Dell and Intel have taken the wraps off of what they claim is going to be the world’s thinnest tablet. The Dell Venue 8 7000 is just 6mm thin, which beats even Sony’s 6.4mm Xperia Z2 Tablet and Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact.



But that’s not all for this device’s differentiating features compared to the competition. It’s also got a RealSense 3D depth-sensing camera, which enables things like facial recognition, emotion tracking, 3D scanning, and 10-finger gesture recognition.

The Dell Venue 8 7000 doesn’t have a release date set just yet, but it should be on store shelves in November. Pricing hasn’t been announced, and that may turn out to be one of its biggest shortcomings – given the specs here. The tablet runs Android 4.4 KitKat and has an 8.4-inch QHD (2,560×1,600) OLED touchscreen.



It’s powered by a quad-core Intel Moorefield chip (which can be clocked between 1.6 GHz and 2 GHz). It has 16GB of storage space and microSD card support for expanding that. As you can see, its design is pretty unique, with small bezels on three sides, and a huge fourth bezel. That houses a large speaker and the aforementioned 3D camera.



The RealSense tech employed in the camera is essentially a 3D mapping engine akin to what we’ve seen in Microsoft’s Kinect. Intel says it will be featured in multiple ultrabooks, PCs, and tablets before the end of the year. On the Dell tablet, for example, it lets you change the focus of an already taken photo, and even measure objects within a picture.

US automaker Local Motors is attempting to make history by building the world's first 3D-printed car at this year's International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS) in Chicago, September 8-13, 2014.
The vehicle, named the Strati, will be printed over 44 hours then rapidly assembled by a team led by Local Motors with the historic first drive set to take place the morning of Saturday, September 13.

Using direct digital manufacturing – the first time it has been used to build a car – Local Motors will 3D-print the bulk of the vehicle. It should be noted that mechanical components, like battery, motor, wiring, and suspension will be sourced from a variety of suppliers, rather than printed, and will be added to complete the vehicle and have it up and running. The Strati uses just 40 parts; Local Motors claims a typical, conventional car has over 20,000.
Local Motors is hoping the Strati proves the viability of using sustainable, digital manufacturing solutions in the automotive industry, and plans to launch production-level 3D-printed vehicles that will be available to the general public for purchase in the months following the show.
In 2010 3D printing company Stratasys and engineering firm Kor Ecologic unveiled the Urbee at the 2010 SEMA car show in Las Vegas. The Urbee featured a 3D-printed shell mounted on a more traditional metal chassis.

The Samsung Gear VR debuted last week at IFA and is Samsung’s foray into the world of virtual reality. It’s in partnership with Oculus, the team behind the best known VR headset on the market. Samsung already has game devs lined up to develop content for the Gear VR and the Galaxy Note 4 to power it.



Here’s an infographic that will introduce your to just what the Gear VR does.

The Gear VR uses a Galaxy Note for its display and its brain – a 5.7″ QHD screen (more importantly 515ppi) and either a Snapdragon 805 or an Exynos 5433. The pixel density is most important since the screen is barely inches away from your eyes and you’re viewing it through lenses.

The lenses can be used to correct the focus, which is great for those who wear glasses (which obviously won’t fit under the headset). Gear VR also has a proximity sensor to tell when you put it on and offers 96° field of view.

For comparison, the Oculus Rift Development Kit 2 uses a Galaxy Note 3 display (386ppi) and offers 100° field of view.

Anyway, you can expect to view immersive 360° videos as well as play games on the Samsung Gear VR. Note that you’ll have to provide your own headphones and the headset only supports the Galaxy Note 4.

And I believe it's a Chinese product as well because it does not run d bb10 os, rather it runs strictly android 4.3 os which is definitely not possible on d bb10,d bb10 just has d capability of running android games ND apps cos of d android runtime embedded in it.i have a friend who actually has dat type of z10 and it was so surprising to me cos I compared it wit mine. the one I saw was not china at all.this was an abdroid OS even installed games OS and before u quote me I knw Z10 can install android apps and games that's by updating 10.2 but it can't install apps and games that require google login something like google +,plants vs zombies and others.but this one was different.it cud browse playstore,install the apps and games that require google login

samsard: Z10 runs on BlackBerry OS10-10.3.**** if it runs 4.3 whatever, its a Chinese clone with similar looks but different internal hardware and software! although it is able to run most android apps, an original Z10 is not a DROID, only an QNX based OS10 with android runtime on it (like running a Java emulator on a Windows PC)
