Religion / 5 Easy Ways To Incorporate Short Prayers Into Your Daily Routine by kingsfield(m): 3:11am On Feb 23, 2017
We often beat ourselves up about our prayer lives. We feel that we don’t pray often enough, or long enough. We feel that our prayers aren’t loud and fervent enough or didn’t come with enough tears.
Praying short prayers as a mature christian can often seem inadequate. We see this most often in group prayer times when everyone is asked to pray. Without a doubt, the person who prayed the longest or with the most dramatic pauses usually receives comments like “You are such a good prayer warrior!”.
No one seemed to have anything to say about your short prayer that left everyone wondering if you had more to say.
The good news is that God is not impressed by the length and duration of our prayers. The church members are impressed, your small group is impressed and maybe you impressed yourself but God is not flattered. God simply wants you to pray in faith and we have seen from His word the power of short prayers.
Short prayers have raised people from the dead (1 Kings 17:21-22) , gave sight to the blind (2 Kings 6:17-20 ) and found Issac a wife (Genesis 24:12-21)
Here are 5 easy ways to incorporate short prayers into your daily routine. They all take under a minute to do…”everybody got time for that”.

Turn a scripture into a prayer
Write the prayer on a card and post it on the fridge as a gentle reminder to take a quality moment of prayer. Here is an example of how I turned 1 Corinthians 1:3-9 into a prayer this week.
May our family be covered in grace and motivated by your peace. We give thanksgiving to you Lord because you are the source of all that we need and want. We hope that we would be a testimony to you daily as we live out truth and are led by your holy spirit. We thank you for supplying us with every spiritual gift that we need to be victorious. Bless our fellowship with one another and be our strength in the midst of weakness. We love you and pray this all in Jesus name. Amen.

Breath prayers
This is great for ADHD prayers as it helps to keep your mind focused. These prayers can be as short as two words. I like to breathe in one phrase and breath out the next. Breathe in slowly and deeply as you meditate on the phrase “You are” then exhale as you meditate on the phrase “with me”. This is a great reminder that God is with you when you are feeling down. A few other good breath prayers are:
The Lord is my shepherd….I shall not want
Do not be anxious….for anything.
I can do all things….through Christ.

Finger prayer
Instead of being frustrated at long stop light, take that time to lift up the name of 5 people to God’s throne. Your fingers can represent the same people each time you pray or different ones. Simply ask God to meet their needs that day.

Prayer box
Place a decorative box on your nightstand with small slips of paper. Let the box represent your prayers for a particular person in your life. Before bed write a small sentence prayer for that person. This small prayer box could later be used as a gift of encouragement to that person. I use a wooden box and scrap pieces of paper.

Download a prayer app
I don’t think God will mind if we add a little technology to our relationship with Him. I love having a prayer app on my phone. When I get bored and start tinkering with my phone I can always click on my prayer app to find a short prayer that I can say to refocus my thoughts. A few prayer apps to try are: Best Daily Prayers, Prayers and Blessings Daily, and The Daily Prayer Guide.
I challenge all of us to dedicate 1 minute out of every working hour to prayer this week. That totals up to about 8 minutes per day. It seems small but we are going for the quality of prayer. Praying short and simple prayers keep us humble because it reminds us that the power is in God, not our long prayers.

Religion / 3 Most Common Ways Satan Uses To Stop You From Worship by kingsfield(m): 10:04pm On Feb 02, 2017
If there is one thing that the enemy likes to do so much to us, it’s to stop us from drawing near to God. Satan is obsessed with making sure that none of us will get close to the one who created us. And because we are made to worship God, the devil came up with schemes that will stop us from doing so. Here are three common ways that Satan use to stop us from worshiping:
1. Distraction
This is basically on the top of Satan’s list–to distract you from your focus on God. Ever notice how there are times when you are praying and communing with God then all of a sudden random thoughts of the past seems to pop up and your mind starts to wander? Whether it is as simple as thinking if you have left the iron unplugged or that bad thing you did yesterday or 5 years ago, Satan will always find a way to get you out of focus on God.
2. Offense
Proverbs 18:19 New Living Translation (NLT) says, “An offended friend is harder to win back than a fortified city. Arguments separate friends like a gate locked with bars.”
When we have an offended heart, it hinders us from fully surrendering things to God, blocking our craving for God’s presence. Offense make us unyielding. Satan encourages offenses in our hearts because he knew this will crimp our desire to worship God thus making way for condemnation and pride.
3. Guilt
Satan Loves to torment you with guilt and shame. He makes sure to condemn you with the things you did a week or 10 years ago. He wants to fill our heads with lies about God. Lies like, we will never be enough, or that God has not forgiven us. When this happens, all the more, draw closer to God and declare his promises over your life. Condemnation is never from God, it is the work of Satan (see John 3:17). He wants us to forget our God-given identities that we are set free and forgiven to keep us from worshiping God.

Share to admonish others.

Religion / 5 Practical Ways To Sustain Our Pursuit Of God. This Is Refreshing! by kingsfield(m): 9:00am On Jan 23, 2017
Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.
– 1 Timothy 6:12
We Christians, together with the heaven, celebrate every time an unbeliever receives Jesus Christ in his heart. Nothing compares to the joy of being used by God to save a soul from eternal damnation. When a person receives Jesus Christ in his heart, it is an access for God to have His way and work freely to the life of that person who just started to surrender his life to Jesus.
Receiving Jesus Christ in our heart is just the beginning of our eternal journey. Along the way, God will teach us different things so that we will grow in our faith. May it be in the form of revelation, challenges, discipleship, and encounter. God wants us to mature and be intimate with Him and to keep in step with the Holy Spirit everyday. There will also be people whom God will send to help us cultivate our spiritual life; a pastor, a mentor, a discipler, or spiritual parents and family. It has always been God’s will to draw us so close to Him and that nothing will snatch us from His hand (John 10:28).
God has designed us for this very purpose. But there are times that things do not always go as God planned them because of our stubbornness. Yes, it is God’s will that every single person in the world experience the fullness of Him, it is His will that we all go to heaven. But because we have freedom and there are times that we tend to abuse it, we are drifting away from God.
Jesus said in Revelation 2:4-5,
Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first. Consider how far you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first. If you do not repent, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place.
Sometimes, our relationship with God is being shaken by different things that serve as distraction: worldly passion, self-centeredness, laziness, unfaithfulness, struggles, etc. Proverbs 3:3 says, Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart.
God wants us to walk faithfully with Him. But we can only be faithful to Him if we love Him and make Him our first priority.
Our life as Christians doesn’t just end by simply receiving Jesus into our hearts, but by sustaining our love for Him. Let us not be like others who fall away in their Christian walk. Let us live for Jesus and be faithful to the calling we have received from Him.
Here are some practical ways we can sustain our pursuit of God:
1. Worship: This doesn’t just happen in the church or every Sunday. Worship should be our lifestyle and it is not limited with music and singings. The Lord is after our hearts and we can worship Him in many ways everyday. 1 Corinthians 10:31 says, So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
2. Praise and Thanksgiving: Worship is declaring who God is–gazing upon His beauty and adoring Him. Meanwhile, praise is declaring what God has done in our lives. It is an act of thanksgiving. Psalm 9:1 says, I will give thanks to you, LORD, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds.
3. Prayer and Fasting: This is bringing our petitions before the Lord, laying down to Him all our concerns. We fast to kill the desires of our flesh to be more intimate with God and be sensitive to His voice so that He can move more powerfully in our lives. Daniel 9:3-5 says, So I turned to the Lord God and pleaded with him in prayer and petition, in fasting, and in sackcloth and ashes. I prayed to the LORD my God and confessed: “Lord, the great and awesome God, who keeps his covenant of love with those who love him and keep his commandments, we have sinned and done wrong. We have been wicked and have rebelled; we have turned away from your commands and laws.”
4. Bible Reading: We usually term it as our ‘devotion’ or ‘quiet time.’ It is important that we READ and MEDITATE on God’s word day and night. It makes us mature and firm in our faith. In Psalm 119:11, it says, I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.
5. Fellowship: It is true that going to church does not make us go to heaven. But what is the purpose of the church? Church is there for family. Church is for fellowship. It is the coming together of the believers to grow and encourage one another in their faith. In the church, we are also able to use the gifts God has given us and we become involved in different ministries to function in the body of Christ. Proverbs 27:17 , As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.
May the Lord always find us faithful and in love with Him.

Religion / Cissie Graham Lynch: Millennials Must Stand Strong For Gospel Of Jesus Christ. by kingsfield(m): 6:53am On Jan 21, 2017
Cissie Graham Lynch prayed for millennials during a special inauguration prayer event on Thursday in Washington, D.C. “This is a generation that wants to give back, that is seeking truth and I want them to find the truth in the only truth there is and that’s God’s Word,” she said, noting she was honored to be invited to participate in the prayer.
Cissie Graham Lynch, flanked by fellow millennials, stood before a packed congregation during Thursday’s special inauguration prayer event at Greater New Hope Baptist Church in Washington, D.C.
“Dear God, I lift up a generation who seeks truth,” the daughter of Franklin Graham and granddaughter of Billy Graham prayed. Behind her, members of the millennial generation—her generation—prayed right alongside her; some with arms outstretched.
“Lord, I pray that they proclaim Your Name boldly and will not be ashamed for the Name of Jesus Christ,” Cissie continued. “Lord, I pray that they will study Your Word to know what it says, to know what is truth so they can teach, correct and rebuke a forever compromising world that will tell them they’re wrong. Lord, I pray that they will cling to You and Your Word only.”
Cissie’s prayer was one of many shared during the service, which focused on lifting up the nation in eight primary ways before Inauguration Day. Cissie’s father, Franklin Graham, is scheduled to read Scripture during the official ceremony on Friday, and she will follow in the footsteps of her grandfather and father by praying during the Presidential Inaugural Prayer Service on Saturday.
The eight areas of emphasis during Thursday’s event included focused prayers for the nation, the presidential administration, Congress, Supreme Court, U.S.-international relations, the media, racial healing/unity and millennials.
That younger generation is near and dear to Elisha Howard’s heart. A millennial herself, the 22-year-old said she can be torn between understanding both sides—her seeker generation and the older, faithful people she works with through All Nations North America, a faith-based organization.
Elisha said the best way she’s learned to show the love of Jesus to her generation is simply by being obedient to the Lord and being authentic by “walking in love in all things.”
Different outlets define millennials using a variety of year ranges, so maybe the best option is Merriam-Webster, which considers the term to mean a person born in the 1980s or 1990s. Despite her young age, Elisha said she was excited to attend the prayer event. She was further encouraged to learn that Cissie, a young adult from her generation, would be praying.
“I’m beginning to see young people standing up and praying and taking a stand, and it’s really encouraging to me to know that I’m not the only one,” Elisha said.
Janie Walton, who made the trip from Colorado Springs, was sitting in the church pew when the millennials started to pray. She had been recording audio from the event with her cell phone and noticed the frequency levels soared as the younger generation stormed heaven with their prayers.
“When I heard them pray, I felt a bang, bang, bang,” she said afterward, pounding her open left hand with her right fist. “It was like this hammer coming down on the forces of darkness.”
Cissie said her hope is young people will realize the power they can have in Jesus when they’re not ashamed of the Gospel.
“Especially for young people, millennials, it’s important,” Cissie said. “No matter what setting we’re in, whether it’s the corporate world, at home, in the school system. We have to stand strong for the Gospel of Jesus Christ, know what God’s Word says, know why we believe what we believe and stand strong for it and not be ashamed of it, because that’s when the power of salvation happens.”
Hundreds packed Greater New Hope Baptist Church in Washington, D.C., for a time of prayer on Thursday. That unity is critical, Cissie Graham Lynch said. “In a country right now that is so divided, we know Jesus is the Prince of Peace and the King of kings and the Lord of lords. He is the true peace, and I pray that we would all know Jesus in our hearts, but as Christians, we have to come together. At the end of the day, no matter what your political beliefs are, our center focus must be Jesus Christ.”

Religion / Trusting God In Your Drought Season by kingsfield(m): 6:02am On Jan 18, 2017
It’s easy to trust God when things are going well. But what do we do when we come to a season of “drought” in our lives?
The one thing I like about seasons is that they’re not permanent: meaning they will change at some point.
My pastor once taught a message entitled, “What Do You Do When Your Brook Dries Up”.
God was definitely speaking to me and my husband that night as we were going through a “drought” in our lives. It seemed like every door and avenue was closed and we had to depend solely on God to make it day by day.
I thank God for those times because it taught us how to completely put our trust in Him. We learned that even though our resources are limited, it doesn’t limit God. Today, we can confidently say that God is our ultimate source and provider.
The widow woman in 1 Kings 17: 7-24 went through some seasons within her life. She was once young and married. Perhaps she and her husband was living the “high life” until their season changed. Her husband passed away leaving her a widow with a child to care for alone. The Bible doesn’t tell us much about this widow’s life, but what the Bible does tell us is enough to give us hope. This widow woman is a beautiful example of how God will provide for our needs if we just learn to do two things:
1) Be obedient to His word
2) Have faith and trust in His ability to accomplish even the impossible.
I love how God used one of the most unlikely sources (a poor widow) to bless the man of God, Elijah. This remarkable story shows us what the power of obedience can do if we walk in faith in God.
Most of all, 2 things stood out to me about this story:
1) She was obedient:
In 1 Kings 17:9 , God instructed the prophet Elijah to “ Arise, go to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and stay there; behold, I have commanded a widow there to provide for you. ” Not only did this blessing rely on the widow woman but the prophet Elijah too. When he went into the city he saw a woman picking up sticks. He asked the widow woman for something to drink and as she proceeded he asked her for some bread. Even though she was already commanded by God and fully aware of the Prophet coming, she still had to wrestle with her flesh.
We can see this in her response to Elijah, “ And she said, As the Lord your God lives, I have no bread, only a handful of flour in the bowl and a little oil in the jar; and behold, I am gathering a few sticks that I may go in and prepare for me and my son, that we may eat it and die. ” (1 Kings 17:12 ) She was honest, but still in her distress yielded to the command of God and proceeded to bake the man of God a small cake. Sometimes, it’s difficult to walk in obedience of God’s word when we can’t physically see the benefits but the word of God encourages us in I Samuel 15:22, “…to obey is better than to sacrifice…”. But when we can apply faith, to our obedience miracles began to happen.
2) She had faith:
Something inside this widow must have caused her to push beyond her flesh and desires and serve the prophet Elijah. Deep down the Lord was dealing with her reminding her of the words he commanded her to do. Often times, we find ourselves struggling with the very thing God commanded us to do because of fear or our desire to please ourselves. I honestly think this widow loved God more than her life in order for her to put the Prophet Elijah before her own family. At the end of the day when she yielded to God she not only blessed the man of God but she received a blessing as well.
The Bible tells us that “So she went and did according to the word of Elijah, and she and he and her household ate for many days. The bowl of flour was not exhausted nor did the jar of oil become empty, according to the word of the LORD which He spoke through Elijah. ” (1 Kings 17: 15-16 ).
This woman put her faith into action by going forth and doing what was requested of her. Her obedience in the Word spoken by the Prophet saved her household.
Hebrews 11:6 states, “And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him. ” This poor widow woman received her reward.
God knows how to provide for His people. As any natural father cares for his children, so does our heavenly father care for us and will provide all of our needs according to his riches in glory (Philippians 4:19 ). All it takes is obedience and a measure of faith in God’s word for miracles to happen.
Next time, you are in need of something, bless someone and watch God move on your behalf. Allow God to use you to be the miracle someone else needs.
