PoliticsRe: Did General Gowon Do Anything That Needs Forgiving?…reno Omokri by kedeojo(m): 11:47am On Oct 26, 2024
Eniitankorede:
Did General Gowon Do Anything That Needs "Forgiving" As Peter Obi Alleged?

Yesterday, on Sunday, October 20, 2024, Peter Obi, the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, faced with a mass revolt by his IPOB base of supporters, was forced to give an explanation for his congratulations to the former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, who his base view as public enemy number one.

However, in his explanations, Peter Obi made some claims that are not historically accurate. He said that General Gowon is an enemy that needs to be forgiven. And that betrays the fact that even Peter Obi himself has bought into the propaganda about the cause and origins of the Nigerian Civil War and its aftermath.

So that Mr. Obi's lies are not taken as fact and history, public intellectuals like myself must set the record straight.

First of all, the fact that someone of Peter Obi's calibre can twist history so brazenly exposes us as people who are not aware of our history. Because we are not aware of our own history, we have distorted it, such that propaganda and pseudo-history have been orally passed down from one generation to the other, feeding unfounded bitterness that is destroying those who harbour it and having no effect on those against whom they are embittered.

That is why some people believe they were just sitting down minding their business, and Hausa people came to fight them (all Northerners are Hausa to some people) because they hate them. There was absolutely no provocation or igniting events that preceded the Nigerian Civil War. Hausa people just woke up on the wrong side of the bed and, for some strange reason, decided to pounce on the people of Eastern Nigeria.

But, of course, that is not what happened. However, because we do not write our history, and even worse, we have refused to teach it in our schools, millions of people believe this version of events. In fact, they swear by it.

We cannot keep holding grudges as if other people do not have their own grudges that they have let go for the peace and unity of this country called Nigeria.

My great uncle, Chief Festus Okotie-Eboh, was shot and killed in the street by Major Chris Anuforo on January 15, 1966. Ironically, I went to school with Anuforo’s son. Should the Itsekiris carry a grudge forever?

Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa was shot on the street like a common criminal by Major Emmanuel Ifeajuna. Ifeajuna tried to deny it, and claimed that Alhaji Balewa died from an asthma attack, until his body was taken to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital and examined by the then minister for health, Dr. Moses Majekodunmi. It was established that the body was riddled with bullets in a front page story in Daily Times, written by Segun Osoba, who later became the Governor of Ogun. He is still alive.

This was an incorruptible gentleman. He lived a very ascetic life. Materialism was FAR from him. He was an author. His book, Shaihu Umar, was the first novel written in Hausa. He surrounded himself with Southerners (in hindsight, was that a mistake?). His best friend was Matthew Mbu. Should the Tafawa-Balewa family and the people of Bauchi, where he was from, hold a grudge forever?

I could go on and on and list the people killed on January 15, 1966, and the identities of their killers, but that would just be reopening old wounds. These are historical facts, which some people deny and pretend as if the Civil War happened in a vacuum.

So, please let us stop pretending as if General Gowon is an 'evil' man that needs to be 'forgiven' for igniting a war.

The Nigerian Civil War was ignited by a series of unfortunate events that began with the cold blooded murder of 22 people from the Northern, Western, and Mid Western regions by people of Eastern region origin, which led to a counter coup by Northern Nigerian military officers on July 29, 1966, and the unfortunate pogrom of 66-67.

All of the people who committed murders on January 15, 1966 were Igbos of either Eastern Nigerian origin, or of Midwest extraction in the case of Chukwuma Nzeogwu.

Many people now spewing vitriol against General Gowon for his role in the Nigerian Civil War conveniently forget that between August 9, 1967 and September 20, 1967, Biafran forces invaded and occupied the Midwest region, and named Albert Nwazu Okonkwo, as military Governor of the Midwest. A number of non Igbo speaking Mid-Westerners lost their lives during that Biafran occupation of the Midwest, including my relatives.

After the Midwest was liberated by forces led by colonels Murtala Muhammed and Benjamin Adekunle, more Mid-Westerners, this time those linguistically linked to the Igbo (especially in the Asaba axis), were killed.

Yet, in that same Midwest, we accepted Nigerians of Southeast origin back after the war. We did not seize their properties in the abandoned property saga that occurred in the Port Harcourt area and its environs. We let bygones be bygones.

The truth of the matter is that If the January 15, 1966 coup had never happened, it is most unlikely that the Nigerian Civil War would have occurred. The perpetrators of that coup opened a Pandora’s Box that the rest of Nigeria are still suffering from today! And now, a man who was indicted for fraud by the Pandora Papers is now trying to reopen that terrifying box.

There was wild jubilation all over Nigeria after the January 15, 1966 coup, because Nigerians believed it was a patriotic and nationalistic coup. Then the names of those killed were announced over the radio, and it was discovered that only people from the North, West and Midwest were killed, but no politician from the East was killed.

That is the remote cause of the Nigerian Civil War. We will remember it. We will also teach it to our children, so that it does not reoccur.

So, to just keep nursing grudges and reopening old wounds will do no one any good. You can bully others into submission, but you cannot do it to Reno Omokri. I know history and I am a meticulous record keeper!

The coup itself was led by Majors Chukwuma Kaduna Nzeogwu and Ifeajuna. It was executed by the following persons:

1. Kaduna Nzeogwu
2. Emmanuel Ifeajuna
3. Timothy Onwuatuegwu
4. Adewale Ademoyega
5. Chris Anuforo
6. Humphrey Chukwuka
7. Donatus Okafor

Of these seven people, only one, Adewale Ademoyega, was non Igbo. The rest were all Igbo, although Major Nzeogwu was what was referred to at that time as Midwest Igbo (later colloquially referred to as Bendel Igbo and now as Delta Igbo). Major Donatus Okafor’s mother was Tiv. However, his father was Igbo.

Incidentally, some Igbos unwisely try to deny that Nzeogwu was Igbo, and call him ‘your South-South’ brother. Unknown to them, the more they do this, the more they make non Igbos feel that those specific Igbos who say they have learned very little since the civil war.

22 people were killed during the coup, including

1. Abubakar Tafawa Balewa
2. Ahmadu Bello
3. Ahmed Ben Musa
4. Hafsatu Bello
5. Ahmed Pategi
6. Samuel Ladoke Akintola
7. Festus Okotie-Eboh
8. Brig. Samuel Ademulegun
9. Brig. Zakariya Maimalari
10. Col. Ralph Shodeinde
11. Col. Kur Mohammed
12. Lt. Col. Abogo Largema
13. Lt. Col. James Pam
14. Lt. Col. Arthur Unegbe
15. Sergeant Daramola Oyegoke
16. Mrs Latifat Ademulegun
17. Zarumi Sardauna
18. PC Yohana Garkawa
19. Lance Corporal Musa Nimzo
20. PC Akpan Anduka
21. PC Hagai Lai
22. Philip Lewande

As is clear from the list above, none of them were from the then Eastern Nigeria except Unegbe, whose death was unplanned.

After the coup, Major General Johnson Aguiyi-Ironsi took over. Rightly, or wrongly, the rest of the nation felt that a coup carried out by overwhelmingly Eastern officers, and of which the victims were entirely non Easterners, and which supplanted a Northern minority leader (Tafawa-Balewa), with an Igbo leader, (Aguiyi-Ironsi) was a set up.

However, Major General Aguiyi-Ironsi’s promise to try the coup plotters placated the rest of the country. Sadly, the plotters were jailed, but were never tried. And the immediate cause of the July 29, 1966 counter coup was when rumours circulated that the coup plotters had been receiving full salaries in jail and were to be promoted.

These are facts that we all should address, rather than playing the victim and acting as if General Gowon committed a crime for which he should be forgiven. Gowon is a hero! And if we do not learn from our history, there is every possibility that another war might erupt in Nigeria.

The Biafrans inflicted a very harsh occupation on present day Rivers, Cross Rivers and Akwa-Ibom, as well as present day Delta and Edo before they were flushed out by federal forces. The Bayelsa area escaped the brunt of Biafran occupation due to the fight back from Isaac Adaka Boro. They invaded Ore and hundreds of Lukumi Yoruba soldiers and thousands of Omoluabi civilians died. There is still a Yoruba proverb about the amount of people that died in Ore. Ask a Yoruba person to tell you the meaning of ‘o le ku ija Ore'.

We have all forgiven and moved on. Yet, you want to reopen these old wounds and make them cancerous by blaming General Gowon 54 years after the war?

Reno Omokri
Absolutely right. The igbos are just crying been victim where as they should have apologized to the rest Nigeria and move on. They keep telling lies. I have read severally many times about it and Reno is very correct. You planned a coup and none of the allies from Easter region who were friends, political and military with northern, westerners and Midwest were killed. Aguyi Ironsi a easterners became the beneficiary. Make Una just they play. If you people don't desist from the victim mentality syndrome then presidency will be far to obtain.

Bigkoko:
Asiwaju laid the groundwork for economic disaster when he instigated Ameachi, fashola, akpabio akpabio, Rauf and Oshiomole to insist on sharing what GEJ & NOI saved for the raining days in ECA/SWF accounts.

Thus, Asiwaju not Buhari was rightly the destroyer of Nigeria economy! He subtly started it in 2012, developed it in 2014 & escalated it in 2015 and now putting finishing touches on it in 2024.

Asiwaju is an agent of the darkest part of the occult world. If you people like, don't remove the occult grandmaster before it's too late!

Don't forget a child of G-d told you this for free!
for example, can you compare Anambra state to Akwa ibom state under Akpabio and Obi. Can you name any landmark project of Obi. If not for Akpabio Nigeria will not have been playing football qualifying matches in Nigeria. The stadium built by him is the only CAF and FIFA approved stadium in Nigeria
PoliticsRe: ECA/SWF: How Asiwaju Allies Laid Foundation For Economic Mess! by kedeojo(m): 8:39am On Oct 26, 2024
Bigkoko:
In 2014, Nigeria was swimming in Oil Gas flow, the militias in ND were observing a peace accord, GEJ through the prudent and fiscally responsible technocrat in his economic management team were stashing huge amounts of USD in ECA/SWF accounts.

GeJ has great development plans for Niger Delta. His plans includes a connective railroad from Yenogoa, through PHC, straight up Benue, passing through many farming towns in MB, then disaster through Asiwaju struck!

The greedy, 🐸 frog eyed old man set his gaze on GeJ savings for Nigeria and this LAID THE FOUNDATION FOR ECONOMIC DISASTER which Buhari was clearly not experienced to leverage upon untill certain people in government died and Emefiele became more independent and steadied the ship. This, Asiwaju, not rightly Buhari is responsible for all the economic woes Nigeria is facing today!

Before we go into more details, let's explained how GeJ problem began. His problem started when his eyes started seeing the titties & clities of Diezani, bros forgot the strength of the woman who rode tides with him. The woman, our own Mama Peace. This woman really helped me through a Bayelsa Man. The ijaws are great people who love the Igbos genuinely. I'm a live witness. Till date, I still have access to Bayelsa State ministries.
We all know women express themselves differently. If you are not married, you won't know this.

If you don't fvck her well when she's ovulating, Omo the next na unnecessary quarrels. If you don't tend to her emotions, Omo na disrespect. If she suspect your worker is eating her carrot, Omo na unnecessary embarrassment for you ohh. The bad thing is she will never tell you that's why she's acting strange. It's left for you to trick her or force out a confession from her. You must be a strong man like me to know how to checkmate ladies. I do these for fun because I already know they're illogical like Asiwaju ronus, sometimes blinded by rage or emotions to see clearly in black or white.

The latter was what Mama Peace was going through. Aunt cutest with okpolo eyes, Diezani was chopping her carrot. Carrot she suffered to nurtured when Diezani was enjoying the bleaching Navy Admiral. The pretty Oil Minister was not there when she introduced GeJ to Spiff, them Alams...etc. Omo....the thing make mama Peace go Gaga. She started embarrassing everyone who irritates her. We all know Okrikas are really stubborn, coconut headed people, and it really shown up in her. Then she did just that to Ameachi, publicly!

Na here, Asiwaju capitalized on Mama Peace emotional tantrums, recruit the white haired cultist, yoru based GO & tea drinkers with Sango, abd the rest is history.

But what caught my attention was how far they were ready to go, just to destroy Nigeria. The following persons, actively partook in Laying foundation for the destruction we are seeing today, while some tried to save her!

Those who tried to save her:
1. Ngozi Okonjo Iweala.
2. Peter Obi.
3. THE unwilling president who couldn't do all it takes to ignore the idiots who greed blinded to the point of eating Nigeria seeds for the raining days!

Those who laid foundation for destruction of Nigeria economy:
1. Ameachi.
2. Akpabio.
3. Oshiomole.
4. Fashola.
5. Rauf Ogbeni Aregbesola.
6. Asiwaju, the architect of all that's wrong today!

More comments dropping on what each of the aforementioned did.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Excerpts culled from a post on nairaland. I found this comforting and true, which aligned with my own observation.

After Obasanjo's recent comments on the mismanagement of the ECA/SWF funds, I read with dismay, how some political alleluia boys gathered en masse to heap the depletion and perpetual hibernation of the Excess Crude Account and Sovereign Wealth Fund to Good luck Ebele Jonathan.

Thankfully, Ngozi Okonjo Iweala detailed the actions of then- Governors who consistently brayed and fought dirty, turning every NEF meetings to rowdy sessions until the funds were shared among them governors.

Here's an excerpt from Ngozi Okonjo Iweala's book, Fighting Corruption. Pay close attention to the names of the governors who fought against the savings and the political party they pitch their tent with as we speak: Akpabio, Oshiomole, Aregbesola, Fashola, and Amaechi as mentioned by Ngozi Okonjo Iweala.

It took the insistence of Namadi Sambo to stop the abuse the governor heaped on her, in their haste to get the money shared to fund 'bogus projects'.

It may be worth noting who Ngozi mentioned as a Governor who spoke in favour of leaving the funds in the ECA/SWF intact and focusing on growing it instead. That governor is Peter Obi.
Can you compare the development withness under those governors in their state that even anambra people are all over there to Anambra state under Obi. They have to share the fund cos Jonathan and his crew were squandering it. Jonathan government withness the second highest oil boom in history of Nigeria and Jonathan couldn't fix east west road. Under his tenure port Harcourt international airport was declared the worst in the world. The sharing was justified cos my governor Oshiomole utilizes his own share.

Firstly, The money was not put there by 37 people, it was money made from selling excess crude oil, that is why it called ECA(excess crude oil account), how does that translate to contributions from 36 states and the FCT...

It is not tax revenue, that's how you people lie anyhow...

Secondly if the account was illegal and the FG was drawing money out of it without the notice of the governors, was the best decision to share it ?

Couldn't they have requested to tranfer it to the foreign reserves account where they will be able to monitor it?

Must they share it for immediate eating? I'm not surprised though, most of the people who requested to share it are those in power now and we can see how the country is...

And yet you are here justifying rubbish...

Because what you are actually supporting here is since the FG was eating from the money the governors forced the FG to share the money to have their own share of the money...

Only one governor opposed it and that was Peter Obi and yet you are here trying to justify nonsense that since the FG was eating it without record then the Governors decided to share it and have their own like there was no option to transfer it to the foreign reserve, no wonder you support the nonsense the same leaders are doing in office today....
You have said it all cos Jonathan was taking from the money without the knowledge of the governors. You can't compare the development withness in the state of the governors that opposed it to Anambra under Obi.

Fashola, Ameachi, Oshiomole and Akpabio were the best governors at that era. You save and nothing on ground. Soludo has proved to be better governor than Obi. Glimpsetv:
Nigerian actor and lawyer Anayo Modestus Onyekwere, popularly known as Kanayo O. Kanayo, has expressed concerns over the heavy military and police presence in Southeast Nigeria, drawing attention to the challenges faced by travelers in the region. The Nollywood actor took to his Instagram account to share his experience, asking:

“Have you ever counted the number of Police/Army checkpoints on the Enugu/Onitsha Road? The humiliation and extortion are too much. Is the Southeast still part of the Federal Republic of Nigeria?”

In a video posted on his Instagram on October 23, 2024, the actor, while seated in a moving car, compared his journey from Ibadan to Lagos with the experience of traveling in the Southeast, where numerous checkpoints have become a source of frustration for many.

"I left Felele Olorunsogo area of Ibadan this morning at 7:15, and now, at exactly 8:15, I am in Lagos. I realized one thing—over the 80-kilometer distance, I didn’t see a single police or army checkpoint. Have you ever traveled the Onitsha-Enugu road and counted the number of police or military checkpoints?" he remarked.

Summary:

Nollywood actor and lawyer Kanayo O. Kanayo raised concerns on Instagram about the heavy military and police presence in Southeast Nigeria, especially on the Enugu-Onitsha road. He criticized the numerous checkpoints in the region, describing them as a source of frustration and extortion for travelers. Comparing it to his smooth journey from Ibadan to Lagos with no checkpoints, he questioned the treatment of the Southeast within Nigeria.

Otti lọ Mr. Alex is giving them the beats of disappointments, but they dare not complain, because he's a member of Pitobi's party of saints.
That is their ways of life. They are busy defending him cos he is their brother. So he can't generate tax outside taxing churches and mosques in Abia. He is not different from Tinubu is master. They are both tax collectors.

The woman is overrated. She was there under Jonathan. Naso so Nigeria is broke, Nigeria should prepare for recession, Nigeria can’t afford money to pay salaries we dey everly hear..

Dave Umahi is a better option, to me..
Truly she is just an over hype. If not madness on her side, she and Obasanjo cleared our debt but later support Jonathan on borrowing even when oil sold so high in international market. What is her impact to Nigeria as the DG of WTO. The AFDB president is far better than her and Nigeria has benefitted a lot from his position as the president of Africa bank. As minister of finance, he could not detect ghost workers but took just within six months for the former minister under Buhari, Kemi Adeosun to clear all ghost workers from the ministry.

It's time to undo all the atrocities committed by Wike against the good people of Rivers State.

I don't know why Tinubu is still allowing such a man to continue to attend the federal executive council meetings.

Well, we all know that the qualities to be around Tinubu and work for him are as follows: one must be a notorious narcotics drug trafficker, certificate forger, dollar stuffing babariga thief, ethnic bigot, buccaneering power grabber engaging in criminal state capture, and possess the capacity to work against the greater good of the people.

That's the reason there is no single technocrat in Tinubu's cabinet.

The much talked about best brains and egg heads are nowhere to be found.
If you have ever praised Wike as governor with his attitude and now condemning him because he didn't support your presidential candidate,God punish you.
PoliticsRe: Clarify Ondo Portion Of Lagos-calabar Highway, Ebiseni Tasks Aiyedatiwa by kedeojo(m): 5:46pm On Oct 22, 2024

….Says he’ll win based on LP’s achievements under Mimiko

Candidate of the Labour Party, LP, in the November 16 governorship election in Ondo State, Sola Ebiseni, has asked Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to address the people of the state on the proper alignment of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway in Ondo State.

Addressing newsmen in Akure, the state capital, on the preparation of his party for the election, Ebiseni criticized Aiyedatiwa over his silence on the project, averring that available maps of the alignment showed that the road may not appropriately traverse Ondo coastal areas and incidentally, candidates of the leading political parties are from the coastal area of the state.

His words: “Politics apart, the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway by the Tinubu administration is the most visionary project for the people of the Niger Delta.

“The Ondo State portion of about 100 kilometres and the longest shoreline stands to benefit the most, particularly in the area of coastal investments and management of coastal erosion but available maps of the alignment show that the road may not appropriately traverse the Ondo coastal portion.

“All efforts by leaders of thought from Ondo State particularly the people of Ilaje Local Government to ensure justice have proved abortive. The Governor has been indifferent. I suggested to him since May to call a meeting to brief our people for representations like other states and communities to the Federal Government on the proper and beneficial alignment of the road.

“Our Governor is busy celebrating a Kilometre of concrete walkway where a project that will enhance the establishment of deep-sea port, coastal investments, redress the coastal erosion in Aiyetoro and other places and impact our lives and civilization for good is being allowed to slip by.

“We need a Governor with the proper understanding and clout to make things work”

LP chances at the poll

Speaking on the LP chances, Ebiseni said: “Labour Party is a household political party in Ondo State and indeed the first political party with the grace of being elected twice for governorship from 2009 to 2017. My Deputy, Dayo Awude and I were commissioners in the government headed by Dr Olusegun Mimiko. Our campaign is woven around the achievements of that government in education, health, integrated rural development, women and youth empowerment.

“We are not in the business of crowd rentals or preaching to the disciples by hauling our members in buses to Akure and end up persuading the converted, we are meeting the people where they are and it is easy to remind them and point to Labour Party’s projects in their localities.

“They know that under the Labour Party government, education was free up to secondary school level with the state government paying WAEC fees which the present government refused to pay resulting in monumental national embarrassment where WAEC had to withhold the results of children.

“We are reminding them that in the state university and Polytechnic, by deliberate policy, tuition fees were pegged at N20,000 compared to the sum of N200,000. Our Mega schools are speaking for us and the students are not likely to forget that bursaries were last paid in 2016 at the end of the LP administration. Parents will remember our free bus shuttles for pupils throughout the state and vote for us.

“Mothers won’t forget that their deliveries in our hospitals were free of charge compared with about N250,000 they are paying today. Our first-class mother and child hospitals and other health facilities in every ward and rural community are the only medical outreaches seen in most parts of the state.

“Since our departure, none has been added to the modern markets we built in the crannies of the state, roads infrastructures, the University of Medical Sciences and other first-class facilities attached to it like the Trauma Centre and Gani Fawehinmi Diagnostic Centre all of which have become moribund and neglected by the present administration are speaking for us.

“Incidentally, these projects are easily identifiable with their Labour Party orange colours. The people believe that we will do much more knowing that we are part of the success stories. The other parties have nothing to show except personal controversial records of their candidates.”

Truly Mimiko still remains the best governor Ondo has got since 1999. My local government shared boundary with Ondo state. Some our people benefitted from Mimiko medical outreach. They were almost free for non Ondo indigenes. Up till till now I have not seen any other state that beat Ondo state market model in most of the towns and villages. Since the governorship and deputy governorship candidate under labour were mimiko former commissioners, I think let Ondo state vote for them. My mum lives in Akure and he always tell me about how the late Aketi was a failure and when i visited last year, Akure the state capital has detoriated. Mimiko replicate some Awolowo's style of governance. He introduced free education to secondary level and health care from new born to five years were free. Delivery were also free. How I wish Ondo people can look back and give the labour party man a chance. Mimiko performances as governor gave labour party popularity then. I don't do party but support credible candidates who are not tribalistic and religious fanatic. As both governors then, I rate Mimiko over Oshiomole my governor in terms of performance.

Why won't you call it fake. SHameless defenders of slavery and malfeasance.
Their level of hypocrisy is so loud. If it were to be from another zone and expecially an Apc governor, they will flood here. Very useless people. They just hype Otti. Nothing is really much happening for good over there. Look at the amount for only cars in just this year budget. He his not different from other governors. If truly he is a servant leader, he won't spend so much for vehicles when he couldn't pay last minimum wage and he has not also talk about the 70k minimum wage now. Igbos are known for hyping. Soludo will remain the best governor of this set from south east and one of the very best east has produced. He his currently among the best performing governors in Nigeria.

Expected to be the BEST but now he's struggling with Dapo Abiodun to be the WORST governor
Dapo Abiodun is better than most governors, expecially in road infrastructure. Forget the image laundering that they have used to stain his reputation. He has done better in road construction than my governor, Obaseki. The roads they have been calling him out for, are even federal road but he can still do them. However it is a big shame that Ogun produces a president for solid eight years and vice president for also same length and their federal roads are in bad shape.
