Therefore, cover up to protect yourself from these diseases. Get a jacket and a good pair of rain boots. Better to be safe than sorry.

4.Stay off street food; We all love our roadside akara, fries and suya but during the rainy season, food cooked and sold in the open air are likely to come in contact with airborne and waterborne diseases and bacteria. Better to eat fresh, home-cooked meals.

5.Equip yourself with Vitamin C – Up your Vitamin C intake either in natural form or as food supplement. This will help you drive away the cold virus faster, as a healthy supply of this vitamin will activate your antibodies and reduce the severity of cold.

Two men who decided to steal electricity cables in Orji Community, a nearby town in Owerri, the Imo State Capital -met their tragic end.

According to reports, the thieves, around 2am on the fateful day went to steal cable electricity wires connected to a transformer , but unfortunately for them they got electrocuted in the process.

The dead vandals were unlucky, according to reports because no sooner had they climbed the transformer to disconnect the cable wires and do away with them, than electricity was restored, leading to their instant electrocution.

A 3-year-old unattended boy who fell out of window and had his head stuck in security window bars in east ‪China‬'s Jiangsu province was saved by neighbors who climbed on wall on Friday.

The boy was reported playing alone at home while his grandma stepped out. He was seen playing near the window and fell out of it, thankfully his head was stuck between the bars. The neighbors who spotted the situation immediately climbed on wall to hold the boy's body in case he suffocated or slipped from the bars and fell on ground.

The boy's grandma was back home in some ten minutes and he was pulled up afterwards. The unidentified boy is reported in stable condition now.

Former Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Customs, Abdullahi Inde Dikko, has reportedly owned up to having properties worth $50m in Dubai alone, according to Nigeria anti-corruption investigators currently in discussions with him.

Mr. Dikko returned to Nigeria looking gaunt and frail after he was declared wanted by the Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), reportedly suffering from prostate cancer said to be at the terminal stage. Investigators said Dikko has vehemently denied owning properties anywhere else in the world except a huge house in Abuja and a multi-billion Naira farm in his home state of Katsina.


A source involved in the negotiations said Dikko was not arrested and hurled into detention because the authorities are worried that if harshly treated, he might die in detention, which might it harder to recover his assets from Dubai.


It would be recalled that a few years ago, this website called Mr. Dikko a certificate forger, and ran several stories to that effect.

A female teacher accused of having sex with a 13-year-old pupil from her class has handed herself in to authorites.
Alexandria Vera, 24, allegedly admitted to having the relationship with her pupil since September last year and is understood to be pregnant with his child.

A warrant was issued for her arrest, but officers were unable to track down the middle school English teacher.

Now according to Eyewitness News , Vera has presented herself to officers at Montgomery County Jail in Conroe, Texas.She is being charged with continuous sexual abuse of a child.


The affair is alleged to have started when the boy, who cannot be named, failed to show up to her English class.Vera then used Instagram to message the young pupil.

She gave the boy her number and the relationship developed to the point they were having sex on an almost daily basis, according to court documents filed in Houston, Texas.

The pair apparently made no effort to hide the affair and had the full support of the pupil’s family who are said to be “excited about the baby”.
She drove to the student’s house and kissed him in the car then visited the next day when his parents were away and the pair had sex, officers say.

Vera claims she and the teen are in love. According to court documents, Vera had sex with her 13-year-old student almost daily. Vera allegedly told investigators, the boy's parents knew about the relationship, were supportive of it, included her in family gatherings and even introduced her as his girlfriend.

A spokesman for the school said:

“When the allegation was made in April, the teacher was immediately removed from the school and placed on administrative leave.
“The safety and security of Aldine ISD’s students and staff remains a priority of the school district.” If convicted, Vera faces 25 years to life behind bars.

The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has called on the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress to call off the ongoing strike over the increase in fuel pump price from N86 and N86.50k to N145.

The former Lagos State Governor pleaded with the President of the NLC, Ayuba Wabba, and other leaders of the congress to return to the negotiation table with the Federal Government to resolve the current industrial dispute.

A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has sentenced a former Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration Safety Agency, Mr. Raymond Omatseye, to five years in prison for a N1.5bn contract scam.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission had arraigned for engaging in contract splitting and bid rigging estimated at over N1.5bn while he was the DG of NIMASA.

The offence, according to the EFCC, contravened Section 58(4) (d) of the Public Procurement Act, 2007.



Omatseye was also charged with money laundering contrary to Sections 14(a) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2004.

The President of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria, Justice Babatunde Adeniran Ademjumo today granted an interim order restraining the Nigeria Labor Congress from embarking on indefinite strike slated for tomorrow to protest a hike in the price of petrol.


Presiding over lawsuit No.NICN/ABJ/179/2016 between Federal Government of Nigeria and the Nigeria Labor Congress and Trade Union Congress the judge granted an interim order of injunction restraining the Defendants/Respondents, their agents, privies, employees, workmen, or servants from embarking on industrial action, demonstrating or engaging in any action that may disrupt the economic activities of Nigeria pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.

The Federal Government was represented by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN; Okoi Obono Obla, Special Assistant to the President on Prosecution, and Dayo Apata, Director of Civil Litigation at the Federal Ministry of Justice.

The Attorney General of the Federation submitted that if the reliefs sought in the motion paper is refused, irreparable damage will be done to the country's national economy, security and corporate existence. He further submitted that the defendants having threatened to shut down the country have to be restrained otherwise there will be a breakdown of law and order.

In his ruling, today Justice Adejumo held that he has jurisdiction to hear the application and that having read through the affidavits in support of the application, he is satisfied that a case of urgency has been established by the Federal Government of Nigeria to warrant the grant of an interim order of injunction.

He said the threats of the defendants as contained in the communique issued by the NLC on May 15 to shut down all banks; airports, seaports, government offices, markets nationwide has proven that there is a res to be protected

Hong Hong was born with 31 digits because of a genetic condition inherited from his mum - he has 15 fingers and 16 toes


Parents of a young boy born with a total of 31 digits - 15 fingers and 16 toes - have appealed for help.

Little Hong Hong was born in China three months ago with an extreme form of polydactylism.

The condition is characterised by extra fingers or toes and in Hong Hong's case he also has two palms, but no thumbs on either hand.


The youngster was born to two migrant workers from the village of Zhongping, in Pingjiang County in central Hunan Province.

Zou Chenglin, Hong Hong's dad, said his wife, who works in a factory in Shenzhen City, in southern Guangdong Province, also has the genetic disorder. Zou said: "My wife has one extra finger and toe on each of her hands and feet, so we were worried that our child would inherit the condition. "But after going to three big hospitals in Shenzhen, doctors found no birth defects on our son during scans."

The couple had a huge shock when Hong Hong was born with seven fingers on his right hand and eight on his left, with eight toes on each of his feet. Zou said the family has since been to a dozen hospitals and the family were relieved to know that Hong Hong can be operated on when he is between six months and a year old. The surgery could cure the polydactylism and give the boy a chance at a normal childhood.

But the family are unable to raise the 100,000 to 500,000 RMB (£10,600 to £53,000) required for the operation and the post-op recovery. The parents are now trying to reach out to local charities and is hoping that the public will extend a helping hand.

There was a breach of the peace on Etunrere Street in the Ikorodu area of Lagos on Monday after the wife of a policeman attached to the state police command allegedly stabbed her neighbour, Mrs. Olaitan Ayobami. The cop’s wife, Mrs. Desola Ochoche, fled the residence afterwards, leaving Ayobami for dead.

Ayobami was later rushed to a private hospital in the area. PUNCH Metro learnt that the attack was caused by a scuffle between the duo on Sunday when Ochoche reportedly challenged Ayobami to a duel for laughing at her. It was gathered that they were separated only for the fight to resume around 6am on Monday when Ayobami, a teacher, wanted to bathe.


Our correspondent was told that after the face-off, the teacher with her children were heading for school when Ochoche ambushed her at the entrance of their rented building with a shard of bottle.

She was said to have chased her to the garage on the premises and stabbed her in the head and hand. It was learnt that Ochoche was eventually arrested by policemen from the Igbogbo Police Division, but released a few hours later. Ayobami said she wanted Ochoche to be brought to book, adding that she was still in pains. She said, “On Saturday, I left my phone in my kitchen and when I went back to pick it, I found it inside water.

I wanted to challenge Iya Oby (Ochoche), but my husband warned me not to do so because I didn’t have evidence. On Sunday, she started singing abusive songs against me, but I did not reply. “At a point, I laughed and she became angry. She poured water on me and we fought.

While I was going to the bathroom on Monday morning, she attacked me and we fought again. Her husband separated us and warned her to let peace reign. “I was going to school when she attacked me in the corridor and stabbed me with a shard of bottle. Her husband, who is a policeman, took her to the Igbogbo division, but she has been released.

I want her to be charged to court.” Ochoche, who spoke with our correspondent on the telephone, admitted stabbing Ayobami. She, however, claimed that she acted to revenge an injury earlier inflicted on her by the teacher. She said, “I have been warning her to stop insulting me with songs. She would accuse me of flirting around just because I am not employed.

It is true I stabbed her but she had used something to injure me in the face while we were fighting around 6am on Monday. I revenged so that she would know she cannot intimidate me.” Asked if it was Ayobami’s laughter that caused the Sunday’s fight, she replied, “I don’t know.

I am on medication and want to sleep.” Another neighbour, Sarah Elijah, said she was in her kitchen when she heard the sound of a broken bottle, adding that she did not approach Ochoche to avoid trouble.

The landlord of the house, who did not want his name in print, told our correspondent that the two tenants had been at loggerheads for a long time. He said he had intervened on several occasions and served their husbands notices to quit when the fight persisted.

He said, “I have called them several times and talked to them, including their husbands. I gave them notices to quit in January when the fight was going out of hand.

The Monday incident was terrible. Ochoche’s husband told me Ayobami was the one who initially attacked his wife.

But residents said it was not true. I told her (Ochoche) not to enter my house again because I fear something worse may happen.” The police spokesperson in the state, SP Dolapo Badmos, said it was a case of affray and the two women would be charged to court.

She said, “The two women injured each other and they have been released to go and take care of themselves after which they will be charged to court for affray.”

A native of Sawla in the Northern Region shot himself dead at Bomaa on Wednesday after relatives of his 19-year-old fiancée asked him to perform the necessary marital rites, including the payment of her bride price.


According to a report by graphic.com.gh, Simon had eloped with Felicia Tetrah, and settled with her at Bomaa in the Tano North District of the Brong Ahafo Region, but the Tetrah family traced the two to the town and ordered Sawla to either perform the customary rites leading to marriage or release their daughter to them.



Not satisfied with the turn of events, Simon is reported to have entered his room, and with the emissary from Sawla waiting outside, shot himself using a single-barreled shot gun.

He was found dead in a pool of blood on his bed, the report said.
