First off, I don't see how this topic got on the front page. Its a needless one, but I must address the issues raised by people like Abagworo, Rhymz and a few others. I feel it is a clanish mindset when people defend blindly based on tribal sentiments, if what Mr. Emegwali has been alleged to have done is true, then the guy is a criminal. You don't appropriate academic achievements to yourself, that just tells people who have worked hard that what they have done is a total waste of time. Hardwork and recognition should come hand in hand, but when you give hardwork without recognition that is evil, and recognition without hardwork is fraud. |
@onlytruth You have a point, because politicians in Ngeria will use anythin as a weapon. But for that it would have been a welcome devt. So I will concede that point to u. |
@ Onlytruth Maybe you should do some research before posting, EFCC has done nothing new. EFCC tried screening all PDP candidates before the 2007 election. Why was Rotimi Amaechi (and another guy in the South East) unable to contest on the platform of the PDP? Why was Odilli disqualified at the PDP primaries from contesting as Yaradua's vice president? The problem is that the EFCC cannot enforce this, no law in Nigeria stipulates that you must be cleared before contesting. Having said this Nigerians however must ensure that government at the primary level is held responsible. And if you care to note, everyone is now saying the last three year of OBJ's govt was good, paid our debt, and saved some money (Which the late Yaradua has spent in maintaining govt). |
@Onlytruth You are not being sensible, is OBJ an aspirant? Or you just want to drag his name into every argument? Has GEJ been proven to be corrupt? Or u dnt know the work of EFCC? Why not ensure that your local government chairman or governor (who has more to offer in terms of governance) is held accountable? Rather than sing the same song every time. |
@Vicknesh People like you don't understand the work of government, which is to create the enabling environment with adequate programs and legislation. It is not the work of government to start companies that they cannot manage (Government should get out of business completely). Which of the stuff either Universities or refineries will not fare better if handled by private firms. They easily deceive people like you with a few projects, which are intended to siphon money. |
@Truly I totally understand yr position and your anger may be justified, considering that the south east did not much benefit from the little growth we had during the OBJ years, but you still cannot argue with confidence that OBJ was a bad president. This is a guy that made sure we paid our debts, saved 20 billion dollars within 8 years from the excess cude account. All of which Yardaua spent in 2 years, and we are now owing again (But we don't speak ill of the dead). I personally believe that OBJ made these comments to pave way for his annointed (GEJ) whic to me is counterproductive, considering the fact that GEJ seems clueless. |
OBJ was a poor politician, vindictive, sometimes ill tempered, but he still remains Nigeria's best president till date. Though some may argue that the good policies under OBJ were engineered by El-Rufai (But then U still have to credit him at least for recruiting a good hand). |
chuqudy:By their comments, u shall know them. Apparently u neva commot 4 yr village. You apparently know nothing abt Lagos. |
A very good topic, though inmy humble opinion the poster does not know what Onitsha needs. Onitsha used to be a commercial hub, the only reason why it isn't any more is simply because Nigerian products are not competitive price wise. The solution to the Onitsha (and if I may say Aba) problem is to have good power supply, high import duties especially Chinese products, and have incentives for manufacturers. |
@Nchara U are an i.diot, so have they revoked Lautech's license? Revoking the license of an institution that is yet to take off will not affect the masses (are u so dumb that you dont kno what to report again![]() |
Mine is the 119th psalm, its a praise of God's word. The psalmist appreciates God's word in this psalm with verses such as: Show me wondrous deeds out from thy word. It was good that I was afflicted, for then I learnt your statutes (ways). |
Nchara:Are u Mekus's mouthpiece? Its funny that even Mr. Fire kept quiet, but u had to rush in. I doubt if Mekus will ever forget Katsumoto. |
Cohomology: TewMuch:I think you guys are way wrong on this one, thats why its a greenfield refinery (Basically flares from the refinery will produce power). Much as I would like to bash our inept leaders, on this note its a prudent move. |

Quite a few iresponsible comments on this thread. First off, if u are in d military, u r dere to defend the nation (Nothing like sectional interests), cos fellow officers are yr brother at arms. Tribalism or ethnic sentiments will destroy any army. Just inagine having such a mindset on d frontline. Another thing I would like to reiterate is that Major Kaduna gave himself up in Tai Solarin's house (infact the road there is named after him). |
To say that the coup was led for sectional purposes is a lie. I happen to know for a fact that Major Kaduna Nzeogwu ran to Awolowo's home town in Ikenne when the coup was unsuccessful. He was actually captured in Dr. Tai Solarin's house. Obafemi Awolowo would have been the greatest beneficiary of the coup. . Before you get on my case don't forget I am not Igbo. |
Mr Ezeuche I haven't said that the British were not involved in the Israeli-Palestine conflict, but not as colonial forces (The Israeli situation was supported by NATO), we all know that the British were more sympathetic to the Arabs, but because America lent its voice to The Jews, they later supported the Jews. The issue of the Indian subcontinent is a unique one and we cannot blame the British for this as they had left India before it disintegrated (On the flip-side people like you supported the India-Pakistani situation as ideal a few months ago). You have actually raised issues that may be argued, quite unlike Dr. Ibiam who based his arguments along the line of religious sentiments (He is evidently misinformed, because unlike Americans, Europeans are largely Agnostics or Atheists). To think they or any sovereign state would shun reason and caution on the basis of ethnic sentiments is laughable. Even Syria, Egypt, Jordan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and a few enlightened Arab states will not toe that line. |
