alBHAGDADI:those who believe is different from sinners.... a believer might also be a sinner |
I retired to bed late yesternight after reading the news of the Chibok girls that refused to be rescued because they either became active members of Bokoharam or got married to them. My desire to take a brief glance at Bokoharam again was borne from the news released by Saharareporters Headlines via Salkida. I watched some videos of Bokoharam on YouTube too and I learnt that Bokoharam is not only brainwashing people, they are also enriching them with money in local and foreign currencies. They are also well armed and look settled. Now, the questions that perturb my heart are: 1. How come Bokoharam is so rich to such an extent that it can afford to pay her commanders up to #500,000 per month? 2. Bokoharam didn't start suddenly. It took years to become this dreadful satanic bloodsucker group. For all those years, what were the people and government of Borno doing? 3. There have been so much horrors in the northeast, civilian jtf have rightfully become as wicked to Bokoharam as Bokoharam has been to the people. So, there is possibility that another Bokoharam and another Bokoharam will always be borne. Will there ever be an end to it? 4. Underground in the videos in the free city of Borno, I saw kids carrying plate running and playing. They are Almajiris. Despite the bloodshed, Almajiris still roam the city of Borno while Bokoharam keeps recruiting and training their child-soldiers. Aren't those kids vulnerable? 5. How sure are we that all freed Chibok girls are not already indoctrinated and spying for Bokoharam? My number 5 question has to be asked because Nigeria wouldn't have released Bokoharam commanders without first trying to detoxify their crooked ideologies. Would Bokoharam release Chibok girls knowing fully well that they can be used against them? 6. How did we end up having such crazy ideologies of Bokoharam and their likes evolve from within us? Our conversation may or may not get to authorities but we can at least arm ourselves with knowledge and awareness. by Imam Idris A. Rasaq |
The Gombe State Agricultural Development Project, ADP, says that the tomato pest, Tuta Absoluta, has seriously affected tomato harvests in three of the state’s 11 local government areas. Tuta absoluta, a destructive tomato pest, ravaged many tomato farms across Nigeria in 2016 causing an astronomical increase in the market price of tomato. Abba Dreba, the Pest Control Officer of the Gombe ADP, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Gombe on Wednesday that the affected local governments were Akko, Kwami and Yamltu-Deba. “The tomato pest started ravaging tomato farms since last year but the ADP was not aware of this until this year; this is because tomato farmers in the affected local government areas were ignorant of the pest. “However, when we received the report, we went round the entire local governments of Gombe and discovered that only Akko, Kwami and Yamltu-Deba local government areas were affected. “The entire tomato farms in the three areas were devastated. This is a very serious problem because the pest is resistant to all the available chemicals and insecticides in the market,’’ he said. According to him, once the pest affects a tomato farm, it will damage everything in the farm within a week or two. Mr. Dreba called on the state government to initiate proactive measures to ensure that tomato planted in this rainy season would not be affected by the pest. “If proactive measures are not taken, tomato farmers will divert their attention to other crops because Tuta Absoluta is very devastating,” he said. Also speaking with NAN, Sunday Lah, Director, Gombe ADP Agric Extension Services, advised farmers to wait for the rainy season to be well-established before engaging in crop planting. He said this was the only way to ensure that their efforts would not turn out to be a worthless venture. Besides, Mr. Lah said that the ADP was trying to procure seeds from reputable institutions for farmers in the state. “Most at times, a farmer goes to the open market to buy seeds without knowing the source,’’ he said. As Muslims, we pray only in the name of Allah (God). We are not even allowed to pray in the name of Prophet Muhammad (S) let alone any other Prophet of God. Hence, it is important for our Christian friends to understand that we wouldn't say 'Amen' when they pray for us 'In Jesus Name'. Only ignorant or hypocritic Muslims will say Amen to any name beside the name of God. Why? It is against everything that we believe as Muslims. Therefore, courtesy demands that you pray for a people in a way that does not sound disrespectful to them. If any Christian friend intentionally prays for me in Jesus Name, I will keep mum and continue as if he hadn't pray at all. If he challenges me for not saying amen, then I will feel very disrespected. In the same way, a Muslim is also not expected to pray for a Christian in Allah's name because Christians only pray in Jesus name. To do otherwise means to disrespect their faith. Since we all have the understanding of praying in God's name, it is best for all of us (Muslims and Christians) to pray ONLY in God's name in gatherings that have both Muslim and Christian attendance. This is called mutual respect and understanding. It well help foster our relationships and understanding and our peaceful coexistence. |
After a brief lead-up that included his warning-shot one-off “The Heart Part 4” and blustery new single “Humble,” Kendrick Lamar dropped his fourth album, DAMN, late Thursday. The proper follow-up to his acclaimed To love-vendor a Butterfly — EW’s best album of 2015 — consists of 14 tracks, spans 55 minutes, and features collaborations with Rihanna, U2, Mike Will Made-It, Greg Kurstin, James Blake, and more. Though two years have passed since Lamar released Butterfly in March 2015, the 29-year-old Compton, Calif. MC hasn’t left pop culture’s spotlight. Last March, he released untitled unmastered, a half-hour collection of eight rejects from the Butterfly sessions that debuted at No. 1 on Billboard‘s albums chart. He’s also guested on songs by Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, Kanye West, Frank Ocean, The Weeknd, A Tribe Called Quest, and many more — and this Sunday, he’ll headline the final night of Coachella |

Yola - A former Nigerian governor sentenced to five years' jail for corruption has been granted bail to seek medical care after just 20 days in prison. Bala James Ngilari of northeastern Adamawa state was the first senior government figure successfully prosecuted since President Muhammadu Buhari won elections two years ago, in part because of promises to fight endemic corruption. State prosecutors objected but were overruled on Monday at the High Court in Yola, capital of Adamawa. Judge Nathan Musa ordered Ngilari's release on bail after two prison officials testified he suffered from high blood pressure and his health was deteriorating. Three weeks ago Musa convicted Ngilari of improperly awarding a $1bn contract to buy vehicles in 2015. Adamawa is one of three states worst affected by Boko Haram's Islamic uprising. news24.com |

“Truth never damages a cause that is Just” Mahatma Gandhi The Lagos State University Students’ Union will love to use this medium to inform our members and members of the general public about the unfortunate event that happened yesterday. During the Coconut Breaking Ceremony of the 21st Convocation Ceremony of our dear Citadel when the President of the Union received an information that a 500l Student – Cyril Onyeakachi – of the Faculty of Law was stabbed on Monday 20th March 2017 at Igando axis of Lagos State and died early in the morning hours of the 21st March 2017. The President was further informed that the matter has been reported to the Igando Station of the Nigerian Police Force and that the men of the Nigerian Police Force (herein referred to as NPF) are trying to bury the case and release the alleged culprit. On receipt of the information, the President of the Union alongside fifteen members of the Union left the venue of the Convocation’s coconut breaking ceremony and went to the Igando Station of the NPF to ascertain the truthfulness surrounding the rumors and ensure that Justice is done. On arriving at the Station, members of the NPF shut their gate immediately without allowing our members entry. As members were clamoring to enter the Police Station, members of the NPF Igando Station came out and engaged in the physical assault of our members and also shot at students sporadically which led to the dispersal of students present. The aftermath of this unfortunate event led to the illegal detention of the President alongside two members of the Union for no just cause at the Igando Station and they were released moments later on instruction of the Divisional Police Officer of the Station. On release, members of the Nigerian Police Force of Ojo Station came to the Iba gate of LASU to teargas our members too. It is also to be on record that our Bus was searched and vandalised in the process of the unwarranted search by the men of the NPF Igando Station. Despite all, our members were very understanding and calm and we, the executives, appreciate the trust put in us and we will ensure that Justice is delivered over the death of Mr. Cyril Onyeakachi and members of the Union that were assaulted in any way. The loss of our member is a blow to the Union. We are deeply in sorrow as a body. We commiserate with the family, friends and colleagues of the deceased. We do hope and pray that God Almighty grant the family of the deceased the fortitude to bear the loss. It is our belief that our cause is just and the Union will always defend the rights of her members. The Union is, also, ever committed to ensuring the Peace on campus is not threatened. We appreciate Femi Adeyeye, members of the University, members of Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education Students’ Union led by their President, NANS JCC and Press for their cooperation and swift response to the cause. Together, we can achieve a lot. Victoria Ascerta!!! We are Lasu, We are Proud! |
