jl115: -Bro the Ashanti kingdom was a British protectorate from 1901 till 1957.....don't know what history they teach you in Ghana but that is the fact of the matter....
- yes they had Rifles and it would certainly not take more than a couple thousand of Rifle carrying men to besiege 200 000 spear carrying Asantes.
- They were actually preoccupied by the actual expansion of their empire including the much bigger and expensive Anglo-Burmese war to name a few....... And in 1900 they were definitely more preoccupied by the biggest and most expensive war in the British Empires history at that time, which needed 600 000 troops and resulted in over 40 000 British deaths.
it became part of British colony but was never a protectorate
dont confuse the two.
Asante was not a colony for long because the empire reestablished it self in 1926.
The Asantes also had riffles and huge armoury after centuries of buying weapons from Europeans. Now i know you are dumb
Burmese anglo war started in 1824 and ended 2 years later
jl115: Britain afraid of Ghana?? Please bro!! They colonised you with a handful of soldiers, if they were scared then they wouldve sent its full might to you like they did in South Africa in 1899
The British gifted your independence just like it gifted the independence of the rest of Africa, the colonisation and decolonisation of Ghana is no different than any other African country.
yes
Britain was afraid of letting Ghana become an independent country If not for their fears, Ghana would have been independent before 1957.
Anyway, this conversation was not about independence.
Britain did not gift the first country in sub saharan africa that got independent it's independence The Ghana story is way different from all of you, Britain could not stay, especially when it was time.
anyway, i was the one who said Britain was beaten mercilessly
And i wasnt just making a claim but stating facts.
The British army was beaten and their Governor beheaded Queen Elizabeth nephew lost his life in won of those Aglo Asante wars which angered them such that they brought in two times the Asante army to avenge their death in a different war 20 to 30 years later.
The Brits themselves mention those wars as the only wars they lost to an African Kingdom on three occasions
jl115: Technically speaking all African countries that faced the British empire were colonised, however this wasn't my argument.
Vaxx1 claimed that the British were beaten mercilessly by the Asantes ..... It's true yes that the Asantes did win a few battles however the British force was outnumbered 10 - 1 yet still conquered them in the end, if the Ashanti empire had to face half a million British soldiers then the likes of Vax and Just 30 would not be talking to you and me today, I find it funny when African countries boast about defeating the British in one or 2 battles but forget that the British barley spent a drop of recourses on them yet still defeated them.
the British never needed to spend great amounts of resources or men to colonise African country bar for the South African Republic, which acquired the full might of the British empire and was the most expensive war that the British ever had up till then(it nearly bankrupted the country)
There was a formal declaration of war for both the first(which the ZAR won) and second(which the British won) Boer wars.....there was no formal declaration of war(I could be wrong) for any other anglo conflict in Africa.
It was the only war in Africa which British casualties outnumbered(and by far I might add) that of its enemy, the British also needed 600 000 troops to defeat the 2 Boer Republics,....... A massive amount even by todays standards.
So far only 2 states in Africa have ever faced the full might of the British empire and have been successful at some extent and that was the South-African Republic and the orange freestate
Did they stop teaching History in SA because that is the only way you will become this stupid.
jl115: It's sad that you don't even know your own countries history.
The facts: Ghana became a British dominion in 1957 and a Republic in 1960.....if you don't believe me...... Well Google is your friend!!
The entire Ghana was under British control, not just the gold Coast and Ghana's independence was not won because of a few riots. During the mid 40s and 50s pro decolonization sentiment was growing within the British empire, it was thus decided to give independence to almost all of its colonies hence most of the African colonies gained independence more or less at the same time...... a few riots in Ghana certainly never had a big impact on their decision to decolonise.
The British army had better weapons yes but were far outnumbered by the Asantes, unlike in South Africa where they needed an army of 600 000, concentration camps, scotch earth policies and billions of pounds to defeat a few farmers numbering around 50 000.
The Ashanti kingdom was a protectorate until 1957 just like the Zulu kingdom was until 1960, also the Zulus were never enslaved as you wrongfully claimed and are still ruled by king Goodwill Zwelithini today.
mtisTheQubit: Vaxx you did not fight anyone..countries which fought for independence are know..looting stores is not a fight..the British just got bored an left..just ask Ethiopians how war is fought. .or kenya maumaus. ..
yet British Lords were so worried during parliamentary sections about the Anglo- Asantes war such that they had to procure ships loads of armies from India and Hausa lands.
Britain never got bored and left anywhere in West Africa. especially when they were making more money from their trade with West Africa than anywhere else in Africa.
Ghana was not formed until 1957 when independence was declared
Britain wished it could keep Ghana Boy go and read history and stop making useless noise. Britain was even afraid that if it allowed Ghana become a free country, all other countries will start demanding for theirs.
Britain could never have thought of wiping Ghana off the map Ghanaian were well educated and were mostly taking the empire to court with their own laws.
Here are the facts: Ghana was a British protectorate until 1957 when it became a British dominion and only became independent in 1960.
The British voluntarily gave you your independence, you did not fight for it, if the British so wished it could of wiped Ghana from the history books, infact if the British sent more than 600 000 soldiers to Ghana as they did in SA you would not be speaking to me now.
Also the British force that fought the Asantes was outnumbered 10 to 1 yet still managed to conquer them not the other way around as you claim.
Lastly the Zulu kingdom was never entrapped to slavery, in fact even during British colonisation and Apartheid it still exists today... Unlike the ashanti kingdom.
NairobiWalker: It looks like dirt - nothing appealing. Nobody would travel thousands of kilometers to come to a beach like that. I wonder why West Africa is the only place in the world with such horrible beaches.
yet more people comes there and spend more than they do in your vegetable country
jl115: They won........ yet became a British protectorate?
Also since we are being Honest the British only sent a couple thousand to Ashanti...... And never mind the fact they were actually preoccupied with a much much much bigger and costlier war at the same time
Asante was never a British protectorate
who will Britain be protecting them from?
They lost the 4th war and Britain Used it to strip them of their kingdom by making them less powerful.
You sound stupid
Do you think a few men can put Kumasi and it 200,000 men army at every war under siege ?
what war was Britain pre occupied with in 1824 or even 1900 when the last Asante British war was fought? empty heads always like to make noise .
gallivant: Kenya is the third biggest producer of tea. The top two producers even import Kenyan tea to satisfy their market. Label your tea Kenyan and quit with the jealousy.
jl115: let's be brutally honest though, no African country(except for 1) can boast about beating the British .........there is only one country in Africa that have defeated the super power that was the British empire in a war.
Since we are being Honest
the Asantes were the only Kingdom in Africa that went to war with the Brits on equal footing and won 3 times with one stalemate
leo552: Two year ago, i met 2 gentlemen in the streets of Madrid, they guys were getting their daily bread from car parking hustle in the streets, after a brief chat they told me they were from Nigeria, both are graduates form universities in Naija, one is an architect and the other was a marine engineer, these guys could not get job for a whole year, every job they apply for they were told Spain have more skilled people than them, worst still, they were even told their degree were equivalent of high school graduate. The chaps resorted to park cars to earn a living, what surprised me,they were not ready to travel back home, saying their country has nothing to offer that the poverty back home is more worse than what they experience in Europe To make the whole story short, this two guys represent what Nigeria is,no opportunities, poverty and quality education.
Now i know that you are lying
No marine engineer is unemployed in Nigeria whether you go to spain or stay in Nigeria to get a job, the pay of a Marine Engineer is regulated by ILO.
leo552: West Africans have become researches about Kenya, they are trying to look at every nook and cranny for any info about Kenya, having realized that Kenya is a great nation, they always post kibera and looking for every opportunity that can satisfy their zombie ego. Nigeria is not known for anything if not their messy oil industry but known for the following: 1.Fraud,they are master fraud stars in Africa and beyond. 2.Money laundering.that suits them best 3.Drug trafficking, their specialty. 4.Corruption,too corrupt that even if you ask for a direction ,they see that as prospect to con you To sum it up watch the video, link; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rAbhQphEBeg I arrest my case.
Do you know who else is known for fraud money laundering drug trafficking corruption
TayserMahri: Ghana paid for the ugly stool before the UN was established. Even then, the UN charter stipulates that the instigator of war pays the reparations. Case in point Germany was forced to pay the Allied Powers for starting the war. In Ghana's case it was the exact opposite. The British came, beat your ass up and told you to pay them if you dont want a more thorough beating
Rules of war have existed since the Roman empire. UN only adopted them.
The Brits got beaten mercilessly until they couldn't take it anymore and establish an army of Indians and Hausa's and other Ghanaian tribes to place Kumasi under siege. IN all the wars, the Asantes were the instigators except the last one which was a revenge attack from the Brits.
Even the Brits respect the Asantes because they were the only tribe that they lost to on so many occasions. They even lost to Yaa Asantewaa, a woman who led an army.
whiles in Kenya, the Brits took your lands for so many years because you guys were lazy and not doing anything on them. when you decided to fight , they castrated all of you.
