Look at Equity Bank - coming from building society (SACCO) - getting a license and being ranked 66th out of 66 - and rising to become East and Central Africa's largest bank with total assets at 10B dollars.

They are many such banks in Kenya - starting from employees forming SACCO - and eventually converting into a bank - and growing.

Look at this bank - Family Bank - now 92 branches - few years ago it was a SACCO. It was issused a banking license in 2007 and it's total assets now approaching 1B dollars.

Christian came early. It spread peaceful as sect when Egypt and most of red sea (eritrea to somalia) was ruled by Romans (Italians/Greeks). Christianit therefore spread from Egypt down to Ethiopia - and most of current north sudan - and was adopted by some people - for 200yrs before arrival of Islam.
