He was the chairman of Magnus Abe’s faction of the APC in the state. /A former factional chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Rivers State , Golden Chioma, who dumped the party on Tuesday, has joined the Social Democratic Party (SDP). Mr Chioma, who cited “poor reward system” as reason for leaving the APC, disclosed his next political destination for the first time in an exclusive interview with PREMIUM TIMES Sunday evening. He was the chairman of Magnus Abe’s faction of the APC in the state. He, however, declined comments on whether Mr Abe, a governorship aspirant of the party, would join him in SDP where he can contest the 2023 governorship election. Beside Mr Chioma, a former acting managing director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, Ibim Semenitari , has also announced her resignation from the APC. Mrs Semenitari, who served as Commissioner for Information and Communication under the former governor of the state, Rotimi Amaechi, made public her resignation on Sunday. In her resignation letter dated July 9 and addressed to Ward 5 chairman of the party in Okrika Local Government Area, she appreciated the party for the opportunities it provided her to serve and wished the party well. APC’s reaction Chris Finebone, the spokesperson of APC in Rivers State, dismissed Mr Chioma’s claim that he dumped the party due to “poor reward system”. Mr Finebone, who blamed Messrs Chioma and Abe for the exclusion of the party in the ballot in 2019, said Mr Chioma left the party because of his agreement with Mr Abe to move to SDP so that Mr Abe can contest the governorship election there. On the resignation of Mrs Semenitari from the party, Mr Finebone said the former NDDC managing director said she “wants to rest”. He said Mrs Semenitari has not joined any other political party. Mrs Semenitari, a former ally of Mr Amaechi, worked for Vice President Yemi Osinbajo during the APC presidential primary. The APC in Rivers State has been torn into two factions as a result of the battle for the control of party structure in the state between Mr Abe and the former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi. The party was barred from filing candidates for the 2019 general elections in the state as the result of the crisis. However, in 2022, Mr Amaechi’s faction outmaneuvered Mr Abe to take over the structure of the party in the state. Mr Abe was pushed out from the APC power structure in Rivers after Tonye Cole emerged the governorship candidate of the party in the state during the May 26 primary. Mr Abe’s supporters reportedly boycotted the primary. |
Senator Magnus Abe speaks during an interview on Channels Television’s Political Paradigm on July 12, 2022. The chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Magnus Abe, on Tuesday said he will not support the party’s governorship candidate in Rivers State, Tonye Cole. Abe, a former lawmaker that represented Rivers South-East Senatorial District in the National Assembly, is nursing the ambition of succeeding outgoing Governor Nyesom Wike under the APC. “No I will not support Tonye Cole, I think that is clear to everybody,” Abe said during an interview on Channels Television’s Political Paradigm. On his decision not to back Cole, he accused the Rivers APC candidate of not paying his dues as far as the oil-rich state is concerned. Noting that Cole has no record of service in Rivers, the ex-lawmaker said there are corruption allegations against him. Abe vowed that he can’t work for the victory of the party’s gubernatorial flagbearer in the 2023 general elections. “I am not part of how he became a candidate, he has not been part of our party to my knowledge, and he didn’t contribute anything to the establishment of the party. He has no record of service to our state. “There is an allegation that over $55 million of Rivers State Government money was transferred to him by Rotimi Amaechi in a government in which I served and I didn’t even know about it. So how will I now go and support such a person to now take over the Government of Rivers State?” he added. Though Abe lost to Cole in the Rivers APC governorship primary on May 26, he is however confident of his name appearing on the ballot in next year’s governorship election. This is even as he insisted that he will not pitch his tent with another political party in his bid to become governor of rivers state

Akpobari :Rights Activist dumps APC,partisan politics Okafor Ofiebor/Port Harcourt An Ogoni Environmental rights activist and chieftain of Rivers chapter of All Progressives Congress APC, Celestine AkpoBari, has left politics and resigned from the party. In a terse statement he issued in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, Akpobari debunked reports that his decision to leave politics was because of current upheavals in APC. Rather, he stated that his latest decision was to enable him focus on his primary occupation, which is to fight for human and environmental rights, and academics. “I had contemplated for sometimes, to leave politics and face squarely my human rights activism, and also push forward my academics. Continuing to combine them with politics was doing serious injury to my passion for people’s rights and the wellbeing of our environment,” he said in a statement signed on his behalf by Beke Anyalemechi. Akpbari said his hunger to further his studies in pursue his chosen field suffered intolerable hiccups that he could no longer accept with his involvement in politics. He said his decision to act now should therefore not be interpreted in partisan prism. “My commitment to human and environmental rights, and my education remain the core driving force in reaching this decision. So, it has nothing to do with APC or any other party. And it takes immediate effect.” Comrade AkpoBari, said he has communicated his decision to the leadership of APC, wished them well, saying that though it was a “hard decision to reach”, he averred that it was the best thing to do at this time.” https://pmnewsnigeria.com/2022/07/06/rivers-apc-chieftain-akpobari-quits-party-politics/

The South-South zonal organising secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Dr. Blessing Agbomhere, has demanded for the resignation or outright sack of the Akwa Ibom State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr. Mike Igini, over the role allegedly played in the controversy rocking Governorship and Senatorial primary elections in the state. he APC Zonal Secretary was reacting to earlier comments made by the Akwa Ibom State Resident Electoral Commissioner regarding the state Governorship and Senatorial candidates. A statement Agbomhere released to newsmen Tuesday in Abuja, said it was not in the place of Igini to dispute the primary election that produced the candidates forwarded by the party but the members of APC. “My attention has been drawn to the vituperation and grandstanding by the Akwa Ibom State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr. Mike Igini, regarding the Governorship and Senatorial primary elections for the Akwa Ibom state. “As far as the APC primary elections in Akwa Ibom State are concerned, the role played by Mike Igini so far is biased, partial and reasonably shows the act of a man who is indebted, compromised, and running higgledy-piggledy to appeal to his pay-master. “The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), by virtue of its statutory obligation to Nigerians, ought to be a neutral umpire in the electoral process. Parties who participate in primary elections and who are members of a political party are in the best position to disagree over the outcome of an election, not INEC. It is not in the place of Igini to dispute the primary election, except he is a member of the APC and a contestant in the said primary election. “Let me further emphasise that it is the duty of the political party to send names of their candidates to INEC and not Igini. If Igini has personal issues with Senator Godswill Akpabio, he should avail himself of a different forum to sort the issues out with him, as we will not allow him to stand as an impediment to the imminent victory of APC in Akwa Ibom and the South-South of Nigeria. And having done what he has done, Igini is no longer fit to be INEC Resident Commissioner in Akwa Ibom State. “I, therefore, call on Igini to, without further delay, resign his position as Resident Electoral Commissioner in Akwa Ibom State. In the event that Igini refuses to resign, I call on the INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, to sack Igini without hesitation in order to ensure that the political atmosphere in Akwa Ibom State does not degenerate into anarchy and the reputation of INEC is not reduced to that of a mad man, who has no shame or nothing to protect For a better society https://championnews.com.ng/resign-now-apc-chieftain-agbomhere-tells-igini/

The Rivers State Government has filed a suit against Rotimi Amaechi, a former governor of the state, over alleged fraud. Others listed as co-defendants in the suit marked PHC/1818/CR/2022 filed on June 7 are the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the state, Tonye Cole; Dr. Chamberlain Peterside; Sir Augustine Wokocha; Sahara Energy Resources Limited; NG Power-HpS Limited and Cenpropsaroten Management Limited. Governor Nyesom Wike had in 2015 set up a seven-man panel to probe Amaechi over an alleged withdrawal of N96 billion from the state’s treasury during the latter’s tenure as governor. The panel, headed by Justice George Omekeji, had also investigated issues surrounding the “sale of assets” by the former governor. The listed valuable assets are Omoku Gas Turbine, Afam Gas Turbine, Trans Amadi Gas Turbine, Eleme Gas Turbine, Olympia Hotel, and the contract award for the execution of Mono Rail Project. The panel submitted its report in 2015, but Amaechi has insisted that he is not guilty of fraud. However, on May 27, 2022, the Supreme Court dismissed an application by Amaechi, challenging the probe. Weeks after the judgment, Wike directed the state Attorney-General, Zaccheus Adangor, to file criminal charges against the former governor, as well as Sahara Energy, a firm indicted in the deals, The Nigeria Law reports. The firm is co-founded by Tonye Cole, a businessman and governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers state. “Sometime between 2011 and 2012 at Port Harcourt within the Port Harcourt Division of the High Court of Rivers State did conspire among yourselves to commit felony to steal the sum of $274,563,599.59,” count one of the charges read. In count two, the state alleged that Amaechi and his co-defendants within the same period “stole the same amount of money being proceeds from the sale of 70 per cent equity belonging to her in the power generation assets at Omoku, Trans-Amadi, Eleme and Afam Gas turbines.” The state further in count five alleged that Amaechi, Sahara Energy, Cenpropsaroten Hotel Management Limited and Cole within the same period “did conspire by fraudulent means to affect the market price of Olympia Hotel Port Harcourt by offering the said Olympia Hotel Port Harcourt for concession exclusively to Sahara Energy Resources Limited and Cenpropsaroten Hotel Management Limited (a subsidiary of Sahara Energy) and Cole (Director) instead of by means of open competitive bidding prescribed under section 60 (1) of Rivers State Public Private Participation in Infrastructure Development Law, number 5 of 2009”. In count six, the government claimed that Amaechi, Sahara Energy, Cenpropsaroten and Cole conspired among themselves to commit a felony by stealing $ 1 million being the concession fee the defending companies paid to the Rivers State Government for the concession of the Olympia Hotel for a period of 40 years. The state in count eight alleged that Amaechi and Sahara Energy about December 1, 2014 conspired among themselves to commit felony by stealing the sum of $53,095,602.05 from Rivers Government dollar account number 0064809429 with Access Bank, Bank Road Branch, Port Harcourt. The offences were said to be contrary to Sections 421, 422, 516A, and 383 of the Criminal Code Law, Laws of Rivers State of Nigeria 1999 http://saharareporters.com/2022/06/20/alleged-n96bn-fraud-rivers-government-files-charges-against-amaechi-ruling-apc
