Maybe because that's more than enough for us? Show me any European country that has wasted money on twin tracks when technology can be used to seamlessly run 2 way train traffic on one line!! That will be pure wastage of resources while compromising the quality of other facility aspect.
The Kenyan rail system has an interchange system that is advanced and intelligent enough to enable one track to be in use.

Let me enlighten you about something about the new discovered oil in Kenya. At the very first instance we were so excited after its discovery but now deep down we abhor the day it was found. The disquiet over the current oil discovery is a deep fear by every individual Kenyan that it will be the beginning of turmoil, corruption, greed, environmental degradation, conflict and incessant politicking. Oil is the root of all evil in Africa and i feel Kenya needs to avoid this oil curse. Look at what oil money is doing to the gulf arab nations, funding terrorism(Saudi Arabia, Qatar), funding regime change(Syria, Yemen).

I think you're confusing 1) by-pass and 2) Inter-change. I think by-pass start from somewhere before eldoret - Cheplaskei - then emerges in railway junction Leseru/Juakali.

Woah - the road reserve must be huge. Eldoret really need the by-pass. I don't there has been any progress there.

There are 2 by passes that are in progress... 1 at the junction near Moi University & Cheptiret and the other one at the Eldoret-Kitale-Uganda rd at Maili tisa junction. The reason why the latter is progressing in due time is because the land sits on Eldoret barracks land and no issues of land compensation has delayed it. It will be completed due this year.

Busia is a nondescript town at the Kenya-Uganda border. Why should we make comparisons with a small urban setting with less than 50k population? Imagine Nakuru & Eldoret are barely 250K or not - that is like 6 times less than population of Owerri - and they look light years ahead of that Slumpolis Owerri. I saw the highlight is some roundabout.

Kisumu with 0.5M - about 1/3 of Owerri looks way better.

I really hate the notion Nigerians have when it comes to comparing countries and belittling them. UAE is light years ahead of Nigeria but their most notable cities are Dubai and Abu dhabi. The 2 cities are 90% foreigners while the common UAE citizen has almost zero investment and in comparison to population almost 0.01% of Nigeria's population. The pictures above of Eldoret in its growth stage is pretty impressive putting in mind the active population around town is less than 300k. The town is experiencing a boom in business and credited to 99% of local investment.

Reason why Nigeria is sliding back massively... Nigerians have a misplaced pride when it comes to social issues but economically the poorest of the poor. Kenya has chosen strategic partners("modern colonialists" as you call them) that have partnered with the government in key areas that economically benefit the citizens.
