Masked jihadi gunmen have killed at least 20 with 'foreigners among the dead' in Burkina Faso's capital after invading a popular tourist hotel. Security forces with the help of 30 French troops - stormed the Splendid Hotel in Ouagadougou's business district more than five hours after it was attacked by the jihadists. Some hostages remain trapped inside the hotel, which was accidentally set on fire during the rescue attempt. The four-star hotel is reportedly used by UN agency staff and is near a cafe called Cappucino, said to be popular with expats, although U.N. spokesman in Ouagadougou, Emile Kabore, told CNN he did not believe any U.N. staffers are currently staying at the hotel. A witness who gave only his first name, Gilbert, said that when security forces first arrived, they turned around rather than confront the attackers. 'But we know that the gunmen won't get out of the hotel alive,' he said. 'Our country is not for jihadists or terrorists. They got it wrong.' “Men cannot but cheat. Despite the fact that I give ‘it’ to him anytime he wants ‘it’, he still chases women around. I wonder what else he is looking for in other women that he has not found in me or in other women all these while,” was the lamentation of a distraught housewife who accused her husband of cheating on her despite their seemingly healthy sexual relationship. This is no doubt akin to what many other women feel or go through in their marriages, as they often accuse their men of cheating on them. Thus, the question, what makes men cheat? On a cursory look, it is heart-warming to note that previous studies had shown that women are more likely to cheat than men, and that such women do cheat out of feelings of neglect, boredom and discontent with their sexual experience – whether inadequate or ‘dry.’ Be that as it may, it is still assumed in this part of the world that most men cheat on their wives, perhaps because men are moved by what they see. Thus, as long as these men keep seeing figures that appeal to them, that flirtatious thought may be lurking in their minds. Regardless, according to a cheating consultant, Rosie Freeman-Jones, reasons why men cheat include adventure, unsatisfactory sexual experience with their wives, frustration with their relationship with their wives, and revenge, which is often caused by feelings of heartbreak and deceit, rather than any genuine passion or desire for another person. She told Mail Online that it was for these reasons that men (and women alike) had taken to the social media and cheating sites to have secret affairs. In other words, it is not for nothing that cheating sites have recorded about 250 per cent rise in new members in recent times. Freeman-Jones explained further that while women tend to hook up with people they already know, such as colleagues or ex-partners, men tend to go to nightclubs and bars with the expectation of finding fleeting romance with someone else. She added, “This reveals the difference between both genders when it comes to cheating. Men are more comfortable seeking what they want in nightclubs and bars because, first and foremost, they are looking for sex, rather than emotional connection. While women are more often than not looking for more comfort, more support and more emotional connection, which is why they are more likely to seek out those they’ve already got a history with.” From a more interesting perspective, a licensed family counsellor in the United States, Gary Neuman, carried out a study and found that the reasons why men cheat could be diverse. In the study, published in his book – The truth about cheating – and reviewed on webmd.com, 200 cheating and non-cheating husbands were interviewed to unravel the reasons why men cheat. From the study, 48 per cent of men gave emotional dissatisfaction as the primary reason for their infidelity, while 66 per cent of the cheating men said they felt guilty during their ‘affair’ with other women. Neuman said, “Men are good at compartmentalising feelings. They can hold on to their emotions and deal with them later. So even if your husband swears he would never cheat, don’t assume it can’t happen. It’s important for both of you to take steps toward creating the marriage you want.” The study further gathered that while 40 per cent of cheating men met the other woman at work or in the line of duty, 77 per cent of cheating men had a good friend who cheated, simply because hanging around friends who cheat makes cheating seem normal and legitimises it as a possibility. Neuman had this to say, “Build your social circle around happily married couples that share your values – it will create an environment that supports your marriage.” Of utmost interest, however, is the fact that while six per cent of cheating men had sex with a woman after meeting her that same day or night, only 12 per cent of cheating men said their mistress was more physically attractive than their wives, which means that not all men who cheat do so because their wives were not stunningly attractive. Neuman added, “A man doesn’t stray because he thinks he’ll get better sex with a better-looking body. In most cases, he’s cheating to fill an emotional void. He feels a connection with the other woman, and sex comes along for the ride. However, if you’re worried about infidelity, focus on making your relationship more loving and connected, not on getting your body just right or mastering new sexual positions, even though sex does matter and it should be a priority.” Another researcher, Eric Anderson, a sociologist at the University of Winchester, England, found that most men who cheat still cherish their relationship and would want to stay with their partner but they only want to have some more sex from the outside. He explained that a lot more men would want to have sex with more than one woman, but for their marital vows, adding that most men would rather cheat and “repent” instead of telling their wives because, according to him, such confession had been found to end many relationships. In a study involving 120 men, he found that 78 per cent of these men admitted they were cheating on their partners, even though they maintained they loved their partners and they intended to stay with them. The study was published on Mail Online. The researcher told Huffington Post, “Men want to be emotionally monogamous, though their body craves sex with other people somatically. The physical desires don’t die; they just change from one partner to other people. “When men cheat for recreational sex – not affairs – they do love their partners. If they didn’t, they would break up with them. The men were perfectly alright with sex outside of a relationship for them, but not for their partners. The feelings of betrayal many partners inevitably feel after a man cheats is simply because of a socialised victimhood.” This implies that beyond the perceived natural tendency, reasons men cheat include boredom, need to experiment sexually, unsettled home, emotional dissatisfaction, heredity, revenge, intention to spite the partner and resentment from their wives, according to a relationship counsellor, Dr. Kamal Khurana. Reacting to the study, a psychologist, Prof. Toba Elegbeleye, said even though men and women have the natural tendency to cheat on their partners, men could have been more culpable because they seem to be culturally permitted unlike for women. He said, “Apart from some of the reasons pointed out by the studies, essentially, men cheat because of social permissiveness, meaning that, in this environment, it has become a norm to have boyfriend or girlfriend. Sometimes, having a girlfriend becomes part of the indices for measuring masculinity. So, it is more because it is permitted around here. Other reasons men cheat include having negligent wives and dissatisfaction. “The one that is frowned upon is that of women. Not that they don’t cheat, but they are more discreet about it. There are cultural nuances that will not allow women to cheat even if they want to.” When asked what women could do to dissuade their men from cheating, Elegbeleye added that women should be good to their men and try as much as possible, on a daily basis, to renew that which would make them appealing to their partners. http://www.omobablog.com/2015/11/exposed-main-reasons-men-cheat.html#more
