PoliticsThousands Of PDP Members Join APC In Rivers by kcmichael(op): 2:29pm On Sep 02, 2022
A chieftain of All Progressives Congress, APC and former Director General of Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, Dr. Dakuku Peterside, has averred that the people of Rivers State are politically sophisticated and know who to vote for during elections.

Peterside said this while was speaking at a rally in Opobo, the headquarters of Opobo/ Nkoro LGA organized by Rivers Progressives Front, RPF, a non-governmental organisation where over 500 members of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP defected to APC.

Siminalayi Fubara, the PDP governorship candidate for the 2023 election is from Opobo like Dakuku Peterside.

Peterside, who came to the rally in company of Tonye Cole, the APC 2023 governorship candidate said that contrary to the recent assertions by Governor Nyesom Wike, the people of Rivers people know their leaders who have their interests at heart, and not opportunists taking advantage of the economic situation to embarrass them.

Rivers people know who their true leaders are. Not those who presently take advantage of the harsh economic situation to hoodwink and turn them into articles of political and financial merchandise.”

Speaking further, Dakuku Peterside described the past seven years as the worst era in Rivers State because of a leadership driven by selfish interest and unbridled ego.

There is no doubt that the last seven remain the worst in Rivers’ history. The ordinary Rivers man and woman were left out of governance while those in authority enriched themselves, appropriated the people’s commonwealth and shamelessly brandished even that which they stole, before the people. Rivers people never had it this bad”, the former NIMASA DG noted.

“We are not here to campaign , when it’s time, we shall speak but this is what you must know. When I Dr Dakuku Adulphus Peterside sees a political Edi-Abali, I know, when I see a political light weight, I also know. They collected our light weights , we have collected 11 of their Political Edi-Abali’s alongside 500 of their field Marshals. Opobo and Nkoro people know their leaders. When it’s time, we shall speak in a language they shall understand.

Dakuku Peterside, who is a former member of House of Representatives, noted that the Opobo and Nkoro ethnic groups are one of the most politically enlightened stocks in Rivers State even as he averred that they could not be deceived or blackmailed with any Greek gift as Governor Wike is doing at the moment.

“Opobo and Nkoro people are one of the most politically enlightened stocks in Rivers State and no one can deceive us with a Greek gift. Gov. Wike had opportunity of developing Opobo and Nkoro in the past 7 years, but did not do it. He preferred to fret away our resources junketing abroad searching for personal relevance that will not add value to Rivers state and her people”, he said.

Dakuku Peterside stated that at the appropriate time Opobo and Nkoro people would openly prove to Wike that they well took note of his neglect of the area.

“We will remind our people how much Wike and his cohorts failed them and why we cannot continue in that trajectory”, he stressed.

Continuing, the former Federal lawmaker said that Nigerians had been unanimous in the type of leaders they would elect in 2023. “Nigerians are unanimous that the next election will be about character, competence and service delivery. It will not be about ethnicity. Opobo- Nkoro people know that a competent Governor with character they would be proud of would be superior to brandishing ethnic sentiment.”

While urging Rivers people to “keep hope alive”, Dakuku Peterside commended the NGO and others who took part in the rally.

Politics2023: Rivers PDP Sacks Senator Sekibo As Caucus Leader by kcmichael(op): 5:54am On Aug 26, 2022
Rivers State of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Thursday sacked Senator George Thompson Sekibo as leader of the party at Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area of the state over alleged self-centeredness.

Former Commissioner for Sports, Hon. Boma Iyaye has been appointed as replacement.
DAILY POST recalls Sekibo has been the leader of the PDP caucus in the local government since 2015.

Deputy leader of the caucus in the area, Rt. Hon. Evans Bapakaye Bipi disclosed this while briefing newsmen in PortHarcourt, Rivers State Capital.

Bipi added, “Senator Sekibo was running PDP in Ogu/Bolo as a personal fiefdom without caring about the interest of other members.”
Further, he said “Hon Boma Iyaye, former Commissioner for Sports in the state has since been appointed as the new leader for Ogu/Bolo PDP caucus. He is assisted by Hon Evans Bipi, the Chief Whip of the state House of Assembly.

“Sekibo was not removed from being the leader of the caucus because of a meeting with the PDP Presidential candidate for 2023, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar or with the former national chairman of the party, Prince Uche Secondus. He was removed on grounds of sheer self-centeredness.

“Senator Sekibo was a selfish leader. Imagine a man who craved to become the next Governor of Rivers state after His Excellency, Nyesom Wike. But that same person will not allow me, for instance, to go back to the House of Assembly or the House of Representatives. Is that not selfishness”?

PoliticsAPC Vs PDP: Why Rivers People Will Vote Whoever I Ask Them To Vote – Gov Wike by kcmichael(op): 6:07am On Aug 10, 2022
Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has boasted that the people of his state will always listen to him when he asks them to vote in a particular direction.

Naija News reports that the governor stated this during Tuesday’s commissioning of dualised Ogbunuabali – Eastern Bypass Road project in Port Harcourt.

According to the governor, misguided Rivers politicians are twisting his assertion on Monday that the state was entirely under his grips.

Wike explained, “Because some people went to school late, they don’t understand when somebody says I am in charge of this State.

“I never said I am in charge of votes in this State, but I know I can talk to my people, and my people will listen to me. Some people say I have only one vote, I agree. I can’t vote two times. I will only vote once. But because of the services I have rendered to the people of this State, the State will listen to me.”

He also stated that his widely acknowledged outstanding stewardship in office reflects his capacity and passion for delivering enduring development to Rivers State people.

Wike stated that his capacity to deliver has nothing to do with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“Take me away today from PDP to another party, and I will still perform. So, it is not because I’m in PDP that I’m performing,” the governor bragged.

He said, “Leadership is not about party. Leadership is about individuals. Party is only a vehicle to actualise your ambition, to be able to tell your people I have this capacity, I have this quality to render services to you.

“It is because I have that passion for my people, have the commitment to serve my people. Take me to YPP. Allow me become whatever I will become there. I will perform. Take me to any party. I will perform. So, it is not party that makes you to perform.”

Naija News understands that reports had emerged alleging that Governor Wike will back the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, against his party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

Politics2023: PDP Can Win Without Wike, Atiku Tells Party’s Bot by kcmichael(op): 6:16am On Aug 05, 2022
The dust over the presidential primary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the choice of Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as running mate by its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has not settled.

Although Atiku and Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike met yesterday in Abuja at the instance of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT), led by Senator Walid Jibrin, a source said it did not lead to a truce.

The meeting was hosted by former Information and Culture Minister Prof. Jerry Gana at his residence.

At a meeting with BoT members on Wednesday, Atiku boasted that PDP can win next year’s election without many votes from Rivers State.

He said there was no cause for alarm if Wike did not want to fall in line with him.

Exuding confidence, Atiku recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari, who did not win Rivers State, relied on votes from Lagos, Kano and other strategic states to win the 2019 presidential poll.

He also said PDP ran into crisis because Wike allegedly monetised the presidential primary.

Wike, who was privy to what transpired at the BOT meeting, was said to have complained about Atiku’s recent comment about him.

A source said: “Wike joined issues with Atiku over his recent comments or pronouncements at the second meeting.

“He asked Atiku some questions:

”Did I tell you I want to be the next Minister of Petroleum Resources?
”Have I not been a minister before?
”Do you control Lagos and Kano, like President Muhammadu Buhari, if you don’t need Rivers?
”Have I asked for anything to support you?”
Atiku responded with “no” to most of the questions.

“Throughout the meeting, Wike was busy with posers to clear some impressions from Atiku’s camp in public space. Obviously, he was uncomfortable with some comments attributed to Atiku and some of his strategists.

“But the presidential candidate of the PDP was calm in managing the situation.”

Sources said Atiku and Wike had been engaged in a hide and seek game over a session with the BoT.

However, BoT members have consistently pleaded with Atiku to reconcile with the Rivers governor.

Although the two leaders got invitation letters from the board, none of them was interested in a face-to-face meeting before yesterday.

Atiku and Wike had resorted to bitter verbal exchanges and name-calling in the media in the past few weeks.

Their loyalists had also picked the gauntlet, with the two camps launching media attacks against each other, leading to a gradual alienation of Wike and his loyalists by the PDP leadership.

The BoT had waded in on Wednesday, with the setting up of a reconciliation committee headed by Senator Jibrin.

It was also gathered that party stakeholders will empanel another committee comprising nominees from the Atiku and Wike camps to resolve the differences.

It was also learnt that whatever the committee agreed upon would be tabled before a larger meeting of stakeholders for approval and ratification.

“One takeaway from the meeting is that supporters of Atiku and Wike must stop the media war with immediate effect,” a party source said.

Worried by the protracted rift, BoT members had on Wednesday met with Atiku in Abuja behind closed doors.

A member of the BoT said: “When the two leaders did not honour our invitation, we decided to meet with Atiku on Wednesday. We will still have an audience with Governor Wike. Our main interest is to keep the party united before we start the campaign.

“Atiku took time to explain to us how he is ready to work with all party leaders and governors to enable PDP to regain power in 2023.

“He said since 1993, he has desired to contest and win the nation’s presidency without bitterness. He then asked: “‘How can a first-time presidential aspirant be so bitter for losing the primary? What of President Muhammadu Buhari who contested four times for the office?’

“Atiku also revisited the primary and how it was heavily monetised by Wike, but he said he still won.

“He urged the BoT members to prevail on Wike to work with him and others for the success of the party.

“He said otherwise, he will go ahead with the campaign without Wike and his team.

“He also said there are other PDP leaders from Rivers State who have bought into his candidacy, including Abiye Sekibo, ex-Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Austin Opara, Sen. Lee Maeba and others.”

The source quoted Atiku as telling the BoT members that “if Wike does not want to fall in line, we will go ahead with our campaign. One man alone does not make a state. Some PDP elders in the state are solidly with us.”

He added: “After all, President Buhari won the presidential election without many votes from Rivers State. He lost Rivers and still became the nation’s President after winning in Lagos, Kano and other strategic states.”

The BOT members, however, pleaded with Atiku to “allow more interventions to have a united campaign structure for the party’s victory.”

But Wike flew into Abuja yesterday afternoon to hold a session with his strategists before storming Gana’s residence.

But a source close to Wike’s camp said it was wrong to have accused Wike of monetising the presidential primary of the party.

He added: “We got to know all that transpired between Atiku and the BoT members. Wike did not monetise the PDP primary. Maybe, the Atiku group did. We don’t know what he is saying.”

The source said Wike rallied his friends, supporters and associates to boost the campaign of the PDP’s candidate with a huge amount in 2019.

“Wike has been a party man and he has never wavered in his commitment to his party’s return to power in 2023.

“If he did it for Atiku in 2019, he will do the same this time around.”

Former representative of Rivers South East at the National Assembly, Senator Magnus Abe has finally confirmed his defection to the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

According to a statement by his spokesman, Party Benson, the former members of the All Progressives Congress(APC) confirmed the news on his social media handle.

Abe reiterated his commitment to staying glue to the cause he so much believed in, promoting internal democracy for growth of the polity of the nation.

Abe, who dumped the APC last week, noted that he was in search of a political platform to fulfill his ambition of succeeding Governor Nyesom Wike in 2023.

He said: “Yes I am and I have been a member of the social Democratic Party SDP.
“I remain irrevocably committed to the ideals that have driven my politics through the years. And will continue to do all we can to improve internal democracy in the politics of our country and focus on the people”.

However, one of the APC candidates and a Lawyer, Ezekiel-Amadi Ezemonye, appearing for himself and the 12 defendants announced that he had filed a petition at the Federal High Court Administrative Judge against the presiding Judge, Justice Stephen Daylop-Pam.

Amadi Ezemonye who is the APC Candidate for Ikwerre-Emohua Federal Constituency, Ezekiel expressed fear that members of his party may not get justice from the Judge over what he alleged to be the Judge’s antecedents.
