Whenever the word obesity is mentioned, fat people think they are being referred to. There is nothing wrong in being fat, personally am fat, but there is a difference between being fat and being obesed and I will like to start by explaining what obesity is. What Is Obesity? More than a third of adults are obese. It's a medical term that means you weigh at least 20% more than what is ideal for someone your height, often because of body fat. It's measured by BMI (body mass index): 30 and higher is considered obese. That extra weight, especially as fat around your waist, can lead to health issues that often feed off of each other. Shedding pounds may prevent, slow, or even reverse many of them. Trouble Breathing Your larger body may prevent your lungs from expanding fully, and your breathing muscles may not work as well, so you can't take enough air in. Inflammation linked to belly fat may also affect your lungs. You could get winded quickly while doing simple activities like climbing stairs. Extra weight can make asthma symptoms and COPD worse. Fatty Liver Disease When fat builds up in your liver, it may make scar tissue (a condition known as cirrhosis) that can eventually shut your liver down completely. Symptoms may not appear until the damage is done. Doctors don't know exactly what causes fatty liver disease, but you're more likely to have problems when you're overweight, especially in middle age. Osteoarthritis More weight puts more strain on your joints and on the cartilage that protects the ends of your bones, causing pain and stiffness. More body fat may also trigger more inflammation. Just 5% less body weight will take pressure off of your hips, lower back, and knees. (That's dropping from 200 pounds to 190.) Exercise is one of the best things you can do for arthritis. Talk to your doctor about what kind and how much is right for you. High Cholesterol While your genes have some influence, what you eat and how much you exercise also play a role. Unhealthy foods can raise your weight and your "bad" LDL cholesterol and triglyceride levels. Foods with soluble fiber -- like oats and other whole grains, beans, apples, grapes, strawberries, eggplant, and okra -- will help get your cholesterol down as well as fill you up so you eat fewer calories. Gallstones If bile, a type of digestive fluid, doesn't move through your gallbladder like it should, it could harden into pebbles. The most common type is made up of mostly cholesterol. Obese women have higher odds of getting them. You may have more cholesterol in your bile because your blood cholesterol or triglyceride levels are high (or you take medicine to lower them) or you have extra estrogen from birth control, hormone replacement therapy, or pregnancy. Type 2 Diabetes Belly fat is linked to insulin resistance. That's when your body makes insulin, but your cells can't use it properly to get glucose out of your blood. Higher-than-normal blood sugar can become diabetes and may lead to trouble with your heart, nerves, eyes, and more. About 8 out of 10 people who get type 2 diabetes are overweight. There's no cure once you have it, but losing weight may help with its symptoms and prevent complications. Gout Built-up uric acid in your body can form needle-like crystals that make joints like your big toe, ankle, or knee hurt. The likelihood of a flare goes up with the number on the scale and the amount of belly fat, especially when you have high blood sugar and cholesterol problems, too. A heart-healthy diet and exercise habits may help lower the level of uric acid as well as your weight. High Blood Pressure When your body is large, your heart has to pump harder to get blood to all of your cells. That force pushes on your artery walls and may be damaging them. Your doctor will probably recommend that you exercise 20-30 minutes most days, limit sodium to 1,500 milligrams a day, and don't smoke. Getting your BMI close to 25 often helps bring blood pressure down. Hardened Arteries Obesity -- and the diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and inflammation related to it -- can wear on your arteries, turning them thick and stiff. Narrow or clogged vessels can't get enough blood to the cells in your organs and tissues. Although you may not have any symptoms at first, this poor circulation may eventually lead to a heart attack, heart failure, or a stroke. Kidney Disease Your kidneys filter blood and help control your blood pressure. But they can't do their jobs when fat builds up inside them and presses on blood vessels, or when the vessels that bring blood to them are clogged. That can lead to a dangerous buildup of waste in your body. Kidney disease can be a complication of diabetes and high blood pressure, yet it can also be partly a direct result of obesity. Sleep Apnea A chubby neck can narrow your airway, making it harder to breathe at night. You might snore loudly or stop breathing for several seconds over and over. When that happens, you aren't getting the restful sleep you need. It can make you tired and groggy and lead to mood, memory, and heart problems. Pregnancy Issues Moms-to-be who are overweight are more likely to get gestational diabetes and preeclampsia, dangerously high blood pressure that can harm both you and your baby. There's a greater chance that you'll need a C-section to give birth and that your baby could be born too soon, be stillborn, or have brain or spinal cord problems. Work with your doctor to manage your weight safely when you're pregnant. Cancer When you gain weight as an adult, whether or not it makes you obese, you're more likely to get some cancers, including breast, colorectal, endometrial, and kidney. It might be because fat cells make hormones that change how cells grow. Or it might be that habits that lead to weight gain are similar to those that lead to cancer. Eat healthy and stay active to help avoid cancer, regardless of your weight. |

Some Myths and Facts about Type 2 Diabetes Myth 1: Kids don’t get type 2 diabetes Facts: Type 2 diabetes used to be called adult-onset diabetes. But you can get it at any age. Doctors are seeing more kids who have it. Myth 2: You can prevent it Facts: This disease doesn't start suddenly. Some people are first diagnosed with prediabetes (also called impaired glucose tolerance or impaired fasting glucose). Lifestyle changes like weight loss, eating a healthier diet, and getting more exercise can often ward off full-blown diabetes. If you're at high risk, taking supplements is of wonderful help. But you have to be willing to make lifestyle changes, too. Myth 3: Lifestyle changes can cut your diabetes risk Facts: In a recent study, people at high risk for type 2 diabetes were put on a weight loss and physical activity plan for 3 years. Researchers found it lowered their chances of getting the disease by 58%. The news was even better for people age 60 or older their odds went down by 71%. Myth 4: This drink this can make you less likely to get diabetes Facts: People who often enjoy a cup of coffee may be less likely to get type 2 diabetes than those who don't. Experts say the benefit isn't related to caffeine, but to other things in coffee -- like antioxidants or magnesium and chromium. They all help your body use insulin. Still, no studies have proven that drinking it prevents the disease. Myth 5: Some factors make you more likely to get type 2 diabetes Facts: High-sugar or high-salt diets are only risk factors if they lead to obesity. Others include age, family history, inactivity, and ethnicity -- people of African, Asian, Pacific Islander, American Indian, and Latino heritage have a higher risk. But even having one or more of the risk factors doesn’t mean you’ll get the disease. Myth 6: people with diabetes always have symptoms Facts: Almost a third of people with diabetes (not just type 2 diabetes) don't know they have it. Myth 7: Diabetes cause other health complications Facts: Over time, high blood sugar can cause eye problems and blindness, heart disease, nerve and blood vessel damage, kidney disease, and other major health problems. There's no evidence that diabetes causes prostate cancer or arthritis. But depression is twice as common among people with diabetes as everyone else. But it's not clear which comes first, or that one causes the other. High blood pressure is often a complication of diabetes. People who have it are also more likely to get gum disease. Myth 8: There is no symptom Fact: People with high blood sugar are often extremely thirsty. Other symptoms include dry mouth, being hungry more (especially after you eat), peeing more, fatigue, blurred vision, and headaches. Type 2 diabetes can also cause itching, numbness, and tingling in your hands and feet. You may notice that wounds heal more slowly than they used to. You could gain weight without knowing why, get frequent yeast infections, and have sexual problems. Myth 9: People who have it can’t eat sweets Facts: Good news! Dessert is not off the menu. You do need to watch your weight and eat a healthy, balanced diet. But you can have sweets in moderation, and as part of a healthy meal plan. Myth 10: Diabetes can kill Facts: Type 2 diabetes is the seventh leading cause of death in the United States. It accounts for 90% to 95% of all diagnosed cases of heart disease. If you have it, your overall death risk is about twice that of people your age who don’t. Myth 11: The cause of diabetes is too much sugar Facts: Insulin is a hormone that helps your body turn sugar into energy. When you have type 2 diabetes, your cells don't respond to it like they should. This is called insulin resistance. When it happens, sugar backs up in your blood. Your pancreas makes even more insulin to get rid of the sugar. So you wind up with too much of both. Thank you for you time, have a lovely week. Happy new week once again, hope you had a wonderful week. today i will love to highlight some health benefit of this wonderful fruit and why every man and woman need it. Avocados have been called "America`s new favorite fruit." Turns out, avocados are popular for good reason. Not only are they delicious, they`re packed with vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients that can help keep you healthy. Better Than a Banana Your body needs potassium to work normally. For example, the mineral helps keep your heartbeat steady. Most people think of bananas when they think of this nutrient. But ounce for ounce, avocados have more. Protect Your Eyes Avocados have lutein and zeaxanthin, which absorb light waves that can harm your vision. People who eat lots of foods rich in these antioxidants are less likely to have age-related macular degeneration, the leading cause of blindness in older adults. Most of an avocado`s antioxidants are found in the darker green flesh that`s closest to the peel. Help You Lose Weight A half-cup of guacamole has about 6 grams, almost 1/4, of your daily fiber needs. Fiber helps you feel full, so you`re less likely to overeat. And although avocados are high in fat, it`s mainly healthy monounsaturated fat. Research has found that this type of fat in your diet can help trim your waistline. Instead of chicken salad with mayo, try chickpeas with mashed avocado. Boost Your Mood In a cup of avocado slices, you`ll get about 118 micrograms of folate, which is almost a third of what most adults need daily. People who don`t get enough of this B vitamin could be more prone to depression -- and less likely to respond well to antidepressants. Folate also plays a role in preventing birth defects, so expectant and new mothers are encouraged to get more. Power You Up These green gems are packed with a variety of other B vitamins, too, including thiamine (B1), riboflavin (B2), and niacin (B3). These help your body convert the food you eat into energy. Avocados are especially rich in niacin, which can fight inflammation in the body and protect your arteries by improving cholesterol and triglyceride levels. Good for Your Heart Speaking of your blood vessels, the American Heart Association recommends that the majority of the fat you eat be unsaturated, like you`ll find in avocados, rather than the saturated fats in foods like red meats and whole-milk dairy foods. Early research now shows that avocados in particular can also help lower "bad" cholesterol, triglycerides, and blood pressure. Save Your Brain Avocados give you a good dose of vitamin E, which may help protect against Alzheimer`s disease and slow decline in your memory and thinking skills. This may have to do with vitamin E`s antioxidant properties -- it can help fight cell damage caused over time by things like pollution and radiation from the sun. Strengthen Bones On average, people eat half an avocado at a time. That gives an adult 15% of their daily vitamin K needs. This nutrient may help improve bone density and prevent fractures. Toss avocado pieces into a spinach salad with salmon, tuna, or egg for even more vitamin K along with vitamin D, another nutrient that`s essential for bone health. Healthy Blood Sugar Because they`re low in carbs and sugar and high in healthy fat and fiber, avocados check all the boxes as far as being friendly for someone with diabetes. If you don`t have it now but are worried about the future, here`s some good news: Eating a plant-based diet (that includes avocados) could drop your chance of developing type 2 diabetes by about 20%, according to a Harvard study that tracked 200,000 people for 20 years. Skin Care Whether you eat it or make it into a mask, avocado is great for your skin. Its antioxidants, like vitamin C, can help keep your skin looking youthful by smoothing out wrinkles. And the same nutrients that protect your eyes also protect your skin from UV damage. Avocado paste may help wound healing, so you could slather it on a sunburn. Fight Cancer Avocados have oleic acid, a monounsaturated fatty acid (also found in olive oil and nuts) that can slash the odds of breast cancer, according to a study of more than 4,000 women. And a compound in avocados called avocatin B can kill leukemia cells, according to a lab study. Scientists are even looking into whether the papery husks that surround avocado pits have anything helpful. Improves Prostate Beta-sitosterol, a kind of plant sterol, may help relieve symptoms of an enlarged prostate. (It`s part of the family of phytonutrients that help block your body from absorbing "bad" LDL cholesterol.) Avocados have more than four times as much beta-sitosterol as oranges, the next richest fruit source. Team Player Certain nutrients -- like vitamins A, D, E, and K, and the antioxidant lycopene -- are fat-soluble, which means your body will absorb more of them when you eat them along with some fat. Enter the avocado, which just so happens to taste delicious with tomatoes. Try it with pink grapefruit, watermelon, or cantaloupe, too. Thank you for time.
