Hello Friends, Back on Big Data matter: Today’s consumers are a tough nut to crack. We look around a lot before we buy things because with the present economic reality, nobody wants to make a mistake. We browse several websites for comparisons in case of online purchases, talk to our entire social network about our purchases especially when it is a poor choice, demand to be treated as unique customers and want to be sincerely thanked for buying your products or using the services you are providing. Tasking right? The good news is : You can be that Super business and do all of these effortlessly as Big Data allows you to profile these increasingly vocal ‘business kings and queens’ in a far-reaching manner so that you can engage in an almost one-on-one, real-time conversation with them. This is not actually a luxury. If you don’t treat us like we want to and even exceed expectations in some cases, most will leave you in the blink of an eye when they get something just a little bit better than what you have to offer. Using myself as an example here: I had a child more than 3 years ago and my child’s pictures are on my social media platform. The e-mail I used in opening my social media accounts is same with the email I used for my bank accounts. Surprisingly, till date, no one has marketed the benefits of opening Kids Savings account to me. Not even one bank and my child doesn’t have a child account yet. This applies to other products banks have to offer but eligible people are not aware they exist because the links have not been made. When any customer enters a bank, big data tools allows the bank staff to check his/her profile in real time and learn which relevant products or services (s)he might advise. This applies also to other businesses that are not fully exploring their customer’s social activities. So much can be attributed to our not uniting the digital and physical data yet, a gap in targeted marketing and one that should be closed as soon as possible. Big Data allows you to know your customers well enough to be proactive in product advertisements and services being offered. Big data lets you be intimate enough you know when your esteemed customer just checked in at a location and the services you can quickly propose or suggest. Big data helps you open more business doors and explore more opportunities……. More ways big data can help businesses in Nigeria will be posted on this thread. Let's make Nigerian businesses data driven and enjoy better services. |
Very great topic. Now that we have the figures, how do we turn it into Information? To know who these followers are, what they do, when they do stuffs and where they are? How can we use this information to boost our businesses? An example is: Someone following Genevieve, Omotola,Rita Dominic can safely be termed a female that loves movies and fashion. What products and services can be sold to this twitter follower? How do we capture this twitter follower's attention and make him/her our value- customer? What promo can we offer that suits this twitter follwer's taste? If we have someone following Tiwa Savage, P Square, this individual is most likely to be a music fan. How about if we extend this to politics, FMCGs, Telecomms, Sports? This further shows us peoples preferences. Research has shown that when people follow brands/celebrities on twitter, they actually admire them, aspire to be like them or have businesses with them because it is completely voluntary information provided by such individuals. Let's use the facts provided on this thread to build customer-centric solutions. While the ethnic banter between yorubas and ibos continues to be funny and entertaining, some posts are much more deeper. It depends on your view. |
YourLeader:You are so so right YourLeader. There are so many things that can be done using data Science. I just built a predictive model for a telemarketing company in SA where their historical datasets were analysed and meaningful recommendations to assist in increasing number of sales of products made. Also talking with a bank now that have just started their digital banking exercise so we can explore how Data Science will help strengthen risk management in areas such as cards fraud detection, financial crime compliance, credit scoring, stress-testing and cyber analytics. Also looking at how to predict which ATM machines/ branches get cash shortage to prevent that as much as we can and make customer experience better. so so excited! |
Waoh! Waoh! Waoh! Finally! Data Science is here in Nigeria. This is such a great news! i started a thread on data analysis sometime last year - https://www.nairaland.com/2607995/data-analysis-offer-companies#38147275 and met lots of people who were interested afterwards. |
@ dannypalatino, my email address is temifadare@gmail.com |
Hello Dlex21, I am so glad you have taken the first step. Data Scientists are already kings but just outside the country. Coursera is a great place to learn. I learnt there too when i was just starting. Any question you have on any topic, dont hesistate to ask me. I am happy to help. I was helped too before i got to this point and no question is stupid. |
Hi dannypalatino, Even though that wasnt in my plans, its so good to hear that. Its so much work and its also so much fun and i will be happy to teach as much as i can. There are different skills to be developed in data science : R programming Language or Python -This would make you build models and train models. Hadoop Ecosystem - For working on large and unstructured data that sql cannot be applied Text Analytics - This will be useful in Sentiment Analysis, Natural Learning Language. I would suggest you read through them first, then explaining or showing how it works would be easier. |
I love building models that explain the past, predict the future and give insights to what gives the business an edge. I find data irresistible, believe data have hidden keys, get my hands dirty searching for patterns in data and afterwards tell the data story for smart actions to be taken. I am a Data Scientist and identifying reliable and useful information providing a competitive asset for businesses is my passion. However, currently out of contract and back home to Nigeria, It is sad to see Data Analytics is still struggling to be recognised here in Africa while others have used its power to turn things around intelligently. This should not be, especially in Nigeria where we are supposedly ‘big brother’ to all other African countries. I want to show people the power of making informed and proactive decisions using data that are being under-utilized or not used at all but actually are gold mines. If your business is in Lekki/Ajah axis, whatever type of business it is (retail, manufacturing, services…) and you have data or records in any form, (online or offline), let me show you patterns you have overlooked in your business that will give you an advantage over your competitor. It’s absolutely free of charge for five people please. For me, I get to keep busy with real data instead of working on data gotten online, give back the little I can to my society and introduce more people to the world of big data analytics, machine learning and optimization. NB: This is for serious minded people only because its going to be a lot of work but the picture you will have of your business afterwards, you will wish you had done this earlier. |
Hi Quant, I have sent you a private mail . I am a data scientist with advanced skills in machine learning. Kindly reply so I can send some of my works and cv to you. Thanks. |
Hello house, kindly post available data science /big data jobs. Thanks a lot. |
I was at Unilag to collect mine yesterday. Got it in less than 20 minutes. I also observed that there were plenty PVCs that were there and people were not there to collect. Thinking about it now, most people that registered when they were students might have moved to other states, is there any way they can collect theirs without coming down to where they registered? let us assume some people can't find their PVCs, the people that haven't gone to collect theirs are even more. How do we work together to help INEC get this distributed? We have to do more than this Internet campaign to get what we really want. NB: I came to mainland with my hubby to collect our PVCs. We dedicated yesterday to that. |
AroOkigbo:You actually planned to travel out on Wednesday? Knowing election was scheduled to hold on Saturday? Good citizen. Now u are shouting no pvc. When the least of your duty to your nation you are not willing to carry out. Pvc ko, tvc ni! |

sandzphield:Even a young able -bodied man would sleep after long hours without resting. We don't know how long he has been awake. Can u honestly confirm that you haven't slept where u are not supposed to before? Eg classroom... free him abeg. |
It must really be sad not to have control over a situation. For all of you that are angry that a yoruba man married an igbo lady,I feel so sorry at the plight you have found yourselves in. Its a pity you can't change things. Bisoye has married his sweetheart and here you are, angry over it. Unfortunately, this won't be the last time a yoruba guy will marry another ripe igbo lady. One more truth that is: her fate and her happiness in marriage depends on him and there is nothing anyone can do about it. Whether she married him for love or for money, she is in the marriage already and there is nothing anybody can do again. Whatever she sees, she gets. I pray for the best for her as she starts a new phase of her life. Haters,go to bed and dream of a better life and probably a rich one next world! Congrats couple! |

hello house, I desperately need an IT job (service management) on the island - lekki, ikota, Ajah, vgc... I have a job presently and just resumed after maternity leave. We moved to the Ajah from Berger only to have my office move my unit to ojota from ikoyi 3 weeks later. I resumed a month ago but the distance is killing. I also feel for my babies (my hubby and my Lil boy) as the whole purpose of leaving mainland to work close to home has been defeated. please, I need a good paying j o b as I can't imagine leaving the whole burden for my husband with our growing family. thanks and really hoping someone helps asap. |
⌣»̶·̵̭̌·̵̭̌✽̤̈̊Ŧђɑ̤̥̈̊п̥̥̲̣̣̣kƨ̣̣̣̇̇̇̇✽̤̈̊·̵̭̌·̵̭̌«̶⌣ OP. This is indeed priceless. I've seen some points I need to work on. |
Its ok if he wants her to stop wearing trousers but we trade some things for what we truly want. He should get her very nice gowns, elegant skirts , good jeweleries that match and NEVER stop doing that. She won't mind wearing things her hubby got for her and when they are very classy stuffs and plenty, with time that will be more in her wardrobe and will constitute what her fashion style is. Actions speak louder than words. He should change things with love. |
Good afternoon nairarealman,I a♍ interested in the 3bd at Modupe Estate. Can it go for 600 and will the landlord accept a year rent? If yes, what will the total package be. Quick answer pls, ⌣»̶·̵̭̌·̵̭̌✽̤̈̊Ŧђɑ̤̥̈̊п̥̥̲̣̣̣kƨ̣̣̣̇̇̇̇✽̤̈̊·̵̭̌·̵̭̌«̶⌣ |
Ezekiel,is it still available? Also what is the place like? Is everywhere tiled? How many toilets and bathrooms? How far is it from d police station? I stay at ojodu presently but need a bigger place. |
They should do a good job at combing s/w and discovering where these evil people are. It is really disturbing that bh boys have decided to leave the north to attack somewhere else. They are really bent on continuing the senseless killings. It will really be a fatal one if it happens in Lagos as no matter where or what time of the day they choose, the number of casualties cannot be over emphasised because of the population and God forbid such. |
if its true, may his soul RIP but I sincerely hope today is not the day for him to go. |
Please God,bring him home safely. So many people are waiting for him. Parents, wife, daughter, siblings and friends. |
Billyonaire: He should shut the heck up and do his job, what is he a governor for? Why is he praising himself as if the N127m is his personal funds. The monthly allocation is from Federal Government and its meant for development of the people and their communities. Thanks but no thanks to a wife who praises herself after cooking evening food for the kids after receiving money from husband.. Y can't you appreciate something good for once? |
Welldone Gov! Please keep up the good works. But how will it not cross your mind to compute what you have spent so far? Accountability matters a lot Sir. |
Congrats Chioma. I hope you will put in your best in the two new roles God has assigned you to now. DPO and Mummy triplets. ![]() |
