A shocking case of child abuse has emerged from Owerri, Imo State, where a 35-year-old businesswoman, Edith Nwachukwu, was arrested for savagely battering her 13-year-old househelp, Kelechi Ejieke. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

The incident occurred on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at the popular Relief Market in Owerri, where police operatives from the Owerri Urban Divisional Headquarters rescued the severely injured minor after concerned traders raised the alarm.

According to reports, Edith accused the young girl of stealing her money and unleashed brutal physical violence on her. Witnesses claimed she was on the verge of buying additional canes to continue the assault when traders intervened.

Chidiebube Okeoma, a renowned journalist and founder of the Stand for Humanity Foundation, was instrumental in alerting the authorities. “When I got the information, I immediately contacted the DPO. Thanks to the brave traders who rescued the minor and brought in the police,” Okeoma shared.

The victim, a native of Amaeke Adam in Abia State, was rushed to a hospital for treatment due to the severity of her injuries. At the police station, Edith admitted to battering the girl out of anger, claiming the child had stolen her money—an accusation the victim denied.

Okeoma expressed his outrage, stating, “This incident highlights the urgent need to protect vulnerable children. Our foundation is committed to ensuring justice is served, and we will not relent until such acts are eradicated.”

The Imo State Police Command spokesperson, SP Henry Okoye, confirmed the arrest and stated that the Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, has zero tolerance for child abuse. Investigations into the case are ongoing, and the command has vowed to ensure justice is served.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a Federal Polytechnic in Gwarinpa, one of the largest estates in the nation’s capital.

Our correspondent reports that the new institution is also named after the President.

In a letter dated January 16, 2025 and addressed to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, said the federal government had approved the establishment of Bola Ahmed Tinubu Polytechnic, Gwarinpa to promote technological, vocational and entrepreneurial training in line with the national policy on education.

The education minister, in the letter he personally signed, requested Wike to suggest the proposed locations for the temporary and permanent sites in Gwarinpa for the takeoff of the institution.

The minister said the technical team from the Federal Ministry of Education and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) would be visiting the sites and inspect the recommended locations, adding that base on the reports to be presented by the team, the approval will be given.

Meanwhile, the chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, has commended Tinubu for approving the establishment of a Federal Polytechnic in Gwarinpa, a popular estate under the council.

In a statement by his Special Assistant on Media and Public Affairs, Kingsley Madaki, Maikalangu also appreciated the FCT Minister for the role he played in making the dreams of FCT residents a reality.

Maikalangu said the establishment of the Federal Polytechnic in Gwarinpa was a dream come true and would add to the progress of the FCT residents.

He recalled that, for the first time in history, an FCT native, Zaphaniah Bitrus Jisalo, who served as a two-term member representing AMAC/Bwari Constituency in the House of Representatives, was appointed as minister.

Pastor Idowu Iluyomade, the suspended pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, City of David Parish, has launched a new ministry in Lagos called The Family Fellowship.

Many criticised the timing of the celebration, which took place just weeks after Wigwe’s passing in a helicopter crash in the United States, viewing it as insensitive.


Wigwe had been a significant supporter of the church before his untimely death.

Following the backlash, the RCCG Governing Council convened a panel to investigate the matter.

In June 2024, Iluyomade and his wife were suspended for three months and reassigned to worship at the church’s headquarters in Ebute Metta.

The couple’s suspension drew further attention after they were disinvited from the Wigwe family’s funeral.

Now, the Iluyomades have established their own ministry to continue their spiritual mission.
