I like what you're doing. One of the rare people on here who is in it for the experience and enjoyment rather than purely for profit. Do you think you can make one for HuminBehaviorz? Just abbreviated to HB with maybe a star, space, and brain theme and a blue, white, black, and silver theme? Thanks

Culture / How To Make African Culture As Appreciated As European, Asian, And American by Kanoro: 2:04am On Oct 03, 2015
All filming is complete and the only thing holding me back from this is voice acting.

I am creating a recurring YouTube series based on pre-colonial African kingdoms, culture, history, and mythology. As mentioned before, it will be a recurring series so I am only looking for dedicated and committed actors/actresses. The story takes place on a mythical world that has very close parallels to the real world. Many of the place names and cultural practices are familiar while many are purely imaginative and mythical (ie:Game of Thrones or Lord of the Rings). The protagonist is a young boy (who grows up after a few episodes) by the name of Kanoro who lives in a large and luxurious home that stands out from the small round mudhuts of his rural home village. He and his younger sister Udo are harassed by some of their jealous neighbors which leads them to lots of trouble. Another one of the main characters "Derrick Jamerson" who will appear in the second episode is a strange man from the future bearing a business suit, a gun, and many other strange modern objects such as a cellphone. He has no idea how or why he has found himself in the past and refuses to believe that he is, simply reassuring himself that he has only found himself in a very remote and "undiscovered" and "primitive" part of the modern world. Little does he know, his technological superiority over these people of the past is only short-lived and not as much of an advantage as he originally thought. For the sake of keeping my story safe and not spoiling it for anyone, that is as much as I can and will share at the moment. It will be a thirller/fantasy storyline rich with lore and culture from many precolonial African Kingdoms. Namely those of West Africa. I have had many volunteers for acting before but none ever seem to follow up with me so please do NOT contact me unless you are 100% sure that you want to be a part of this series. I want dedication and dedication only. Without further due, these are the roles that I need:

Kanoro: The protagonist of the story, and 11 year old boy who has a very brave and goal oriented personality. He is very protective over his younger sister and has high morals and values.
Udo (Already have 2 but if you can get me what I need quicker then the role is yours, neither of them have sent me completed scripts yet): Kanoro's younger sister who is 8 years old with a wild and brazen personality. She never seems to take anyone seriously nor does she have respect for anyone other than her older brother.
Sauda: A 44 year old, grumpy overweight neighbor in Kanoro's village who constantly harasses Kanoro and Udo out of pure jealousy.
Enzi: Sauda's youngest son who is 11 years old, chubby and Kanoro's best friend. He is well aware of how Kanoro is treated by his brother and father but he tries to avoid any involvement at all costs. He is a very cheerful, playful, and kindhearted boy.
Jelani (Role taken): Sauda's eldest son (17 years old) who is very powerfully built and similar to his father in the fact that he harasses Kanoro and his younger sister Udo. However, he tends to try to find reasons or excuses as opposed to his father who simply directs unsolicited anger at them.

I do not expect Hollywood quality acting but I at least expect something convincing and imposing. For example, if a character is angry and yelling, I want to hear actual angry yelling. If a character is laughing, I want to hear actual laughing. Again, please do NOT contact me if you aren't going to be active and reliable to this project. I don't want to have to constantly track you down and follow up with you. If you contact me at all, please be ready and willing to take part in this and only email me if you are following the instructions below:

1.) Breifly describe any background experience you have with acting, animating, music making, or anything else that you think would be valuable to this project. If there are none, do not worry. I judge everyone based off of their audition. Be sure to specify which character you are interested in portraying as well.
2.) Ensure that you have a decent microphone free of static or background noise and that when you speak into it, you aren't blowing any air.
3.) Go over the sample script below in a voice that would match the character that you want to do.
4.) Lastly, just email me the voice clips after you have recorded them.

Here is the sample video reference to allow for easy syncing of the voice clips to the script.

Kanoro: (Starts to walk away unknowingly toward Sauda). It is not that at all, it is just that we need to do our chores before Mama wakes up. I do not want to get into trouble aga-[6 seconds] (Interrupted by accidentally walks into Sauda’s belly without looking)

PART II of the sample script audition just to give a general feel for expressing emotions and behaviors:

Ridicule: Yes Abasi, please do explain why I am to pay you ten Okpoho for this. It is painfully embarrassing to watch this.
Happy: Haha I told you I would catch you. It is far too easy.
Humor: Liar! Admit it, I was too fast for you! Heehee, Kanoro could not even catch a nine year old!
While lifting something heavy: Let go of the damn spear!
Confused: But Kanoro did nothing wrong. What lesson is there to learn?
Worried: Your father is not particularly happy with me right now either.
Sarcastic/stern: Udo… you do realize that you are the reason he does not like us, right?
Anger: HEY BOY, WATCH WHERE YOU ARE GOING! AND KEEP DOWN THE NOISE. NOT ALL OF US LIVE IN GIANT HOUSES LIKE YOURS THAT BLOCK IT ALL OUT!
Sadness: Enzi… just go. Jelani is wrong in everything he is doing. I do not want you to get into trouble.
After being hit in the stomach: Gyahhh *cough* *cough*

I do not expect you to match your words with their lip movement, so as long as your clips are as long as the time stamps on the script. If you have any other questions not covered in this post, feel free to ask. Do not email me saying "I want to act in your animation, what do I do?" because all of the instructions are here. Also don't forget to like the Facebook page and subscribe to the YouTube channel. Thanks!

an ingenious creation ! but the script is weak... you don't use weak conversations for audition. i tried making a meaning but..... nothing. moreover the video clip is not complete

Seeing as this is a recurring series of short films, giving a script that has a "story" would give away too much of the episode and would defeat the purpose. I did however take your advice and I took some notable parts from the animation to express different actions and emotions that will need to be portrayed. I posted it in a reply above.

Here is another sample script that I would like to include in the Audition. The purpose is to review how well you are able to act out actions and emotions.

Ridicule: Yes Abasi, please do explain why I am to pay you ten Okpoho for this. It is painfully embarrassing to watch this.
Happy: Haha I told you I would catch you. It is far too easy.

Worried: Your father is not particularly happy with me right now either.
Sarcastic/stern: Udo… you do realize that you are the reason he does not like us, right?

Well the last post that you commented on told you that I can't pay anyone at the moment. That's why I put so much emphasis on following the instructions this time. I've been getting so many emails that asked questions that were already answered in the OP.

Fair enough. I guess I could put a more interesting part of the script and video into it. I literally just cut out the first few lines of the video. The whole video is complete minus the voice acting. I guess the main purpose of this was simply to gauge how well the actors were at syncing the lines with the characters and the video which appears to be the biggest challenge so far. The acting in itself is something that is very easy to gauge.

I want to bump this post by saying I'm basically done with all of the filming and most of the editing. The only thing holding me back is the voice acting. So far I have only received voiceovers from one actor who did the part of Jelani. I've gotten a decent number of volunteers but none of them ever follow up or send me sample scripts and I'm not particularly sure why. Please do not volunteer if you're just gonna change your mind later. Even if you do change your mind, please at least have the courtesy of telling me. I still need dialogue for the remainder of my characters. Please send me voiceovers of the sample script if you are interested in acting. Thank you.

I will be airing a recurring stopmotion series on YouTube based on pre-colonial African kingdoms, cultures, and mythologies. Unlike most African based animations out there, I won't be focusing on the typical "tribal" aspects. I will be focusing mainly on the powerful kingdoms, architecture, folklore and mythologies. The first episode takes place in a small rural village but the as the story progresses, more of the powerful kingdoms, armors, and weapons etc will begin to emerge. I want the animation to be convincing and imposing though so I'd like some dedicated actors to partake in this. I don't expect Hollywood quality but I do expect the acting to at least be passionate and convincing. For example, if there is a part where a character is yelling, I want to hear actual yelling from the actor. I will need acting for the following parts:

Kanoro (Main character): An 11 year old boy with a brave, stern, intelligent, and confident demeanor.
Udo (Kanoro's sister): An 8 year old girl with very wild and brazen behavior and little respect or fear of anyone except for her brother.
Sauda (Kanoro's neighbor): A 44 year old overweight and angry neighbor of Kanoro who constantly harasses Kanoro and Udo over the most trivial things. His motives and intentions are unknown.
Enzi (Kanoro's best friend): An 11 year old boy, one of Sauda's sons and the best friend of Kanoro. Though he is aware of how Kanoro and Udo are treated by his father and brother, he tries not to get involved and has a very kind heart.
Jelani (Sauda's eldest son): The 16 year old, tall and muscular brother of Enzi and similar to Sauda in that he constantly harasses and borderlines bullying Kanoro any time the opportunity presents itself.

I am unable to pay anyone at the moment but if this series kicks off, then it may be a possibility in the future. In order to audition, just simply go over the sample script below which is also accompanied by the matching video sequence of the acting. This is to ensure that the voice acting is well synced and good enough for the animation. I don't expect it to match perfectly with their lip movement but I do expect it to at least match the length. For example, if a character speaks for 5 seconds, I'd like the voice clip to be 5 seconds as well. Please also ensure that all voice clips are free of static or background noise and that when you speak, you aren't blowing air directly into the microphone.

I have only just begun filming so the voice clips aren't urgent, however I'd really like some dedicated actors. I've made several posts for this so far and at this point I may just have to do all the voice acting on my own... smh. I originally stated that I needed people who could do African accents. However... seeing as I'm American myself, and to broaden the potential actors, any accent will do just fine. I've gotten 3 replies but none of them have replied to me since they volunteered. Those quoted below, please contact me on one of the links I provided in the last post... If you changed your mind or you think you'll be too busy just tell me. I'd rather not be left in the dark. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to ask. Thanks:

U shld find a way to do that and I dont think a synopsis is a spoiler as majority of ur target audience are not on Nairaland
Definitely. I'll be sure to link it here when I do. Would you be interested in acting in it if the story sounds promising?

Ur post is not indepth of the project itself, I think you should let propective Cast & Crew members what the series is about and I mean the Synopsis/Storyline etc I think it would be more inciting but now im sorry to say it isnt even after going through the Youtube video. But I must say I commend u as its a nice initiative

You're right and I did consider this but at the same time, I just don't want to any spoilers. I guess I can try hard to figure out a way to summarize things without completely giving it away.

Yes, in Igbo wink

Can you send me a message on the Facebook page? I'll reply with a sample script. Just so we can both get a feel for things. Thanks smiley

Yes, that was me.
Awesome. Just send me a message on Facebook and I'll give you a sample script to practice. If you'd like to do that and send me the files. Sort of like an "audition" type thing. I'm not too picky but I at least want a bit of a sample of what to expect. Thanks!

This is depressing.... seriously? Nobody? sad If this was an anime based on medieval Japan, I'm sure people would be all over it. This is YOUR history people. Why not do your part to bring it out of the depths of ignorance?

Here is a brief summary of the YouTube series itself:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0LKvgZRqRJ4

I have made a few posts on here as well as other websites before and unfortunately people usually just look the other way when they see posts like these. We need to come together and bring Africa to the same level of appreciation as Europe or Asia. We need to stop focusing so much on football and the latest music albums and focus more on bettering ourselves and our place on this Earth. I'm an American but I am one of the few who really truly appreciates his African roots and has knowledge of the richness that I come from. Anyway I digress. I'd really like some willing, wanting, and enthusiastic actors to help me with this animation. I'm not expecting Hollywood quality but I do want enthusiastic actors to partake in this animation. I can't pay anyone at the moment but if this series kicks off, it may be a possibility that I can in the future. All I ask from you is the following:

1. You are online daily.
2. You have a microphone with good quality. (no static or muffled feed)
3. You have decent and convincing acting. I don't expect it to be the best but at least enough for people to take it seriously.
4. You are able to speak in any African accent.

I can provide a sample script that you can practice and "audition" for me and I will also be sure to include you in the credits at the end of each episode.
