Politics / APC Will Compensate Civil War Victims In Rivers – Amaechi by KEVIND: 8:49am On Mar 10, 2023
A former Minister of Transportation and leader of the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, has apologised to the people of Igbo ethnic nationality over the loss of properties in the state after the 1967-1970 civil war.

He said whatever they lost, including houses, would be given back to them in due course.

Amaechi said since the Igbo who left their properties in Lagos and in the North were given back, the ones in Port Harcourt should not have been an exception.

He spoke during a stakeholders’ meeting between the APC governorship candidate in Rivers State, Tonye Cole, and the Igbo community in the state,

Amaechi stated, “I am sorry for the issue of abandoned properties. I have apologised to you when I became governor and I am still apologising. We are sorry.

“In the North, the Igbo, who returned after the war, were given back their properties, but here our people seized them and called them abandoned properties.

“The second thing I did as governor was to abolish the disparity in school fees between indigenes and non-indigenes. Thirdly, I instituted a scholarship for all, irrespective of state of origin, as long as you were in Rivers State. But when I left office, the next governor cancelled that scholarship on the premise that Igbo people were benefiting from it. I employed 13,200 teachers in this state and 3,000 of them were Igbo people.”

Amaechi asked the Igbo community to be courageous and come out en masse to vote for the APC candidate during the governorship election poll.

“Anything you have lost in this state through violence, whether house or properties, please write your name and phone number and give to us. We will give them back to you,” he said.

In his speech, the APC governorship candidate Cole, pledged that he would protect the interest and business of Igbo people in the state if elected.

“The future of Rivers State and Nigeria is at stake. Democracy is about giving people the right to chose their leaders. I am one of you; Igbo blood runs in me. My mum is Igbo, my wife is Igbo; you have nothing to fear,” he said.

Earlier, the Igbo community in Rivers State donated N20m to the APC governorship campaign in the state.

This children are very funny. Which one is Nigeria land again?
Before 1914, which land existed before "Nigeria land"
Florence Shaw is now your reference point as "Nigeria land"

“Nigeria is not a nation. It is a mere geographical expression. There are no ‘Nigerians’ in the same sense as there are ‘English,’ ‘Welsh,’ or ‘French,’ The word ‘Nigeria’ is a mere distinctive appellation to distinguish those who live within the boundaries of Nigeria and those who do not” - Chief Obafemi Awolowo, 1947.

The sectional appointment Buhari did, who suffered the most since 2015 - the North.
One thing some people don't understand is few sectional appointment cannot lead to development in your region. If you like appoint Yorubas only into all the position of authority without doing the right thing in the economy, everybody will suffer except the few appointees.

In the case of Buhari, who is suffering the most - the North, despite appointing core Northerners into important positions.

Politics / Re: Commonwealth, ECOWAS Applaud Poll As Tinubu Leads With 6.3m Votes by KEVIND: 10:13am On Feb 28, 2023
kahal29:
The Chairperson of the Commonwealth Observer Group and former president of South Africa, Thabo Mbeki, yesterday said Nigeria’s 2023 general elections were “largely peaceful” despite administrative and logistics hurdles at many polling units.

Also, the ECOWAS Observation Mission described the elections as generally peaceful and transparent.
This is coming as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is so far leading with 6,300,834 votes according to results of last Saturday’s presidential election so far announced at the National Collation Centre in Abuja and as declared in 18 states collation centres across the country.

Delivering his team’s preliminary assessment of the electoral process at a press conference in Abuja, Mbeki said Nigerians were largely accorded the right to vote.

“We congratulate all Nigerians for their determination, patience and resilience displayed throughout the electoral process, “he said.

He urged all citizens to exercise patience to allow the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and its staff to conclude the results process peacefully.

“We call on all those with grievances to address disputes through prescribed legal channels.

“The time now is for restraint and continued patience as we await the final results,” he said.

He commended the commitment shown by voters despite the late arrival of election officials and materials at many polling units, technical issues with the biometric identification machines in some cases, and delays with the live results transmission system.

On its part, the ECOWAS Observation Mission described the elections as generally peaceful and transparent.

The leader of the delegation and former President Ernest Koroma of Sierra Leone, during a preliminary briefing on the elections in Abuja, said the voter turnout was low in most polling units visited.

He said most electorate composed themselves throughout the voting process.

“Vote counting and tallying processes were carried out in a transparent, simple and professional manner, in the presence of party agents, observers, and security agents in the daytime in some polling units and with lamps in others, where voting was delayed,” he added.

While commending the INEC for ensuring a hitch-free exercise, he, however, noted that there were pockets of violence in some states of the federation during the election.

“Most polling officials and ad hoc staff demonstrated inadequate knowledge of their duties, especially with voting materials. The set-up of most of the polling units visited did not adequately protect the secrecy of the voting process,” he also said.

Politics / Simon Ekpa: Finnish Govt Not Doing Anything —Igbo Community In Finland by KEVIND: 3:56am On Feb 23, 2023
The Igbo community in Finland has lamented the silence of the Finnish Government on the activities of Igbo dissident and leader of autopilot arm of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Simon Ekpa even after the community laid a complaint to the Finnish General Assembly and the European General Assembly.

The chairman of the Igbo community in Finland, Kingsley Orji said the community has dragged the outlaw to the Finnish government to stop his utterances and directives to his followers in southeast Nigeria but nothing has come out of it yet.

“We are aware he is causing problems in Nigeria and we have laid complaints but they are telling us about his human rights. He was to appear before the European General Assembly last Friday but he didn’t and nothing was done to him.

“Simon Ekpa is a politician here in Finland and he belongs to a political party. And we are talking about a man who openly canvasses for arms and ammunition to be supplied to him.

“To tell you the truth, we don’t know what he does exactly or says exactly to the people in Nigeria that makes them obey him foolishly. But he believes he is fighting a cause. I will advise the people the Igbo in Nigeria to go about their businesses and on election days, go and cast their votes.
“What baffles me is that governors of these southeast states allow someone outside Nigeria to control what is happening in the states they govern. Are they not the chief security officers of these states? Are they going to fold their hands and do nothing? Simon Ekpa is living peacefully here just like the other 400 Igbo who are also citizens of Finland. I am a citizen too and if Ekpa is living here and causing problems in the southeast of Nigeria. It should be taken seriously and acted upon.
“I don’t see anything happening to him from this end because they respect human rights here and activism is allowed but if terrorism is what he is practising in Nigeria, then that should be tackled seriously. We have pushed him here for the government to tackle but I don’t see government doing anything. But something can be done from Nigeria. The governors of the southeast should stand up and defend their territory if they see him as a threat.”

Politics / CAN, PFN Disown Alleged Obi’s N2bn Mobilisation Largesse by KEVIND: 8:38am On Feb 13, 2023
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) have distanced themselves from an alleged financial donation by the presidential candidate of Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, for support and mobilisation of votes ahead of the coming presidential election.

A petition purportedly written by Frank Onwumere of Dominion Centre International, Owerri, Imo State, and addressed to CAN President, Daniel Okoh, alleging that N2 billion was provided by Obi during the yuletide season to CAN, PFN and Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) for disbursement to churches and some popular pastors and Catholic bishops for the purposes of support, but was hijacked and shared by some people leaving others had surfaced on social media at the weekend.

The petition, which generated several reactions on social media, added that some churches were asking for a visiting fee of about N50 million and above from politicians, particularly Obi, so as to ask their congregation to vote for him during the presidential elections.

PFN Vice President, John Praise, in a telephone interview with Daily Sun, asked Nigerians to disregard the petition as it’s nothing close to truth.

“Besides, the man whose name was used to sign the petition, Onwumere, has come out to disown the petition and had distanced himself from the petition,” he said.

CAN Director of National Issues, Stephen Adegbite, also told Daily Sun that he wasn’t aware of the petition, but there’s nothing close to truth regarding the petition.

He said: “We held a meeting of national officers of CAN last Thursday and nothing of such was neither mentioned nor discussed at the meeting. So, Nigerians should disregard the said petition. It’s possibly the work of mischief.”

John Hayab, a senior official of northern CAN, also confirmed that such engagement or discussion with Obi, never happened.

“This is totally a mischief and effort of some might want to heat up the polity unnecessarily ahead of the fast approaching elections. Whoever is making this allegation need his or her head checked properly,” he said.

He maintained that CAN has remained apolitical and has not pitched tent nor asked Christians to vote for any candidate. CAN has only maintained its stand against Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket as presented by the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“We have informed Christians that 17 political parties have presented presidential candidates. So, everybody is at liberty to choose any candidate that he or she is convinced that has good intentions for Nigeria,” he said.

Meanwhile, Okoh said he’s not aware of such money given to churches to mobilise votes for any presidential candidate nor received the said petition dated, December 22, 2022.

He said: “As a faith-based entity, CAN non-partisan and will neither endorse nor mobilise support for any candidate in the coming elections as against the social media post being circulated by some elements.”

He urged Nigerians to disregard the purported petition as its content is untrue and malicious, and warned those peddling the falsehood to desist from such acts because they are capable of defaming innocent people and revered religious institutions as well as breaching public peace.

Okoh, who was a guest at the opening ceremony of the first plenary of CBCN in Abuja, yesterday, however, confirmed there was pressure on CAN to openly endorse a presidential candidate in the coming election but it refused because CAN has members in all the political parties and cannot endorse one against the other.

“In order to provide a guide for Nigerian voters, who constantly ask the leadership of CAN to endorse a candidate so that all Christians would vote in one direction, the Committee on Politics and Strategy of CAN provided some guidelines to help voters in making informed choices.
