Here's my scenario.

You all know the ending to the story. He was a beast and the beast got taken out. Was she justified, of course not. Like I said earlier, if she would have attacked him at the time she was being attacked it would have been a case of self defense, but she let her emotions get the best of her and now she must pay the piper. Don't worry about the sadness, all parents who love their children react the same way, they miss you right now but with time they will get over it.
Invite them over for Sunday dinners, or make sure they see you atleast once a week, make those phone calls 2 or 3 times a week, not every day because the goal is to get them independent of you much like getting a baby independent of his bottle, I'm sure you get the picture. Let them know that you love them and you needed to make this move for your personal growth and it has nothing to do with them.
By the way, I'm doing fine.
