Governor of Zamfara State, Bello Mohammed Matawalle has threatened that the North may be forced to retaliate attacks on its people by Southerners. Governor Matawalle warned that it was no longer a time to keep quiet and watch things go from bad to worse, urging Southern leaders to stop the attacks to avoid reprisal. The Governor issued the warning in a statement he personally signed on Thursday, lamenting that the lives, dignity, and possessions of Northerners living in the South were being threatened. According to him, it became imperative for a Northern leader such as himself to speak up following recent happenings in the country. Governor Matawalle pointed out that it was no longer a time to play politics or to play to the gallery, but a time to say things the way they are for the benefit of Nigerians. He said that the type of politics being played in Nigeria is politics without conscience, adding that Northerners are facing unsearchable conditions in many parts of the South-West and South-East in particular. He wondered why Northern leaders and elites have remained silent while they are supposed to stand firm, in the manner in which other leaders of the South are doing “even when they know that their people are at fault. This must not continue.” He added: “As northern leaders, our dignified silence in the face of constant provocation and assault, because of our desire for peace, must not be taken as a sign of weakness. “Indeed no community, or region has the monopoly of violence. “If Northerners and their means of livelihood will not be protected, accommodated and be dignified anywhere they choose to stay in any part of the South, Southerners should not expect protection from the North as the North has more than what it takes to respond to any kind of aggression and hatred.“ Speaking on the recent clash between some Yoruba and Hausa traders, in Sasha, Oyo State, the Governor said that up till now there has been no justice for Northerners. “We have seen the destruction, the killings and the devastation recently at Sasha Market against Northerners and their economic interests. “Properties worth billions of Naira were lost in addition to human lives, yet some leaders in the South-West are downplaying the atrocities committed or, worst still, justifying it. “Some of them have shamefully gone to the extent of apportioning blames on the victims and casualties of their aggression,” he said. The Governor further condemned the alleged killing of Northerners in Imo State on Saturday, calling on all leaders with conscience and fear of God to speak out “against this continued barbarism and hatred.” “We will not take that any longer as no human life is worthier than another,” he said. Governor Matawalle warned in should crisis escalates in the country, the South has more to lose in terms of its business interests in the North than Northerners living in the South. Following the activities of herdsmen in the Southern Region, where they are being accused of killing, raping, maiming and destroying farm lands, some groups have risen and vowed to chase them (majorly the Fulani) out of the region. |

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde has said
he will soon expose those politicising
insecurity in the state.
Admitting the state was facing insecurity
challenges, Makinde insisted the situation
was not peculiar to Oyo but a nationwide
phenomenon.
“If they are politicising the issue of
security because they want to be in power
in 2023, it means they are making a huge
mistake”, Taiwo Adisa, his spokesman
quoted him as saying.
The governor stated that his
administration had taken time to
investigate and proffer solutions to
reports of anxiety.
Makinde implored those fuelling insecurity
issues ahead of the general elections to
desist and stop engaging in actions that
cause palpable fear.
“We are doing different things. As a matter
of fact, it is on record that there is no
government in this state that has spent
more money on security than this current
one.”
Makinde pointed out that his
administration donated vehicles and
communication gadgets to security
agencies, and re-established Swift
Response Squad (SRS) as well as Operation
Burst.
“I must warn that politics is inherent in
this insecurity issue and in the days to
come, I will expose the people that are
politicising it”, he said. |
The West African Examinations Council
(WAEC) on Tuesday said its 2021 West
African Senior School Certificate
Examination (WASSCE) for school
candidates, earlier scheduled for May/June,
may not hold. The Council’s Head of National Office (HNO), Mr Patrick Areghan, gave the hint while announcing the release of results of the 2021 first series of the WASSCE for private candidates on Tuesday in Lagos, NAN reports. Areghan said the effect of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic is still much felt in the education sector. He noted that the entire education calendar has been distorted, therefore, it may not be possible to conduct the examination as scheduled. “Let me use this opportunity to dispel rumours being peddled about by some people regarding the conduct of the WASSCE for school candidates, 2021. “The effect of the COVID-19 is still very much felt in the education sector and this has taken its toll on the academic calendar in the country. “It is, therefore, not going to be possible to have the examination in May/June this year. A convenient international timetable for the conduct of this examination will soon be released. “To this effect, all stakeholders are, therefore, requested to keep their fingers crossed until they hear directly from WAEC,’’ the WAEC boss said. He then appealed to all the school principals and proprietors to keep to the stipulated timelines for the enrolment of candidates for the examination. According to him, it is important to re- emphasise the role of Continuous Assessment Scores (CASS) in the computation of candidates’ results. “All schools are advised to get this aspect of the registration process right, in order to make the entry processes seamless.’’ |

honest, capable and reliable person who
handled his job with utmost care and
responsibility.
He recalled that in 2016 the soldier, while
on pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia, picked up a
bag containing a large amount of foreign
currencies and turned it over to the
National Hajj Commission.
The action earned Afaka praises from the
Saudi and Nigerian authorities.
Buhari prayed the Almighty Allah to ‘”bless
the soul of the departed with an elevated
place in heavens,”.

and friends divine comfort. |
Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai,
has said he does not think bandits deserve
to live. The governor said any bandit operating in his state is “most likely going to end up dead”. El-Rufai said this on Sunday during an interview on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme. He revealed that Kaduna state became a target for bandits because he refused to negotiate with them. He said: “I think that the bandits and their leaders decided to collectively target Kaduna state because of the position we have taken that we will not negotiate with them, that we will not give them a penny of taxpayers’ money. “The first thing to do is wipe these bandits out. “Whoever comes to Kaduna for the purpose of banditry or kidnapping is most likely going to end up dead.” He reiterated that the solution to banditry is to intensify military operations in state affected including Kaduna. “We believe that the solution to this banditry problem is to intensify military operations from the air or the ground and wipe all of them out. “ Nigerian Army and security agencies, as an immediate step, need to acquire advanced weaponry to combat insecurity. “ We don’t think bandit deserves to live,” El-rufai added. |
Olusegun Bamgbose, National Coordinator,
Concerned Advocates for Good
Governance, CAGG, has said that the
sudden death of Yinka Odumakin, the
spokesman of Afenifere, is suspicious.
Bamgbose said he won’t want to believe
that Odumakin’s death was as a result of
COVID-19 complications, adding that he
wants the death investigated by the
Inspector General of Police, IGP
Mohammed Adamu.
Speaking to DAILY POST via the telephone
on Sunday, the senior lawyer said that the
news of the death came to him as a rude
shock.
“This is quite painful. He died at a time
Nigeria needed him most. He was no
doubt a social critic with a big difference,”
he stated.
According to him, Nigeria will miss the
Yoruba leader, adding that Afenifere has
indeed lost its best, “the shining light, the
light bearer of the Civil Society.”
“One seriously doubts if any other person
can replace him. He was a formidable
fighter against injustice, bad governance
and impunity,” he continued.
“He has indeed left an indelible mark on
the sands of history. The opposition has
lost a fearless fighter. They have lost a
General.
“One would however take solace in the
fact that his life was eventful and
exceptional. However I personally smell a
rat.
“His sudden demise is suspicious. I won’t
want to believe that his death was as a
result of COVID-19 complications. I want
his death investigated by the Inspector
General of Police.
“On my own part I’ll conduct my personal
investigation and I want to assure
Nigerians whoever is responsible for his
death will face the wrath of God before the
end of May 2021. It’s as serious as that.” |

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has said he won’t travel abroad for medical check-up, saying everything he need for medical examination was in the Government House Clinic built by his administration. Wike made this known when a delegation of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House, Port Harcourt on Wednesday. Wike’s comment comes at a time when the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), is in London for medical check-up. The governor, in a statement signed by his Special Assistant on Media, Kelvin Ebiri, urged the council to resist playing politics with approved quota for medical and dental schools in Nigeria, particularly the Rivers State University College of Medical Sciences. Wike was quoted as saying, “The health care system in Nigeria requires very serious attention. It is unfortunate where we are. I don’t want to comment on people who are traveling for medical check. I have not travelled for the past two years. “If we have all these things here why do we have to travel. We have all it takes to provide it. Why will I go out to do my check (overseas) when I have all the facilities in Government House? “I don’t need it. Everything that is required for me to undergo any test is here. The resources we have it. Why can’t we provide it for our people?” The governor further said his government would sign a contract for the construction of a world-class cancer and cardiovascular diseases centre with Julius Berger, saying when the centre, which is expected to be completed within 14 months is ready, would boost the internal revenue of the state government. |

Former Governor of Anambra State and Vice Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 general election, Mr Peter Obi has said he has no anointed candidate for the June 26th governorship primary election of the party. Obi spoke during an interactive meeting convened by the Anambra State chapter of the PDP for national, state, local government and ward officers of the party, in preparation for the forthcoming governorship election in the state. He said, “You must vote for people who have the capacity to win an election. Not all aspirants or candidates can win an election, so you must vote for people who can win an election. You must look well before you vote for people that will fly the flag of the PDP. “Our primary election will be free, fair and credible. Anything short of it, I’m not involved. I have no favoured aspirant, and let no one tell you they gave me money or anything because it is not true. “No aspirant has bought me sachet water. In my politics, I don’t believe in anyone giving me anything. I was governor of this state and a lot of you know me. Ask any contractor if they have ever given me anything. That is not the reason I’m in politics. I’m in politics to help gain a better future for Nigeria.” Obi also said despite his sterling performance in the state as governor, he has never received any form of entitlement from the state government. “Since I left Anambra State government seven years ago, I have not been given anything, not even a sachet of water by this government. I still go about my duties, giving donations to schools. “Not even a letter of commendation or even a Christmas or birthday wish. I’m however not bothered because that is not why I’m in politics. I’m in politics to contribute to the growth of the country. “Go and ask anybody, I don’t collect gifts. If you have a gift for me, please give it to a needy person around you. All the people I have helped to win an election, I have never asked for anything in return. “That is why I feel pained that somebody could say I demanded N7 billion for putting the governor in office. How can you leave N75 billion for someone and turn around to tell him to give you N7 billion out of it? That can not happen. My interest in politics is for the right people to be elected so that our society will be good.” |
Medical doctors at the University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan have suspended all surgical operations in the hospital till further notice, DAILY POST reports. Our correspondent reliably gathered that the reason for the suspension of the surgeries is due to lack of water supply to the hospital. On Wednesday our correspondent discovered that the teaching hospital has been experiencing water scarcity in the last few days. DAILY POST found that at the UCH, hundreds of patients on admission and their relatives have had to go through stress for the lack of potable water in the health facility. Some of the patients who are currently on admission in the hospital said they buy bags of satchel water to bathe and flush the toilets in the hospital. A relative of one of the patients told DAILY POST on Wednesday that doctors in the hospital told his family member that they have suspended surgical operations in the hospital as a result of scarcity of water. He said, “Someone who has been on admission at UCH for days just called me now that there has not been water supply to UCH for four days now. “Patients buy bags of satchel water to bath and flush toilet. He is on admission for surgery and because of the water situation, doctors told him no surgery for now.” One of the patients in the hospital told DAILY POST on Wednesday that he was admitted on Tuesday but there is no water to bath or flush. He said, “I was admitted to the haematology daycare unit in UCH yesterday. There was no water to even flush the toilet.” The Public Relations Officer of the hospital, Toye Akinrinlola when contacted told DAILY POST that the water scarcity was caused by ongoing renovation in the hospital. He added that the renovation is expected to be completed in the next three weeks. “When you visited UCH what did you observe? You will observe that there is a massive renovation ongoing. We are replacing the sewage system, that is why we have to shut down some facilities. “When such renovation is ongoing, we have to shut down five blocks. We do not admit patients except for a few critical cases. “The renovation is to be completed in three weeks. The issue of water scarcity that came up this morning is very strange to me. We have shut down our water plant and we cannot bring water from outside because we have our own water treatment plant. The best is for our patients to be patient with us.” DAILY POST recalls that the suspension of surgical operations in UCH occasioned by water scarcity is coming few hours after President Muhamadu Buhari left Nigeria for a medical checkup in London. Buhari had on Tuesday left the country for his health needs despite the huge amount of money budgeted for the State House clinic and other health facilities in the country. |

The United Kingdom is disturbed about the security situation in Nigeria. British High Commissioner, Catriona Laing, spoke to reporters at a reception for the 2019/2020 UK Chevening Scholarship beneficiaries. “We are extremely concerned about the deteriorating security situation”, NAN quoted her as saying. The envoy observed that Africa’s most populous nation is facing a lot of problems. “In the Northeast, terrorism; in the Northwest, banditry, kidnapping; in the Middle Belt, the farmers-herders conflict. “In the South, the Niger Delta conflict…and the secession movements in the Southeast. Nigeria is really struggling.” The official said her country had been helping the Nigerian military on training, campaign planning, and counter-IEDs. Laing assured that the UK was prepared to offer support and advised the Nigerian government to be precise on the areas of needs. “Your insecurity becomes our insecurity if we don’t help you tackle it. We are trying to do our best to support you,” he stated. Laing disclosed that Nigeria has 1,300 Chevening alumni occupying top positions. |

Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, a controversial Islamic scholar, has said he does not negotiate for bandits. Gumi disclosed this during a meeting with former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, yesterday. Sani had visited Gumi to plead with him to help negotiate the release of the 39 College students and eight members of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) who were kidnapped at the weekend. However, Gumi said: “As for the College students, we have done all we can do. Infact, I had a meeting with parents of the kidnapped students sequel to their meeting with Government. “I showed them what the problem is and they went to visit government and returned. “I am not a negotiator for bandits, we always ensured that government officials were present in our previous discussions with bandits in the forests, before the Federal Government’s shoot at sight order.” Bandits had a few weeks ago abducted some students of the Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation, Afaka in Kaduna. Also, unknown gunmen had over the weekend abducted some members of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, in the state. The kidnappers also demanded N50 million as ransom for their release. |

Nigerians on social media have expressed divergent opinions on President Muhammadu Buhari’s trip to London for “routine medical checkup.” DAILY POST reported yesterday that the President is billed to depart Nigeriaon Tuesday (today) for the United Kingdom for a medical check-up. This news did not go down with many Nigerians, who described the trip as the highlight of the failure of the Buhari administration. Mrs Betty Ann Blaine, a leading advocate and an activist in Jamaica, has called on like-minded people, organizations and governments to unite in one accord and wage a war against the imposition of a secular world-view on Judeo-Christian belief systems and way of life. Mrs Blaine, a former university lecturer and leader in the country’s Anti-Apartheid Movement, said she is all out with other like-minded people in Africa (especially Nigeria), Jamaica and Caribbean to fight on the side of Christians to uphold the Biblical tenets against some policies of political world leaders such as the aggressive LGBTQ and Abortion ideologies and agendas. In an exclusive interview with DAILY POST, Mrs. Blaine, a spokesperson on black history in Africa and the Diaspora, listed some of these similar concerns and threats Nigeria, the African Continent, the Caribbean and the Christian world face. She vowed to urgently rally like-minded people, organizations and governments to unite in one accord to challenge what she described as ‘clear and present danger’ to our belief systems and way of life. Highlighting the danger and threats posed to Africa and the Caribbean, Blaine said, “As a Child Advocate and a pro-family, Christian activist, I recognize the following common threats Nigeria, the African Continent, the Caribbean and the Christian world face: “The aggressive LGBTQ and Abortion ideologies and agendas dictating that we must agree with same-sex and pro-choice lifestyles and positions. “The affront to the traditional values countries like Jamaica and Nigeria embrace and live by – values that are pro-God, pro-life and pro-family. “The increasing indoctrination of children as young as five and six years old (kindergarteners) about sexual orientation, and doing this through sex-ed curricula, language, children story books, etc. “The ever-deepening and expanding transgender ideology and the attendant implications for the wellbeing and welfare of children, e,g, puberty blocking drugs and gender-altering surgeries. “The steady assault and disregard for our Judeo-Christian world-view and traditions.” “The attacks on Parental Rights – the rights of parents to educate, socialize and control the sexual education of their children, and decisions about radical surgical procedures and drugs.” |
Former President, Donald Trump has condemned the policy of his successor, Joe Biden on the controversial wall at the Mexican border. In an interview aired on Fox News Saturday night, Trump described Biden’s reversal of the “Remain in Mexico” policy as a “very bad decision”. Also known as the Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP), the programme initiated in 2019 turned back certain individuals from Mexico pursuant to Section 235(b)(2)(C) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA). Trump told Judge Jeanine Pirro via telephone that a lot of people wanted him to visit the border and that he would be there in the coming weeks. “Thousands and thousands of people are coming up right now as we speak. And you’re going to have millions of people pouring into our country. And it’s going to destroy our country. “I don’t know what they are doing and they don’t know what they are doing. It’s a very very dangerous situation. I’d love to be involved, somebody else is suppose to be doing it. “The border patrol wants me to go over the next couple of weeks. I don’t think there’s a rush for me to go. He (Biden) is supposed to go and make the decision. “Not only people, drugs are coming in, in a number that we’ve never seen before now. We stopped it largely. The wall was just a few weeks from being completed. He didn’t want to complete it.” Trump recalled that it took two and half years before the wall construction commenced. He pointedly blamed the Democrats in Congress. “Pelosi and everyone sued us 11 different times. So after we won, we started. They should finish the wall and have the Stay in Policy reinserted because if you don’t have that, this is going to be a disaster.” In his first news conference on Thursday, President Biden announced that some families are not going back because Mexico is refusing to take them. The American leader confirmed his administration was in negotiations with President Andrés López Obrador. “That’s going to change. They should all be going back,” he added. |

Godwin Emefiele, Governor of the Central
Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has said that the
country’s rising inflation was due to
insecurity.
He made the remark on Tuesday while
presenting the communique from the
Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting.
The decline in purchasing power has
increased for the 18th consecutive month
and the CBN chief blamed unsafe food-
producing areas.
The inflation continued on an upward to
17.33 percent at the end of February 2021
from 16.47 percent in January 2021,
according to Emefiele.
The governor said while the bank was
making significant intervention in the
agricultural sector, insecurity was limiting
supply to the market.
Emefiele urged stakeholders to collaborate
with the federal government to tackle the
challenge.
He also attributed the hike in petrol pump
price, electricity tariff, and Naira
depreciation to inflation.
Emefiele assured that the CBN would
continue to use its interventions to boost
food security in the country. |
Buba Galadima, a former leader of the
defunct Congress for Progressive Change,
CPC, has alleged that some government
officials would want banditry to continue.
Galadima said some of the officials want
banditry to continue due to the economic
gains they derive from the criminal act.
In a chat with DAILY POST, the estranged
political associate of Buhari also
maintained that the Federal Government
was unwilling to confront the menace of
banditry in some parts of the country.
According to Galadima: “The Federal
Government itself does not want to fight
this war against bandits, so if their
posture of not trying to fight this war to a
logical conclusion suggests that they are
part of the system, then I concur.
“I feel there are a lot of people in
government who really do not want this
fight to end because of the economic value
to them just like the Katsina governor had
said.”
The elder statesman also berated those
rubbishing Islamic Scholar, Sheikh Ahmad
Gumi for interacting with bandits.
Stressing that Gumi was only filling a
vacuum left by the Federal Government,
Galadima stated that those against the
cleric’s interaction with bandits are
unpatriotic Nigerians.
He said: “Those saying Gumi’s interaction
with bandits is treason are unpatriotic
Nigerians. What Gumi has done is that he
has tried to fill a vacuum created by those
in authority and this is why concerned
citizens are taking it upon themselves to
see what they can do to bring about a
solution.
“There is nowhere in the world that this
should be treasonable. Gumi is not going
there to encourage them into violence but
to see things from their perspective, what
led them into such and then interface in
bringing about solutions. Because Gumi is
the one doing this, some people in
authority don’t like his face.
“This will not be the first time that an
authority would hold talks with people
who have taken arms against the state.
Didn’t we negotiate with Biafra even after
the war? Didn’t we negotiate with the
restive Niger Delta youths? Didn’t we talk
to OPC? So what is good for the goose is
also good for the gander.
“Please, we should build Nigeria; if it takes
Gumi and others to talk to these bandits to
drop their arms so that some of us can
travel from Abuja to Kaduna without fear,
let it be. Gumi is doing what I cannot do; if
I’m in the position to talk to them, I will.”
He also suggested that the Federal
Government should negotiate with bandits
as a way of resolving the menace.
“If the Federal Government cannot defeat
them in war, why can’t it negotiate with
them? The federal government has shown
that they are incapable of defeating these
bandits or Boko Haram.
“So, as an ordinary citizen, what will you
suggest? You people have the adage that if
you can’t beat them, join them. I don’t
think the government is willing to settle
this issue because some people among
them enjoy it or gain from it, so they can
never sort it out. The only thing is for all of
us to come out and chase them out of
power, then find another group,” he said. |
The Independent National Electoral
Commission (INEC) has vowed not to
surrender to what it called ‘electoral
banditry’ aimed at discrediting the
electoral process and returning pre-
determined outcomes.
Mr. Festus Okoye, INEC National
Commissioner and Chairman, Information
and Voter Education Committee, made the
vow in an interview with NAN, on Sunday,
in Abuja.
Okoye was speaking on the decision to
indefinitely suspend the Saturday Ekiti East
State Constituency 1 election held in Ekiti
State.
He said that the decision was necessary to
preserve the integrity of the country’s
elections, as well as safeguard the lives of
citizens.
Okoye said that for the commission to
proceed with any election in the face of
brazen violence that had compromised the
integrity of an election, would amount to
dereliction of its electoral duty.
He noted that the Resident Electoral
Commissioner for Ekiti State (REC) issued a
statement detailing the level of violence
unleased on voters, election officials and
security personnel on election duty.
The INEC commissioner said that the
commission had reinforced the situation
report of the REC for Ekiti by imposing an
indefinite postponement of the state
constituency 1 by-election.
“These measures are necessary to
preserve the integrity of elections and the
life and safety of voters, election officials
and security personnel on election duty.
“INEC will never condone electoral banditry
aimed at discrediting the electoral process
and returning predetermined outcomes”,
he stated.
DAILY POST recalls that following the killing
of three persons who were shot dead by
gunmen while a policewoman, corps
member and INEC staff sustained gunshot
injuries during the Saturday election, the

A Fulani group identified as Fulani
Nationality Movement, FUNAM, has claimed
responsibility for the attack on Governor
Samuel Ortom of Benue State. FUNAM said it planned to kill Ortom on Saturday, but its plan suffered a setback due to a slight communication error. A statement by one Umar Amir Shehu said Ortom stood against open grazing and Fulani interest in the country. The statement entitled: “Why we attacked Ortom” reads: “Our attention has been drawn to media reports today speculating about who attacked the Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom. “Yes. Yes, We did. The Fulani Nationality Movement, (FUNAM) carried out the attack. We have genuine reasons. We acted on behalf of Millions of Fulani people in 15 countries. “It’s a case of vengeance against an infidel who has used his time and money, deployed in destroying the Fulani values and inheritance. “Our courageous fighters carried out this historic attack to send a great message to Ortum and his collaborators: Where ever you are, once you are against Fulani long term interest, we shall get you down. This is a clear warning. We hope those who take us for granted will get the indisputable message. “Our intention is unequivocal: TO KILL HIM. That mission will one day be fulfilled and very soon too.” “Eleven of FUNAM operatives were involved in the attack. Ortom escaped today because of a slight technical communication error. Next time, he will not be lucky. We can assure him and his supporters.” On Saturday, herdsmen had attacked Ortom on his farm at Tyo-mu village, along Makurdi – Gboko road. Reacting, the governor had alleged that linked the assassination attempt to Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, MACBAN. The governor claimed that MACBAN had concluded plans to assassinate him over his position on open grazing. Ortom alleged that the Myetti Allah took the decision to eliminate him during a meeting they organised recently in Yola. He noted that his life is in the hands of the Supreme God and no Fulani man can kill him, said he received intelligence that the Association planned to kill his security aides and subsequently capture him alive. |
The apex Igbo socio-cultural organization,
Ohanaeze Ndigbo has responded angrily
to a recent comment by Doyin Okupe, a
former aide to Ex-Presidents, Olusegun
Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan. Okupe had in a series of tweets on Saturday, claimed that the North are yet to forgive the Igbo over the incidences of 1966 of which one of the high points was the killing of Sardauna of Sokoto. “A national consensus for Igbo Presidency cannot evolve until the core north forgives the Igbos for the killing of Sardauna of Sokoto by nigerian soldiers of igbo extraction in the 1966 Coup. “If this consensus emerges, in the interest of equity, fairness & national unity, I will shelve my ambition & support whoever is chosen as a candidate by my party. “However, in the event that this national consensus is not achievabe, I WILL RUN FOR PRESIDENT IN 2023 by God’s Grace. “This is the political Knot only the Igbo leaders must spearhead and with the support of other well meaning Nigerians, resolve with a high level of humility and political dexterity,” he wrote. Although he has apologized over the outburst, Ohanaeze gave him heavy knocks on Sunday. President-General of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, in a statement made available to DAILY POST, said “there is every indication that Doyin Okupe needs urgent medical attention. His action is not far from a person that is mentally deranged. “He is being tormented by Aso Rock spirit and needs both orthodox treatment and spiritual deliverance.” Okwu added that the former media aide was being used by some politicians to advance their 2023 presidential ambition against the interest of Ndigbo and Nigerians in general. “We have it good authority that Okupe was found as a willing tool by some desperate politicians who are doing everything to stop an Igbo man for becoming President of Nigeria. “They saw in him an unsound mind and capitalized on it to insult the sensibilities of Ndigbo. We advise his family to help him before his condition deteriorates. He is having issues with his mental capacity. “Only someone that is mentally deranged will come up at this point in history to claim that the said coup was an Igbo coup, even when the evidences are there that other parts of the country were indeed part of that exercise. “We must make it clear that no matter the antics anyone may play up, Igbo presidency is non negotiable and we are not going to be cajoled into giving up on that. Anything to the contrary will mean that the Igbo have been asked to leave Nigeria. “A million mad people like Doyin Okupe will not stop Ndigbo. He should go and face his case before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. He is apparently playing this boyish game to earn a soft landing but all these antics had fallen like pack of cards.” |
