People,
whats up with UBA, its showing no direction for now, any hint on when results could be out? i expect a 50k dividend as the least. That is a 14% yield which will be the highest for now,
All other subsidiaries in the group except Transcorp have paid something, i expect UBA to drop their own too.

YerYer: While I was very lucky in that Disney trade, it's not always the same for every trade. Options is very very risky and if you're not hedging properly, it is one of the fastest ways to burn money.
Take for instance, the Game stop (GME) trade from earlier is losing massively today because microsoft just announced it will be offering a $10 monthly subscription plan which allows gamers to play a variety of Xbox one and Xbox 360 games. This basically means more people will be downloading or streaming games online rather than visiting gamestop shops to buy games. The stock is down over 10% today alone and my options position is down even more; losing over $3000 today alone. I still believe my thesis is intact though; what Microsoft announced today isn't anything new, they already have a similar subscription just that this is broader and players can both stream and download games, EA has a similar subscription as well. With 2 months remaining to expiration, I will watch the stock closely and plan my next move.
Back to your question, I took a cheap course from udemy, it cost like $15 or so, but this particular instructor used the Think or Swim platform and that also helped. Best of luck. . Thanks bro, will check it out. But you don't have to own the stock when trading options now? |

YerYer: Final update on the Disney (DIS) option trade. I will be closing out this trade today once the market opens. An almost $5k profit for a trade which cost me nothing is a good trade. A delusional analyst downgraded the name today and cut the price target, so I wouldn't take any more chances from here.
Later I will talk about another options trade making me some bang, though I took a small stake in the name, the percentage gain has been phenomenal. Bro, nice, Looking into learning options, could you be as kind to teach the house.? K |

People, Did you guys see way UBA finished today, just looking at the charts.
If it closes at 5.10 - 515 ish tommorow, then it could break the 5.30 resistance before results come out. @fxuser, I could use your comment here oh.

Maybe by the time it eventually settles, the house you are moving it to might be placed on suspension for one reason or the other.

Angelo, Yes I have taken a margin before but it's been a long time ago, during the market boom era, some brokers would give about 50 to 80 percent of your existing portfolio with them at rates of 15 to 20 percent, as I said that was a while back. It the trend has changed again, it a broker charges are low, them to increase frequency of trading margins are encouraged. Some brokers still do it if ypur you ask. K angelo82: Have you taken margin facilities before?I always think such things aren't possible in Nigeria and even I also believe even if you can take margin, the rate might kill you. |

I have started shopping for another broker , going forward am haring my portfolio amongst 3 brokers, this Morgan's experience is lesson.
1. Cost of execution for morgan is about 1.55% for both buying and selling, ( which I must say is the attract ).
2. Direct access trading platform is just too good (folio)
3. The third requirement is they must have good customer service.
4. Margin account trading and rates for margin.
Please house help out throw up such brokers so we can move to a more serious brokers.
Time dey go oh.

ExLaidback: If I may Sir,
UBA: until it crosses 4.35 I'll not say it's going up. It's still within it's yield limit Dangflour: Has released a rather good FY 2015 result - coming from a loss position and they have a history of paying dividend, though I don't think the yield is that much so it's normal for there to be some increase in the stock price. FBNH: I'm not sure why anybody will be positioning for dividend in FBNH, when Zenith and UBA are on ground (GTB is over priced for dividend in my humble opinion). I said it when their result came out that paying good dividend now will not be their major priority for obvious reasons and they later confirmed it in their conference call. So.. Thanks Bro, Watching and praying.. K |

davide470: FBNH is on a slow and steady path to revovery. They had their Analyst presentation/call today and part of the key points noted was: Replacement of their Chief Risk Officer and drastic remedial measures are being taken against their NPL's.
Nevertheless, on a 2 - 3 years investment horizon, i would gladly go for FCMB as against FBNH based on the upside potential and capital appreciation. People, Not happy about FBNH results but I suspected. My average is 3.03 (3.05 and 3.01), as for me and my household, we leaving FBNH. The trip about the useless bank be say it will now trade heavy volumes, which confuses people the more. at any price people still like it. Please is itrade back ? Men wan leave FBNH. Let's be careful with the remaining banks, they are all operating in the same economy. K |

ExLaidback: This is not to over flog the issue but just to educate some of us here, especially the investors with a mid to long term view. (Personally at the end of this year, my portfolio is getting divided into two parts strictly i.e. JIJO and long term. This is by choice and not by bull trap or force )
Well we discussed UBA and GTB's result earlier so here are a few things to note about the Statements of Profit and Loss and Other Comprehensive Income based on IFRS
1. Entities currently have a choice and can present profit or loss and other comprehensive income in either: • A single statement of comprehensive income; or • Two statements: a statement displaying components of profit or loss (an income statement), and a second statement beginning with profit or loss and displaying the components of OCI (a statement of other comprehensive income).
2. IAS1 proposed: • To present a statement showing as two separate sections: i. profit or loss; and ii. all items of ‘other comprehensive income’ (OCI); and • To present separately: i. those items of OCI that might be reclassified subsequently; and ii. those items of OCI that will not be reclassified subsequently.
3. Profit or loss is a key performance measurement tool and Earnings Per Share (EPS) calculations are based on this alone and not on Other Comprehensive Income
4. The commonly suggested attributes for differentiation between profit or loss and OCI (realised/unrealised, frequency of occurrence, operating/non-operating, measurement certainty/uncertainty, realisation in the short/long-term or outside management control) are difficult to distil into a set of principles. However there are general guidelines set out by the IASB.
5. So with respect to UBA’s result, those items presented in OCI may - as already stated on the report - be reclassified into profit and loss on the FY2016 reports which would then result in a much higher EPS than usual. This remains to be seen anyway.
6. I think GTB was counting on this freedom of presentation of it's reports as explained in point 1 above and the tendency for people to focus primarily on the bottom line, to present all it's income for the period under profit and loss knowing the effect the high EPS will have. It is still ok as it's within their right.
This of course is not a buy or sell recommendation, just something to bear in mind for those interested when perusing reports of BaOFI Bros, Thanks for the clarification... I think one bank is taking advantage of the reporting loop hole.. the other just been strategic.. UBA is probably setting it's self up for potentially better result for (EPs) at year end. GT bank under pressure to stay thru with their brand. The other banks, thinking of what to do. Most times Q3 gives an indication of how good the Q4 will eventually be, portfolio mangers will be deciding where to invest now for dividend and capital appreciation. Good luck people. K |
Investment › Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by kentoto: 11:01am On Oct 20, 2016 |
People,
Let wait and see more bank results... Before we say one bank is better than another,
..and again each bank has its fan club.
- let's note the raising impairment across board - note also the Q on Q increase
- most of their income is coming from revaluation and not core banking functions.
- most of the banks are just covering up, they are gonna raise fresh capital next year
