC (High Voltage DC Input) both on battery Input and PV inputs, meaning that they do little or no energy conversion or inversion on the DC circuits. Say you have battery banks of 1000VDC that can charge with 200-1000VDC source, and PV array of 800-1000VDC, so your HV Hybrid Inverter just passes the Voltage to the battery terminals without worrying itself. Blue Carbon has such function where you connect the PV directly to the Battery, Oh yes you heard me right. No external CC or Hybrid required because the MPPT is built into the Battery. Many of these functions are not yet available on the Voltronic based Inverters. People should not be discouraged from getting Hybrids, rather you point out the functions and safety features to look out for when considering a Hybrid Inverter. To Prospective Hybrid users: Do a good Earthing, Get a good Stabilizer is possible, Check out the interesting features of the Hybrid Inverter you are about to buy. If all pans out, go for it. Truth is, Hybrids are here to stay. Please let's stop instigating fear into people who are contemplating on startups with smart systems. “ Get a good Stabilizer…”. Please recommend some makes and models. Thanks. |

GeorgeD1: solar water heater review continued. the botman banned me again yesterday
the good over one year free hot water without electricity so far. although there is an optional electric heating element installed, i have never had any need to use it - yet.
the bad a few months post commissioning, i started noticing small leakages coming from the water heater. so i climbed the tower to investigate the source only to discover that the leakage was coming from the inlet to the assistant tank (the small tank on top - check the picture). i called my plumber and after deliberating on possible solutions, we decided to apply silicon to the leaking connection. that seemed to solve the problem until the leakage re-appeared a few days later but this time it was from the right end cover. on seeing this, i was perplexed and decided to escalate this to the supplier - protek power and energy ltd. We are keenly following your update. I am anxious to know they resolution of the leakage and any other issues and Protek’s customer service attitude. Thanks. |

[quote author=allCopacetic post=66462134]I believe Tackling from the source should start from not letting the items get through the ports in the first place. and stopping its sale or distribution if for any reason it slips through the ports. This is possible only when we have Institutions that work.
From the Govt , to Customs, to SON ..all are complicit . SON is stationed at the ports, SON visits Alaba weekly. Yet the market is flooded, how do you explain that. If institutions work it wouldn't matter how greedy importers are ... you simply cannot perpetrate your fraud.
Greed has no tribe or colour . 95% of electrical importation is done by Ibos , by Implication both the best and worst goods will come from that pool. Don't forget that even the good items available in the market are Imported and sold by Ezesomethings too, not Abubakars or Oluseguns. And the facilitators at SON and co are not Ezesomethings |

Still have lot of Reviews here... Incase u need it.. this people are not ghost I normally don’t write recommendations but, based on my recent satisfactory experience, I would certainly do more business with Money121. I had earlier contacted a major Alu company in Enugu for measurements and price quote on the Long span roofing of my duplex After extensive evaluation of various Enugu and Lagos based sources, I went with his company based on price, 100% Aluminum (versus Alu/zinc, etc), assurances about true gauge, and discussions with a prior customer. I paid to the parent company, and my order was cut and promptly shipped for later installation by my local people. On arrival, I verified the gauge with my digital caliper and the various cut-stack sizes with a laser meter (Yes, Twinskenny is on my project). My only regret is not ordering 0.55 gauge (instead of 0.45) for more tensile strength; unlike Alu/zinc, pure aluminum is more supple. Again, based on the price, materials quality, and business ethics experience, I will absolutely engage Money121 on further roofing needs. |

pranil: Discount on KS series ( without heat sink ) models also ? Hi. I am coming home shortly to commence the finishing of a flat roof duplex, part of which is a Axion concrete roof terrace. Abdulwastecx provided the overall design and served as consultant for the frame phase. He may, subject to negotiation, handle the overall finishing work. One of the critical needs is to assure reasonable electricity supply by including properly designed solar solutions as part of a harmonized electrical plan finishing. Accordingly, I have for a while followed this thread and GeorgeD1, you, and many other trailblazers. I have also read as extensively as a layman could about the rapidly evolving trends like Lithium ion batteries and AC coupling (with zero grid feedback) vs DC coupling as part of ESS. I have decided on using the roof top solar water heater, alike GeorgeD1, as guided by responses to my earlier inquiries here. I have read over your BYD storage implementation and your many other “thinking out of the box” solutions. On your trail, I have gotten to learn more about BYD, Tesla, etc High vs Low volatage lithium batteries and the supporting respective inverters. Subject to our Nigerian contextual limitations, I will like to: 1. Build an Ac Coupled system, 2. Use Fronius solar inverter for PV DC to AC string inversion 3. Use Fronius Smart meter as part of the monitoring and bridge to the grid 4. Use Victron Multi or Quattro, SMS Sunny Storage (higher capacity models due shortly) for the battery charger/ inverter 5. Use the BYD High Voltage Lithium box 6. Until Nigeria, like Ghana recently did, approves grid feedback, implement an zero feedback island that ensures uninterrupted PV tapping, even if I have to include a parallel CC feed to battery inverter, as per the combined AC/DC Coupling permissible for Victron name ESS. Towards, firming my expectations before engaging one of our reputable designers/installers, I would greatly appreciate an opportunity to discuss the above and other wants vs needs and methods issues with you. Your can reach me on WhatsApp: 678-764-4535 Thanks.

JohnKester: Mine is actually on a new building and central hot water supply system was already provided for in the piping design.
I did not have much problem with the installation because the building has a concrete flat roof and I just installed it on the roof.
It can be installed anywhere you have direct unhindered sunlight to it even if it is not close to the tank stand. All that is required is to pipe inlet supply to it and pipe outlet to the house and the rest is for it to work. It can be on its own tank stand, which however, should be below the level of the water supply tank stand, so that gravity can still supply water to the water heater.
Note that having it above your tank stand would mean that you will require a pump to send water to it, or pump directly from the sumo to it. However, this may not function well as the tank may run dry, except of course you automate the pumping which may deplete your batteries if it happens frequently at night when there is no sunlight. The design of the solar water heater is such that once water is going into the house from the outlet, the inlet will automatically open to let in water to fill up the tank. You will achieve better result if water supply to it comes from your overhead tank that will not require power.
Cheers I just completed a partial concrete roof terrace (about half of the roof) for my duplex and I intend using the 300L Protek, hence my earlier questions on the topic. Would you mind sharing pictures of your concrete roof setup? Thanks. |

Ibinwanne: When it comes to underground water extraction, we always pay very serious attention to the aquifer production and rate of recharge. The Geophysical team through the help of a geophysical and hydrogeological investigation, helps us to locate the productive aquifer within the confined aquifer zone of the underground water. Therefore, in this particular instance, we are concerned with the rate of production, is important to note that the rate of fresh water production and extraction varies from one aquifer to the other in the same locality. They recommended the use of 0.5horse power submersible pump in the borehole and that is the smallest pump in the market, it is designed to be used in wells with very low aquifer production. There is equally something we call rate of draw down in water extraction, if a pump of higher capacity is installed in a well with low aquifer yield, it could dry up the well and the submersible pump could burn in the process. What do you recommend? |

Ibinwanne: Did you notice the part that talked about low yield? Is important I get your perspective on the meaning of low yield. Did they explain to you the actual meaning of low yield in fresh water aquifer production?. I am patiently waiting for your response. No they didn't. I only know that a next door neighbor is harvesting water from their "low yield" site. I don't assume that my case will be alike, though. Please enlighten me. Thanks. |

Ibinwanne: I am so sorry my brother, we have been working in a rural community, unfortunately there is no network connection there, we concluded the drilling and test running few hours ago. I am so sorry for not reaching you as expected. Okay, here is the info: ANALYSIS OF RESULT 6.1The result of the vertical electrical sounding (VES) carried out at the above named locations showed a total of five (5) Geoelectric layers. The first layer has apparent resistivity of 1519.8 ohm-m and thickness of 2.5 meters, the second layer has apparent resistivity of 37.7 ohm-m and thickness of 14.6 meters, the third layer has apparent resistivity of 81.5 ohm-m and thickness of 25.8 meters, the fourth layer has apparent resistivity of 32.5 0hm-m and thickness of 70.9 meters while the fifth layer has apparent resistivity of 839.8 0hm-m with an indeterminate thickness. RECOMMENDATION 7.1From the above findings and discussions, domestic borehole depth of 95 meters (312ft) to 115 meters (377ft) is recommended to be drill at the above named location. The borehole yield will be very low due to low recharge hence a pump of low capacity of say 0.75 to 1.5HP should be installed in the borehole with automatic regulator for efficient management of the water because the yield may be low. I look forward to your response. Thanks. |

AngelicBeing: In response to this post above, manufacturers spent 129.95billion Naira on power generation last year, it is on the front page, you can go peruse over it if you can, this are part of the cost in the production process & chain that they all go through daily and they pass it to consumers via their products, and as long as the kangaroo government both past and present didn't do enough to address nor ameliorate this issue, the masses are in for tougher times ahead, you don't expect me to spend so much to produce a bag of cement and put it in the market at a loss The enormous Dangote, etc qtrly profits are after/despite the staggering power generation expenses. Monopolistic profits, period! |
Satellite TV Technology › Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Juokorow(m): 1:01am On Jul 13, 2017 |
pranil: The borehole pump does not need to be replaced ( if existing) it is always better to collect borehole water in a large tank after passing through a 20 or 10 micron filter - The settling allows the sediments to get reduced - the outlet of large tank ( typically 1000 -5000 ltr) will be directly connected through Booster to house . That way in remote cases of no power or failuers your client will atleast have flow of water to his taps the large tank does not need to be elevated but kept near the house or borehole That Way borehole pump is also not working with additional head. Incase a VFD bore hole pump is used ( in my case Grundfos MQ) it can run on as low as 100-150 watt
If time permits I will post the photos of my setup. Keenly following, too. Awaiting the photos. Thanks. |

GeorgeD1: hello ferdiwar, in addition to the above post by pranil, your friend could further reduce his total load by installing a solar water heater. for almost the same cost, he could replace those 5 electric water heaters with a 300 litre solar water heater which would take care of his entire household hot water needs even in the rainy season. you didn't state the model of water heater he intends to power with the inverter but if it is ariston 50l, that could be a whopping 7500w (1500w for each water heater multiplied by 5) eliminated from his load calculation. that is a lot of power savings, if you ask me. I am currently decking part of my duplex that is under construction so as to create a roof terrace. I'd like to situate a 300 liter heater like yours there and may engage your assistance when finishing. What are the installed dimensions of your system, stands included? Thanks for showing us this much preferred central water-heater option. |
