PoliticsRe: Akinwunmi Adesina To Mobilize $15 Billion For Lagos-Abidjan Highway Project by kedeojo(m): 12:13pm On Oct 19, 2024
SmartPolician:
The President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Akinwunmi Adesina, has confirmed that his institution, in collaboration with others, will mobilize $15 billion for the construction of the Lagos-Abidjan Highway project.

Adesina made this announcement on Friday in Abuja during the 90th birthday celebration of former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon.

The Lagos-Abidjan Highway corridor, overseen by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), will handle 80% of the region’s trade, according to Adesina.

He added that upon completion, the project will strengthen transport connections between Nigeria and the rest of West Africa.

“The bank is mobilizing now support for the development of the railway line, connecting Kano to Maradi in the Niger Republic.

“On a significant note, the African Development Bank has provided $12.6 million to my brother, the president of the ECOWAS commission to support a feasibility study for the Lagos-Abidjan corridor highway.

“As a bank, we and other institutions will help to mobilize the $15 billion necessary to finance that corridor which carries over 80% of the trade in the region.

“When completed, the corridor will enhance transport connections between Nigeria to the rest of the West African region,” Adesina said.

AfDB’s other investment stride in infrastructure
In addition, the president of the international financial institution listed some of their various investments to drive infrastructure growth in the country.

Adesina said the bank has helped raise over $300 million for the Enugu to Cameron project.

He also mentioned that AfDB invested over $40 million in the Lekki toll road to reduce congestion and slash the cost of traffic.

“To strongly support African social and economic growth, the African Development Bank invests heavily in infrastructure. For the last eight years alone, we have invested over $55 billion dollars in infrastructure.

“This includes roads and highways, transport corridors, seaports, airports, ICT infrastructure and regional power transmission networks. The African Development Bank has invested $389.3 million in the highway connecting Enugu to Bamenda in Cameron.

“This transport corridor will serve 11 billion people. Also, we have invested $49.5 million in the Lekki toll road, easing traffic and lowering transport costs,” he said.

What you should know
The Lagos-Abidjan highway project is a critical infrastructure initiative set to enhance regional economic integration by connecting five West African countries—Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Togo, Benin Republic, and Nigeria—through a 1,068-kilometer highway that will traverse eight border towns, starting at Eric Moore in Lagos and ending in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

The project, one of the largest infrastructure designs in West Africa, is estimated to cost about $15 billion when it is completed.
It is expected to carry over 500,000 passengers daily and significantly boost trade, tourism, and economic activities within the region.
The Lagos-Abidjan Corridor Highway is part of the broader Dakar-Lagos Corridor, one of the flagship development programs of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and is expected to be a key driver of regional integration

This man is the best ever nigerian envoy. Under his stewardship has the president of AFDB, we have benefitted a lot from him. He his a top performer. Let Pdp give him their presidential ticket in 2027 and see if the won't witness organic votes. He is far better than Makinde some of them are rooting for. Adeshina tenure will soon elaspe. He was a brilliant minister of agriculture under Jonathan and one of the few performers. He is much younger than any of the last presidential candidates. He his detribalize. If fielded by pdp then they have chances of coming back to power.
PoliticsRe: The True Story Of Isaac Adaka Boro by kedeojo(m): 4:57pm On Oct 18, 2024
giftedben:
During the Biafran-Nigerian civil war, there were a few Biafran sons and daughters, who were used and killed by the Hausa and Yoruba controlled Nigerian Government. Some of them were made to believe that Biafra was dominated by Igbos and would seize all the resources in Biafra lands. Isaac Adaka Boro was among the the prominent sons who were misguided.

And he paid dearly with his life for betraying the Biafran Republic. And for more than fifty years, his tribe have suffered the nemesis of his mistakes because he was misled and betrayed by his Hausa and Yoruba friends.

The storie of Isaac Adaka Boro is a great lesson for contemporary and potential betrayals of the renewed movement for the restoration of Biafran Republic.

Isaac Jasper Adaka Boro, from Kaiama (in present day Bayelsa State), was born in September 10, 1938 in Oloibiri. Isaac Boro, while studying Chemistry at University of Nigeria
Nsukka became the Student Union President of the University.

Despite the support and political patronage he got from his Igbo brothers at the university, Boro led the first revolution of resource control in Nigeria few months after Aguiyi Ironsi became the Head of State of Nigeria.

He formed the Niger Delta Volunteer Force (NDVF), the first armed militia of only Ijaw extraction. On February 23, 1966, Boro and his NDVF declared the Niger Delta Republic. This was the first time any part of Nigeria tried to secede. He believed that the Ijaw people deserved a reasonable share of proceeds of the oil wealth than they were getting from the Federal Government.

For twelve days Boro and his militias battled the Federal forces before they were finally defeated by the far superior Federal firepower. Isaac Boro and some of his men were convicted of treason and sentenced to death, but Ironsi out of mercy decided to jail him instead of killing him as demanded by the law. Why did you dodge about him been overpowered by the federal forces. Who were the forces then, if not Aguyi Ironsi and Ojukwu. They denied niger delta republic and a year later when the northern military men struck and Ironsi was killed, Ojukwu declared Biafra because he and his people were no longer in power.

On the eve of the Biafran-Nigerian war in May 1967, then Nigerian Head of State Yakubu Gowon granted him amnesty and drafted him into the Nigerian Army. He was afterwards commissioned as a major in the Nigerian Army. With his army of 1000 Ijaw soldiers. He fought alongside Col. Benjamin Adekunle, who was heading the 3rd Marine Commando Division of the Nigerian army.

With deep knowledge of the Niger Delta creeks, Boro and his men fought along-side the Nigerian troops to push back the Biafran soldiers of the region.

Isaac Boro was betrayed by the Nigerian forces he trusted. On May 16, 1968, after a successful gun battle against Biafran forces at Ogu (near Okrika) in Rivers State, Boro was ambushed by what many of his men then believed was a unit sent by Col. Adekunle. In a brief and fierce battle, Adenkunle’s men gunned him down.

His death went down in history as mysterious as there was no conclusive evidence on who assassinated Boro. Strong allegations pointed to treacherous Col. Adekunle, envied by Boro’s rising prominence in the Nigerian Army, Ordered the assassination of Boro in order to seize the glories which Boro enabled the 3 Marine Commando Division to achieve.

Subsequent to Boro’s death, Adekunle took all the credits of the achievements of the division.

A Regimental Sergeant Major under Boro was quoted saying "Boro did not die in the heat of battle with the Biafran forces". He said, the area had already been captured and secured by their troops and Major Boro was on an inspection tour when they came under fire. The type of gunfire that erupted during the gun battle that killed Boro was completely different from what the Biafrans were known to use in that area of the war. This confirmed to them that it was one of the federal troops units that carried out the ambush. As soon as Boro died, his 1000 band of soldiers was disbanded.

According to Olusegun Obasanjo in his book My Command, Adekunle’s post-war political ambition pushed him into assassinating Boro, as he was using the war to building a ‘formidable’ name for himself. Obasanjo stated that “Col.
Adekunle, at this point saw the war not only in terms of crushing a rebellion, but also as a means of building himself up for any future political position or responsibility which he
might wish to seek, I knew of people of Western State origin who had felt politically victimized and who saw in Col.Adekunle a saviour and told him so, and he believed them.”

What Boro fought and died for had eluded his people for years. Niger Delta has remained impoverished despite the huge revenue it has continued to generate for the country. Oil fields and mining leases have been allocated to northern oligarchs and friends.

Isaac Boro remains a lesson for future
revolutionaries in knowing where to pitch their tent.

Onyeama is just a crook like other Nigerian's. When we say, most so called billionaires in Nigeria, made their money through government or fronting for politicians and retired generals who has held positions in the country before. Many igbos here always exonerated their kinsmen and they will be saying, they didnt made money through Nigeria. Ask them why are they not a multi millionaires. Obi was the chairman of Tincan port under Abacha. He leverage on that position to import various products to the country as sole importer. For many years, he didn't occur to him to partner with those parent company to set up a branch of their company in Nigeria but went to decieved many gullible Nigeria about moving from consumption to production. From Hausa/Fulani to Yoruba, igbos and other tribe, we all have the big business name from those tribe as contributor to the rot the country is withnessing today. Let Onyeama face his charges cos I don't have any sympathy for him. Many igbos made it so big under Jonathan and they were benefiting to the detriment of the nation. PoliticsRe: How I Got Permit For $2b Nigeria's Biggest Power Plant - Davido's Father by kedeojo(m): 3:25pm On Oct 16, 2024
seunowa:
Adedeji Adeleke, the father of the award-winning superstar, David, popularly called Davido, has revealed what he went through securing the environmental permit for his power plant worth over $2 billion.

The billionaire industrialist disclosed this while speaking as a Layperson from the West-Central Africa Division during the Seventh Day Adventist General Conference Annual Council on Tuesday, which was held in Maryland, United States of America.

While sharing his experience as a Baptist member, Adeleke recounted how he ran into bottlenecks with ‘difficult government officials’, with a particular official saying to him that the project would never ‘see the light of day’.

He said he went on his knees and prayed to God because he did not want to accept the government official’s statement as the final say for his company, Pacific Energy which was closely working with Chinese engineering companies for the construction and design of the power projects.
I am a businessman in Nigeria. I’m into the electricity business. I own a power plant, I generate about 15 per cent of the electricity needs for Nigeria. I have Chinese engineering companies that work for me. I’m building the biggest power plant in Nigeria that will be completed in January 2025. It is a 1,250-megawatt power plant.
During the course of the design and getting the permit, we ran into difficult government officials. For environmental reasons, our permit was denied, and the particular government officials that I held a meeting with told me to my face that my project would never see the light of the day. But while he was saying that, I was saying in my mind that this guy is talking as if he is God. I was saying in my mind that God should listen to him; Because he is not God, whatever he is saying is null and void.”

“So I left, disappointed and I told my Chinese friends that unfortunately we have difficulty and this project is going to stall. Meanwhile, the project is worth about $2 billion. In the process, a lot of money had already gone into the design and preliminaries. Before we get to the stage where we would need a permit and then break ground. So my Chinese friend was worried because the Afrexim Bank of China was involved so that meant bankruptcy for him. I told him not to worry,” he said.
Adeleke further stressed that his Chinese friend had to travel down to Nigeria to discuss a way out because he never believed that prayer was enough to get the project done, noting that it did as the then Minister of Power granted the approval because he saw that the project was a brilliant one.

Recall that Adeleke had earlier spoken about this power project while delivering a lecture note at the 9th graduation ceremony of Adeleke University, Ede, Osun State in July 2023
This are the real billionaires. Yorubas has more billionaires than any other tribe in Nigeria. They are so silent and don't make noise.
PoliticsRe: Northern APC (CPC/ANPP) Can Pull Out Of APC by kedeojo(m): 3:16pm On Oct 16, 2024
CriminalTinubu:
If this happens, ACN will automatically become minority in all chambers of government.

Futher, the Northern faction can consolidate with other smaller parties, maybe not fully but on various levels and situations. They have nothing to lose in a 50-50 arrangement since they are not even having 10% of their way in the current APC setup.

For example, CPC can align with PDP and LP in the Senate just to impeach Akpabio. CPC can also align with LP & PDP governors on various interests.

The ACN lack the national support or structure to mount a challenge to any of the above scenarios as no opposition party member outside the South West will be willing to align with them on anything seeing their current predicament.

Another angle is that this move will level the playing ground for all parties in Nigeria as any wrong calculation by one party can result in it's annihilation since the others have similar individual numbers.

The APC currently have 59 senators while PDP have 37. If the Northern APC pulls out, ACN will drop to less than 30. Similar scenario in the House of Assembly of 176 lawmakers.

This move will really weaken Tinubu's 'federal might' since he has to now build bridges with 1 or 2 parties to pass anything unlike the rubberstamp modus operandi of the day.

This move can also help the governors so other party governors should be considering it. Take Rivers and Edo states situation for example under the chokehold of APC's 'federal might'.

If the North doesn't take advantage of this opportunity now they may never get it again and if they think they can wait till 2027 and hijack the party they will be gravely mistaken because Tinubu will not hesitate to do exactly what I typed up there if he senses his loss just to ensure that the Northern faction does not get the upper hand. By then, it may be too late.

Buhari, El Rufai, Ndume & co surely must be considering this.
All this nzogbu nzogbu Politicians, una no dey shame. You want to ask luck the north again and when you are disappointed, you start crying like a nursery school baby. Who do una like this bad oh.

It was so difficult to access AIT area back then. My neighbor then mixed out of buying a full standard brand new house for just 8m. His finances convinced him but he didn't agreed but just after a year when the road was constructed, he drove past the place and he just ask one of the land agent there, how much is a half plot and he was told 6m but will sell 5m last. Watch how Igbos will start saying that they are after him because of his tribe.
Jonathan favoured igbos individually after his ijaw brothers. That was the reason they became mad against Buhari and Apc cos the individuals and others who were plotting to get more were disappointed after his loss. Ijaw people moved on but igbos didn't. They feared that they will not get access to the government again, since they despise Northerners and Yorubas. My surprise was that, they were only after their pocket but not development. Igbos on this platform can't point to any meaningful project by Jonathan in south east. Buhari had projects you can ascribe to him. We in south south took Jonathan election loss in good faith even when we early questioned how the election was conducted but igbos keep making enemies to themselves after Buhari was sworn in. They rain curses on Yorubas and tag them slaves to Northerners but I was surprised the late Ogbonnaya onu was shedding tears about Apc not zoning the ticket to south east. Who does that. They are now crying since 2015 because they have been disconnected individually from the scheme of things. PoliticsRe: Give The South East A Seaport And Watch Lagos Turn Into A Graveyard by kedeojo(m): 8:34pm On Oct 13, 2024
Celestialsword:
Some Yoruba people have bragged about Igbo people being in Lagos, but they never knew that had it the Yoruba had not monopolised the seaport in Nigeria, no Igbo man would be in Lagos as Lagos would have turned into a graveyard.

Nigeria is a country where more than 200 million people make use of the Lagos seaport when it can be distributed among regions. There are seas with proximity to the ocean in Bayelsa, Calabar, Akwa Ibom, Warri, Anambra, Abia, and Imo, yet the Nigerian government has denied the East seaport.

Ndi Igbo being in Lagos is a plus to the Yoruba people. These Igbo people were denied seaports and forced to be in Lagos. As the highest importers in Nigeria, Ndị́ Igbo were forced to travel miles away from their homes to clear their goods. Many had lost these goods to bad federal roads in the East while bringing them down to Ịgbo land. Instead of losing goods all the time, they decided to lock up their shops in Onitsha and relocate to Lagos. Since then they are not only contributing to the IGR of Lagos, they are also developing Lagos.

Imagine a situation where Anambra or Warri, or even Abia or Akwa Ibom, have a working Seaport. Do you think our people will be trooping into Lagos? They will stay in their land and develop it.

If you take away the monopoly of seaports from Lagos, Lagos will lose its taste. That's because Igbo people will head home and replicate what you see in Lagos back home.

As an Igbo man, you must stop feeling that Yoruba people are doing you a favour because you are in Lagos. It is the other way around. You are the one doing them a favour. They connived with the Fulani to have the seaports to themselves.

When you say this they say don't you have seaport in Warri and Calabar. Funny people. This is how they do it. They will make sure you pay more if you decide to use Calabar or Warri seaports. They will also use their men in charge of those places to frustrate your goods. By the time your goods spend 6 months without clearing it, you will learn to use Lagos seaport. If you are from Warri or Calabar and you claim you have a seaport, then you are a clọ́wn.

There is onne port and its close to Aba. Stop all this foolish bragging.

So Edo don finally be Lagoshuh Shame
What is a shame. Is your state better governed than Lagos state. Be bold to mention it. Oshiomole took understudy of some aspect of governance from Lagos state as governor and it yielded result. Yes Lagos state is not perfect cos they should have moved better. We can point to one or two areas they have break even. Otti also undertook study immediately he was sworn in but I haven't seen any replicate of Lagos model yet. Watch out of the synergy between Lagos and Edo state in the coming days. Obaseki believes he knows better and by extension deprived us of some brilliant alliances.

A million Obi cannot make him win d last election!

It was simply agreed on dat an Esan man should be elected instead!

I blamed Obi for roping himself into d brouhaha cos most stupid online commentators are now mocking him for it!

If LP had fielded d rice man, their victory would have been a done deal already.
Don't mind him, Obi had expired politically cos the religious sentiment he rode on last year is now outdated. We will see his political might in Anambra guber election next year. Soludo will disgrace him and his candidate.

LP fielded d right candidate but from d wrong zone...

Akpata was lucky to score up to 22k... Obi effect made it possible!

I wasn't expecting Akpata to get up to 5000 b4
