You heard right oh. In this dwindling economy, a company named “LyrixOfAfrica.com” has sprung up with the aim to “alleviate as much economic pain as they can with the power of music”. The website is set up so that for every lyric posted and translated to English, users get points which they can later redeem to win cash prizes which currently include albums, airtime giveaways, gift cards, and different cash prizes ranging from N5,000 to N30,000. Speaking to LailasBlog directly, the creator of the site says: “We see the current economic situation and it is not pretty. LyrixOfAfrica is an idea I have had for such a long time but never implemented simply because of other commitments. However, now that there is so much good music in the air and artistes like Olamide and Phyno are becoming bigger than ever, it is clear that there is a global market for African music, especially the ones spoken in local dialect. As an avid lover of African music, I sometimes find myself singing words that I do not even know the meaning of, and I am 100% sure that at some point or another, we must have all faced the same dilemma. The point of this website is to put the power of telling and translating our stories through music in the hands of the average African man/woman. Therefore, if you know lyrics to any songs that you are currently listening to and are fortunate enough to understand the meaning of the words being sung, register on our website and win amazing prizes including cash simply for doing something you would do on a regular day. Let’s all not only listen to the music, let us understand and appreciate the music because ultimately, music is going to outlive us all and music is what is going to tell our stories for generations to come. “ The site also gives out points for commenting and registering an account. I don’t know about you, but I’m registering and on my way to translate Kukere now. Source: www.lailasblog.com/2016/06/website-which-will-pay-africans-for.html cc: Lalasticlala

On the second part of upcoming singer, Gogowe's one-month special with blogger, Jide Okonjo, Gogowe opened up about an embarrassing moment she had while shooting the music video to her single "Stand Up" which was directed by MEX. Gogowe described the embarrassing ordeal when Jide asked her saying: What was the hardest video for you to shoot? And can you tell us an interesting story you've had while being on set of any of your music videos?Gogowe then replied: The hardest video to shoot was probably “Stand Up”. We had to climb to the top of two mountains, and by the time I got to the top of each one, I was already exhausted. In the middle of shooting one of the scenes, I had a stomach upset and it was so embarrassing. I didn’t think all the fanta I drank the day before would take a toll on me. We were on the top of the mountain so there was absolutely nothing that could be done. No restroom, no nothing. lol But thank God, we were still able finish shooting the video.Eya poor girl. But couldn't she go and do her business in one of the bushes there? Also within the interview, Gogowe revealed that she has recorded over 12 songs and is currently working on an album. When asked about who she would like to collaborate with, she said: I would love to work with so many people: Wizkid, Yemi Alade, Donjazzy, Wande Coal, etc. They blow my mind.Source: http://www.jideokonjo.com/2015/10/a-month-with-gogowe-part-2-music.html#more

While speaking to Jide Okonjo in part 2 of her "A Month With Gogowe" installment on Jide's blog, upcoming Nigerian singer Gogowe opened up about how she feels about the current Nigerian music industry. Jide asked Gogowe On the topic of feminism and women empowerment, what do you think about this new era of Nigerian music where we are seeing a lot of women taking over the music scene? Also, is there any particular Nigerian female singer that you particularly like?To which Gogowe replied: I love it! We still have a long way to go because males are still dominating the industry; but we are getting there. I lot of females like myself are on the come up, so thats great! I love Omawumi and Yemi Alade. Also within the interview, Gogowe talked to Jide about the Buhari administration, working with different Nigerian directors, and more about her music and possible collaborations.
