nuclear bomb - this was developed as a weapon, Hiroshima was no accident, it wasn't a thing of ooh, we have this bomb, lets drop it on Hiroshima

HIV, SARS - these are not products of germ warfare.

conflicts - slave trade - this is too convoluted

the veracity of your examples are convoluted to say the least and plain wrong in some cases.

Please, por la amor de dios, stop with the lawyers are liars until you give good examples of what you mean. As far as I'm concerned, nobody has yet to give any good statements backing up these sentiments. That being the case, arguments are currently invalid. What do you mean lawyer's are liars? Like I said, everyone lies. It doesn't stop you from doing what you do? Why is it a problem that people who become lawyers lie too? Personally, I would be more affronted by politicians and presidents lying than lawyers. . but that's Nigerians for you.
PoliticsRe: Will Atiku Get the Boot Soon? by kamakula: 3:29pm On Sep 02, 2005
The corruption in the US does not affect the country in that corruption in Nigeria affects Nigerians. Also, in the US, once the person who is corrupt is identified and there is proof of the corruption, in most cases, they are arrested, trialed, fined, and/or jailed. The chances of them getting back into their position of power diminishes to very little. There is no, oh, he is a senator, we can't touch him because he may move against us in some other means. Even the president (remember Nixon and Watergate?) is not safe - though I must say Bush has survived so maybe American's are growing soft. This is in stark contrast to Nigeria where the greatest anticorruption arrest has been of an assistant police chief.

well, I don't know about Nigeria but in the united states there is the idea the everyone is entitled to be represented. I'm sure that in Nigeria, if I was reasonably powerful, rich, and smart, I could set something up where you would think that a person commited a crime that they actually didn't. Also, in the US, it is presumed that everyone is Innocent until proven Guilty. Also, they must be proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Furthermore, the means in which they are found guilty must be just, fair, and correct. If the police beat someone to get a confession, that "loophole" cannot be allowed to exist. If the prosecution does something that has some issues on how legal it is or how much it conforms to the law, we should allow them to continue using it so we can jail people we "think" are criminals? There is a limit to how far you can trust a person in power to do their job justly. That is why we have so many checks and balances - police, prosecutors, lawyers, legislators, judges, and the general populace - we are the final check because ultimately we will decide in which direction we want things to go - if we care enough and can stop fighting each other to do so.

Ok, here is the article from nature magazine: http://npg.nature.com/news/2005/050815/full/436913a.html

And now Africa's large mammals are dying, stranded on a continent where wars are waging over scarce resources.
This seems to be the main reference you are talking about. This makes the argument slightly more interesting and ends my disagreement for the most part.
TravelRe: Rewilding North America by kamakula: 7:13pm On Sep 01, 2005
To start with, small numbers of animals, including elephants and lions, would be released on private land.
does not seem to imply ALL the animals. . . .

The Director General of Tanzania's National Environmental Management Council, Magnus Ngoile, rejected the US scientists' premise that Africa's large mammals "are dying, stranded on a continent where wars are waged over scarce resources."
Ok, the second article suggests there is more to this, however, unless I take the time to look, I cannot be sure. In the absence of evidence to the contrary, I would have to say the so far, no one has suggested that Africa's largest mammals are in danger - the original plan seemed to me to be advocating REintroducing the species to america for purposes other than conservation though I can imagine from a business standpoint, it does not hurt to sell the idea as a conservation one too.

ok, now I'm going to read the article.
CrimeRe: Internet 419 by kamakula: 6:51pm On Sep 01, 2005
and what is the monetary damage computer hackers are causing on a daily basis? Do you know what 419 really is? The most common definition or alias is advance fee fraud. It is more than just pretending to be the lawyer of the late General so and so. With ebay, they write you and say, I see you have this laptop for sale. I really need it fast and will pay you 2-5 times the amount to send it immediately. I'll send it via western union. So, the person who is new to ebay, cannot believe they are so lucky, they are praising God for the miracle of ebay, gets the fake Western Union confirmation letter that the money is on the way. They don't think to call Western Union themselves because they trust what they see. They ship their item, and five weeks later after getting no more response from their buyer, they call and find out it was a scam. Or, you are going to buy something and see it offered at a good price - not ridiculously cheap, but say $100 below the typical price (on ebay). You cannot believe this. You contact the person, they say sure, but to be safe, I prefer escrow. You lookup what is escrow and it is a third party holds the money until the buyer verifies that they have recieved the item and then the money is sent to the seller. You think, ha, I'm not going to fall into the trap that other people do by not having the means to recover my money if I never get the item, so you join the site. Send in your money and then, two days later, when you goto check the website for any update, the website no longer exists and your money is gone. Or the reverse, you are selling, the buyer says lets use escrow for safety, you send the item when you see the money is in escrow, and when you return - the website is gone.

So many people fall prey to these scams not because they are stupid, but because they are trusting and hopeful. It is human nature to want to believe in the improbable. That is why people continue to waste their money on lotteries. That is why people continue to be hopeful even in the face of abject poverty. They believe that all it takes is hard work and maybe a bit of luck and they will make it. So when an opportunity presents itself, they have worked so hard for this moment, they feel that they are so deserving, they are so excited, that even when they see something they should question, they will ignore it as - oh, the person's mother language is not my own, oh, the person lives in another country so it makes sense that they need it this way, oh, this email has all the stuff from such and such company, it must be real
TravelRe: Rewilding North America by kamakula: 6:26pm On Sep 01, 2005
I haven't read the article but the responses suggest that the scientists are proposing that ALL the animals be moved from Africa to the USA. If so, then yes, the idea is plainly stupid, if not. . . what can they do about it? I can't think of many laws that would prohibit someone from introducing a sample of each to a preserve in the united states.
BusinessRe: Theft at Work; Department is Under My Supervision by kamakula: 6:14pm On Sep 01, 2005
Seun, you don't have to be a control freak - institute a policy where people can anonymously report misbehavior - at all levels, that way, someone can report a bad boss without too much conflict and then you or someone higher up than the boss can start your own investigation if there is credence to the report.

corporate policies may frown upon dating in the workplace but I don't think its totally banned. In terms of one of them being able to discipline the other, if they can't keep their personal life out of the workplace, fire them both.
PoliticsRe: Vigillante, doing more harm than good? by kamakula: 5:06pm On Sep 01, 2005
vigilante's are ok. . just rude?

what country do you live in? Oh, Nigeria, where the vigilante's you arm today will become the robbers of tomorrow. Give me a break, vigilantism is never a solution, it only makes the problem worse. What happens when you fix the police problem, you think the vigilante's will suddenly go away? Maybe some, the rest will just become another problem. Vigilante's are outside the law, and they know it. One day, it may be ok for them to kill the robber who attacked you. Tomorrow, they can be arrested for their crime. Police are the designated enforcers of the law. It is best for all of us to hold everyone accountable to the rule of law and work to make the police better, than take the law into our own hands.
PoliticsRe: Will Atiku Get the Boot Soon? by kamakula: 4:55pm On Sep 01, 2005
It seems many of you misunderstand what diplomatic immunity covers. One thing it does not cover is your personal home. Jefferson is currently under investigation for corruption - specifically using his position to forward the interests of a telecom company. In the meeting with Atiku, he supposedly asked for Atiku's help in smoothing the way for the company to do business in Nigeria and left a letter for Atiku to "present" to the proper authorities. Now, what the company is supposed to do is submit their proposals through proper channels. Atiku in fact left the letter in his house. It was found by the FBI in their search.

- If he was in fact going to help Jefferson, he could destroy the letter and just personally convey Jefferson's message
- The fact that he left the letter there suggests that he knew something was up - maybe he's been tipped off about a sting on Jefferson

In any case, I doubt there would be that much more info on this from the FBI, at best, whatever else will be Atiku's word.
RomanceRe: Can A Guy and a Girl Just Be Friends? by kamakula: 4:05pm On Sep 01, 2005
as far as this - most guys will take it to another level, girls will do it too.

guys are more likely to befriend girls who are interesting to them on a variety of levels. girls can be good friends with you and the only thing that initially drew them was because the guy was smart. for guys, its the girl was smart AND pretty. So you can see how guys can fall into the trap of taking it further a lot easier
RomanceRe: Can A Guy and a Girl Just Be Friends? by kamakula: 4:01pm On Sep 01, 2005
just friends - as long as one of you is not single then yes.

typically, if both are single, the longer they spend time together, especially without someone else catching their eyes, the more they will be attracted to each other. It's human nature to seek deeper companionship. Face it, friendship just isn't enough for most people, they want deeper relationships too.
Nairaland GeneralRe: The Nigerian Police Force: How do you view them? by kamakula: 3:54pm On Sep 01, 2005
Does anyone here have good factual info about the police?

For example, is it true they have to buy the fuel for their cars?
What are the requirements for joining?
What sort of training do they go through?

Also, Nigerian presidency
- requirements?

I guess I don't know exactly how to respond since I don't know you well enough but. . .

its not a tale as in a story where you read and then take away some truth or insight. . it is just a question. . . i thought the title was cool as well as a reference to A Tale of Two Cities - I guess it was overkill then. . .
RomanceTribalism In Relationships by kamakula(op): 4:58am On Sep 01, 2005
Yo, again we have a guy and a girl in trouble - though this one is external to their relationship.

The guy and girl are both currently college age students with at least 4 more years of schooling to go (they're both 21).

The guy is of say tribe A and the girl, tribe B. The girl and her family are based in Nigeria though the girl is now at school in the US. The guy's family has lived (for about 2/3) of the guy's life in the US. Surprising to the girl and guy, this is how stuff played out. When both sets of parents found out about the relationship, the girl's was generally supportive and the guy's. . .well totally against it. Here are some sample . . . ahh. . . somethings from the guy's parents

both:
You are too young to be in a serious relationship, You should focus on completing school, getting a job, working for a few years before you start dating.

dad: You should get to know other girls (specifically of your tribe). At this age, an exclusive relationship is an unhealthy relationship, You are young, don't have a serious plan for your future and don't know what you are doing, You should consider your family, extended family, tribe in these kinds of decisions. If you plan on getting married to this person (I guess w/o dating other ppl from the tribe) we will not support you.

So, what do you all think? Does it matter what the tribes actually are?
FamilyRe: Right Age to Date (for children) by kamakula: 4:46am On Sep 01, 2005
yep, I agree, give a child room with guidance - but I will not allow disobediance. If I say you cannot date so and so, you cannot. If I say you'd better be home by this time, you better be home or else. My children will learn early to obey me. They will also learn that not only do I not brook disobediance, I also will not support it. Once they're of the age where they feel they can do whatever they want, then I hope they realize that they are fully adults and can support themselves.

I just cannot imagine how Nigerian parents can live with their children clearly disobeying them and yet continue to give the child money, food, and shelter - of course I'm talking about "children" who are 18 or over. If they're underage, well, you just gotta continue working on them while they are under your legal control.

CrimeRe: She's been raped. Who is to be blamed? by kamakula: 3:47am On Sep 01, 2005
as long as she's is being raped. . she might as well enjoy it? I'm guessing that everyone who said this is either joking or saying that for shock value.

What happened to everyone who wants to argue homosexuality is wrong because the bible says so, apparently, though the bible says rape is wrong, you all don't care. (I say this both seriously and sarcastically)

So, I suppose that if I see someone trying to slit their wrists, it will be ok for me to cut off their head since they were already killing themselves right? Or if I see a child drowning in a pool, I should hold them down, or if I see a car with the keys in the ignition and the doors unlocked, I should steal it because the owner is obviously making the car available to be stolen or if someone drops their wallet or purse and continues to walk away, I should pick it up for myself because the person was not protecting their valuables well enough so it is ok for me to take it, or if my grandfather slips and falls down the stairs and breaks his hip, I can go ahead and break more bones in his body because he let himself get old and is asking for bones to break due to his weakness or . .

Ok, I am getting tired of writing more. I think I've made my point. . . .. More and more, I'm starting to be really disappointed by human beings - right now its mainly Nigerians since of recent, I've been looking at a lot of related forums. . . or maybe its the anonymity of being online that is allowing people to say things that they don't really believe, people trying to fit in for some strange reason with someone or something else.
RomanceGirl Wants To Marry Earlier Than Boyfriend, Etc. by kamakula(op): 2:06pm On Aug 30, 2005
Boy Vs Girl

Let us say that a guy and a girl are in a relationship for about 2.5 years. They met in the first years of college. The guy has lived most of his life in his country and plans on living most of the rest of his life there. The guy plans to complete his PHD and estimates that the earliest he'll be done is by the time he's 25. His current number one priority in life is finishing his education. The girl is also in a similar situation education wise (though she's estimated to finish a year after him). However, she's grown up in another country and would like to live out most of her life there. Since she's been a child, she's known that she wanted to be married in her early twenties and have all of her children by her late 20's.

So, in her relationship with this guy, she feels that she has done a lot to be with the guy. She has realized that being with him means she may not start having kids till her late 20's or even into her 30's. She has decided that to be with him she will live in his country for most of her life, instead of in her own. However, all she wants now is a commitment from him to get married by the age of 25.

They both say they are in love with each other, however it is the guy's thought that while she feels she has already sacrificed a lot, he cannot allow those to become leverage against his own wants. While he does know he wants to marry her, he does not want to commit to a time any more definite than 25-27. (BTW, they're the same age).

So, the question for you, is what the girl wants too much to ask?
