Literature / Re: Which Book Are You Currently Reading? Share Some Thoughts! by kasual(m): 1:23am On Jul 15, 2015
dearpreye:
We've been repeatedly told that readers are leaders. Also, that he who doesn't read has a very little advantage over the one that cannot read. To read is to learn and grow. We won't stay long enough to experience all life has to offer. We need to read to learn from the lessons and experiences of others.

It's very saddening that in this age, despite the overwhelming abundance of information, a lot of us don't really study.

All the information we need to succeed in life has been written. Be it on money, marriage, health, business, family, success itself, religion. Name it. It's been written.

I'm currently reading THE ROAD LESS TRAVELLED, By Scott Peck. It's being an awesome read. The author talked on pleasure, suffering, discipline, delayed gratification, child training and religion.

I'll talk briefly on self gratification. It's the ability to forego today's even legitimate pleasure for tomorrow's gain. Without it, wealth, health and joy will elude the individual. No one can truly succeed without this vital ingredient of life. To delay gratification is to prioritise. To delay gratification is to always look at the bigger picture.

The future is hardly far away. It comes pretty quiver than we can imagine. Time hasn't waited for anyone. If we must live a happier tomorrow, we must be mature and brave enough to delay gratification. I'll encourage as many as possible to get a copy of this great book and travel in the mind of the author.

So, let's see which book you're currently reading. Any book. And don't forget to drop a line or two from it. Thanks.

Lalasticlala and Ishilove, please let's do justice to this thread. Readers are leaders.

.

I do read the book from time to time. Things like; the sins of our fathers, Transference the outdated map. And most especially, what love really is not. Such as love is not dependence, and the opposite of LOVE is LAZINESS.

Google came under fire this week after its new Photos app categorized photos in one of the most racist ways possible. On June 28th, computer programmer Jacky Alciné found that the feature kept tagging pictures of him and his girlfriend as "gorillas." He tweeted at Google asking what kind of sample images the company had used that would allow such a terrible mistake to happen.

Google’s chief social architect Yonatan Zunger responded quickly, apologizing for the feature.
As part of the new Photos app, users’ photos can be tagged and arranged automatically based on objects in the photos. For instance, pictures of skyscrapers are all arranged in an album appropriately labeled "skyscrapers." The tag feature learns as it receives more data, refining its method for recognizing and categorizing objects. The feature is flawed, but categorization isn’t the only step in photography that companies have had trouble with.

For years, Kodak used a coating on its film that favored Caucasian skin tones, making it more difficult to shoot darker skin. Nikon and other consumer camera companies have also had a history of showing bias to white faces with their facial recognition software. Zunger says that Google has had similar issues with facial recognition due to inadequate analysis of skin tones and lighting. "We used to have a problem with people (of all races) being tagged as dogs," Zunger says.

Google attempted to fix the algorithm, but ultimately removed the gorilla label altogether. Zunger noted that the company is working on longer-term fixes that revolve around which labels could be problematic and better recognition of dark-skinned faces.

Africans should fight back with innovative technology: be it software, applications or social gadgets. The moment we put ourselves under their banner by relegating our status. #we are not second to any skin colour, but equals#

Let us set the records straight! how many Igbo states carry-out oil activities in their area? The real places (South-South) where oil is found are not 'Biafran' territories and they are not in support of your 'Biafran' agenda.
You call the amalgamation of the North and South as an unholy one, but you go ahead to amalgamate the South- South in your so called map despite their repeated refusals.
'Biafrans' Why not study geography and see why your dream is dead on arrival!

NYSC / Advice To Serving Corps Members To Upgrade! by kasual(m): 12:44pm On Jun 20, 2015
Greetings to corps members/ intending corps members wherever thou art. I know we all have our various perceptions (good or bad) about the service year *NYSC*. However, as an ex-corps member *now a Gold. Winks* I have a very simple advice for you currently serving.
Please do well to upgrade your C.V while serving with credible programmes be it six (6) months or three (3) months.
Their payments are very flexible and spread over the duration of the programme.
The above will give you an edge over others whose highest qualification is a BSC, BA, B.ENG, B.ED, HND etc.
It also shows your potential employers that you have passion for self improvement
It helps you to diversify your career.
#finally don't just go home with your NYSC certificate since you are in a new land, learn something practical which you can stand firm on. Besides no need to be humiliated/shy learning any handwork, remember you are in a land where nobody knows you are. Lols#
Watch out for distractions, friends, ladies, guys, flexing and know how to curtail them. Remember you are not a kid!
Thanks.

Romance / Being Indifferent In A Relationship: How Healthy Is It? by kasual(m): 12:05pm On Jun 20, 2015
Overtime, this is one ugly trend these days. A guy after wooing a girl and has won her over the relationship proceeds and suddenly begins to have some fault-lines such as cold shoulders, missed calls, unreplied text messages or failing to comment or even like one's posts on social platforms.
I believe it is improper to be indifferent in a relationship because the wooing/ forming time is over. What's your take on this issue dear Nairalanders?
Politics / Will You Support Amnesty For Boko Haram? by kasual(m): 11:29am On Jun 20, 2015

Remember peace is paramount.
