HI bro,

I am an intermediate c# programmer, I will like to work with you to gain more experience.

My portfolio : library management system, inventory management system, church management system, different AI softwares, native mobile applications using xamarin, etc

I have never worked on something big or for a client before, those are just personal works I single handedly built myself.

Why is nobody looking to develop desktop applications again these days? Technically they are the easiest applications to sell to a business or firm.

You are not a programmer at all.

What is a computer science certificate esp in a country like Nigrria?

What will uou learn ? 2004 version of html, css and js?

Any company that request for a computer science is a company who knows nothing about web development.

No standard software development firm will ask you for any dead certificate.

I hope you finish your project and post here. I've never seen anyone here complete a project they claimed was in the works.

Lol sure. Will put finished product on GitHub repo

Are you working on any solo or group project at the moment using C#? If you want to collaborate you can drop a reply.

I'm working on a solo project. It's an application that has a CRM, Expense Tracker and Product Catalog feature. Meant to be simple and effective with a Web, desktop and mobile app version. Also meant to implement a recommender system to make it give suggestions to a user.

Tech stack:
C#
Entity Framework Core and Microsoft SQL
ASP.NET core MVC and Razor Pages
XAML and Fluent design
Xamarin

Programming / Re: I Want To Learn Programming. Which Language Should I Start With? by kaypompee: 7:54am On Aug 25, 2018
If your aim is simplicity then I'm sorry but you're starting off on the wrong foot. To be a developer means making a commitment to solve problems, think outside the box and constantly do research. All of which are not simple, except you want to program as a hobby.

While at it also remember to implement error handling for users who enter wrong information. E.g they enter a string instead of an integer or float. That would be in your method main. In c# it would be something like:

Write("Please enter deposit amount: "wink;
If( int.tryParse(ReadLine(), out int deposit){
depositMethod(deposit);
}else{
Write(" Invalid entry. Please enter a numerical amount: "wink;
}

So write the Java equivalent of that etc...

Hope it's helpful

corruption is how the old bini empire broke too and everybody scattered all over the place.....

Backward progression is what I have concluded is in black Africa's DNA. That's my humble opinion. It's not even for just Nigeria. All other non black African countries seem to have their act together

It’s only true for those who are lazy upstairs life is difficult here but has many opportunities than most of those western world.

Despise sars, no light, corrupt police and dangerous politicians here in Naija their is still more opportunity here

I have found that 99% of the time, when people say this, what they are referring to is 'corrupt opportunity'.

The opportunity in Nigeria is from the fact that you can bribe your way to a lavish contract. You can negotiate kick backs with government officials and you can find new openings from your affiliation with corrupt politicians.

There is no opportunity for the common man. The earlier we call a spade a spade and realize this white man spoke the truth the better.

Forget machine learning if you aren't a whiz in Math who can develop dynamic algorithms . Big Data analysis may be easier to get into if you learn python and R programming language.

Programming / The BEST Advice For Newbie Programmers... by kaypompee: 8:47am On Aug 12, 2018
When I first took the decision to learn to code, I suffered from major indecision issues. One day I would want to learn java, another day I'd be convinced Python or Ruby was the best bet. This got me frustrated as I would eventually download a book, read the first 20 pages and somehow be convinced it's a mistake grin and then download another book and start over.

Worst part of it all is that at the back of my mind I was worried that time was slowly passing by and I needed to get my act together. Looking back, I can now see some of the things that made me indecisive, which new programmers should avoid in my opinion, they include:

1. Frequently going online to check what languages are in high demand and pay best: Guys trust me, DONT DO THIS. Learn to code, enjoy coding, and explore the language to its full capacity. Eventually you will get so good and your skills will be recognized. Do not let your choice of language be based on demand or Financials. It's not a bad thing to research top skills o, but in my experience it almost forced me to learn a language I hated and had no passion for.

2. Following the crowd: When you check programming forums you may be tempted to simply pick up a language that so many people seem to be buzzing about. E.g. on Nairaland people really seem to love python. Try as much as possible to not let this influence you. In my case, I started out with javascript based on its recommendations, but I quickly got overwhelmed with all the frameworks that seemed to be coming out every two seconds, vue, angular, react, meteor etc.... It's scary for a newbie.

3. Paying too much attention to what you see recruiters list as skills needed for a job: This is good but also bad. Good because it gives you an idea what some of the skills you need to be hired are but also bad because half the time these recruiters aren't tech people's themselves so they probably don't know what they are saying. If you pick a language and explore it to its full potential, then chances are you have a shot at the job regardless of whatever is listed on a job posting.

So in conclusion, how do you go about selecting a language? Truth is, there is no strategy to it. Currently I code in C# and dot net core. I found myself loving it when I decided what I wanted was a language I could use for Web, mobile and desktop apps. If in your case you decide to specialize in one of the three, simply get an ebook, dive into it and shut out the noise. You won't regret it. A good resource for ebooks is smtebooks.com Good luck!

Thank you. That answers some questions.
Youre welcome. Note that setting that h1 property will affect all h1 elements in your code. So including an ID as suggested above is good as well.

Well, you'll get better answers on stackoverflow.com. The site is tailored for questions like this..

But hey! You got your answer yeah? Good!

This programming section is also tailored for that, in case you don't know.

Try setting a margin property for the heading. It should work. Maybe between 10 to 20 pixels. So your css code should look like h1{ margin: 10px }

Pls know what you're saying Pls

Debugging by developers alone. undecided undecided

Debugging means checking your code line by line to see what the output will loOK like when looking for errors.

When you input a code into an interpreter the output may bring out error either because of
syntax you missing commas, semicolon
Semantic where the output isn't giving you the result you envisage like getting an 8 when you expectEd a 9
Or crashing....

Anybody can debug.

Anybody can debug Ah. Wahala dey o grin
In this age of emphasis on clean and well formatted code to ease maintenance by developers, you're now saying a non developer can debug??
Programming / Re: Differences Between Testing And Debugging In Programming Of Software Application by kaypompee: 10:05am On Aug 01, 2018
ROSYL:
Lol Op ended up confusing newbies.

Testing is fundamentally a processing of checking if the system is working as expected while debugging is simply the activity performed by developers to fix bug found in the system.

In other words, testing is the process of detecting error in software while debugging is the process of removing that error.

Shikena.

But instead OP started talking about loops grin

In becoming a software developer your job is to be able to develop for any platform. It's OK to specialize in Web, desktop or mobile but nothing stops you from doing all of them. With C# and dot net core, you can cover all of them. Simply get a good book and look out for the following content.

Asp.Net core razor pages and MVC -WEB
XAML and fluent design -DESKTOP
XAMARIN.FORMS -IOS and ANDROID

You use C# for them all and they will be cross platform. Good luck
