Yesterday, President Buhari laid a wreath at the mausoleum of Turkey’s founding Father Mustapha Kemal Ataturk in Ankara.

This was part of activities line up for the President who is on an official visit to Turkey where he would attend the Developing-8 summit today.

A couple have been sentenced to several months in prison in Tunisia after they were caught naked in their car.


Nassim Ouadi, a 33-year-old French-Algerian, and his 44-year-old Tunisian girlfriend were sentenced on Wednesday by a judge at the Carthage district court, having been convicted of public indecency, intoxication and insulting a public official.

According to their lawyer, Ghazi Mrabet, the couple were driving last Friday when they pulled over in Gammarth, a suburb of the capital, Tunis, to discuss the route.

“After two minutes, a police car arrived, and asked the couple for their IDs,” the lawyer said in a statement posted on Facebook.

The woman handed over her ID from her handbag, but Ouadi, who does not speak any Arabic, went to get his passport from his suitcase, which was in the boot of the car.

“The policemen shouted at him, insulted him and forced him to the ground. He handed over his passport, and they then searched his luggage and then the car, even under the carpets,” the lawyer added.

The couple were then taken to a police station, but after 20 minutes were told they could go home. A police officer warned them, however, that the episode would not end there.

"The Franco-Algerian, believing himself in France or in a film, then told the police: ‘You think it will stop there? I want your names and your numbers. I intend to speak to my embassy. And that's when your lives will change,’” Mrabet's Facebook statement continued.

Ouadi was then accused of contempt of a public official, indecent assault and refusal to obey the police – charges often levelled against protesters in Tunisia, or against couples publicly displaying affection.

But the couple’s arrest last week, and subsequent sentencing, has drawn widespread outrage on social media, as reports began to emerge that the couple were first approached by police as they were kissing.

According to the police, they were found "in an indecent position".

The man was handed four months in prison for "public indecency" and "refusing to obey the police", with the woman given a two-month sentence on the first charge only.

A spokesperson for the public prosecutor's office, Sofiene Sliti told AFP."It's an independent decision. What has been reported nationally and internationally is wrong, they weren't arrested for a kiss, the couple was naked," he added.

At the hearing Wednesday, the woman collapsed into tears when the court president read a police description saying a sexual act was in process when the couple were stopped on October 1 in a suburb of Tunis.

The woman said that her friend had simply taken her into his arms when the plainclothes police stopped them and made them get out of the car.

The Frenchman confirmed to the judge that he had tried to film the police to make a complaint about their behaviour.

A dozen defence lawyers had been arguing for an acquittal for the couple. The majority of the lawyers were working for free on the case, which has triggered an uproar in Tunisia over morality campaigns and police behaviour.

The defence pointed to numerous flaws in the case, including hearings in Arabic which the Frenchman, who is of Algerian origin, did not understand.

"It is normal that he reacts badly when his fundamental rights were being violated," said lawyer Ghazi Mrabet, whose client is accused of intimidating police.

He pointed to what he said was "bad faith" on the part of the police, who he said were looking for revenge after being implicated over their handling of the case.

"This case highlights key problems with the judicial system and the police. Abuse of powers... lack of respect for citizens and their rights, attacks on individual liberty," said former deputy Nadia Chaabane, who is a member of a group to support the couple.

"The problem is that we have judges now who accept all these breaches and procedural problems," she said before the judgement.

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia state says he does not know the whereabouts of the missing leader of the now-outlawed secessionist group, Indigenous People of Biafra IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu. Recall that after the September 14th 'invasion' of the Umuahia home of Kanu by military officers, his members alleged that he had gone missing. They accused the military of taking him into hostage, an allegation the military has denied. Kanu who is standing trial for treason, is expected to be in court tomorrow, October 17th, for the resumed hearing of the case.

Governor Ikpeazu while speaking to newsmen in Abuja, said it would be unfair for anyone to ask him of Kanu's whereabouts.

"I don’t think that is a fair question. I don’t have the capacity to determine where Kanu is. I have never visited him. I have never called him on phone and he has never taken me into confidence as to what he does, where he goes. So, those who are close to him would answer. I don’t have the capacity to monitor him and know where he is, maybe Journalists through investigative journalism will know.” he said

Speaking further, the governor said the people of the South-East believe in Nigeria more than any other part of the nation.

“Fundamentally speaking, I think that if the question we ask in this country today about whether there are inequalities, whether there are gaps or there are people who don’t feel that they have been fairly treated either as an individual or as a family or as a geopolitical zone, the answer is yes. There is agitation in the northeast, there is an agitation in the south-west, of course there is agitation in the south-east but I dare say that there is no other ethnic group in this country that has as much faith in the Nigeria as a country, one united country than the people of the south-east, that is why they are in Sambisa. You can count how many big businesses belonging to the southwesterners that are in Aba. You can count how many big businesses belonging to the people from the northeast, north-west, north-central that you can find in Owerri. You cannot find a four-storey building belonging to somebody from the northeast anywhere in the south-east. But if you go to Kano, you don’t count three hotels before you count that of somebody from the south east. What it means is that we are the people that have demonstrated faith in the united Nigeria'.

Continuing, the governor said "Post war experience is that everybody started receding and then we started moving everywhere and then at the end of the day, our people are beginning to feel that we are not being trusted enough with certain strategic positions despite the fact that we have demonstrated in particular times that we love Nigeria more than anybody. We have faith in this country more than anybody. That coupled with the fact that there is huge potential energy within the youth community in Nigeria that is unused because of the problem of unemployment in Nigeria, for me, as a biochemist, I look at it as mismanagement of energy; people have too much energy but can’t use it anywhere. If you have a 2year old child in this house today and that child doesn’t go to school, he doesn’t go anywhere, before you go out and come back, you will discover that somebody with a lot of energy is residing with you here. So, the idea is that all these agitations bottled up and all that created what you call IPOB. And then the federal government over time started watching from the sideline because IPOB was getting money from elsewhere, setting up radio stations, indoctrinating people, all that went on. But while that was going on, at a point, the leadership of the south-east through Ohaneze, through the governors started engaging Nnamdi to say we know that there are issues. Can we find alternative channels to discuss them? Can we make a studied and intellectual presentation and confront the federal government with these arguments? But he felt that his own strategy was better and all that. So, I think it got to a point when the federal government began to feel that the red line was threatened and unfortunately some of us as governors were not taken into confidence as to the details and plans and intentions of the federal government and it is the irony of this thing they governors chief security officers; chief security officer but you are not controlling the CP, the soldiers around you, the navy around you, you cannot tell them to stop, you cannot tell them where to go and all that. So, that clash came upon us in Abia state and I was confronted as a leader to make a choice between the oath I swore, what was politically expedient and what was right and I think what was right was for me to do everything to protect the lives and properties of Abians and those that are doing business in Abia. So, all that I did, the press releases, my actions, all that I did was geared towards fulfilling my mandate which was to protect lives and properties of not only Abians but of everybody that was within Abia doing business. I did not wish for one soul to die, whether IPOB or a Fulani man or a Kogi man. I didn’t want anybody to lose his life or for us to begin to spill blood in my state. Like I told some people, my mother told me that everybody should do everything to make sure that war does not ensue in his mother’s kitchen because the pots will break, the plates will break and after the war, with what are you going to eat? So, I do not want a war in my kitchen. If there must be war, let the war go elsewhere not in my kitchen. And then I thank God and I give him all the glory that he gave us the wisdom to take the steps we took.” he said

Femi'I stood with Fayose because we don't fear death or incarceration' - Femi Fani Kayode Fani-Kayode, has explained why he attended the recent declaration of Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, to contest the 2019 presidential election.



In a statement issued on Saturday, Fani-Kayode stated that he and Fayose shared similar qualities saying that the governor “would make an excellent president and effect the necessary changes and the restructuring that our country desperately needs'.

Boko Haram members on Friday night attacked an IDP camp in Ngala, Borno state, killing at least seven persons. According to reports, the sect member who arrived in two pick-up trucks,, fired a rocket-propelled grenade at the camp where over 70,000 IDPs take refuge. The remains of the deceased persons have been deposited in the morgue while security has been beefed up in and around the camp.

The Father of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, Isaac Okwu Kanu, has alleged that the Federal Government has hatched out a plan to kill his son over his agitation for the creation of Biafra.

In a recent interview with The Sun, the older Kanu who is the traditional ruler of Afara Ukwu Ibeku in Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State, said plans by the Federal government to re-arrest his son would only bring more problems than solving any.

"When they talk of re-arresting him, it means they want to kill him, but God will not allow them because my son has done nothing wrong. I am using this opportunity to call on the United Nations to call the Nigerian government to order because they are planning to kill my son. My son did not do anything; government should go after those who have committed offence against Nigeria

Re-arresting my son will definitely cause more problems for the country. Why would they re-arrest my son; to kill him? God and our people will not allow that to happen. They should realise that Nnamdi has a boy he has not set his eyes on since he was born and it was out of respect for the laws of the land that made him not to go to London to see that boy".

Speaking further, the older Kanu question the Federal government's motive behind plans for his re-arrest

"Why will they want to re-arrest him? Did he kill anybody? Did he flout the constitution? Some people are saying that my son, flouted the bail condition given him by a Federal High Court in Abuja, but the question remains, what type of bail condition was that? Is it possible that a person of my son’s standing in the society could stay without meeting up to 10 persons in a day or week? So, the said bail condition was against his fundamental human rights. But that not withstanding, I know what we are passing through in my palace; trying to stop people from coming here, but there is a limit to which we can do that. Initially, the major gate to my palace had always been open, but since he came back, that gate has always been shut and we did that to stop people from gaining access to the compound. So, I don’t know what they are talking about. The court in the first place never restrained him from moving about. So, in the course of going to see one or two of his friends and those people would organise reception for him, I don’t think there is anything wrong with that to warrant his being crucified. The question I have been asking since I heard about this planned re-arrest is whether Nnamdi is running away from the country? There is no way he would do that. Any day they want him to appear in court, he will quietly do that. I read the other day that the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami said the Federal Government did not arrest sponsors of quit notice to Igbo living in the northern part of the country because of the security implications. From what he said, it was not that the Arewa youths did not commit any offence, but the issue is that the Federal Government is afraid of what will come out of such arrests and allowed them to move freely. On the other hand, they are making move to get Nnmadi Kanu, who had done nothing re-arrested because they believe nothing would happen if they do that, but they may be making the greatest mistake. It is this treating people from a certain part of the country as being superior to others that is making the agitation for Biafra to gain momentum on a daily basis".

He stressed that he cannot advise his son to forget about his struggle for beiafra.

"There is no way I will advise him to forget the agitation for Biafra ,because I told him from day one that I fully support him, because what he is doing is for the good of his people. So, advising him to drop the agitation now because of the fear for his life would not be ideal. It is bad for one to be marked out for elimination because he said the truth".

A man who has been described by his son to be worse than Lucifer has been convicted after it emerged that he repeated raped his son, wife and 18 other women- over 900 times.

Brian McTaggart, 53 rom Dundee, destroyed the lives of 18 victims during a 24-year reign of terror.

The beast attacked and raped his ex-wife, Kathleren McMurchie up to three times a week during their 10 year marriage. “He raped me two or three times a week over six years. He also raped me shortly after I had given birth.” she said

“He abused numerous partners, however, his offences are much wider and include the sexual and physical assault of children. His catalogue of offending is horrific. It spanned years and affected the lives of so many.”

An angry Nigerian lady from Edo State identified as Blessing Ohare Ukhurebor, reportedly burnt herself alongside her 36-year-old fiancé John Emeka Obodoechina to death, for ending their relationship over her violent nature.

It was gathered that John was advised by her siblings to get to know Blessing first who he has been dating for over a year before she moved in with him, before formally going to Blessing’s family for dowry payment.

DailySun learnt from close sources that John assured the girl of his intentions to meet with her family, but the meeting was suspended after their relationship got a bit messy after he noticed some unacceptable behaviour from Blessing. Some of the couple’s neighbours also reported that at the slightest misunderstanding, Blessing would lock the door, pull a kitchen knife and threaten to stab John.

John’s elder brother, Chief Obodoechina snr, explained that John told him that he had met Blessing in his office, and that he had been helping Blessing in the business she was doing with the company from where they became intimate.

“After about three months, Blessing started taking some of her belongings into John’s place. At that time Blessing did not know whether anyone was John’s sister or colleague in the office, so any calls from a female caller was seen as a taboo. .

That was when John started introducing Blessing to his sisters and colleagues. But when all that also failed to guarantee peace, John felt that marriage between Blessing and himself might be disastrous, so he decided to end the relationship.

He therefore informed Blessing that both of them should part ways in peace. But Blessing, apparently didn’t like the idea. The situation climaxed on August 1. That was the day John gave Blessing N100, 000 to help her secure an apartment before she set herself and John ablaze.

Following the tragic incident, John’s sister, Angela Ibrahim who lives in Badagry, said that morning, she was invited to John’s office by the management of the African Fertilizer &a Chemicals (Big) Ltd in Agbara, Ogun State.

According to her, the invitation surprised her, and she quickly raced to the office.

She said: “There, I was told that Blessing Ohare Ukhurebor, a girl from Edo State, who John had wanted to marry, burnt him alive.

‘I could not understand that because it was not up to four days that the girl left my house and did not show any signs of an impending violence.

‘That was when I started calling my brothers. When we got to John’s house, we saw John bent on the bed, totally burnt. There was no electricity and the gas cooker in the kitchen was not affected. The two phones were there. ‘

‘There were no signs that the gas cooker or phone caused the fire. It was only John and the area he was sleeping that was burnt. The neighbours that we met told us that some people had taken Blessing out, as she was also affected. But they said she was not dead. ‘

‘The neighbours went and reported the incident to the Baale of the area who ordered some of the palace chiefs and John’s neighbours to report the incident to the police.’

“On getting to the Police Station in Agbara, the police said they could not do anything unless a relation of the deceased was around. When my brothers came, initially they could not hold themselves to follow the processes of investigation.

“After some logistics and protocols at the police station, the corpse was taken to the Badagry General Hospital for preservation in the morgue. All our efforts to get to see Blessing to know how she was affected and find out what happened were rebuffed by Blessing’s uncle who was rather threatening us.’

“A few days after John’s interment, we got a call from the same Blessing’s uncle, telling us that Blessing had also died.”

“She had her chance on August 1, by 7:45am, while John was sleeping, That was when Blessing, who already had her plans worked out, poured fuel on John and lit the match. Unfortunately, because fuel is inflammable, she was also affected,” Angela lamented.
