chosen6: Mr Women, if not that you are grossly unwise, you would have known that that was exactly the same way and manner that Nelson Mandela spent 27 years in Prison for his "violent agitations" but would ended up as a peace ambassador. Mostly because the violent accusations against him holds no water in the long run.
It is always in the DNA of violent people/party to accuse others of violence. Imagine an APC government accusing someone of violence?
Same APC that we are all aware of how they imported and unleashed violent and killer herdsmen on the masses since 2015 that they took over the rein of the Islamic Zoo Republic of Nigeria?
The moment you started your comment by comparing kanu a terrorist with Mandela I know I have a nut case here. Sorry I don't engage characters like you. Thanks
SammywritesNG: I wouldn't encourage you to digest hook, line and sinker what people say on line about the civil war. Because for ages it is known that those who still run the government prospered a propaganda to shot every young off from knowing the truth. Which is why History was banned our schools.
I encourage you to read all the recommended books from different witnessing parties goto youtube and search for edmundobilo, he has a several eye witness series of interviews on the civil War topic. Alot of credible guests
Bro don't just sit with what suits your emotion. Be open minded. Ojukwu stopped Isaac boro from self determination, Azikiwe stopped the whole Nigeria from the option if self determination. These are factors in the war and are historical facts. Read dispassionately sir☹️
dettolgel: 1. You said the Yoruba only joined the war because Biafra side was trying to over the Western part of the country? Did Nigeria operate a regional army right before the war? If not how come you said the Yoruba only joined the war because the Biafra side invaded Ore?
2. Can you be kind enough to lists the name of the military officers that carried out the coup ?
To answer your first question, Yoruba as a people had chosen to be neutral in the fight because the government that was toppled was led by the hausas not Yoruba. It was Hausa led military against Biafra boys. That federal military consist of all tribes including ibos. Those actively involved in the war as a people were the Hausa/Fulani whose leaders were mocked by ibo after the first coup by predominantly ibo guys.
Your second question. Ibos were the mastermind of the coup, all others were brought in for convenience. Even nzeogu was drafted in at the last minute by ifeajuna and anuforo. Below is the list of the plotters mostly of ibo origin.

How was Nnamdi KANU and Simon Ekpa agitation violent?
Was it NOT the Zoo Federal Govt of Nigeria that took violence to the house of Nnamdi KANU and in the process murdered scores and turn around to accuse him of violence? If he was violent how come the Zoo are powerless in even in their court against him? If he was violent how come he has a N6billion unappealed judgement against the Zoo govt even in her court? If IPOB is violent as the Zoo would want the people to believe, how come the govt has failed to convict even a single member of the group inspite of the fact that over 20,000 Biafran agaitators has been charged to court?
Guess? Almost all of the charges against them end up in NO CASE SUBMISSION. Of course, you know why.
About Simon Ekpa, he is even the good guy, the peace ambassador. Who even a foreign country needs 6 months to see if they can manage to see any charge that can stick against him. What does not tell you? That there is no known offence against him.
Mr man rest, Kanu is still in prison because of his violent agitation he never commot now. 😁
ThatWriterBoy: Hello. I recently read Chigozie Obioma's The Road To The Country which is a fictional story set during the Biafran War, and I've been hooked.
I'm a young guy, born many years after the war, and I don't know much about it. I didn't do history in secondary school, and the only mention of the war was that Ojukwu wanted to separate Nigeria, but Gowon wanted Nigeria to remain one.
Could you please recommend books for me to read to understand more about this war? I have read a lot of history books sha but it's surprising I haven't read anything about my country's civil War.
If you know Dictatorland by Paul Kenyon. Or The Lumumba Plot by Stuart Reid. Or Dancing In The Glory Of Monsters by Jason someguy (I can't remember his surname). Or We Wish To Inform You That Tomorrow We Will Be Killed With Our Families (I've forgotten the author of this one but it was about the Rwandan Genocide), that's the style of history storytelling I like to read. If you can recommend books with similar styles, I'd appreciate you. Thank you.
Allow me to give you a brief summary of the Biafra war. The Biafra war was a direct result of the first military coup of January 15, 1966 against the then civilian government. The civilian government was headed by a northerner tafawa balewa, with namdi azikiwe as executive president, Samuel akintola was premier (governor) southwestern region, ahmadu bello was premier northern region, michael okpara eastern region while dennis osadebay was premier Mid-Western region. The coup which was masterminded by ibo boys in army killed only northern and south west leaders sparing all ibo leaders including bamdi azikwe and micheal okpara among many major political figures of the time.
The Hausa boys in the army were enraged when ibos began to strategically manipulate the Nigeria system in order to dominate all other tribes. Then the Hausa Fulani group in the army carried out counter coup to remove the ibo man that was made the head of state after failure to address the issues raised by the northerners about the couo and the couo plotters more especially when ibos began to celebrate the death of tafawa balewa and ahmadu bello mocking their death with caricature of a goat among other diss.
Because the counter coup of July 1966 had many ibos slaughtered including the then military head of state aguyi ironsi, odimegwu ojukwu went to war to pull eastern Nigeria out of the Nigeria merger, since tge condition for peace demanded by him was not met by the government of yakubu Gowon which was installed by the aggrieved northern army boys behind the second coup.
This is the summary of how the Biafra war started. It however ended badly for the ojukwu Biafran side when they began advancing and Overunning Yoruba land of ore and moving towards Lagos because Yorubas that had chosen to be neutral were forced into the fight between hausa/Fulani army boys and ibos army boys with the threat on Yoruba land. Awolowo joined the yakubu Gowon federal government to clip the wing of the ibo guys. End of war!
Gistmedia10: In a shocking viral video circulating on social media, an angry Nigerian man was seen pulling out an AK-47 rifle during a heated argument at a filling station in Nigeria. The altercation reportedly started over a minor disagreement between two motorists, who were vying for the privilege of being served first at the pump. The argument quickly escalated when one of the men stormed to his vehicle, retrieved an AK-47 rifle, and began threatening to shoot the other individual.
Though the exact words exchanged in the argument remain unclear, the man’s violent reaction has raised serious concerns. The presence of a deadly weapon at a public filling station has sparked fears over safety and public order, prompting calls for an immediate investigation.
ch214: That's not accurate. Sunday Igboho has been involved in activities that can be considered secessionist, and he has been declared wanted by the Nigerian authorities.
In July 2021, the Department of State Services (DSS) raided his residence and arrested several of his associates. Igboho himself went into hiding and later fled to Benin Republic, where he was arrested and detained for several months.
While Igboho's actions and rhetoric may differ from those of Nnamdi Kanu and Simon Ekpa, the fact remains that he has been involved in secessionist activities and has been held accountable by the law.
Let's rely on verifiable facts and avoid spreading misinformation.
It's within any citizens right to demand secession so long as it's non violent. KANU and ekpa's crime was the violence they added to theirs. As you can see yoruba land remain peaceful despite desire for self rule.
alfarouq: The individual who ran into crowd with a car at Christmas market in Magdeburg, Germany has been allegedly identified as Talib Al-Abdulmohsen, an atheist & Ex-Muslim, Saudi-born psychiatrist and activist, he lived in Germany since 2006. He is extremely Anti-Islam.
MadPolitician: This is why I still have a good level of respect for the Yorubas. For people like Gani Fawhenmi, for people like Fela Anikolapo Kuti, for people like Dele Farotimi, and most importantly, for people like the crowd you see here singing and giving him the much needed moral support. They represent a healthy part of the Yoruba ethnic group that the likes of Tinubu, Fani Kayode and Bayo Onanuga will always try to suffocate and maling. Dele is our man and will triumph. I hope he becomes the governor of Lagos state someday to open the nyansh of the clan of agbadorian reprobates that have been sucking the finances of that state dry for ages..
Long Live Dele
Dele os not a proper Yoruba. He is disgrace to Yoruba race. Deal with that.
yewit37486: Don't bring your tribal sickness to a football post. This is not the politics section where you all swim in toxicity day in day out, so limit it there.

Editorialtimes: The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has cautioned the Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala AbdulKadir Muhammad, against establishing a Christian chiefdom, known as Sayawa Chiefdom, with its proposed headquarters in Tafawa Balewa Township.
In a statement released early Thursday, MURIC’s Executive Director, Prof. Ishaq Akintola, described the move as an act of injustice against the Muslim community in Tafawa Balewa, who he said have been victims of significant religious violence in the area.
Akintola criticized the governor's declaration, stating that it lacked inclusivity and failed to consider the concerns of the Muslim population.
“Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala AbdulKadir Muhammad, recently declared his intention to create the Sayawa Chiefdom with its headquarters in Tafawa Balewa Township,” Akintola said.
“MURIC frowns upon this declaration as it implies that the governor has disregarded the advice of the Muslim community on this issue. Good governance requires extensive consultation before making such a critical decision. This declaration is provocative, parochial, and prebendal. It suffers from a desertification of inclusivity,” he added.
MURIC called on Governor Muhammad to reconsider his decision and ensure that the interests of all religious groups in Bauchi State are fairly represented and respected.
