Nigeria, Palestine Move to Deepen Diplomatic Ties, Reaffirm Support for Peace

Nigeria and the State of Palestine have taken steps to further strengthen their bilateral relations following a courtesy visit by the Palestinian Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency Muhannad Halmouri, to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja.

The meeting, held on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, saw the Ambassador received by the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, OON. Discussions focused on deepening diplomatic cooperation, as well as reviewing consular, humanitarian, and regional issues of mutual concern.

During the meeting, Ambassador Halmouri conveyed warm greetings from the Palestinian leadership and expressed appreciation for Nigeria’s longstanding support for the Palestinian cause. He recalled the historic ties between both countries and commended Nigeria’s consistent moral and diplomatic stance at international forums.

The humanitarian situation in Gaza and other Palestinian territories also featured prominently, with the Ambassador briefing the Minister on current challenges and constraints to humanitarian access. He acknowledged Nigeria’s support for peaceful resolution of the conflict in line with international law.

The Palestinian Ambassador also expressed interest in a future visit to Nigeria by the Palestinian Minister of Foreign Affairs, which could include high-level engagements and possible interaction with Nigeria’s National Assembly.

In his response, Minister Tuggar reaffirmed Nigeria’s enduring support for the Palestinian people and reiterated the country’s commitment to justice, peaceful coexistence, and respect for law. He assured the Ambassador that the concerns raised would be addressed through appropriate diplomatic channels in line with Nigeria’s foreign policy principles.

It's like Nigeria dividing our current money by a thousand so a dollar will be 1.45 naira instead of 1,4500 naira. And minimum wage becomes 70 naira instead of of 70k. And a litre of fuel becomes 77kobo instead 770 naira.

To the naive, the naira may seem to gain value. But in reality, a teacher must still work for a full month to earn 70 naira. And that 70naira will still be 101.5 dollars.

So nothing special. The only advantage is the ease of calculation.

Now why did Nigeria devalue its currency in the first place? And the Ghanaian rebasing their currency based on your explanations here , does it make any economic sense?if yes, what and what and if No, who is fooling who ?

The dollar you're talking about, at an average of $17/hr; that 17dollars can get you a decent lunch or some groceries ( so you can work one 8hr-day and and be able to feed yourself for almost 4 days - in Nigeria, at minimum wage of #70k (#2,500 per day, roughly #300 per hour - #300 can only buy you two coaster biscuits of 4pieces each).

So if you're calculating, be detailed.

Let’s be factual and not emotional. Ghana’s currency situation is often misunderstood. This is going to be the case if Atiku, Amaechi, Obi or kwankwasso do not get their either ways.

Court cases will be instituted by the losing side(s) to annual the Primaries and whoever emerges.

Obi will be the first to institute one before a Federal High Court because he will emerge as the candidate aspirant with the least delegate votes.

Kwankwaso who is in the ADC to cause as much confusion as he can will also challenge the results of the outcome. Have you wondered why Kwankwaso will even leave his own party that he has a strong grip on to join ADC?

Amaechi is the one most likely to get the ticket but with the likes of Tambuwal in same ADC now who is backing Atiku, a repeat of what transpired in PDP 2023 primaries may repeat itself and this may see Atiku emerging as winner. This won't sit well with Amaechi. The only candidate most likely to accept his losses and not go to court is Atiku.

So whoever emerges as candidate will face a swarm of law suits challenging both his emergence and the ADC in court.

And knowing outcomes of such suits are always determined up to the supreme court, the final verdict will only be out long after the 2027 elections is determined and PBAT declared winner and sworn in.

So you should expect disgruntled elements working against their party during the election proper.

If Atiku emerges, the likes of Amaechi and Kwankwaso will work against him. If Amaechi emerges, Tambuwal will play the northern card and ensure ADC NW and NE members don't vote for Amaechi.

If Obi emerges, everyone in the party who contested alongside him will work against him.
