bioemmy: Hello, try Wakanow. Download the application from the Google Play Store and look for a direct flight that doesn't require a transit visa; if possible, avoid flights that'll have a stopover in Europe. All the best! 1 Like |

BigIyanga: "I'm talking out of ignorance," "This Bullshit" It's okay. I agree. You're an expert. Like I've said. Let people use whatever US sponsor they want to use. They should hope they don't request additional information through 212G. |

BigIyanga: It's Okay. Why do you think they put some people on 212G? Let the people who want to use their uncle or aunt who migrated to the US with B1/B2 and overstayed their visas do so. It's traceable, and that's why Nigerian sponsors are better because they don't have access to any Nigerian database. When they ask the US sponsor to forward a bank statement, they will know better. |

BigIyanga: "Conspiracy theorist" lol. It is well. It's my observation. I've seen several transcripts where they ask applicants how their sponsors got to the US. How can someone who moved with a non-immigrant visa, abandoned his studies, now want to sponsor another person on an F-1 visa? Don't you know that they have a database? They would ask for the name, year, and other information to filter out the said sponsor. 2 Likes |

iamola30: It is not required but recommended. Hin get why. when it's time to give funding and there are applicants with equal GPAs, publications, and work experience (similar profiles). It is then that you would wish you had IELTS, GRE, even WES. One applicant is better prepared than the other. Simple. 1 Like 1 Share |

BigIyanga: I've seen transcripts in the mock and date search WhatsApp group where the applicant was denied when they learned the sponsor came to the US on an F-1 or B1/B2 visa, abandoned their studies or overstayed, and obtained a Green Card through marriage or other means. What makes you think that the current applicant would not follow the same route? The VOs would ask for a name and check their database. The way your sponsor migrated to the US matters. It can lead to denial. The mock group I know doesn't charge for advice or interviews. The applicant should just join the session or meeting and stay in the queue to be attended to. 1 Like |

MelaninGemstone: "Smelly USA visa." The US visa for my passport no dey smell Abeg.lol... The UK only wants your money, and it's quite expensive—tuition deposits, little to no scholarship opportunities, etc. If you have a good profile, you can study in the US for almost free through GA. 1 Like |

Komphyyyy: There are no issues with having your aunt, who lives in the US, sponsor you. The important question is, "How did she get there?" Is it through the visa lottery, or B1/B2 and refused to come back? Based on your transcript, you were not prepared. Your responses were rather generic; you were not detailed. You need to join the visa mock group to be properly grilled. Repetition is the mother of skill. 1 Like |

slimmy2005: I've been busy preparing for my trip. I just saw this. The last thing I'll be in life is a liar. That was what she told me. I've never lived in the US before, so I wouldn't know how it's run. The PHCN in Nigeria was privatized in 2013, and it is now 60% private and 40% public. I don't know who owns the majority of the stake in the US. There is so much resentment in your comment—not even a single congratulations. Just imagine! Mind you, the Federal Government still gives each disco money; ours is N3 billion naira monthly to manage our AT&C losses. So, it's partly owned by the government and just managed by the private sector. 2 Likes |

chibertha: Hello Chibertha, my fellow MU people. Someone already forwarded it here, but I'll post it again. In my last interview, I had no LinkedIn profile, and I made an error on my DS-160, which Barrister Ogbu noticed after I sent him my DS-160 for review. I built my LinkedIn profile and uploaded all my certifications. For someone with a long career, the VO wouldn't believe that I actually work with the said organization if I didn't have an online presence. I was the third in line and the first to be approved. The interview started around 10:15 a.m.  VO: Hello. Me: Good morning. VO: Could you pass me your form? Me: Yes! You can have it. VO: So, you're going to Marshall University. Me: Correct! I'm going to Marshall University for my Masters in Geography, and I will be taking a minimum of 34 credit hours with courses like bla bla. Under the supervision of Professor Jamie, I would be researching the impact of *****. (I stuttered at first but gained momentum when she said that she was interested in my research, so I continued and she didn't interrupt me.) VO: Have you been outside the country? Me: No! I've been very busy working in Nigeria. VO: So, do you have any relatives living in the US? Me: No! I don't. All my relatives live in Nigeria. VO: So, you were here last year, going to FSU, and were denied this year again, going to Marshall University. Tell me what has changed and why you think you were denied. Be honest with me. Me: I think the last time I was in Lagos, I was unable to explain my funding clearly and concisely. I have been awarded a graduate teaching assistantship that covers 70% of my tuition and fees and a $6,000 stipend to cater for my living expenses. I have worked for over 11 years and have saved 12 million naira, of which I will use part to cover my deficit. VO: So what about your uncle? Why is he not sponsoring you again? Me: I have enough money to cover my deficit; that's why my account statement was used. But he still promised to assist me, as he always does. VO: I think this school is very affordable too? Me: Yes! I was offered a GTA. VO: Are you married? Me: No, but I'm in a committed relationship, and we plan to tie the knot when I come back to Nigeria after my program. VO: What's your post-study plan? I will be returning as the regional GIS head in our organization; we're the 4th largest in Nigeria. I will be applying geospatial technologies to combat energy theft and generate more revenue for the organization. VO: Is the company private? Me: Yes! Following the unbundling of PHCN in 2013. VO: In the US, ours is run by the government. Me: Okay VO: Have you applied to Canada before? (I guess she opened my LinkedIn and saw the Canada WES evaluation report because I saw her screen reflection on her glasses.) Me: No! When I wanted to evaluate my transcript, I accidentally selected Canada instead of the USA, so I had to pay another fee and transfer my transcript to WES USA. (which she cut off) VO: It's okay. Your visa is approved. You will get an email soon. Enjoy your stay. Me: "Thank you!" I was just indifferent, and it was after I got out that the security guys told me to smile and said congratulations. That was when I started getting emotional. Kiddyong123ayo: Sorry about your denial. I think that you were the guy that sat beside me on Wednesday at the embassy; you were the second person to be interviewed after that lady going for her MBA. Try applying to a university instead of a community college. You didn't respond well when asked about your sponsor. All the best! 1 Like |

The US embassy should set a student visa surge date for fall 2022, similar to how they did for spring 2022 in December 2021. They can do better. 1 Like |
