“It is important to state that these machines were procured six years ago, and fully functional at the time and after... This, in fact, says little of our maintenance culture, which we need to address. Maintaining public infrastructure and utility has been a major problem. Prison uniforms. Confined to cells "for 22 hours per day." It may sound like life as a convict in a federal prison. But these aren't inmates; they're immigrants, seeking asylum lawfully in the United States. Trump administration to turn away far more asylum seekers at the border under new guidance This was not the America that dozens of men expected when they crossed the US border -- some legally, some illegally -- to apply for asylum. But as the ranks of immigrant detention centers have swelled under President Donald Trump's zero-tolerance policy, asylum-seekers were sent to a handful of Bureau of Prisons sites across the country, including this one in Sheridan, Oregon. https://legitinfobase..com/2018/07/prison-uniforms.html |
A six-month-old baby boy was kidnapped, set on fire and dumped near train tracks in Louisiana last week and a woman has been charged for his death. Baby Levi Cole Ellerbe was kidnapped on July 17 after two people came to his mother Hanna Barker's trailer door just after 9pm and sprayed her in the face with what she believed was mace and took her son. Barker ran to get away after she was sprayed in the face with the substance and when she went back home, she found her infant son was missing. A search for baby Levi began immediately and, less than 90 minutes after, police were alerted to a fire nearby the railroad, where they found a badly burned six-month-old boy. Levi was rushed to Natchitoches Regional Medical Center in a critical condition but died on Wednesday from his injuries. A man escaped lynching in Bahati, Nakuru, Kenya, on Wednesday after a mob accosted him for bestiality. The owner, who had gone to the farm to harvest her crops, came back and found the man zipping up his pair of trousers. The woman descended on him with blows, stones, and sticks, leaving him with critical injuries. Don't kill me...let me surrender my piece of land to pay for the cow," Mwaura said. "I always have sex with the cow whenever I feel like because I fear girls might infect me with HIV." The man further said he is not married adding that he was overwhelmed by the urge to have sex. A pregnant woman has been sentenced to 2 years in prison for assaulting her husband's mistress. The woman, who is five months pregnant, was found guilty of hitting her husband's girlfriend with a sandal in Ghana and she was sentenced to 2 years behind bars. She has now begun her sentence, in her pregnant state. According to a Ghanaian journalist identified as Ibrahim Oppong Kwarteng, the woman’s husband brought his girlfriend to their house and allegedly gave her his wife’s cloth to put on. When the wife found out, she confronted the lady and hit her with a sandal. Ibrahim wrote: I encountered this beautiful young lady at the Nsawam Female Prison last week. She has been convicted for 2 years with a 5 months old pregnancy, and came into the prison with her one and a half year old son. Her offence? She tells me her “husband” brought in his girlfriend into the house and gave the lady her dress to wear. She couldn’t believe what was unfolding in her eyes and could not contain the humiliation. She confronted the lady and a fight ensued. In the course of the struggle, she hit the lady with a sandals she laid hands on and was jailed for assault. Since coming to prison, this so-called husband has never visited her. My appeal is for some of our judges to fully consider the overall context of events before handing down sentences. I have a feeling they are sometimes misled by the police? For how long will the Alternative Sentencing Bill which could possibly prescribe community sentences in such cases, continue to gather dust in Parliament? Shouldn’t pregnant women be given suspended sentences instead? I simply don’t understand why the Criminal Offences Act 1960 which obviously needs a review after so many years of usage continue to dictate the pace. We are all not safe! She has a fine of 1400 Ghs to pay and another 2000 for the injuries caused to her attacker, making it 3400 Ghs in all to secure her release. You may want to help! Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has warned Nigerians living abroad to be careful of the news they read about Nigeria online as 80% of them are fake. Lai said this when he met with the Nigerian ambassador to the US, Sylvanus Nsofor, in Washington over the weekend. “Fake news and misinformation when mixed with hate speech threaten the peace, unity, security and corporate existence of Nigerians. Many people in the diaspora depend a lot on Social media for news about Nigeria. However, 80 percent of what you read on social media is fake. Please, we implore you to visit our website fgnnformation.iapp where you can find information that is genuine about Nigeria. When you go by social media, the impression you get is as if Nigeria is at war and as if Muslims are killing Christians and about ethnic war. However, those disgruntled politicians have now tried to factor ethnicity and religion into the situation that we have in the country. Our challenges have nothing to do with religion or ethnicity.” Citing an example with the farmer/herders clashes, Lai said news platforms reported that the two Catholic priests killed in Benue in April were killed by hersmen but investigations have shown that they were killed by armed militia. adadike:This is coming after a mom narrated how she got pregnant for a 16-year-old toyboy lover, who is almost half her age after meeting him on Facebook – and they’re now a “happy family”. Kathleen Martin, now 32, from County Durham, began chatting to teenager Jack Fucile, now 18, on the social media site in June 2015 after he offered to help sort out her garden. After seven months together, Kathleen discovered she was pregnant – and Jack ended up delivering their baby in the bedroom when she went into labour three-and-a-half weeks early. Now their son, Jay, is nine months old, and despite the fact Kathleen already has two children from previous relationships, with only five years between Jack and her eldest, she said they all get along “really well”. She explained: “We are just one big family now and it’s really lovely. When Jay gets older we will tell him how his daddy brought him into the world – and tell him what a good job he did.” Kathleen admitted she did have reservations about dating Jack, who is 14 years younger than her and had only just left school when they met. She told how Jack’s mum Angela, who is eight years older than her, was “shocked” when she heard about their relationship. But Kathleen said it didn’t feel like there was an age gap between her and Jack, who now works as a car valeter. She explained: “Jack is really mature for his age. Despite the age difference, we got on really well.” When she told Jack she was expecting, Kathleen said he was thrilled. “Once he got over the shock, he loved the fact that he was going to be a dad,” she recalled. “My pregnancy progressed smoothly, and Jack was really overwhelmed when he saw the 20-week scan. “He was so excited, he just couldn’t wait for the baby to arrive.”

reports security lockdown to Ewi of Ado, appeals to him, other Obas to intervene .Alleges over 300 members of PDP, top aides are still clamped in detention by security agents “I have been under house arrest in govt office”, he decries Ekiti State Governor Chief Ayodele Fayose being hailed by the market women on his way to the Ewi’s Palace after the just concluded Governorship Election in Ado Ekiti today. Governor of Ekiti, Ayodele Fayose on Tuesday made his first public appearance in Ado Ekiti, state capital after the July 14 poll which produced All Progressive Congress (APC)’s Kayode Fayemi, as governor-elect. He was hailed by a huge crowd of market women, kids, aged and youths on the street of Ado Ekiti as he walked from the Oja Bisi area of the state capital to the palace of the monarch of Ado Ekiti, the Ewi of Ado, Oba Rufus Adejugbe. The crowd who showed excitement on seeing him, prayed for him and wished him well in his future endeavours. They saw him off to the Ewi palace where he reported the security lockdown in the state, particularly as it affects ts him at the government office to the monarch, urging the Ewi and other traditional rulers in the state to intervene. He still wore the neck guide which he had shortly after he alleged he was physically assaulted by security agents on July 11. Reporting to the Ewi, Fayose said: “l have come to let you know that before the July 14 election, the government house was invaded by the police and men of the Department of State Services (DSS) and the poll was rigged, over 300 of our members and top government functionaries have been arrested and clamped into detention since then. My wife was also subjected to a 45 minutes harrowing experience while entering the government house shortly before the poll. “Since the day of the poll, the government office has been shut and my security agents have been withdrawn. The July 14 poll has come and gone, and the constitution says up until Oct 16, I am still the governor. Since they have left this morning, I felt I should inform you, Ekiti people , Nigerians and international community that l am still being locked at the government office. I urge you to help tell the Federal Government and security agents and others that I should be left alone, l and my family have a right to life. The man who contested against us is being protected, but my policemen have been withdrawn. I represent Ekiti and was given a mandate of the people. Harassing me is not the best.” “My aides are being hareassed, searched, their vehicles up to spare tires and they are being searched even to their pants. I wonder why we should be in this kind of situation ahead of 2019. I want you to intervene please Kabiyesi, ” he said. Responding, the Ewi of Ado, who was almost moved to tears as he watched governor Fayose, said: “First of all I want to thank God for sparing your life and tjat up till now, there has not been casualties. Before the poll and as if we knew this was going to happen, the council of Obas met with INEC officials security operatives, party candidates and others and pleaded with all parties that before, during and after the poll, we want peace in Ekiti state, because we are homogenous, Ekiti will remain one forever and whoever wins we will accept. ” It is unfortunate that this kind of thing is happening, the way I see you today in complete black, which is against our custom in the palace. I knew something is happening. I will convey your message to the chairman traditional council of Obas in Ekiti. We had discussed you this morning and wondered where you are. We use this opportunity too to appeal to the security operatives to, in the name of God restore your security to you. Whatever it is, we are in Ekiti and they should allow us to intervene in this matter, all the three of you in the race, yourself, Professor Olusola Elena, and Dr. Kayode Fayemi are our sons. You are all our eminent sons that cannot be wished away. We urge all parties to allow peace to reign. We will also get in touch with Dr. Fayemi to use his good office to intervene, ” the monarch assured.

As the controversy trailing the purported exit of Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state from the All Progressives Congress, APC, continues to gain grounds, the Governor has described the state chapter of the party as a one-man show. Ortom The Governor made the assertion Friday in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, CPS, Terver Akase in reaction to statement credited to the APC in Benue State in which it claimed that the party raised issues of governance with Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, following which he gave himself red card. Ortom in his reaction to the statement was quoted as saying that the statement credited to the party was an exhibition of hypocrisy of the highest order. Part of the statement read, “It is on record that APC in Benue State has on many occasions, passed vote of confidence on Governor Ortom as a result of his performance. “During the State Congress of the party at Aper Aku Stadium in Makurdi, it adopted the Governor as its consensus candidate. Again, the party publicly said its decision was based on the sterling stewardship of Governor Ortom within the last three years. But being the true democrat that he is, the Governor decided that other aspirants should also be allowed to vie for the governorship seat to deepen internal democracy in the party. “We challenge APC in Benue State to bring out facts to back their claim that they had faulted the performance of the Governor. We equally challenge the party to make public evidence regarding their claims that bailout funds and Paris Club refund were diverted. “While Governor Ortom appreciates the platform which APC gave him to offer service to the people of Benue State, it is regrettable that the same party has now turned to demonize him for obvious selfish reasons. “Governor Ortom has encouraged regular caucus and other stakeholders’ meetings at which he constantly gives briefings about the security and financial challenges in the state. He also gets feedback and input at such meetings. “His successful conduct of the local government elections which APC candidates overwhelmingly won chairmanship and councillorship positions throughout the state is proof of the popularity of his administration. “There has really been no need for the party to raise governance issues with Governor Ortom because he gives the leaders and the state working committee regular briefings at meetings and platforms mentioned above. “Besides, the Governor announces to the people of the state receipts of monies and expenditures. He equally gave the people of the state information about the bailout, Paris Club refunds and all other federal government interventions and explained how they could not meet all the financial obligations with respect to payment of salaries, gratuities and pensions. “The claim by the APC that such matters were raised at the last State Congress or at a secret forum is therefore not tenable, misleading and insincere. The APC State Congress was conducted in the public domain and issues of governance were not raised at the meeting. “It may also be necessary to point out that the last State Congress was not convened for the purpose of endorsing or electing the Governor, Senators and other representatives in the state or National Assembly. It is therefore absurd for anyone to make heavy wind out of an endorsement that has no legal backing and cannot be relied upon. “At no time did Governor Ortom ever mention that the APC in Benue State gave him a red card. He stated categorically that it was the leader of the party who said at several fora that he had given him red card and the Governor made efforts to resolve the matter within the structure of the party at the state level before going public. “That APC in the state has issued the statement as if it is the leader of the party or as if they are one and the same, underscores Governor Ortom’s concern that the party structure in the state is out to satisfy the whims and caprices of one individual. “It is now clear that APC in Benue State has opted to mortgage the interest of the people of the state. The party’s unprovoked attack on Governor Ortom points to where its interest lies. “More ridiculous is the fact that APC has become a one man show in Benue State. It should be on record that the attacks on Governor are coming now because he couldn’t meet some inordinate personal ambitions and interests of those who want to perpetually shortchange the people. “The media attack on Governor Ortom by the state chapter of APC is the beginning of the smear campaign about which we alerted Benue people and other Nigerians. More of such disparaging statements should be expected in the days to come. “However, no amount of intimidation or personal attacks can make the Governor to abandon the people of Benue State. He has chosen to stand with the people and won’t be distracted now or in the future.” Source: https://legitinfobase..com/2018/07/apc-wants-to-shortchange-us-in-benue.html

A Sri Lankan man has been arrested on suspicion of feeding beer to his one-year-old son after he was caught in a viral video. In the video which went viral last week, the suspect was seen along with three friends apparently giving beer from a beer bottle to his son in Meegalewa , a village in the north-central district of Anuradhapura. The suspect was filmed feeding his bottle of beer twice to his son, while at one point, a voice could be heard in the background saying that alcohol should not be given to a child. According to Reuters, the man and his three friends were on Tuesday arrested after angry social media users called for their arrest. “Police arrested the father of the infant who fed the child something in a beer bottle and three others for cruelty to the child,” police spokesman Ruwan Gunasekera said after the video was broadcast on local television.
