Family / David Cameron Buys £1,500 Used Car For Wife Samantha by kachy: 9:47am On May 24, 2016
Prime Minister David Cameron has bought a £1,500 used car as a "cheap run-around" for his wife, according to the salesman he bought it from.

According to BBC,Showroom owner Iain Harris, 44, said he thought a call from the PM's security team saying he was interested in the compact car was a "wind-up".
Mr Cameron paid £1,495 for the Nissan Micra in Minster Lovell, Oxfordshire, on Friday.
He said the blue car was "just the right colour" for the Tory leader.
Mr Harris said he first heard of Mr Cameron's interest in the car when he received a call to his office at Witney Used Car Centre, in the prime minister's constituency.

"I thought it was one of my mates having a wind-up and I was going to be sat here for half an hour on my own doing nothing - especially when he said it was for a Nissan Micra."
He explained that when he turned up for the appointment, Mr Cameron asked his security detail to stand behind the car to make sure the back brake lights worked.

Mr Harris said he could not resist quipping that it was lucky the car was not red - the colour of the Labour Party.
"Fortunately, it was just the right colour," he said.
Mr Harris added: "It was a bit surreal, but likewise he was just a normal chap buying a car for his wife, a normal conversation, normal sort of deal and that was it."

Fayose mourns Ekiti doctors, declares three days mourning

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has described the death of six medical doctors and one driver in the State, in an accident involving a 13-passenger bus as the lowest point in the history of the State and a monumental loss not only to the people of Ekiti State but to Nigerians, declaring a three days of mourning for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

The governor, who directed that all flags should be flown at half-mast, described the death as an eclipse of professional and intellectual figures, who lost their lives in active service to mankind, saying; “Ekiti has lost some of the best trees in its forest of medicine. I am deeply sad. This is one loss too many.”

In a release issued by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Governor Fayose said; “Death of seven prominent indigenes of a State in one day and at the same period is a burden too heavy to bear and it is my prayer that God, who is the only giver and taker of live will give Ekiti people the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.”

The six doctors, who had an accident a few kilometres to Kaduna on their way to Sokoto to attend Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) event were Dr Aladesanmi of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Ido-Ekiti; Dr Oj Taiwo of the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH); NMA Secretary, Dr Akinyele Lexy; Dr Ogunseye of the Health Management Board (HMB); EKSUTH Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) President, Dr Olajide, Dr Adeniyi James of the FMC and a driver, Mr Ajibola.

The governor urged families, friends and professional colleagues of the deceased, especially members of the NMA to solace in God who giveth and taketh when it pleases Him.

Politics / Medical Doctor Shot By Policeman In Imo by kachy: 5:37pm On Feb 04, 2016
The planned peaceful demonstration by medical practitioners in Imo State, turned awry today as a Consultant Family Physician in the Federal Medical Centre, Owerri, FMC, Dr. Bende Azudialo, was allegedly shot in the head by a policeman. Giving a graphic account of the incident during a press conference in Owerri, the State Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, Dr. Hyacinth Emele, ordered a three-day warning strike with effect from today (Friday). “If the policeman that fired the lethal shot is not identified and prosecuted, doctors will commence indefinite industrial action. The security agencies and Imo State Government should note that all hospitals in the state will close shop thereafter until the erring policeman is fished out and punished”, Emele said. Continuing, the Imo NMA boss, who also displayed the blood-stained white overall worn by the wounded doctor, also said that a team of medical health personnel started working on the wounded Consultant Family Physician, as soon as he was rushed to the FMC. “The initial report we got from the medical team was that Dr. Azudialo lost about 1.5 litres of blood when he was rushed to the hospital and that was a substantial loss”, Emele said Speaking also, Dr. Darlington Akukwu recalled how the NMA formally wrote the Commissioner of Police, the Directorate of State Security, DSS, the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, and all other related agencies to inform them about the peaceful protest. “We processed peacefully until we got to Orlu Road Roundabout. The police barricaded the road and when we tried to explain our mission to them, they started firing teargas canisters. One of them later fired a shot that wounded Dr. Azudialo”, Dr. Akukwu said. He urged President Muhammadu Buhari and the Inspector General of Police to find out why Imo State Government called out the police to shoot at harmless medical doctors. All efforts made to reach the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr. Andrew Enwerem, a deputy superintendent of police for comments, failed as his line could not be reached before press time. However, the police was still stationing over 12 patrol vehicles at the entrance into the State Secretariat of the Nigerian Medical Association, when Vanguard left the scene at about 2.15pm.

Education / JAMB Says HND Will Soon Be Changed To Bachelor Of Technology by kachy: 7:26am On Jul 30, 2015
About time! Wonder what will be the fate of those already with OND/HND. It should also be put into consideration together with this new development. My two cents though.

The Registrar/Chief Executive of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, (JAMB), Prof. Dibu Ojerinde has said President Muhammadu Buhari is willing to implement the waver that will end the Bsc and HND dichotomy.
Buhari had received the updated report on the Bsc and HND controversy, which was presented by the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, MacJohn Nwaobiala last Tuesday.

Speaking to newsmen on Wednesday, Ojerinde recalled that the last administration set up a committee to look at how the two could be merged.

Continuing he said, “The system has not given adequate vision for the other levels of education. We have not encouraged technical education, we have not encouraged Teachers education also; in fact, we have not encouraged agricultural education to the extent that everybody feels that the only way to survive is to go to the University.

“The only way to make it is to have a degree; so I am saying we should revisit our system, we should look at why candidates don’t want to go to polytechnics, and we should look at why they don’t want teachers’ education; we should also revisit why they don’t want agriculture.

“By our experience, most people will like to study law, engineering, medicine, accountancy, these are the top courses been sought for in the universities; nobody wants to study education. So, I see we have problem in that area and I am sure the Federal Ministry of Education is trying to solve that problem.

“First of all Technical Education, there’s dichotomy between Bachelors degree and National Diploma or Higher National Diploma, (HND). It was one of the things presented to Mr. President to find a way of implementing the waiver of the dichotomy between HND and the Bsc degree. The so called HND should now be changed to Btech which means Bachelor of Technology.

“Former President Musa Yar’Adua may his soul rest in peace, said he doesn’t have any problem with Btech. Unfortunately, government also has not sorted this entire problem. And there are such cases of people like me in this country, I wouldn’t have been able to read, I wouldn’t have been able to go to school. So what I am saying is, government should look at how we can improve technical education.

“Let me refer to what Oby Ezekwensili the former Minister of Education said, she was determined to implement Btech in our Technical System, college of Education. All this places should be well equipped for Btech.
“Four colleges of Education have been upgraded to universities of Education, you will see the rush into those universities now because they can now get bachelor’s degree. And when they come to the public, they will not be a push away. So this is where we are, I think if I go by what we saw on Wednesday, President Buhari and the Vice President listened and they were interested in what we presented”.

Celebrities / ''I Wasn’t Trying To Seduce Mr. President'' – Seyi Shay by kachy: 9:30am On Mar 07, 2015
So earlier on this week, pretty singing diva, Seyi Shay broke the Nigerian
internet when she rocked this incredibly short dress to meet President GEJ in
Lagos. After photos went viral, fans and haters alike went wild with their
thoughts about her outfit and most mocked her.
However, in an new interview with Saturday Beats, Seyi explained what really
happened. According to her, she had two outfits for the event and the outfit that
caused the stir was what she wore to perform. She also emphasised that she is
a respectable lady and was not planning to seduce the president in any way.
Seyi said:
“I am a very respectable young lady and I was not in any way trying to
seduce the President with the outfit I wore. I had two outfits for the event,
one was for my performance and the other was worn after I performed. The
dress I was pictured in with the President was what I wore during my
performance.
I came on stage and greeted everyone according to their culture and I did
the same for Mr. President. He was impressed and he asked where and
how I knew how to greet in his native dialect and I said I learnt it. That
was what brought about the giggling and smiles in the picture.
I’m a performer and what I do on stage doesn’t reflect my everyday life. I
had two outfits on that day and it was a youth event. Who wouldn’t feel
overwhelmed meeting the President? Well, I did and I felt honoured
because it is not every day you get to meet the president of your country.”

GEJ had the opportunity to really do well cos the typical no-sending Nigerians supported him whole heartedly in 2011. It beats my imagination that a serving president will be struggling against the likes of GMB to retain his seat, when ordinarily, his works of transformation should naturally be campaigning for him. Its an eye opener for him. Even if he wins (GEJ), I guess he and other bigots trying to rule Nigerians will not take the populace forgranted anymore. #eyeopener

Health / No More Ultimatums, October 16th JOHESU Strike Inevitable by kachy: 2:39pm On Oct 15, 2014
JOHESU is at it again.......

Members of the Nigerian Union of allied Health professionals have declared their intention to proceed on a nationwide strike by the 16th of October. In a  communique issued and sent to MEDICALWORLD NIGERIA titled "Commencement of industrial strike action by members of Nigerian Union of allied health professionals (NUAHP) Nationwide.

They recalled that NUAHP had given the Federal Government an ultimatum
which was communicated to the Federal Ministry of Health which expired on
30th September, 2014. This ultimatum was arrived at  the meeting of
National Executive Council (NEC) of the Union which was preceded by a
public symposium titled; “Incessant strikes in Nigeria’s Health Sector:
Causes and solution” held between 28th and 30th August, 2014 at Asokoro
District Hospital, Abuja. One of the causes of incessant strikes is the
attitude of Government/Employers in reneging on agreements.*

*However, members of the Union did not go on the strike despite the
expiration of the ultimatum because of Salah festival and holidays, showing
our respect for the members of the public.*

*While our members nationwide were agitating for the commencement of the
strike on the 8th of October, 2014, the leadership of the Union persuaded
them to hold on for a meeting called by the Government called for the 9th
of October, 2014 hoping that the Federal Government would release at least
6 to 8 circulars of various issues which have been lingering over the past
four years.  *

*When the Government called the leaders of JOHESU for a meeting held on the
9th of October, 2014, none of our demands was met which infuriated members
of the Union demanding for the immediate commencement of the strike not
later than 13th October, 2014.*

*However, the leadership of the Union was forced to summon an emergency
meeting of the National Administrative Council (NAC)  on the 13th of
October, 2014 to receive the reactions of our members to the report of
Federal Government/JOHESU meeting of 9th October, 2014.*

*Having forwarded earlier on the report of the Government/JOHESU meeting
outcome to all units and State Councils of our Union nationwide, the
preponderant of the feedback from our members showed that our members are
disillusioned, disappointed, embarrassed and frustrated by the Government
position and therefore demanded for an immediate nationwide strike action.*

*Hence, the current decision of the Union.*

You would remember that medicalworld nigeria had published on its site that the union joined other unions in the health sector to embark on a 3 day warning strike between 20th and 22nd of January, 2014 with a view of embarking on a nationwide strike four weeks after if the Government did not meet their demands.*

Since then, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation intervened
and has since engaged the Unions at series of meetings without any serious
achievements.  So we are therefore left with no option than to embark on
this strike.

*You would also recall that the Union embarked on a nationwide strike on
the 16th to 22nd of August, 2013, which was apprehended by the Honourable
Minister of Labour and Productivity, Chief Emeka Wogu while a Memorandum of
Understanding (MoU) was signed between the two parties on the 20th of
August, 2013. Till date most of the issues contained in the MoU are yet to
be implemented.  Some of the issues are:*

*1.       **The appointment of Chief Medical Directors (CMD)*

*2.       **Advertorials on the post of Chief Medical Directors (CMD) and
Medical Directors (MD) of Tertiary Hospitals in Nigeria being skewed in
favour of Medical Practitioners.*

*3.       **Composition of Management Boards of Tertiary Hospitals which is
lopsided in favour of Medical Practitioners.*

*4.       **Abolition of the Office of Deputy Chairman, Medical Advisory
Committee and Deputy Head of Clinical Services in some Tertiary Hospitals.*

*5.       **Holding of Stakeholders Conference.*

*These issues are either partially attended to or deliberately ignored. The
Federal Government had set up various Committees whose assignments seemed
unending. The Union is tired of this unpleasant strategy of time buying by
the Federal Government.*

*Other issues at stake are:*

*6.       **Non-promotion of our members to Directors position.*

*7.       **Non-payment of specialist allowance.*

*8.       **Refusal to issue Circulars after concluding collective bargaining meetings

*9.       **Creation of Department of Medical Laboratory Science.*

*10.   **Complete Autonomy for Teaching Hospitals.*

*11.   **Imposition of University Staff as heads of Departments.*

*12.   **Others.*

*Since the Government had decided not respond to our ultimatum which
expired on the 30th of September, 2014 and our demands, the Union has no
choice than to call out her members for an indefinite nationwide strike.
This strike commences by 8.00am of 16th October, 2014 until further notice.*

The national president F.O. Faniran and the National secretary O.C. Ogbonna on behalf to the union apologize to our teeming Patients and the entire members of the public for this avoidable action, the Government should be held responsible for this.

Let us gear up for another FG vs health care providers fight.. Just sit down dey watch....

The secretary to the government of the federation,
Three arms zone, central area, abuja
Sir,
FIFTEEN (15) DAYS ULTIMATUM.
You could recall that JOHESU embarked on three days warning
strike from 20th to 22nd january 22014 to press home various
demands which have been lingering since 2009
In view of the inability of the honourable minister of health,
professor onyebuchi chukwu to meet our demands, the federal
government intervened through the office of the secretary to the
government of the federation. However, from january to september
2014, very little have been achieved as most agreements earlier
reached between federal government and JOHESU are not
implemented.medicalworldnigeria.com
We therefore, demand for immediate resolution of all matters
pending between JOHESU and federal government within the next
fifteen days i.e not later than 8th october 2014 or face an indefinite
strike action.
The contending issues among others are as follows:
1) Non promotion of our members from salary CONHESS 14 - 15 as
directors having stayed for 4 to 15 years on the same salary level
without promotion in most fedral tertiary hospitals.
2) Immediate release of circular on adjustment of salary as done for
NMA members since january 2014 and immediate payment of at
least two months arrears while the remaining are paid with 2015
budget.
3) Immediate release of the circular on extension of retirement age
to be back dated to february 2014 when the issue was presented to
National council on establishment.
4) Immediate and full payment of arrears of salaries of CONHESS
10 skipping outstanding since the year 2010.
5) Immediate amendment of the ciruclar on consultancy status as
pronounced by National court on 22nd july, 2013, and agreed to at
a meeting of 12th august 2014 with the federal
government.medicalworldnigeria.com
6) Payment of arrears of specialist allowance to qualified hospital
based professioanls with effect from 1st january 2010 in line with
national industrial court of nigeria ruling.
7) Immediate release of the harmonized scheme of service and
circular on internship for nurses and midwives.
cool Modification of medical laboratory scientist intern's circular to
include post NYSC placement and beyond.
9)Minimizing the lopsidedness in the membership of boards of
management of tertiary hospitals.
10) Implementation of the court judgement in favour of medical
laboratory scientist on separate department in the hospitals.
11) Need to define the functions and power of honourary consultants
in teaching hospitals and the need to appoint more hospital based
consultatnts instead of honourary
consultants.medicalworldnigeria.com
12) Need for residency program for other health professionals.
13) Issuance of guidelines on appointment of chariman, medical
advisory committee and the committee's composition.
14) Need for complete autonomy for the teaching hospitals by
removing university lecturers as head in some clinical departments.
15) Need to urgently set up a collective bargaining agreement
committee to look at the following allowances for JOHESU members
a. Headship allowance
b. Administrative allowance
c. professional allowance.
d. Excess work load allowance
e. Health and safety site allowance
f. responsibility allowance
g. reduction of the present excess taxation on health workers
salaries
h. restoration of working days as annual leave
medicalworldnigeria.com
It is our hope that governement would quickly accede to these
demands bearing in mind that JOHESU members have exercised
sufficient patience and maturity (for more than one year) over thier
demands.
Please accept our highest regards and assurances of our best
wishes

August 20th and stole 13 pieces of Catholic Reverend sisters attire.
The DSS says with the recent increase in female suicide bombings, the stealing

Politics / President Jonathan Sick, Flown To Germany by kachy: 8:20am On Aug 23, 2014
Contrary to official claims that President Goodluck Jonathan travelled to Germany on a private visit, LEADERSHIP authoritatively gathered yesterday that the president actually took ill and left for Germany to seek medical care.

Efforts to get a confirmation from the Presidency failed up until the time of going to press, as several calls to his spokesman, Dr Reuben Abati, did not go through and he didn’t respond to an email enquiry either.

Similarly, the senior special assistant to the president on public affairs, Dr Doyin Okupe, did not pick or return several calls to his mobile number last night.

President Jonathan left for Germany yesterday after performing the closing ceremony of the National Conference on Thursday.

Prior to his departure, presidential spokesman Abati had issued a terse statement saying the president would be making a private visit to Germany as from Friday (yesterday)and would be accompanied by some of his principal aides.

It was gathered that the president, on arrival in Germany, headed for a private hospital for medical check-up.

It could not however be confirmed if he went to the same hospital he had visited with his wife last year when the first lady faced some health challenges.

Before his sudden departure for Germany on Thursday, President Jonathan was billed to host members of the just-concluded National Conference to a dinner at the Presidential Villa, but the programme was cancelled at the dying minute.

Although no official reason was given for the cancellation, it was gathered that the development was connected with the president’s state of health which required urgent attention.

An authoritative source in the Presidency told LEADERSHIP that despite assurances that the president would return soon from his trip, it was not likely as his health situation was not too good. He said there was uneasy calm and anxiety in the Presidential Villa yesterday over the state of health of the president.

Meanwhile, the situation has also elicited concern from prominent Ijaw (President Jonathan’s ethnic group) political leaders, some of whom converged on the home of a prominent elder statesman from the ethnic group in Abuja to deliberate on the matter. A source privy to the meeting hinted that the Ijaw sons were considering sending a delegation to visit the president.

The source said before the meeting ended, it was agreed that clearance would be obtained from the Presidential Villa on whether the president is in a state to receive visitors before it would be decided on who would visit him.

Some people had speculated about Mr Jonathan’s health just before his trip to Washington, DC, United States, where he attended the 2014 US-Africa Summit early this month.

saying that all Yorubas are this or all Igbos are this. In every group of
people, there must be good people and there are bad people. Of course,
the good may be more than the bad or the bad may be more than the
good in any group. But there is no any party that is exclusively for the
good people or for the bad people.”. Continue...
He said that his defection was not borne out of his desperation to realize his
political ambition but was based on his patriotic zeal to serve the country and
its people.
“It is not true that he (Ribadu) was desperate to realize his political
ambition. This is because this decision was taken in the overriding interest
of serving the people. What matters for him is service. That is why even
when he was a member of the opposition party, when government asked
him to serve the country, he accepted the offer and he did a wonderful job
that everybody hailed except those who don’t want change in the system.
If you are ready to serve the people, sometimes you will have to do
something that is not even palatable to yourself.” he said
Meanwhile see what Nuhu Ribadu said about his rumored defection from APC in
April...

Some guys just post ignorantly post without checking the book. Other health professionals are not regulated by MDCAN or NMA . They have their own reg bodies that confer them consultant based on laid down rules approved by the govt. So nobody just wake up and do that. UCH ibadan has been doing this for years nobody raise eyebrow till appointment of Chukuw as health minister ,nma dummie .

Can the structural engineer regulatory body prevent appointment of Architect as consultant claiming it will cause confusion in the building site?

It is good they now in court. It is time for NMA to be put where it belong.

It seems you know better than I do here, but then, is the title consultant conferred by NMA or MDCN to the doctors?

Doctors will sufer with privatization.Currently, many of them are out there no jobs. No where to do internship talk more of residency. At times I laugh when they use privatization as threat. It is as if they do not know what they really want.

barcanista: How can Dokitas be superior when they do not own the Health Care Sector? ASUU like you pointed out is made of Academics from DIFFERENT fields in the Academia. I don't see any correlation here.
The Health Sector is made of different professionals with each having their distinctive roles. It is fair for Dokitas to give sanity a chance.

That's why there are different specialties in medicine. So you see the correlation?

If their hazard allowance for sitting in their offices making useless diagnosis should be at Least 100k, How much should the hazard allowance for lab scientists, Radiologists who are exposed to greater hazards in the laboratories nko?

Na God go punish NMA

You seem not to know the difference between radiographer and radiologist. Besides that, both do not work in laboratories. Google is your friend. Try visiting more often. And for the records, whenever anybody you know falls sick, make sure you don't visit a doctor since God would have probably finished punishing all the doctors by then.

What does it even mean to be a consultant in the field of medicine? From what I gathered, it has nothing to do with the number of years one has practised medicine. And that's why there are medical officers that are never referred to as consultants, no matter how long they have practised medicine. Now a pharmacist that dispenses drugs to patients and in some cases directs one on how to take them, wants to be called a consultant for such duties.SMH. Simply because he/she feels she has been doing such for so many years and deserves to be called consultant on this premise. I think its absurd, but then this is naija where anything goes. Consultant ambulance driver, consultant cleaner, consultant radiographer cheesy grin grin grin

Please, isn't it obvious that the sole aim of this JOHESU is to fight doctors? If not, how come doctors are not part of JOHESU, or are doctors not health workers? I really pity our country where we tend to always copy what others do without the proper facilities, attitude and orientation. Someone wants to be called a consultant, but has nothing special to offer to justify the title. Degrees over-stretched, simply to add the acronym DR to your name. If that's the case, let all the courses be stretched to 6yrs, so we can also have D.acc, D.marketing, D.maths. etc. SMH

people are more interested in getting favours from God, but are not willing to do God's work. "seek ye first the kingdom and every other thing shall be added unto you".you live in sin and pay your tight, what's the point? I think the emphasis should be more on christian living than titheing

Let's say 3000 people apply for this, the chief medical director will be cooling off with 60,000,000.Unaccounted for. Its really a pity that Nigerians just live their daily lives even with all these wickedness. So many countries won't tolerate such.

In the old testament, God actually dwelt in the temples that was a part called the holy of holies. That was why Solomon built the magnificent temple for God. But in the new testament, things changed because of the coming of Christ, and the issue of temple building was abandoned. I still wonder who the buildings are being constructed for these days. Anyway, its left for God to judge.

Crime / Woman Burns Son’s Face And Stabs Him In The Head For Stealing Soup by kachy: 11:10am On May 26, 2013
A 25 year old petty trader has been arrested by police in Ibeju Lekki for allegedly burning her 6 year old son's face for going into their neighbour's home and licking their soup.

Not only did Sakirat Attah burn her son's face with hot iron after the neighbour reported her son to her, she also used a broken bottle to stab young Daniel in the head. You can see the photo below. How you can do this to your own child is beyond me.

Sakirat took her son into their one room apartment after finding out what he did, locked the door, lit a stove, put an iron spoon on it to get hot and used it to burn his face and hands as punishment. And when that wasn't enough, she broke a bottle and stabbed him in the head, leaving a deep cut. Daniel later told police he stole the soup because he was hungry.

Neighbours who heard the little boy screaming for help entered the room and rescued him from the mother. They rushed him to the hospital and called the police on the mum.

Shakirat Attah has been charged before an Igbosere Magistrate’s Court in Lagos on a one count charge of assaulting a minor occasioning bodily harm. She's currently in Kirikiri Prison, pending when she fulfills her bail conditions. I hope they take this child away from her.
