HealthRe: Is Milk Bad For Your Health? by kebab(f): 6:52pm On Mar 28, 2007
na wa ooo. its really amazing the kind of things ppl spread about food.

milk is an animal source of protein which contains many other nutrients, vitamins and minerals which are essential for maintenance of body function and systems, repair of worn out tissues.

there are six main groups of food that should be consumed on a daily basis but in varying quantities.

these include milk, starch, vegetable, protein, fats n oil, and water group.

Milk/yoghurt group should form part of the daily diet and should not be excluded for any reas

there r different types of milk: low fat, skimmed milk, evaporated, condensed, etc.
these milk types yield different amount of calories per ml, depending on the fat content.
for instance, whole milk may provide 351 kcal of energy while low fat may provide 250 kcal.

so for someone who is overweight or obese, it is important to take the low fat milk type instead of the other types.

also moderate the amount taken: dont take a whole tin of milk, or scoop too many tablespoons of the powdered type.
HealthRe: Is Banana Fattening? by kebab(f): 10:38am On Mar 27, 2007
That is why nutritionist always advise people not to eat late because we are often inactive at that time and more of the food being eaten are being converted to the storage in adipose or fatty tissue.

To prevent weight gain, the key is not to avoid a particular type of food but to moderate your intake. if you have been eaten a whole bunch of bananas, take only one or two at most, diversify your daily diet to include all the food groups ( milk/yoghurt/dairy group, starch group, meat/ fish/egg group, fruits group, fat group, and water). and most importantly do 30 minutes of exercise daily.
HealthRe: Is Banana Fattening? by kebab(f): 10:29am On Mar 27, 2007
The same process occurs in the fed and resting state. However, more of the intake tends to be converted to the storage form, that is the triglycerides or fat, which then contributes to weight gain.
HealthRe: Is Banana Fattening? by kebab(f): 10:22am On Mar 27, 2007
Well, any food eaten in excess of body requirements for that nutrient can be fattening. Banana is a fruit but it also contains carbohydrates. The metabolism of food determines what can become fattening and it goes thus:

Carbohydarates are broken down by the digestive system to glycogen, which is needed for brain functioning. for fuel for maintenance of body function or for storage. In the active state, this glycogen is immediately utilized for fuel or energy and also for brain functioning. Some of it is stored in the liver and muscle tisssue as storage. Now the body needs only a certain amount of carbohydrate daily so it will make use of this amount for these needs. The body does not excrete excess carbohydrates and so the remainder is converted to triglycerides, which are then stored in adipose tissue, around the stomach, buttocks, arms, etc.

HealthRe: Egg Donors In Nigeria? by kebab(op): 12:00pm On Mar 06, 2007
Is there any compensation for donating eggs?

There is financial compensation for committing time and energy to donating eggs to help an infertile couple, and also satisfaction derived from knowing that one has been able to touch another person's life positively.
HealthRe: Egg Donors In Nigeria? by kebab(op): 11:29am On Mar 06, 2007
The motivations to become an egg donor may include:

empathy for childless couples without having to carry a pregnancy for them

HealthRe: Egg Donors In Nigeria? by kebab(op): 11:13am On Mar 06, 2007
Some of these problems can be resolved with medical treatment or lifestyle changes, such as wearing boxer shorts, avoiding a sexual lubricant, or trying some simple stress reduction methods such as physical exercise or relaxation techniques.

Changing the timing of sex and the couple's sexual techniques may also increase the chance of pregnancy. Sometimes the semen from the man fails to reach the woman's cervix. Placing a pillow under the woman's hips after intercourse may help prevent spillage of semen.

However, these approaches may not work for some couples and they may need to go through assisted reproduction.

Which takes me back to my original question:

Would any female be interested in donating some of her eggs to infertile women who have problems in conceivinghuh
HealthRe: Egg Donors In Nigeria? by kebab(op): 11:04am On Mar 06, 2007
Infertility can be caused by poor sexual or lifestyle habits that are easily remedied.

For example, the couple may be using a sexual lubricant that interferes with the survival of the man's sperm. Or, they may not be having sex often enough. Other easily treated illnesses or lifestyle habits that may contribute to infertility are:

Heavy use of alcohol, tobacco or drugs.

Starvation diets or anorexia in the woman.

Tight underwear or pants in the man, which raises the crotch temperature and reduces sperm count.

Stress. In a woman, this may cause her periods to be irregular. In a man, stress may reduce his sperm count.
HealthRe: Egg Donors In Nigeria? by kebab(op): 11:03am On Mar 06, 2007
Most infertility results from physical problems in a man or woman's reproductive system.

About 35 percent of all cases of infertility arise from problems in the man's system.

About 35 percent arise from abnormalities in the woman's system.

About 20 percent of the time, the man and woman both have fertility problems.

In 10 percent of cases, no cause can be found.

Age often increases the risk of infertility.
HealthRe: Egg Donors In Nigeria? by kebab(op): 10:26am On Mar 06, 2007
The basic definition of infertility is: the inability of a couple to conceive after one year of intercourse without the use of contraceptives.
HealthRe: Egg Donors In Nigeria? by kebab(op): 10:24am On Mar 06, 2007
Now, whether it is a question of female or male factor infertility (cus it so happens that its not every time that the cause of infertility is due to a defect or abnormality in the female!), assisted reproduction can help couples to expe rience parenthood without necessarily leading to break up of the marriage.
HealthRe: Egg Donors In Nigeria? by kebab(op): 10:20am On Mar 06, 2007
for the benefit of those who dont know:

Assisted reproduction refers to a number of advanced techniques that aid fertilization. These techniques are often used for women who have irreversible damage to their fallopian tubes or cervical mucous problems. It can also benefit couples with unexplained infertility. Some of these techniques include In Vitro fertilization (IVF), Intracytoplasmic Sperm Insertion (ICSI), Zygote Intrafallopian Transfer (ZIFT), Gamete Intrafallopian Tube Transfer (GIFT), etc.

CareerRe: Can You Succeed Without A Job? by kebab(f): 10:56pm On Feb 26, 2007
well, u gotta believe in yourself, instead of thinking up excuses and reasons why u should not be self employed. i'm sure if you have read the success stories of Jimoh ibrahim n co, u'll discover that they rose from the days of little beginnings. They did not become what they are over night, It is called hard work, determination and commitment, and maybe a little luck! but who says one cant be lucky too? Its time for youths to rule their world and take their place in the economic terrain.

CareerRe: Self-employment Tips by kebab(f): 3:37pm On Feb 13, 2007
Seun, i totally agree with you. Starting out on your own can be a bit daunting and if you are not really determined, you can be easily discouraged. Nigerians believe too much in white collar jobs and being employed. It would be really nice if young people can set out to be enterpreneurs and innovators. Alll it takes is finding a need and providing solutions. and like u said, rich people are d people to target. I delivered a service for d CEO of a company and got paid 26k for d job. Meanwhile, for the same service, a banker was only willing to pay 5k. So, its all about targetting and also quality of service. I also got a job offer with starting salary of 25k. In comparism, it makes more sense to put more effort into the business rather than work my ass off for twenty days in a week for an employer. Though, I have been battling with feelings of self doubt but now, I am in the process of revamping.
RomanceRe: Your Lover Slaps You During an Argument by kebab(f): 10:30pm On Feb 10, 2007
hmmm,

anger management is very important in a relationship.

i wonder what d magnitude of d offence could be to warrant a slap!

it is definately not a good sign, weda na d guy slap d babe or vice versa!

it would be wise to just leave the scene, returning d slap could be disastrous.

but i dont know how wise it would be to decide to quit d relationship or not

cus ppl make mistakes

d question is, would dat mistake repeat itself againhuh

if it does repeat itself, then forget about it ooo

for real,
i know ppl with experiences like dat

n wit d first slap comes many others

i definately would not want to be a punching bag or a landing board for any body

no matter how crazy in love i am or how long we've been together

in both cases, respect matters a great deal!!!

ps run with ur two legs. my friend had an experience with them. she applied for a vacancy:nutrition delegate. they sent her an email almost immediately and asked her to come for interview wit a non refundable fee of 1kmy friend lives in ibadan and had to come all d way to lagos. on getting there, it was a free for all kind of test, ssce, ond, hnd, bsc. they gave them question papers according to their discipline and qualification. she studied human nutrition but they couldnt find any questions for nutrition so they asked her to do d general test. she refused n didint do d test. meanwhile, she had already paid d fee. anyway, they eventually gave her a recommendation letter to a company*witout writing a test! they also told her that she hadnt missed anything as they would give d same letter to those who wrote d test. the copany turned out to be a church looking for a home economics teacher!
