Politics / Imo Governor Ohakim Blames Kidnapping In The East On Lagos by jupita: 10:29am On Jul 23, 2010
The Imo State Governor, Ikedi Ohakim, on Thursday attributed the spate of kidnapping in the south-eastern part of Nigeria to the collapse of the country’s financial market.

Mr. Ikedi, who made the statement while paying a courtesy call on his Lagos State counterpart, Babatunde Fashola, said the menace “has been blown out of proportion in the southeast.” “You may have noticed the state of kidnapping in the southeast,” he said. “One of the things I need to tell you is that people came from Lagos to tell us in the east, they call it Road Show, asking our people to buy shares in banks.” He said the organisers of the road show “quoted all sorts of profit that people will make,” depending how much they invest. “Our people sold their wares, some sold their warehouses and we were captured by volcanic market. People put all their money into that,” he said. “Unfortunately, the market crashed and young boys got frustrated. We are trying to see how we can restore them. Our people have lost too much money in most of these banks stationed in Lagos.” He said one of his missions in coming to Lagos is to meet with “some of these banks to see if they will contribute towards mitigating the security problem.”

He solicited for Mr. Fashola’s support in this quest. His argument is that since “Lagos banks,” which caused the kidnapping menace in the southeast, are the prominent sponsors of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, the banks should as well do the same in the southeast. “I know you will support me because you have security trust fund. It is better I say the truth, because heaven helps those who helps themselves,” he said. The governor said he is on a 3-day visit to Lagos and decided to “pay homage to a great man” so that he “can become great.” “I recall one contribution you made at the National Economic Council where you said 27 signatures are required to clear goods in Nigerian ports whereas in Benin Republic, it’s three,” he said, while extolling Mr. Fashola’s leadership qualities.

Health / Re: Nigerian Couple Give Birth To White Baby In The Uk by jupita: 12:40pm On Jul 20, 2010
the story u are referring to is called paternity twins, am not a medical person but from the little understanding i have, it happens when a woman releases more than one egg during ovulation (its mostly common with women who find it difficult to conceive normally,so their ovaries are stimulated through medical science)
so if she sleeps with two men within the same ovulation period its possible for the two eggs to be fertilized by sperms from the two men as seen in the case of the example u cited.

thats why you cant have a boy and a girl identical twin, because embryo splits into two but in the case of the multiple eggs, they are fertilised seperately. . . have u ever seen an identical triplets?,

it would not be in the best interest of the hospital to make such a mistake, am sure they would have checked and checked all loose end before breaking the news to the public.

the parents must have insisted on a dna test. . . how would you explain the father questioning the parteernity and later accepting.
Health / Re: Nigerian Couple Give Birth To White Baby In The Uk by jupita: 12:04pm On Jul 20, 2010
my brother am as puzzled as you. . . but this is not general hospital idumota
it would even be more diffucult for white people to accept this "miracle"
Health / Re: Nigerian Couple Give Birth To White Baby In The Uk by jupita: 11:56am On Jul 20, 2010
greycells, i totally agree with you, but don't you think the hospital would have done a thorough check before coming public with the news. . .am sure they would have considered if the baby was mistakinly switched with another  and also a paternity test.
according to the daily mail the father initially asked "is she mine?" and later accepted her as his daughter.

Genetic experts have no explanation. . . as the baby as being ruled out as an albino and the parents are not of mixed races.

Genetics professors expressed amazement at the birth last night.

'The birth is extraordinary,' said Professor Bryan Sykes, head of human genetics at Oxford University.

'In mixed race humans, the lighter variant of skin tone may come out in a child and this can sometimes be startlingly different to the skin of the parents.'

Professor Sykes said both parents would have needed 'some form of white ancestry.'

He added: 'The hair is extremely unusual. Even many blonde children don't have blonde hair like this at birth.

'The rules of genetics are complex and we still don't understand what happens in many cases.

'This might be a case where there is a lot of genetic mixing, as in Afro-Caribbean populations.

'But in Nigeria there is little mixing.'

British Nmachi Ihegboro has amazed genetics experts who say the little girl is NOT an albino.

Dad Ben, 44, a customer services adviser, admitted: "We both just sat there after the birth staring at her."
Mum Angela, 35, of Woolwich, South London, beamed as she said: "She's beautiful - a miracle baby."

Ben told yesterday how he was so shocked when Nmachi was born, he even joked: "Is she MINE?"

He added: "Actually, the first thing I did was look at her and say, 'What the flip?'"

But as the baby's older brother and sister - both black - crowded round the "little miracle" at their home in South London, Ben declared: "Of course she's mine."

Blue-eyed blonde Nmachi, whose name means "Beauty of God" in the Nigerian couple's homeland, has baffled genetics experts because neither Ben nor wife Angela have ANY mixed-race family history.
Pale genes skipping generations before cropping up again could have explained the baby's appearance.

Ben also stressed: "My wife is true to me. Even if she hadn't been, the baby still wouldn't look like that.

"We both just sat there after the birth staring at her for ages - not saying anything."

Doctors at Queen Mary's Hospital in Sidcup - where Angela, from nearby Woolwich, gave birth - have told the parents Nmachi is definitely no albino.

Ben, who came to Britain with his wife five years ago and works for South Eastern Trains, said: "She doesn't look like an albino child anyway - not like the ones I've seen back in Nigeria or in books. She just looks like a healthy white baby."

He went on: "My mum is a black Nigerian although she has a bit fairer skin than mine.

"But we don't know of any white ancestry. We wondered if it was a genetic twist.

"But even then, what is with the long curly blonde hair?"

Professor Bryan Sykes, head of Human Genetics at Oxford University and Britain's leading expert, yesterday called the birth "extraordinary".

He said: "In mixed race humans, the lighter variant of skin tone may come out in a child - and this can sometimes be startlingly different to the skin of the parents.

"This might be the case where there is a lot of genetic mixing, as in Afro-Caribbean populations. But in Nigeria there is little mixing."

Prof Sykes said BOTH parents would have needed "some form of white ancestry" for a pale version of their genes to be passed on.

But he added: "The hair is extremely unusual. Even many blonde children don't have blonde hair like this at birth."
The expert said some unknown mutation was the most likely explanation.

He admitted: "The rules of genetics are complex and we still don't understand what happens in many cases."

The amazing birth comes five years after Kylie Hodgson became mum to twin daughters - one white and the other black - in Nottingham.

Kylie, now 23, and her partner Remi Horder, now 21, are both mixed race.

Even so the odds were estimated at a million to one.

The Sun told in 2002 how a white couple had Asian twins after a sperm mix-up by a fertility clinic.

Yesterday three-day-old Nmachi's churchgoing mum Angela admitted that she was "speechless" at first seeing her baby girl, who was delivered in a caesarean op.

She said: "I thought, 'What is this little doll?'

"She's beautiful and I love her. Her colour doesn't matter. She's a miracle baby.

"But still, what on earth happened here?"

Her husband told how their son Chisom, four, was even more confused than them by his new sister.

Ben said: "Our other daughter Dumebi is only two so she's too young to understand.

"But our boy keeps coming to look at his sister and then sits down looking puzzled.

"We're a black family. Suddenly he has a white sister."

Ben continued: "Of course, we are baffled too and want to know what's happened. But we understand life is very strange.

"All that matters is that she's healthy and that we love her. She's a proud British Nigerian."

Queen Mary's Hospital said: "Congratulations to Angela and her family on the birth of their daughter."

Crime / Nigerian Woman Jailed In The Uk For False Rape Claim. by jupita: 10:18am On Jul 05, 2010
A student has been jailed for 18 months for falsely claiming a cleaner had raped her - so she could get an extension on her university course work.

Temitope Adenugba, 24, was struggling to meet a deadline whilst studying at Oxford Brookes University last year.

She phoned police to tell them she had been abused as a child, before complaining she had also been subjected to a serious sexual assault as she slept in her university digs.

When officers attended her halls of residence to take a statement, Adenugba pointed at cleaner Kunle Ogunmola and said: 'Can't talk here, that's the man who raped me.'

Mr Ogunmola was arrested, before a subsequent police investigation exposed a catalogue of lies and her claims later proved to be complete fantasy.

The lie was created in a bid to get an extension on her end-of-term coursework, the court heard.

Sentencing her to 18 months in prison at Oxford Crown Court on Friday, Recorder Rabinder Singh said: 'It's extremely easy to make an allegation of rape when there's no foundation whatsoever.

'It's likely to have the perverse impact of guilty men walking free.'

The court heard that police attended Clive Booth Halls of residence, Oxford, on May 21 last year after she reported historic abuse against her as a child.

Officers interviewed her but were stunned when she told them Mr Ogunmola had used a key to get into her room on April 13 and raped her.

A full police investigation was launched and the cleaner was quizzed and later arrested.

But police found any keys taken by Mr Ogunmola had been returned by April 12 and would not have given him access to her room at any time.

Adenugba had also alleged her victim had been harassing her with phone calls, but analysis of both parties' mobile phones showed this to be a lie.

Scientific examination of her pyjamas also revealed no link to Mr Ogunmola.

Mr Walsh added that Adenugba had made a fictitious rape complaint against a previous partner in October 2006.

Walter Scott, mitigating, said his client had made the claim against Mr Ogunmola after an earlier false allegation of harassment against the same man 'didn't have the desired effect of extending her time to do her coursework'.

He added: 'She was not seeking to directly attack the victim, he was chosen rather arbitrarily.'

Det Ch Insp Colin Paine, of Thames Valley Police, said: 'It is exceptionally rare and unusual for a malicious complaint to be made in this way. It caused significant distress to the man who was accused.'

righthanded people use the left part of the brain while lefties use the right.
lefty would notice there're still things u do with your left even though you were changed to your right, besides you have more strenght on the left part of your body than the right
aside from eatting and writting i still do major things with my left especially when i need to use strenght
