Celebrities / Chocolate City Gets A Court Injunction Against Brymo by kilo88: 5:36pm On Oct 23, 2013
Oh OK, now I see the reason for Brymo's tweets yesterday. He literally can't work as an artist until he sorts himself out with Choc City. Apparently his former record label Chocolate City through their law firm, L & A legal Consultants on Monday October 21st got an injunction against him, 'restraining him from recording, releasing, distributing any composition, song, musical works or carrying out any activity as a recording or performing artist through or for the benefit of any person or organisation other than Chocolate City pending the determination of the suit against him.

Chocolate City says Brymo's contract remains valid until 2016. Brymo is too talented not to work... please y'all should sort this out

Celebrities / My Frustration As A Musician--- Baba Fryo by kilo88: 4:38pm On Sep 27, 2013
Denge Pose crooner Baba Fryo is still around, very much around. Our reporter recently caught up with him in Tedi Village in Ojo Local government area of Lagos and what could you expect? One of Ajegunle’s finest bared it all. Excerpts:
WHAT is happening to Baba Fryo?
I am living a very simple life and trying to re-arrange myself since my last record label O’jez Music, frustrated me. I am trying to pick up myself again. If you listen to Peter Tosh in one of his songs he said: “I got to pick up myself, dust myself up, and start all over again.” So, I just want to start all over again as if I have not done music at all. I have some beautiful tracks right now. I will release one on air as a single.
What do you mean exactly by being frustrated?
My album was delayed for three years. Is that not frustration? Already I have taken my mind off music. I was made to feel as if I am no longer doing music again. He didn’t make me feel as if I am still in the industry.
What were the terms of the contract?
For me, I refused to sign any contract when time has been far spent. It took them three years to draft a contract as against when I started with them spanning one to three years. You are now asking me to sign a contract. I am not a baby in this industry. That is why today, artistes pay for their songs to be on CD compilation and also pay the marketer to sell their music. The music industry is already corrupt. It has cancer for now.
yo
COSON is paying royalty. Are you a member?
People that are being paid now are members of COSON. I am not a member of COSON but a member of MCSN. MCSN and all others are having issues. They don’t have time to look for money. Everything about our royalty is pending. While I was there, they usually give us something no matter how small. I used to be a member of PMRSN, that is the former COSON.I left because they were not working well.
How many albums do you have?
I have three. I am working on the fourth one.
What happened after you released , “Notice Me” and why Notice Me?
Notice Me is about people who are full of themselves. You know my music affects the lives of people positively. Before the ‘Notice Me song’, there were a lot of braggarts who pretended to be what they were not. When people travel and return from abroad you know how they intimidate people around here .
It was rumoured that the song was an attack on Daddy Fresh?
Well, I will not say it was an attack on Daddy Fresh. In my first song, I said , ‘I want to throw a stone and anybody the stone meets, that’s his own problem. It is a conscience. If you are engaged in ‘notice me’ and I play that song, it will affect you. Many musicians attacked me when I released the song. I will not mention names but they know themselves. Those who put earrings on their noses, ears, tongues, stomachs, everywhere, they attacked me seriously. I give thanks to God for the inspiration. Everybody has what influences what they do. People feel the kind of songs I compose and I am happy because when I did ‘Denge Pose’, it really affected people positively .
It was rumoured that you made so much money but lavished it, living in hotels?
That is iniquity. I lived in a hotel but I didn’t pay a dime. It was while I was living in the hotel that I thought of buying a land. The first land I bought was two plots. When I realized I didn’t like the area, I decided to sell them and bought other lands at Okoafo and Amuwo. Living in a hotel to me is a worthwhile experience. I experienced many things .It is not every cloth that is dried in the sun. I spent and I’m still spending. But I don’t spend anyhow. I still give thanks to God.
What was your experience?
You will see the case of a nursing mother with her baby coming to the hotel to sleep with an old man using a walking stick. I have seen some men with pregnant women. Not that the owner of the hotel supports these things , he dares not see it. Some would come with their child, give the child biscuit and leave him at the reception while they climb upstairs for the amorous romp even in a very hot afternoon. I saw many iniquities.
Denge Pose, was said to be an attack on Showkey?
Like I said, anybody who thought I was referring to him, then I was referring to him.
What is your relationship with Daddy Showkey now?
We are best of friends. We have talked about the past and realised we have made our mistakes. If we had been working together right from time, I think many Ajegunle artistes would be more successful today. Now that we are working together things are bound to improve for our people.
What do you think about Majek Fashek?
I wasn’t close to Majek. Some individuals are saying his problem is spiritual. You cannot ask a sick person to tell you what is wrong with him. He cannot. If you ask Majek, he would tell you its spiritual. I think Majek needs to go back in timeto correct his mistakes, his lifestyle.
You have been in music for sometime but some younger guys have taken over. Do you honestly think you can still make a great comeback?
I believe hundred per cent that I will come back with my own pattern. Let me tell you something, some people believe that you must play what these boys are playing before you can make it. No, I disagree. Play something that people will accept. Once people accept what you play, that is all. I listen to the music they play these days and discovered they are old pattern. It’s just a small touch that is added. Listen to Flavour. The beat is old, it is the tempo that has been increased. Even the woman that sang ‘Ko si Oba bi re’, is not different from the normal gospel music that was being played in the past. How can Baba Fryo sing like all these small boys? That is iniquity.
What kind of music do you play?
I play Afro reggae beat. That is why when I sing, they would say I sing like Fela. My own pattern is not Afrobeat. If you say Fela did not sing like someone, we were not his age mates when he was alive. We may not know who was Fela’s mentor or who he sang like. Somebody must imitate somebody.
In other words, Fela influenced your going into music?
Not only Fela. Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, and Manu Dibango also influenced me.
Do you agree that you are one of those who started lewd songs with Johnny Waka?
No. I disagree because many people have been singing it. What would you say about Fela?
Are you a member of the Jehovah witness as your wife is?
I am everywhere. What I mean is that I stand apart to observe things. I always attend ‘Jehovah Witnesses’ preaching because it is very educative. They don’t go after your money. They don’t need your money. Some pastors call them vendors. If they sell the book, I will be buying it. I have investigated many churches and found out that many of them are full of iniquity. Many exist to exploit people. They have turned all Christ taught upside down. They twist the Bible to suit their own interest. If they have not collected tithes and offerings repeatedly, they are not satisfied. I call them fancy pastors.
What do you do aside music?
I sell lands. I am an Estate agent though I still perform my shows. I just came back from a show in Abuja .
Among the younger ones, which one do you think can last long on the scene?
I think P-Square is good. Those boys are good entertainers. They show other artistes example to follow. Secondly, I think Tuface is trying but I pick P-Square.
When are we expecting your next album?
Wait, you will hear my single this year even my mother is insisting that I sing in my native dialect. So expect to listen to my single in my native dialect with pidgin English to spice it up. It is called, Kpokrikpo.
Since you left AJ, it has not remained the same. Why?
It cannot remain the same because it’s like the pillars have left. We put structures on ground but the people handling it are not doing so well. All of them are following the same pattern which is not good and I was saying this thing when it started. If you listen to Daddy Showkey, you would know it is Showkey. If you listen to Baba Fryo, you would know it is Baba Fryo.
Ditto to Daddy Fresh, Nico Gravity, China Ray. Apart from Fleckterman who is different, many people followed Femi Oritse style. They want to play like Femi Oritse. So Ajegunle music began to go one way. I was in Ikorodu where they were playing all these Nigerian hip hop music and one lady got annoyed and said they should remove the Ajegunle music because it sounded the same. But our own songs back then were not sounding the same. We laid the foundation but they did not follow it.

Celebrities / Photo: Football Star Lionel Messi Arrives In Court For Tax Fraud Case by kilo88: 3:03pm On Sep 27, 2013
The four-time FIFA footballer of the year Lionel Messi and his father Jorge arrived in a Spanish court this morning Friday September 27th to answer charges of alleged tax fraud. Messi and his father are being accused of hiding over £3.4 million by filing incomplete tax returns from 2006 to 2009.

The charges against father and son was lodged by a state prosecutor in June 2013 claiming that they tried to conceal earnings from Messi's image rights - charges they both deny.
"I never take care of that (tax) stuff myself and neither does my father," Messi said in July. "We have our lawyers and our wealth managers to take care of that and we trust them and they will sort this out. The truth is I don’t have a clue about all this and that is why we have people taking care of it."
The argentina striker has already paid the Spanish authorities the unpaid tax he's owing plus interest (he paid £4.2m) but because tax fraud is a serious offense in Spain, he still has to make an appearance in court where the courts will determine whether the case is pursued any further. Hopefully it will all end today!

Celebrities / How To Achieve Instant FAME In Nigeria by kilo88: 1:25pm On Sep 25, 2013
Achieving fame in Nigeria is not such a hard job if you know the easy ways of achieving it instantly. Hard work, excellence, dedication, talent, knowledge and skill are no longer the only means to gaining fame in Nigeria as the case may be. This is significantly an indictment on our society.

Be it fame, notoriety or popularity in a positive light, the fundamental thing is that you are known; Nigerians discuss you in pubs and gatherings, on social media and in their daily interactions. In consonance with this, the Oxford dictionary meaning of fame as “the state of being known and talked about by many” is what is intended here. In that gamut, if you are tired of nestling in oblivion and dark obscurity, this article points the ways of gaining instant fame in Nigeria that some Nigerians have explored and are today basking in the cumulus of their “celebrity” status. However, readers beware! This is satiric, and not an encouragement of the pursuit of fame without values, ideals, scruples or ethics.

As a matter of fact, the most viable but sinister means of gaining quick, easy fame in Nigeria is to insult the President. I tell you, many have done this and are cruising in a celebrity roller-coaster. They are quoted as authorities on public affairs, economic issues, legal matters and other subjects. In fact, on every matter as long as it is related to Nigeria and the government, they are experts. Such is the height of their fame. They usually go by these distinguished appellations, public affairs analyst, public affairs expert, consummate public matters strategist and commentator, expert on governmental and Nigerian affairs as well as other high and vain designations.

To achieve fame by insulting the President, you must be masterly in your choice of words. Words like “clueless” and “shoeless” are the inventions of persons who are already in the “Insult the President Hallowed Hall of Fame.” And are trite. So you must be creative and invent new insults that will ring. That is if you are determined to achieve quick fame, and be quoted as an authority on issues concerning Nigeria. You may extend the insult to his wife, instead of Dame you call her lame for her English. Your words will go viral on social networks and blogs. You may even attract the attention of the opposition, who knows. Your meteoric rise has just begun!

Another way to achieve fame in Nigeria is by being an “ethnic warrior”. By ethnic warrior, I mean a virulent tribal jingoist. It does not matter if you know the history of your people or not. Your object is to gain fame. And to do that, you must cut down or speak unkindly of other ethnic groups. You must have a fertile imagination good enough to fabricate stories that will appeal to the emotions of your race and not their reason. For example, tell them that other ethnic groups are responsible for all their problems, and that they must annihilate those ethnic groups before they can make progress. Before you know it, you become an ethnic champion and a headache to other ethnic groups. The attempts by a melange of bitten persons of other ethnic groups to counter and debate your vitriolic statements will balloon your profile and give you fame as quick as cooking noodles in boiling water. It has worked for some Nigerians who are now classed as nationalists, and in that respect have achieved celebrity status.

Again, if you are bent on becoming (in)famous in Nigeria for whatever reason, then you must be ready to do the derring-do. Whatever, it is that you do, if you end up on the EFCC wanted list, you have become (in)famous. The EFCC looking for you alone is a sign of class. That guarantees you space in newspapers, social networks and blogs. You have become a big fish! “Eja nla”! In addition, for you to find a spot on the prestigious EFCC list that contains names of the “high and mighty” who are being investigated for different reasons is no small feat. In fact, it has become a somewhat free publicity tangent to be on the EFCC crime or wanted list as it is now a sign of “arrival” in affluence and political relevance. If you steal big, that is billions, your name will ring louder, and you will probably get a light sentence after which you can enjoy your “spoils”, but if you steal small, like doing “Yahoo-Yahoo” you will probably still remain in obscurity, and may get severe punishment. The former heads of some Nigerian banks, politicians, government officials and affluent Nigerians who have walked down the EFCC road know this. So you have to determine how to get to the till where the billions are.

These are the three ways of gaining instant fame in Nigeria. If there are more ways that you know, please be free to share with me. Yours truly has been in dark obscurity for too long.

Celebrities / Highest Paid Nigeria Hip Hop Artistes And Their Current Charges by kilo88: 12:11pm On Sep 25, 2013
The Award-winning singing duo, Peter and Paul Okoye famously known as P-Square are the highest paid hip-hop artistes right now, ENCOMIUM Weekly findings have revealed. The Okoyes are currently charging between N9 and N10 million for a show within Nigeria.
Apart from information gathered from the source close to the duo, independent music promoters/artiste managers also confirmed this, declaring the Koko master, D’Banj as the second highest paid artiste. The DB Record boss charges between N6 and N7 million as a standard show fee.
“Before the split of Mo’Hits, it used to be D’Banj. When D’Banj was charging between N7 and N8 million, P-Square’s fee was N5 million”, a veteran music manager affirmed, adding, “Right now, it’s P-Square.”
The afro-pop king, 2Face Idibia is the third highest paid. Although, 2Face’s performance fee has not been consistent, it’s within N5 and N6 million.
Industry sources told ENCOMIUM Weekly that 2Baba, as he’s fondly addressed, easily adjust fees because of the love he has for fans. “I agreed that he’s the third because he loves what he knows how to do best than the money. He’s man of the people and he loves to reach out to the people. He’s always happy when he’s on stage.”

Star Boyz owner, Wizkid, who stormed the industry three years ago, rose to become the fourth highest paid music star, collecting between N4 and N5 million. Although, the Jaiye Jaiye artiste has not featured in any big show in recent times, he also told ENCOMIUM Weekly in a recent interview that he charges N4 to N5 million.
Female singer, Omawumi Megbele is the highest paid female star. She collects N3 million alongside some male artistes, including Flavour, Timayah and the rave of the moment, Olamide. Others are Darey Art Alade, Duncan Mighty, and Chocolate Music artistes, M.I and Ice-Prince.
The likes of Kukere crooner, Iyanya, Davido, Wande Coal and Tiwa Savage are in the league of artistes that go for N2.5 million, while D’Prince, Dr.Sid and one time highest earning artiste, 9ice collect N2 million respectively.
Aside artistes that still receive less than N1 million, Naeto C and Waje’s fee is N1.5 million.
“Basically, each artiste has a standard fee for gigs, concerts but for private parties such as birthday, wedding, etc, it varies. Some people would call for reduction simply because they are individuals, not brands. It depends on the artistes whether to accept or not. What I know is that it’s always fixed”, said an artiste manager.

1- Psquare – N10million
2- D’Banj - N 8million
3- 2Face – N6million
4- Wizkid – N5million
5- Omawumi, Darey, Duncan Mighty Olamide, Timayah, Flavour, M.I, Ice-Prince – N3 million
Others…
6 - Iyanya, Davido, Wande Coal, Tiwa Savage – N2.5 million
7 - 9ice, D’Prince, Dr. Sid – N2 million
8 – Naeto C, Waje – N1.5 million
