In what appears to be a new twist and campaign strategy by the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) government in Abia State to win the votes of Abians in the coming gubernatorial and state House of Assembly elections, Christian faith denomination has been introduced as a panacea to win the minds of electorates.

The new twist in campaigning for votes by Abia PDP is now seen as virtue for equity and it is gradually taking the frontline of debate and their campaign.

In the latest development some PDP faithful and stakeholders have affirmed that it is the turn of a member of a Roman Catholic faith to be the next governor of Abia state.

Joe Igbokwe, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Lagos State has begged Igbos in the state to vote for the All Progressives Congress(APC).


Igbokwe urged Igbo communities in Lagos to repay the hospitality extended to them in Lagos State by voting for APC on Saturday.

Stressing that Saturday’s election provides an opportunity for Igbo to cement their relationship with Yoruba, Igbokwe said, “please vote for APC all the way.”

In a Facebook post, Igbokwe said Yoruba had created a conducive environment for Igbo in Lagos and the South West to thrive.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national working committee (NWC) has expelled Chimaroke Nnamani, senator representing Enugu west senatorial district.
In a statement by Debo Ologunagba, PDP spokesperson, the party said the decision to expel Nnamani was taken at the NWC’s 566th meeting held on Friday in Abuja.

He said Nnamani and six others were expelled for “anti-party activities and other grave offences in violation of the constitution of the PDP”.

Abubakar Malami, attorney-general of the federation says the federal government would obey the supreme court order restraining the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) from banning the use of the old naira notes from February 10.

A seven-member panel of the apex court led by John Okoro, made the ruling on Wednesday in an ex parte application brought by three states: Kaduna, Kogi, and Zamfara.

The AGF has also filed a preliminary objection challenging the jurisdiction of the court to entertain the suit.

Nigerian singer, Peter Okoye, has stated that Seun Kuti, a Nigerian musician and youngest son of the Afrobeat pioneer, Fela Anikulapo Kuti is irrelevant without his father’s name.


Peter blasted Seun in a series of posts shared on his Twitter handle on Wednesday.

Trouble started when Seun referred to the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi as an opportunist.

Bola Tinubu, presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), says governors elected on the platform of the party saved the country from “avoidable and dangerous political crises”.

Tinubu was reacting to the supreme court ruling on the deadline for the naira swap.

A seven-member panel of the apex court led by John Okoro, a justice, on Wednesday temporarily restrained the federal government from banning the use of the old naira notes beyond February 10.

The ex parte application was filed by governors of Kaduna, Kogi, and Zamfara states.

In a statement on Wednesday, Bayo Onanuga, media director of the APC presidential campaign council, quoted Tinubu as saying that the country was heading to anarchy but the ruling has brought it from the precipice.
“I want to salute the courage of our governors and most especially the progressives governors in APC who acted to save our country from avoidable and dangerous political crises and social unrest which the central bank policy on new naira notes has brought on our country,” he said.

The Supreme Court on Wednesday suspended the February 10 deadline for the swap of old naira notes with new ones given by the Central Bank of Nigeria.


The CBN had moved the deadline earlier set for the expiration of the legal tender status of the old notes from January 31 to February 10 after the CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele, met with the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.).

Nigerians have been groaning under the pain caused by the deadline as they are unable to get the new notes, while the old notes are being sold to them by Point of Sales vendors.

Pockets of protests had broken out in some states including Delta, Ekiti, Ogun, Oyo and Ondo, with officials of banks being attacked by protesters and bank properties destroyed.
Moreover, the naira redesign policy has caused some wrangling within the ruling All Progressives Congress with some chieftains of the party alleging that the policy is targeted at reducing the winning chances of the APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, at the February 25 poll.

Tinubu also had made some comments in some of his campaign rallies which were believed to be directed at Buhari and some unnamed persons in the Presidency, a notion that the APC PCC spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, had continued to dismiss.

He also alleged that Buhari was “deceived” by the CBN to give a nod to the controversial naira redesign policy.

The Economic and Financial Commission, EFCC, on Monday, arrested a senior bank official in Abuja over hoarding of N29m new naira note.


The staff is the Operations Manager of “a leading commercial bank” in the Central Area, according to EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren.
The manager refused to load the Automated Teller Machines, ATMs, despite having N29million of the redesigned naira notes in the branch’s vaults.

Uwujaren said before he was whisked away for further questioning, the operatives ordered the loading of all the ATMs.

The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC), Abdulrasheed Bawa, has been ordered to be remanded in prison for 14 days.

In a sitting presided over by Justice R.O. Ayoola of the Kogi State High Court, on Monday, the court granted the application for committal to prison of the EFCC chairman.

Bawa was remanded for disobeying a court ruling delivered earlier on November 30, 2022, reports The Punch.

Chief Ikechi Emenike, the embattled gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Abia state, has emphasized that the size of Abia's budget is a critical problem with governing Abia state.

The Nigeria Police Force has said the force would replace all its officers attached to Ajiwe station Division of Lagos state command.
