Anyone conversant with the drama going on in the North between the Fulanis and their Hausa host will understand the sheer reason why the predominantly Fulani political class in the North is rejecting the state police they once lended their voices in support of.

If you recall when Buhari was in power, El Rufai headed the presidential committee on constitutional reform and restructuring , in one of its reports, recommended the state police structure sitting the out dated policing system of maintaining a mono policing system for a vast Nation as Nigeria, will not make the country safer and as such,policing should be expunged from the exclusive list of the FG.

Even up till Tinubus Presidency, I can recall on several occasions where some northern governors and politicians lended their voices in the call for state.police. Now, the big question is, What's has changed ?

The reasons is short and simple, a state police mean arming the Hausa who at the moment are dagger drawn against the Fulanis in their various communities in the North. The recent awakening of the Hausa is not sitting well with the Fulani lead political class as they are even getting rumours of planned uprising by the Hausa to dethrone the Fulanis dominated traditional institutions that has being holding sway for two centuries now and the call for change is now loudest.

The state police means policing of every communities by the indigenes of the state and of which, the Hausa are more in number both in numerical strength to demographic spread. Conditions like this,wil not in anyway advisable for such a change to be introduced into a system that has already boiled to it's saturation point and an out right rejection means, a safer step that must be taken to still maintain their hegemony.

The same is said to be the case in the Plateau, Benue, Taraba, Nasarawa and other middle belt states where the Fulani land grabbing activities are in full throttle. But on the flip side, they have only two regions where they can pass such votes in their favour as such will not trickle down south and the middle belt as the state police is here to stay for real.

The fear of arming the Hausa is just the simple reason..If you recall,many of them have been clamouring for state police until it became a reality and found out that the Hausa have woken from their deep slumber and for that it's now an existential threat to the predominantly Fulani lead political class in the North.
