Hello,

I'm about booking a flight to USA on a F1 visa. The cheapest I'm seeing requires a stopover in London (Heathrow airport). The site is saying I may need a transit visa.

Would I truly need it?

If yes, let me change my path then.

Thanks.

Hello, try Wakanow. Download the application from the Google Play Store and look for a direct flight that doesn't require a transit visa; if possible, avoid flights that'll have a stopover in Europe. All the best!

You’re talking out of ignorance. VO only requests your bank statement on the spot… and bank info doesnt tell you anything about immigration status. Pls stop this BS. Whaf if Naija sponsor migrated to US from UK, Canada, Japan.. so VO will find out about that person wth bank statement?? This BS is not mathing up

"I'm talking out of ignorance,"
"This Bullshit"

It's okay. I agree. You're an expert.
Like I've said. Let people use whatever US sponsor they want to use. They should hope they don't request additional information through 212G.

BigIyanga:

Still not true.. so with names like Ahmed Musa, Emeka Okoye, Wale Ade.. VO can tell u in real time what is ther immigration status. So your sponsor will give you their SSN, Visa no, Passport no simply because you’re going for interview? How come VO is not asking for the same info from Naija sponsors??

It's Okay. Why do you think they put some people on 212G? Let the people who want to use their uncle or aunt who migrated to the US with B1/B2 and overstayed their visas do so. It's traceable, and that's why Nigerian sponsors are better because they don't have access to any Nigerian database. When they ask the US sponsor to forward a bank statement, they will know better.
Travel / Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 17 by justdoit100(m): 7:46pm On Jan 29, 2023
BigIyanga:

This is not true. Too far from reality. How did VO get passport, visa no and SSN of the sponsor to make that determination? VOs dont really tell you that your denial is based on your sponsor who lives in the US.
Migration status of your applicant has ZERO impact on your chances of getting approved or denied.
Nothing illegal about switching from F1 to finding love thru marriage. Make una take am easy dey confuse young applicant. This your mock group is loaded with conspiracy theorists. Lol

"Conspiracy theorist" lol.

It is well. It's my observation.
I've seen several transcripts where they ask applicants how their sponsors got to the US. How can someone who moved with a non-immigrant visa, abandoned his studies, now want to sponsor another person on an F-1 visa? Don't you know that they have a database? They would ask for the name, year, and other information to filter out the said sponsor.

That was before covid, not now anymore. Gre has been waived and will be outlaw soon.
And again, most schools look at several factors when it comes to Graduate application.
SOP, letter of Recommendation, Resume if done right can give good funding.

It is not required but recommended. Hin get why. when it's time to give funding and there are applicants with equal GPAs, publications, and work experience (similar profiles). It is then that you would wish you had IELTS, GRE, even WES.
One applicant is better prepared than the other. Simple.

How she got there is not an issue so long as she’s legit. The problem is that her finances aren't enough to pay for his MBA. If he goes back for a 2nd interview with the same funding formula, he stands a higher chance of getting denied again.
I hope all these private chat groups dont charge for admission.

I've seen transcripts in the mock and date search WhatsApp group where the applicant was denied when they learned the sponsor came to the US on an F-1 or B1/B2 visa, abandoned their studies or overstayed, and obtained a Green Card through marriage or other means.
What makes you think that the current applicant would not follow the same route? The VOs would ask for a name and check their database. The way your sponsor migrated to the US matters. It can lead to denial.
The mock group I know doesn't charge for advice or interviews. The applicant should just join the session or meeting and stay in the queue to be attended to.

Good evening everyone!

Pls i need some advice
Attempt: First
MBA
Date : 16/11/2022
Status: DENIED
Me: Good morning Officer
Vo: Good morning. Pass me your passport and I120
Me: (pass)
VO: I see you are going to University of maine
Me: yes officer
VO: who is sponsoring you?
Me: my Aunt
VO: what does she do?
Me: She is currently working as an Investigative Money Laundering Analyst at ******* bank, USA (my aunt lives in new jersey and i have a bank statement of $80k)
VO: Typed for some seconds and gave me the blue paper
Here is the twist: i deferred to summer semester, paid another visa fee and was lucky enough to have gotten another date for mid february 2023.
But someone said i shouldn't have written on my ds160 that my sponsor lives in the US and advised i put her nigerian address which i feel will be misrepresentation. I even declared that i dont have an immediate family memeber in the us but i have other relative in the us (obviously my sponsor). My question is -Should i get another sponsor here in nigeria and request for a new i120 (will be pretty hard tho) or should i just go ahead with what I've submitted?
Also, i used the sane passport photograph for this new application but i plan on going with a a new one. Will it be okay?

Pls help a brethren cry

There are no issues with having your aunt, who lives in the US, sponsor you. The important question is, "How did she get there?" Is it through the visa lottery, or B1/B2 and refused to come back?
Based on your transcript, you were not prepared. Your responses were rather generic; you were not detailed. You need to join the visa mock group to be properly grilled. Repetition is the mother of skill.

Nobody gives a damn what success you've achieved or how long you've been in this business. You don't have the right to talk to people like this and if at whatever age you say you are, you cannot pass across your ideas without being insulting and condescending, then maybe you should reserve them to yourself.

I myself am a big troll on this forum, but I don't bring that attitude here because I know everyone on this thread, in his or her own way, is working hard to achieve their goals. There isn't any room for this constant negativity.

Thank you for your comment. God bless you! I have responded to him politely, but I noticed that he's busy looking for fault. I have a face, and I'm not anonymous. People in the US-Visa, Date search group, and even some visitors & members on this platform knows me personally.

There are a lot of lies in this transcript. But all the best to you. Make sure you don’t come here and continue with the lies. Drop that attitude back in Nigeria, don’t think you’re impressing anyone cos you will be making a fool of yourself.

Power/ energy distribution is not run by the government here in US, it is run by private corporations.

I've been busy preparing for my trip. I just saw this. The last thing I'll be in life is a liar. That was what she told me. I've never lived in the US before, so I wouldn't know how it's run. The PHCN in Nigeria was privatized in 2013, and it is now 60% private and 40% public. I don't know who owns the majority of the stake in the US. There is so much resentment in your comment—not even a single congratulations. Just imagine!
Mind you, the Federal Government still gives each disco money; ours is N3 billion naira monthly to manage our AT&C losses. So, it's partly owned by the government and just managed by the private sector.

If we all did what you did do you think this thread would have survived till date?

Hello Chibertha, my fellow MU people.
Someone already forwarded it here, but I'll post it again.

In my last interview, I had no LinkedIn profile, and I made an error on my DS-160, which Barrister Ogbu noticed after I sent him my DS-160 for review. I built my LinkedIn profile and uploaded all my certifications. For someone with a long career, the VO wouldn't believe that I actually work with the said organization if I didn't have an online presence.

I was the third in line and the first to be approved. The interview started around 10:15 a.m.

VO: Hello.
Me: Good morning.
VO: Could you pass me your form?
Me: Yes! You can have it.
VO: So, you're going to Marshall University.
Me: Correct! I'm going to Marshall University for my Masters in Geography, and I will be taking a minimum of 34 credit hours with courses like bla bla. Under the supervision of Professor Jamie, I would be researching the impact of *****. (I stuttered at first but gained momentum when she said that she was interested in my research, so I continued and she didn't interrupt me.)
VO: Have you been outside the country?
Me: No! I've been very busy working in Nigeria.
VO: So, do you have any relatives living in the US?
Me: No! I don't. All my relatives live in Nigeria.
VO: So, you were here last year, going to FSU, and were denied this year again, going to Marshall University. Tell me what has changed and why you think you were denied. Be honest with me.
Me: I think the last time I was in Lagos, I was unable to explain my funding clearly and concisely. I have been awarded a graduate teaching assistantship that covers 70% of my tuition and fees and a $6,000 stipend to cater for my living expenses. I have worked for over 11 years and have saved 12 million naira, of which I will use part to cover my deficit.

VO: So what about your uncle? Why is he not sponsoring you again?
Me: I have enough money to cover my deficit; that's why my account statement was used. But he still promised to assist me, as he always does.
VO: I think this school is very affordable too?
Me: Yes! I was offered a GTA.
VO: Are you married?
Me: No, but I'm in a committed relationship, and we plan to tie the knot when I come back to Nigeria after my program.
VO: What's your post-study plan?
I will be returning as the regional GIS head in our organization; we're the 4th largest in Nigeria. I will be applying geospatial technologies to combat energy theft and generate more revenue for the organization.
VO: Is the company private?
Me: Yes! Following the unbundling of PHCN in 2013.
VO: In the US, ours is run by the government.
Me: Okay
VO: Have you applied to Canada before?
(I guess she opened my LinkedIn and saw the Canada WES evaluation report because I saw her screen reflection on her glasses.)
Me: No! When I wanted to evaluate my transcript, I accidentally selected Canada instead of the USA, so I had to pay another fee and transfer my transcript to WES USA. (which she cut off)
VO: It's okay. Your visa is approved.
You will get an email soon. Enjoy your stay.
Me: "Thank you!"

I was just indifferent, and it was after I got out that the security guys told me to smile and said congratulations.

That was when I started getting emotional.

Omoooooooooooooooooo

My visa got rejected o, at the Abuja embassy, the VO was a lady one whitish thing like that. She had a bright smile and fine face but na snake.

Our convo goes thus:

VO : Hi good morning

ME: GOOD MORNING how are you doing (me trying to use my Barry tone voice)

VO: Very fine thank you, Can I see your documents ( I hand over i20 and passport).

VO: So you are going to Wayne County Community college DISTRICT.

ME: Yes I am, I got admitted to study business administration and management on a 2 year associate degree program. ( see how detailed I was)

VO: Who is your sponsor

ME: My sponsor is my uncle Mr bla bla bla

VO: What does he.do for a living

ME: In my mind, He is a kidnapper (lol) he is into business and he is a pastor.

VO: Okay why do you want to study in the USA..

ME: Ghen ghen (Omoooooooooooooooooo again)
I intend to study in the USA to harness the skills and knowledge the vast experience of the lecturers of this great college would impact in me and use my learned skill and degree to use it to work back here in Nigeria at the end of my program. Chikena

All this time she was nodding her head in some form of agreement...

VO: Okay what do you do for a living

ME: Again in my mind (I am a drug peddler) oloshi
I work as dis and dat at my uncles company, now I noticed when she asked this question she leaned towards the glass to kind of like hear me well, like she wanted to get a kiss or something. Me too leaned forward almost closed my eyes that I was about to break the record of the first Nigerian guy to kiss a consulate during interview and get accepted (lol)

Omo na so this white babe type type type, like 30 seconds me I was already happy small small that at least this time my interview lasted a little longer than the previous one, (that first one ehn na 20.secs I swear)

Omo.next thing wey I hear na say, sorry I can't grant your visa as there hasn't been much changes since your last application, This was 7 months ago (I think the reason they put glass between the VO and us is that incase we wan tear them slap). I was looking like a flying fish, just turned around said thank you and left.

My observation is that
1. That Abuja consular is less crowded compared to Lagos.
2. The whole process is well organised
3. The visa officers are more patient compared to Lagos ones.
4. But na oloshi be American embassy, they waste your time and efforts.

Sorry about your denial. I think that you were the guy that sat beside me on Wednesday at the embassy; you were the second person to be interviewed after that lady going for her MBA. Try applying to a university instead of a community college. You didn't respond well when asked about your sponsor. All the best!

The US embassy should set a student visa surge date for fall 2022, similar to how they did for spring 2022 in December 2021. They can do better.

I have scheduled visa interview for a university A. But I decided to go to interview for university B. When I booked appointment on CGI portal, there was field to enter university name and zip code (see screenshot). Now I want to change name of university on CGI portal, but there is no option to change university name in Update profile tab.

Please someone tell how can I change university name in CGI portal without cancelling visa appointment.
Thanks.

Have you been able to resolve the issue and enter your new SEVIS ID and school name?
