freeradical: I'm back people with yet another of my recent experience with career advancement in Canada. So you guys remember me telling you all how I got two jobs and was spoilt for choice over which to pick. Well to refresh those that may have forgotten I chose the big firm (even though the position was temporary and entry level hourly operator while the other was permanent ,full time but for a smaller firm) because I believed it had better prospects for career growth.
Well I took my humble pie and resumed for the hourly operator job on 2nd January and we were all placed on a 3day orientation and training program. It went on like that up until Thurs when something dramatic happened. After we have been dispersed to head to our various departments, as I was waiting in the lobby with my other colleagues for our department rep, I was approached by the operations manager who asked if I could spare him 5mins of my time. I obliged and he took me to a meeting room and we were immediately joined by another manager. I sensed I was going to be interviewed again, so I quickly psyched myself. The operations manager started by telling me he needed a new group manager in his department as one of his guys just got promoted and moved to another location and he feels I can fill that position. The next 30-45mins was a grilling but yet refreshing interview where I was mainly asked competency based questions that required I relate my answers very well to my past experiences (which all came from Nigeria).
Afterwards I left the interview feeling like what just happened and went back to join the rest of my hourly operator crew only for the heads upstairs to send for me again after like 30mins. When I came up this time, the operations manager was there to receive me and then he told me there is someone he will like me to meet. This time it was the overall Plant manager who is the top boss in the Edmonton plant. I almost froze to the floor but then as omo naija my head quickly correct . After a firm handshake with the Plant manager I was taken to a larger conference room just me and him. Then he started interviewing me again. As usual I kept relating my answers to past work experiences from Nigeria. In the end he thanked me and encouraged me to keep developing myself especially in the new job I was being offered as they strictly apply meritocracy in career advancement in d organization.
I closed from work that still perplexed at how fast my fortunes are about to change. I got home and was still narrating the whole ordeal to my wife when I got a call from the operations manager that I have got the job and if I'm willing to accept the offer. I answered in the affirmative. Then he asked me to come into the plant the next day(we were billed to attend a safety training off-site as the hourly operators) as I need to sign a new offer letter and start immediately on the new management position I was offered.
So people that was how I started the year/week as a floor staff but ended the week as a first-line manager. The purpose of my sharing this story is not to in any way pride in my efforts because I owe everything I am to God but to encourage someone/anyone who can dare to believe in the impossible. Yes miracles still do happen. It's not by he that runneth but on the Lord that showeth mercy. Be courageous my fellow naija Canadians. Go out there and claim what's yours!
Peace. congrats sir please if I may ask do u work in a manufacturing industry or O &G and if yes which city would you advise an engineering mentainance personnel to land in respect to job availability. thanks |

Blackbuddy: Well, the first thing you have proved is that you have a working resume which got you this recruitment opportunity. The downside to your situation is that you don't have a PR visa yet. This situation is similar to what my relative passed through who got his PR visa and then began to apply for jobs while in Nigeria. He put my wife's Canadian phone number on his resume and when my wife received the call for phone interview, she responded and told them he was out but would call back. She sent him the number and he called back from Nigeria, passed his phone interview and got a date for his face to face interview. He then bought his ticket and landed in Canada on the day of his interview. Came to my house, changed his clothes, got a taxi straight to the interview and passed it! He got a job the day he landed and started work the following week. In your case, there's no phone interview, straight to in-person, hands-on skills assessment and if you perform well, you get face to face. Since you have no way of knowing when you will get PR, they will not keep the role for you indefinitely but proceed to the next person available for the job. At least, you have assurance now that you have a good resume. So you may consider sending a polite response that you are unable to currently pursue the opportunity but are thankful for the consideration given to you. This is a great way to keep the door open and for them to remember you as a thoughtful, considerate person. It's possible they will keep your resume in their database for future opportunities. More opportunities will come your way, all the best ahead. Thanks so much sir actually did some couple of online test and interview. At least its good to know that my cv is ok to some extent may ppr falls on us all and may canaland be fruitful to us all |

ebho: Hi Guys,
Been a while, i am reporting live from Canada(Winnipeg) Landed on the 9th Of October. The Journey was Smooth we Bless God this Journey started here on this Platform i greet everyone of you here both Elders and Newbies.
we used Egypt air(Travel Start) Family of 4 from Abuja Nigeria to Canada. Egypt air was cool not as bad as people made it look, stopped at Cairo then boarded Toronto Canada.
we carried 5 strong Ghana must go backs and one Bus making it six luggage's it is not supposed to exceed 23kgs so na to weight the thing wella. if you are carrying food items ensure that are well preserved ie properly dried and grinded into powder and stored in Ziploc.
Abeg if una never book use Abuja to move out ooo, no stress from anybody there but ensure you get to the airport 2 hours before Boarding so everything can be sorted out on time, but for us those Nigerian immigration guys be one tell me say my luggage plenty so i had to educate them that every passenger is entitled to 2 luggages and 1 hand bag and we were a family of 4 all this na to drop something sha.
our Luggage was not searched so just package your self nothing dey happen. so the journey to Cairo no wahala but the A/C for the plane na die, so wear better jacket for National peace. at Cairo waited for about 2 hours then we left to Toronto.
At Toronto now the immigration guys no get joy oooo, the babe come ask for all the document finally e come reach for the money we bring come Canada. so i told her we brought $1500 oboy no be small thing ooo this lady come dey speak english ooooo, as a sharp Nigeria guy before leaving Nigeria i activated online banking, dollar card and domiciliary account of all currency and change almost all the naira to dollar.
so we transfer all the money instantly to the dollar card and that was it. every other thing was history. Above all Pray before leaving, Baba God nia get Power.

stealth02: Hi, I'm not certain what the terms of your agreement is with the consultant but it's never too late to end your EE processing with them.
There are testimonies of people on this thread who were in a similar position as yourself including those that had to create new EE profiles even after they had received ITA due to a fall out with their so called 'visa consultants'. They got another ITA and now have their PPRs
All you need to succeed in the process is already on this thread, if you can diligently read through the steps followed by others and page 0 is a good place to start. Afterwards if there's anything that's still unclear to you; don't hesitate to ask the house to get answers to your questions. Best wishes! thanks so much for the reply the agreement is noting big its just the use of representative form printed from CIC site and a retainer agreement and since they have not really help in any way order than to collect money from me I think it is wise I continue the process my self since non of my detail documents are with them. |

pls need an advice am just starting my EE process and I employed the use of an immigration consultant with 50% payment made, it was along d line that I discovered that I don't really need their service as there presence is not going to influence any thing I just sat for my ielts and my credentials are under going assessment, at this point I thought I should opt out as non of my doc is in there custody, base on the info gotten from here there is no big deal if filing my profile to CIC. my self owing to the fact that there are still financial commitment to be incurred during the process. pls I hope my action won't invalidated my profiles for bridge of agreement I plan to tell them am suspending the process to raise fund. sorry for the long text. |
