The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN has said that
out of the N220 billion Micro, Small and Medium
Enterprises Development, MSMED, Fund
available, about N50 billion is still available for
easy access.
Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN),
Mr Godwin Emefiele
The Senior Manager, Development Finance
Department of CBN, Mr Chinedu Zephaniah, who
spoke at a workshop organised by Bankers
Committee on Funding Nigeria’s SMEs, said CBN
has about N3 trillion earmarked for economic
development, out of which N220 billion is
targeted at SMEs.
He stated: “At the moment, we have disbursed
N170 billion to support SMEs, but the
percentage of people that pay back their loans at
the appropriate time is not encouraging.”
Zephaniah said when people pay back as at
when due, it will avail others the opportunity to
access the fund.
“To access the intervention fund of the CBN all
you need to do is to convince your bank that
when you take you will pay back,” he added.
Corroborating this view, Head of Business
Banking in Standard Charter Bank, Mr. Benjamin
Dike said: “As SMEs, if you collect money to
create wealth and you refund the money as at
when due, the confidence of lending institutions
will be high and there will be tangible growth.”

The Kogi State Police Command has denied
report by Senator Dino Melaye representing Kogi
west district at the National Assembly, Thursday,
that unknown gunmen in uniform (police,SARS
and military) fired gun shots at the vehicle just
as its asked the Senator and the people in his
convoy to report to the office of the Deputy
Commissioner of Police, State Criminal

Lafia – Suleiman Wambai, North-Central National Vice Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC) said Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State is not leaving the party. Ortom Wambai told newsmen on Wednesday in Lafia that the governor has not officially written to the party about his intention to leave He said that despite the lack of any form of communication by the governor, the National Headquarters of the party has taken a proactive measure to intervene. “We saw reports in various media that the governor said he was given a red card. So we have already taken proactive steps. “Our able National Chairman had already invited the Governor and other interested parties from Benue State with the aim of resolving the matter,” he said. He also said that the APC under his leadership would work round the clock towards ensuring that they win all elective positions in the zone in the 2019 election. Wambai also commended President Muhammadu Buhari for his developmental stride in the last three years. “The President has redeemed the image of the country before the comity of nations due to his fight against corruption,” he said. The Vice Chairman therefore appealed to Nigerians not to be deceived by looters, but vote for the president again in 2019 for a better country.
