PoliticsAPGA Suspends Senator Abaribe by kcmichael(op): 9:10am On Mar 13
The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Abia State Chapter has announced the indefinite suspension of Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, representing Abia South Senatorial Zone over alleged anti-party activities.

The suspension, which took effect on Friday, September 26, 2025, was conveyed through a resolution of the State Executive Committee (SEC) of APGA in Abia.

The party accused Abaribe of gross misconduct, disobedience to party directives, and actions that have allegedly brought APGA into disrepute.

In a letter signed by the State Secretary, Pastor Peter Nduka, APGA said Senator Abaribe’s suspension followed resolutions reached during its SEC meeting in Umuahia.

According to the party, the Senator had been found guilty of actions deemed detrimental to APGA’s growth and survival.

The party explained that it had earlier issued a 24-hour notice directing Senator Abaribe to respond to allegations of anti-party conduct, but having reviewed the situation, it found grounds to proceed with disciplinary action in line with Articles 21(1)(K) and 22(1)(B) of the APGA Constitution, as amended.

The resolution read in parts; “Immediate and indefinite suspension as an APGA member in Abia state.

“Pursuant to the resolution reached in the meeting of the State Executive Committee (SEC) of our party held on the 26th day of September. 2025 at Umuahia.

“I am directed to formally notify you . follows: That you have been suspended indefinitely from APGA with immediate effect for anti party activities an action which has exposed the party to public ridicule.

“That your suspension shall stand, pending the hearing and determination of your case by a disciplinary Committee to be set up by the party.

“The party has equally notified all relevant institutions, including security agencies and the general public of this development”.

PoliticsAppeal Court Judgment Provides Opportunity To Rebuild PDP, Says Wike by kcmichael(op): 7:15pm On Mar 09
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike

Insists March 29/30, 2026 convention being planned by National Caretaker Committee holds as scheduled

The Minister of the Federal Capital TerritoryThe Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said the judgment of the Court of Appeal affirming the nullification of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national convention held in Ibadan provides an opportunity for the party to rebuild and restore unity among its members.

Wike, who spoke with journalists in Abuja on Monday, maintained that the ruling confirmed that the convention conducted by the PDP in November 2025 could not stand because the party failed to comply with statutory provisions guiding such exercises.

According to him, the court’s decision reaffirmed the need for political parties to strictly adhere to the provisions of the 1999 Constitution, the Electoral Act 2022, as well as their internal rules and guidelines.

“When you do not comply with what the law says, it cannot stand. It does not matter who is chairman or who is not chairman. What matters is compliance with the law,” Wike said.

The minister explained that the court established that necessary procedures, including the conduct of valid congresses in some states and proper notice to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), were not followed before the convention was held.

He added that once such legal requirements are ignored, the matter goes beyond internal party affairs and becomes an issue of compliance with the law.

While reacting to the judgment, Wike described the development as a significant moment for the party, saying it reaffirmed the supremacy of due process and the rule of law.

“Today is one of my happiest days because, as a party that claims to uphold democratic principles, we must not condone impunity. We must follow due process and allow the rule of law to prevail,” he said.

Wike recalled that he had earlier warned that steps taken in violation of the law would eventually be set aside by the courts.

“You cannot rely on money or power and assume that because you are a governor or a powerful figure you can do anything. I thank God that the law has spoken,” he added.
The FCT minister urged members of the PDP to use the judgment as an opportunity to rebuild unity within the party rather than prolong internal disputes through legal battles.

“For me, it is an opportunity for the party to come back together. We have fought enough. It is time to drop personal interests and see how we can move the party forward,” he said.

Wike stressed the need for the PDP to remain strong as a credible opposition party in the country.

“The PDP remains the only strong opposition party we have. What we should be doing now is to put our house in order so that the party can continue to play its role effectively,” he said.

He further explained that with the court affirming the invalidity of the Ibadan convention, the leadership structure that emerged from the exercise could no longer be recognised.

According to him, the party had already constituted a caretaker arrangement to manage its affairs pending the conduct of a valid national convention.

He disclosed that the PDP leadership is working towards organising a fresh national convention scheduled for March 29 and 30, 2026, where new national officers would be elected in accordance with the law and the party’s constitution.

Wike said the convention would be held at the Velodrome of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, adding that arrangements had already been concluded for the exercise.

“We have already established the National Caretaker Committee. When the tenure of the National Working Committee expired, we said the law does not allow for a vacuum. The caretaker committee was recognised by the Federal High Court to run the party until new officers are elected,” he said.

The Court of Appeal had earlier upheld the judgment of the Federal High Court restraining INEC from recognising the outcome of the PDP national convention held in Ibadan, ruling that the party failed to comply with legal requirements before conducting the exercise

PoliticsWin For Wike’s Camp As Court Nullifies PDP’s Ibadan Convention by kcmichael(op): 11:26am On Jan 30
A Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan has nullified the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, National Convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15, 2025.

The court barred members of the Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee, NWC, from parading themselves as national officers of the PDP.

The court also ruled that the Caretaker Committee led by Mohammed Abdulrahman and Senator Samuel Anyanwu is the only recognised NWC of the PDP, pending the conduct of a valid National Convention.

The court ruling is the latest twist in the protracted crisis rocking the PDP.

Politics4 House Of Reps Members Loyal To Governor Fubara Dump PDP, Defect To APC by kcmichael(op): 3:17pm On Dec 18, 2025
Four members of the House of Representatives from Rivers State have formally switched their political allegiance from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Congress, APC.

The lawmakers’ decision comes barely a week after Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, defected to the ruling party, further reshaping the state’s political landscape.

Those who crossed over to the APC are Manuchim Umezuruike, who represents Port Harcourt I Federal Constituency; Boniface Emerengwa of Ikwerre/Emuoha Federal Constituency; Awake-Inombek Abiante, representing Andoni/Opobo Federal Constituency; and Boma Goodhead, the lawmaker for Asari-Toru Federal Constituency.

The development emphasises a growing realignment among Rivers State political actors following recent shifts at the state level

Governors Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Bala Mohammed (Bauchi) and factional National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Tanimu Turaki were part of a crowd tear gassed by police operatives to disperse a crowd of supporters at the PDP National Secretariat on Tuesday.

The Governors and Turaki were denied access to Wadata House by Senator Samuel Anyanwu-led faction, which manned the main gate.

As the gathering became rowdy, police operatives fired tear gas to disperse the crowd.

But the gate was thrown wide open when FCT Minister Nyesom Wike arrived the Wadata House.

PoliticsPDP National Convention To Go On Despite Party Crisis by kcmichael(op): 2:47pm On Nov 12, 2025
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said its national convention will proceed as planned this weekend in Ibadan, despite reports of internal crisis and attempts to halt the exercise.

In a statement signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, who also serves as secretary of the National Convention Organising Committee (NCOC), the PDP dismissed rumours that the convention had been postponed, describing such claims as deliberate misinformation sponsored by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“The National Working Committee (NWC) and the 2025 National Convention Organising Committee (NCOC) inform all party members and the general public that the 2025 National Convention of the PDP has not been postponed but will go on as scheduled on Saturday, 15th to Sunday, 16th November, 2025, in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital,” the statement said.

The party accused the APC of plotting to destabilise the opposition and impose a one-party state, alleging that agents of the ruling party were attempting to infiltrate its ranks and disrupt preparations.

“We are aware of the plots by the APC to destabilise the opposition and impose a one-party state in the country; a design that will be lawfully resisted,” Ologunagba added.

The PDP, which governed Nigeria from 1999 to 2015, has been struggling to reclaim its national foothold after a series of electoral setbacks and internal disputes.

The Ibadan convention is expected to address leadership restructuring ahead of the 2027 general elections and mend fractures between party factions loyal to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and those aligned with key governors, including Rivers State’s Siminalayi Fubara and Oyo State’s Seyi Makinde.

The upcoming convention comes amid rising tensions within the opposition landscape.

Last month, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) urged political parties to comply strictly with internal democracy provisions, following multiple litigations over parallel congresses in several states.

Security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS), have reportedly been placed on alert ahead of the weekend gathering to prevent any disruption.

Despite the challenges, Ologunagba said the PDP remained focused on strengthening democratic institutions and preparing for credible elections.

“The NCOC and the Party will continue to work around the clock to ensure a successful National Convention in Ibadan as scheduled,” he said.

Delegates, party officials and supporters began arriving in Ibadan on Tuesday, with final accreditation and logistics expected to be concluded by Friday.

The convention will elect new members of the National Working Committee and adopt key anticipated resolutions to shape the party’s roadmap for 2027

PoliticsAbuja Court Stops PDP From Convening National Convention by kcmichael(op): 11:20am On Nov 11, 2025
The Federal High Court in Abuja has again halted the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from proceeding with its planned National Convention scheduled for November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The convention was intended to elect new national officers to pilot the affairs of the party.

A former Jigawa State governor, Sule Lamido, through an ex-parte application moved by his counsel, Jephthah Njikonye, SAN, sought an interim order stopping the convention pending the hearing and determination of a motion on notice.

In a ruling on Tuesday, Justice Peter Lifu held that the plaintiff’s application had merit and was deserving of the court’s intervention.

Consequently, the judge restrained the PDP from convening the convention pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit.

The court also barred the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from monitoring or recognising the planned convention pending the resolution of the suit filed by Lamido.

Justice Lifu noted that the plaintiff, a bona fide member of the PDP with an interest in the position of national chairman, would suffer greater hardship if the interim order was not granted.

He added that he saw no reason to depart from the earlier decision of Justice James Omotosho of the same court, delivered on October 31, 2025, which similarly halted the PDP’s national convention and restrained INEC from monitoring or recognising it.

Meanwhile, Justice Ladiran Akintola of the Oyo State High Court in Ibadan has again adjourned the hearing of a Motion on Notice in the suit filed by Folahan Malomo Adelabi against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), its acting national chairman, and other respondents.

However, PDP leaders in Ekiti State warned against alleged subterranean moves by “enemies of the party” to upturn the outcome of the governorship primary won by Dr Wole Oluyede.

Their colleagues in Oyo petitioned the National Judicial Council (NJC), demanding urgent disciplinary action against Justice A.L. Akintola of the Oyo State High Court over “acts of judicial recklessness, impunity and gross misconduct.”

The PDP Convention case, which has attracted growing political attention, will continue tomorrow, following the court’s decision to allow all parties more time to file and exchange necessary processes.

Justice Akintola, after hearing submissions from counsel representing both sides, emphasised the importance of properly filing all relevant documents before substantive proceedings could commence.

The judge stated that the adjournment was necessary to enable the court to consider all pending applications together for a smooth hearing.

The court had, in a ruling last week, granted an ex parte order permitting the PDP to proceed with preparations for its scheduled National Convention while setting Monday, November 10, for the hearing of the Motion on Notice.

PoliticsINEC Affirms Damagum As PDP National Chairman, Sends Monitors Ekiti Primaries by kcmichael(op): 2:50pm On Nov 10, 2025
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reaffirmed Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum as the legitimate and constitutionally recognized National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

This comes as INEC officially dismissed the purported elevation of Abdulrahman Mohammed as Acting National Chairman by a faction of the party loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

In a move signaling institutional clarity, INEC confirmed that it recognizes the Damagum-led National Working Committee (NWC), which currently enjoys the support of 14 out of 17 members. The commission also deployed its monitoring and observer teams to Ado-Ekiti to supervise the ongoing PDP governorship primaries in Ekiti State.

According to INEC sources, the commission’s decision followed a formal correspondence from the Damagum-led PDP leadership notifying it of the primary election. Acting on the letter, INEC dispatched its monitoring officers to ensure transparency, credibility, and compliance with electoral guidelines.

This latest development effectively quells internal controversies within the PDP over leadership legitimacy, particularly as the party braces for a decisive governorship contest in Ekiti ahead of the 2026 election.

Observers say the decision could reshape internal power dynamics within the opposition party, setting the tone for renewed political maneuvering ahead of the general Election

PoliticsCourt Gives Nnamdi Kanu Another Chance To Open Defence by kcmichael(op): 12:33pm On Nov 05, 2025

Wed, 5 Nov 2025 11:26:13 WAT
A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted detained self acclaimed leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, the last opportunity to enter defence in his ongoing terrorism trial.

Justice James Omotosho said on Wednesday that it was his duty as a judge in the case to accord the defendant sufficient opportunity to put in his defence.

However, the judge said failure to do so would lead to foreclosing the case

“We had adjourned till today for the defendant to put in his defence or be deemed closed. But, I am bound to give him another opportunity to put in his defence.”

“If he does not, I will deem him closed. I know that he is an economist and not a lawyer. I will give the last opportunity to the defendant to put in his defence, failure which he would be deemed closed,” said Justice Omotosho shortly before adjourning till November 7.

The prosecuting lawyer, Adegboyega Awomolo, (SAN), had earlier said the court should foreclose Kanu, who failed to enter his defence having spent five out of the six days allotted him by the court to conduct his defence.

Awomolo noted that the court, on Tuesday, adjourned till Wednesday for Kanu to enter a defence in his trial or be deemed to have waived his right to do so.

He further noted that at the resumption of proceedings on Wednesday, Kanu still declined to open his defence as ordered by the court.

Awomolo urged the court to take note of the defendant’s position that he would not enter any defence because there is no valid charge against him.

He then prayed the court to foreclose the defendant and adjourn for judgment.

Earlier, Kanu, who represented himself, addressed the court from the dock.

He maintained his position that there is no valid charge against him to warrant his being called to enter a defence.

Meanwhile, following complaints by Awomolo, Justice Omotosho cautioned Kanu’s former lawyers in the case, who now refer to themselves as his consultants, to conduct themselves within the ethics of the legal profession.

The lawyers are: P. A. N Ejiofor, Aloy Ejimakor, Dr. Maxwell Opara and Prince Mandela Umegburu.

Awomolo had accused the lawyers of granting media interviews and making subtle posts on social media relating to the case.

The lawyers, who Kanu also confirmed as his consultants, were in court to witness Wednesday’s proceedings and introduced themselves as such.

An Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan has ordered the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to go ahead with its scheduled national convention slated for November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Justice Ladiran Akintola gave the order on Monday while ruling on an ex parte motion brought before the court by Folahan Malomo Adelabi, who sued as the claimant/applicant in suit number I/1336/2025.

The defendants in the case include the PDP, its Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum (for himself and members of the party’s National Working Committee and National Executive Committee), the Governor of Adamawa State, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri (for himself and members of the National Convention Organising Committee), and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In his ruling, Justice Akintola granted all the interim orders sought by the claimant, restraining the defendants or their agents from truncating or frustrating the conduct of the party’s scheduled national convention. The court also directed the PDP leadership to adhere strictly to the guidelines, timetable, and schedule of activities earlier released for the convention.

The court further ordered the party and its relevant committees to hold, conduct, and convene the elective national convention as planned in Ibadan, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice. The judge also directed INEC to attend, monitor, and observe the conduct of the convention in line with the Electoral Act.

Justice Akintola stated that the claimant had established a case warranting urgent judicial intervention and commended the claimant’s demonstration of transparency by filing a motion on notice for interlocutory injunction alongside the ex parte application.

The matter has been adjourned till November 10, 2025, for the hearing of the motion on notice.
