MrAladin: Father, I ask You to bless my friends, relatives and buddies. Show them a new revelation of Your love and power. Holy Spirit, I ask You to minister to their spirit at this very moment. Where there is pain, give them Your peace and mercy. Where there is self-doubt, release a renewed confidence through Your grace. Bless their homes, family, finances, their goings and their comings. In Jesus' precious name. Amen. Amen. God bless you bro |

Christianity Etc › Re: A Thread For Catholics by Kamsified: 9:05pm On Aug 17, 2014 |
striktlymi: Okay I am inspired to say a bit on it.
The first thing we should realise here is that the Jews, like Africans, have a way of conveying a message or two via the use of proverbs. Jesus, in truth, did not call the lady a dog or implied that her people were dogs. He simply tried to show the Apostles in practical terms how important faith and persistence are. The theme of faith has been a recurring subject which the Apostles were quite slow to grasp. So he used whatever opportunity to remind them of their importance.
Jesus was sent first to the Jews, and through the Apostles, to the rest of the world. Considering his mission to the Jews, He is not expected to go beyond that for which He was sent. In a nutshell, it would be impractical for him to do things before the time that was allotted for them. Helping this lady, from that view point would be a bit off, just like It is wrong for a parent to give the food that is meant for the Children to dogs. Despite the difficulty in her request, Jesus still fulfilled it because all that is required to move mountains (an impossible task) is a faith that is as small as a mustard seed, which the lady had.
Jesus already knew he would fulfil the request of the lady. He could have done it without 'saying a word', just like he did with the Centurion's servant. The Centurion wasn't a Jew like this lady but Jesus didn't say same for the Centurion because it was not relevant to pass the message of faith across to the Apostles at that time. Thus, the proverb was not really meant for the lady but for the benefit of the Apostles. Inspired indeed. Thanks a million times for this. Remain salty bro |

jnrbayano: Our master needed to teach his disciples, the woman and us a lesson there.
He wanted us not just to say we have faith in him, but to put into work and persevere in it as well.
Also to let us know that someone outside the church can also express deep faith in him, and we must always be accomodating to everybody.
Thanks dearest. I agree with you and equally I'm marveled by the woman's humility cos as much as she needed her daughter delivered, some of us(if in her shoes) would've bn offended even from the time he didn't respond at all. God will help us to learn to persevere even when he seems as though he's not listening to our pleas for one thing or the other. |

Christianity Etc › Re: A Thread For Catholics by Kamsified: 11:52am On Aug 17, 2014 |
SalC: Oops... I believe the words and action of Jesus Christ in that passage was not that of rejection but trying to drive home two salient points.
1) Israel (the literal israel) happened to be a nation after God's heart, God chose and loved them, therefore gave them utmost consideration in virtually every of his plans for humanity. The woman in question was a Cannanite, (those who God allowed to be defeated in other to establish the land of israel) therefore they could be said to be secondary in God's plan of salvation yet a woman from among them came seeking for the succour originally meant for the house of israel.
Jesus' answer was to show God's plan but remember he went ahead to grant her request when she showed faith in him. This is to say, throw faith or by faith salvation got to the non israelites.
2) That passage show the "strength of faith" the faith and insistence of the woman move Jesus to a point where he couldn't resist not turning the woman down. When he addressed the woman directly or indirectly as a dog, ordinarily the woman would have gotten angry and walk away, but no she insisted.
Unusual faith and attitude attracts God's favour, the woman showed unusual faith in Jesus which he couldn't even find in Israel and she received what was originally meant for the children of Israel.
This is to teach us the benefit of faith, patience and perseverance in God. With these, we stand to be steadfast and not give up thereby attracting God's unmerited favour.
My 2 cents. Nnem thanks for your wonderful contribution. Believe me when I say I've had this question in mind for a very long time. Doesn't this suggest some serious par-tia-li-ty Anyway let me wait for more contributions before I conclude. Thanks again dearest sis. God bless you |
