Virtually every sector is feeling the huge impact of fuel and hopes the current Administration handle it with every level of seriousness and utmost alacrity.

Now the beasts are been overburdened and duties of a Lorry and Truck transferred to it.

Politics / GEJ Meets US Presidential Precinct Board by Kajiang02(m): 10:25am On Nov 11, 2015
Former President Goodluck Jonathan, who arrived the United States of America, yesterday, as a guest of the Presidential Precinct, Challotsville Virginia, has assured the international community that African leaders are displaying more commitment to democracy and good governance, as a means of engendering sustainable development and improving the lives of the people.

Jonathan who arrived the institute accompanied by a delegation from the Nigerian Embassy in Washington, also advocated the readiness of Nigeria and Africa for the sustenance of democratic principles, peace and people-oriented governance.

He was received by Francois Baird, Chairman of the Presidential Precinct Board. The Presidential Precinct, a foremost global institution designed to empower the next generation of leaders, is currently hosting Jonathan for his role in Nigeria’s smooth democratic transition, especially with the seamless handover of power from the ruling party to the opposition.

At the Presidential Precinct breakfast, President Jonathan was received by former Governor Jerry Baliles of Virginia and Francois Baird Chairman of the Presidential Precinct Board. His hosts described him as a ‘Hero of Democracy’ in Africa, a nation builder and sustainer of true democratic principles and good governance.

While in the United States, Jonathan is billed to be hosted by other strategic US pro-democracy institutions where he would be sharing his experience on peaceful and transparent elections as well as the future of Africa’s democracy. The Presidential Precinct is a consortium uniting six American landmark institutions – four of America’s most important historic sites and two of the country’s most outstanding public universities.

These include the College of William and Mary (America’s second oldest university), the University of Virginia, William Short’s Morven, and the homes of three Founding Fathers;President Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello, President James Madison’s Montpelier and President James Monroe’s Ash-Lawn Highland.

Jonathan has hit the international circuit lately, with last’s week’s appointment by Commonwealth to lead negotiations for the resolution of the political stalemate in Zanzibar, coming as his latest high profile assignment. It followed his leadership of the Commonwealth Observer Group (COG) to last month’s Tanzania general election which came as an affirmation of the former President’s towering status as the moral face of democracy and transparent polling in Africa

You probably have a lot of reading to do. Whilst one understands your concept of a fraternity, especially as it relates to our Nigerian Tertiary institutions, NAS abhors same too.
I'm surprised this got to the media. Whoever leaked this forgot to add that the next day, a local govt in Crossriver state (Calabar South) witnessed a medical screening of all body system for various illnesses where every patient were giving the right drugs, glasses for eye defects/correction etc.

Activities happen every time by this body, I wouldn't wanna cite examples over the years and decades, but a very closer example would be reaching out to different communities over the last 6months (what is done every month or qtr)where they handled distribution of relief materials and sensitization campaign in the "World street child day project" in April, screening and administering drugs to over 250patients in a community on hepatitis, diebetes in May, deworming and administering drugs for river blindness, filiaris (partnering WHO) to adults and children in a community and primary school in February etc.
These few things spelt out here are regular activities handled by different zones in states which is strictly for the betterment of the various communities.
Let us all strife to build a better man, and build our community.

Politics / Seadogs Donates Library To NAPTIP In UYO For Trafficking Victims. by Kajiang02(m): 8:32am On Aug 03, 2015
The National Association of Seadogs (PC) has donated a library to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons for the use of rescued victims of human trafficking.

The Zonal Coordinator of NAPTIP, Mr. Nwachukwu Innocent, said in Uyo on Friday that the facility would enable the rescued victims to acquire knowledge.

He said, “The action, which is part of a community development initiative has no doubt confirmed to us that you, the Seadogs, are worthy ally in our anti-trafficking efforts.

“These children, in most cases, are victims of human trafficking, child abuse, child labour, or vulnerable to be trafficked by traffickers. Thye need all the help they can get.”

The Captain, NAS, Prince Ifeanyi Onochie, said the project had been in the works after the 3rd NAS Charity Red Ball held in Uyo in July 2013.

He added that the project was initiated under the theme, ‘Give a Future to Disadvantaged Children: the Play and Read Initiative’.

He said, “The objective of the initiative is to set up Creative Play Rooms and ICT-LRRs (ICT/Library/Reading Rooms) for orphanages and Street Child NGOs in Nigeria under our NAS Street Child Project.

“This followed from the 3rd NAS Charity Red Ball and 8th Ralph Opara Lecture and based on the organisational perspective that education empowers people and is a veritable solution for improving the lot of disadvantaged children: an idea completely in sync with one of the cardinal principles of the National Association of Seadogs (3rd Compass Point) – For Humanistic Ideals.

“Since 1952, our founders, including the Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, and other members, through the years, have continuously focused the attention of the Pyrates Confraternity towards the attainment of a just society.”

Onochie stated that the organisation was shocked when it learnt of 2012 figure of out-of-school children in Nigeria.

He noted that the statistics from UNESCO and UNICEF showed that Nigeria accounted for 10.5 million of the 61 million out of school children worldwide.

He added that 40 per cent of Nigerian schoolchildren between the age brackets of six and 11 years were out of primary school and added that another 30 per cent were dropouts, while only 54 per cent transit to junior secondary school.

He said, “These worrisome data stirred up emotions and pertinent questions: where are these out of school or dropout children located? Why are they not in school? How are they engaging themselves to stay busy? Could they be out in the streets being exploited, abused and vulnerable to criminality?

“No doubt, it is clear that poverty remains the underpinning factor of the plight of our children and their education.”

It gets funny seeing comments from individuals here trying to identify, curse, and speak various lingua to signify his group whilst forgetting reason topic was created.

I haven't seen members of the group (NAS) as mentioned by the OP come here to make derogatory remarks of other pseudo groups which really confirms their non-existent in institutions of learning cos the maturity exhibited by members of this group is to be modeled.

Can we pls stick to the essence this topic was created whilst the populace is sensitized on what this group stands for, their commitments to the society and non-existence in our institutions of Learning.

Romance / Re: Having Kids With A Spouse You Do Not Love? by Kajiang02(m): 7:00am On Jul 08, 2015
Op,
Let's Analyze this from some viewpoints.

You get married to who you share love and commitments from, somewhere during marriage, Love dies.
Truth is, a child shouldn't bear the hurt in marriage consummated by adults but we find situations where out of emotional trauma, a woman may decide that her husband started loving her less since the kids came, and his attentions shifted.
Another case could be from mothers without orientation of the huge sacrifice contained in bringing life to the world, and may be inclined to not loving the offspring due to what she term as stress in child support.
As a human, I'm more tilted towards unconditional love for my kids irrespective of my feelings for their mum which I think is ideal and will keep me going.

@Godskidmidas
Not all who seek custody of kids do this for love. Major cases are just to hurt or spite the other party. Haven't you heard of women who struggled for custody only to hand over the kids the grandparents.

i just pity all those states affected

The funny part in the article is where I learnt the few places Boko Haram took over is larger than the entire Belgium as a country.

No one is screaming Blue murder, no one is crying now the media isn't on rampage and some occasion, we don't get to hear of the blasts till days later.

Did the Military really relocated to these zones as ordered by PMB? Or it was just part of a wonderful speech given.

I think the APC really did well in their campaigns and took advantage of every opportunity they get in smearing the former ruling party.

Truth is, Boko Haram has really struck so much that one tends to think if this will ever end.

How exactly did it get this worse?
Politics / Is Boko Haram Back In Full Force? (221 Killed Since May 29) by Kajiang02(m): 1:09pm On Jul 04, 2015
The APC in-fighting is the current national talking point, but Boko Haram insurgents should be dominating the headlines. Just when Nigerians are about to say it is over, the insurgents seem to be saying “you ain’t seen nothing yet”.

Between May 29, 2015, when President Muhammadu Buhari was sworn in, and June 24, at least 221 lives have been lost in Boko Haram attacks, concentrated on Borno and Yobe states.
This time around, the attacks have not been territorial — a battle the Nigerian military seemed to have won convincingly — but asymmetrical. The days of ground and aerial battles aimed at dislodging the insurgents from their camps may be over, but the suicide bombings are far from vanishing. But observers would even be more worried that the government currently says nothing about these attacks — unlike in the past when statements came from the president’s office to express sympathy with victims and re-assure Nigerians that things would soon be under control.

Is the war on terror collapsing? The general election which was scheduled to take place on February 14 was shifted to March 28; that is, by six weeks. The reason for the delay, according to the past government of Goodluck Jonathan, was to give the military additional time to subdue insurgents who were on an obsequious quest of churning up human carnage in the northeast of the country.

True to the excuse for delaying the election, the Nigeria military managed to “cut the Boko Haram insurgents to size”. As a matter of fact, the military freed the northeast states of Yobe, Adamawa and Borno from the throttling hegemony of Boko Haram. Not that the military totally expelled the insurgents from this region, but they wrested control from them.

Boko Haram had controlled a swathe of land the size of Belgium before the military’s offensive. And even Gwoza, the caliphate of the sect was retaken. And in a push to flush out the insurgents from their last fort, the Nigerian military invaded Sambisa forest, stoning it with bombs and piercing it with artillery. It captured one the sect’s commanders, and recovered military hardware and software.

Abubakar Shekau, Boko Haram’s leader, was sent into hiding (is he still alive?) for he has not been seen in propaganda videos issuing his accustomed threats since the military’s offensive. The effort of the military in this stead, no doubt, mitigated the frequency of attacks, most especially suicide bombings, and Nigerians were in agreement that the Nigerian military was asphyxiating Boko Haram and its networks.

AND BOKO HARAM “ROSE FROM THE ASHES”

However, not long after the inauguration of President Muhammadu Buhari on May 29, Boko Haram struck reminding the president that it was still “alive and well.” Seven people were reported killed by twin explosions at a village wedding in Borno on the same day.

On May 30, a day after Buhari’s inauguration, a suicide bomber struck at a mosque in Maiduguri during the afternoon prayer session killing at least 16 people.
On the same day, suspected Boko Haram insurgents fired rocket propelled grenades into Dala Lawanti, west of the city, killing about 13 people. Boko Haram’s archipelago of atrocities continued into the second week of Buhari’s government.

At 1pm, on June 2, an improvised explosive device (IED) concealed in a butcher’s table detonated killing about 30 people at a busy meat market in Maiduguri. Not fazed, the sect struck again the next day, June 3. An IED, the accustomed death device of the insurgents, detonated killing a few people at a military check-point in Baga, Borno state. And on June 4, a suicide bomber hit Jimeta main market in Yola, Adamawa state, killing at least 10 innocents.

On June 7, the intensity of Boko Haram’s attacks ossified as it unleashed another blood-shiver on a popular “cow market” in Maiduguri, killing an unspecified number of people. However, in a failed mission on June 11, three female suicide bombers prancing to carry out attacks in Bauchi died by the device of their own hands. Explosives strapped on their bodies detonated prematurely on a highway leading to the city before they could reach their target. That however adds to the series of attacks by Boko Haram since the dawning of the Buhari government.

On June 15, multiple blasts killed about 10 people at Potiskum in Yobe state, mostly police officers and members of the local vigilante group, who were trying to stop man carrying an IED and heading for the Potiskum market. After a few days’ hiatus, Boko Haram struck at a fish market on June 22. This time, two female suicide bombers disguised as beggars detonated their explosive-laden bodies at the market about 4pm, killing at least 30 people. And on June 23, a suicide bomber killed about 10 people at a market at Wagir in Gubja local government of Yobe state.

On June 24, 40 persons were killed in a raid on Borno villages by the insurgents. As at last count, 221 persons have died in Boko Haram attacks since May 29. Expectedly, ending the insurgency has become the focus of the Buhari government, but as of now it appears there is nothing stopping the bombs from “booming”.
