The refineries do not work because when you sell petrol below the cost of its production, there is no money for upgrades and other stuff

Plus since NNPC staff still get their salaries paid ( their salary does not depend on the profits or loss of the NNPC; they are treated as highly paid civil servants) there is no incentive to keep things working.

Between those two reasons, that's why the refineries failed over two th three decades.

It is for that same reason that we have 20 inactive licenses for refineries in Nigeria because no private investor wants to come and refine and sell fuel at a loss. It is also the reason why NNPC refineries went bust in the first place.

My friend who is a US citizen, single, no kids, no wife, and has been working in the US for close to 10 years. Things have gone well and he was planning to settle down this August.
