EducationRe: How To Achieve High Scores On The GRE by Kingsman01: 6:48pm On Nov 17, 2019
Hey Bro. Please kindly reply my email. I sent you a reminder.

Evans211:
With all due respect sir, his profile is seemingly perfect and AWA in most schools is the least of consideration for admission amidst other requirements like SOP, GPA and LOR etc.
EducationRe: How To Achieve High Scores On The GRE by Kingsman01: 11:37am On Nov 13, 2019
Congratulations on your scores. You performed well regardless. Please I am interested in the Magoosh Premium account and here is my email: donkingsley17@gmail.com I hope to hear from you soon.

Prettygud:
I have a magoosh premium account to share with anyone that is interested.

I wrote my GRE today.. Twas not as I expected. As a first time taker, I thought it was just some baby exam. I start prep August, so my prep was just approximately 2 months.

Some bad luck started following me from 6am today when I woke up, I stood straight to stretch, not knowing the fan was not really far up, I ended up cutting my right hand finger nails into two, blood everywhere. This happened because it's not my house, I didn't know the fan was low. I went to a near by chemist to treat my self. This weakened my confidence as I could nearly hold a pen. (don't stretch if u aren't familiar with the room on the day of ur test angry..)
Anyways I got to the centre in abuja 8:40am, the whole check in process was carried out and we started.
I have long Bern praying for 3 quants but after the incident I pray for 3 verbal( which I wasn't good at).
I wrote the test with the pain. Typing wasn't easy. But I know I did well in the AWA, my topics were sweet, straight forward, already worked on similar topics from the ETS pool of essays. I should write about 700 words for each, could have written more if I could be faster.

The first verbal was difficult, then I hard I tough quants, then break, another equally tough verbal, now I knew the first should be the experimental as I didn't really do well. The next quants was lot tougher than most practice test I have taken. What surprise me was that my last verbal was equally tough as the previous ones, I assumed I did well in the previous verbal, probably that's
Why I got another difficult one. Little did I know that I was joking with myself, all fantasy.

I will be having a rewrite by early December, by then I should have solved the mystery of verbal.
And please I will appreciate tips on verbal because I employed all that I knew during the test.

I clicked reports score and there was my 55k staring at me on the screen..
If u register GRE for a cheap price and u are genuine, please send me ur contact.

V152Q164(316) undecided..

I beg coming test takers, forget the learning of big words, the GRE dosent have big words like that, its straight forward.. Learn few words, the common ones, forget advance words and Co.. U can use magoosh flashcard for.. My problem in verbal from practice yes has always been RCs which I sometime get 3 or 4 of 10, but TC and SE are good.

Stick to one material, the most important of all is the ETS materials, all the questions that fly around are not GRE like, some are extremely tougher without clues but GRE TC and SE gives u enough clues, just learn to find it in RCs too, that's my own issue for now..

For quants, ETS is also still the best.. Then u can use magoosh or Manhattan.
Princeton practice test is a very close predictor of your real score.

If u are interested in the magoosh premium account, dm via mail.

This is very impressive! Bro please can I DM?. I am also a political scientist and the GRE is giving me a hard time. I need your guidance.

Evans211:
Just got back to my abode. Left Dragnet almost immediately after the exam. It’s being a long day and i wish I could say more.. anyways, not so impressed but a bit happy and confused how I managed to get 162Q and 156 in Verbal despite burning the midnight candle and putting more efforts in verbal. My profile goes thus;

Update-

GRE- 318 (Q162 V156 AWA 3.5) Official
Toefl- Undecided (not sure if it’s needed)
GPA- 3.28/4
Degree- Political Science

Schools (MA program)

1- Bowling Greene University
2- Cleveland State University
3- University of Kansas
4- George Washington University

This is an update from my last week exam. AWA gave me a devastating blow.. Perhaps, I saw it coming but this is a rude shock!

To the Gurus in the house, not sure if this is an okay score; including AWA, but am I good to go ?

1. I don’t think you should go for Interview until 120 days of the start date on your 1-20.

2. Read up all transcripts including *Public health transcripts* by searching Vo Public health on the search bar and research well all through this thread.

3. Previous denials have little effect on current trails. Just prove to the VO that you are a genuine student.

Since you’ve not resumed, you don’t have a sevis record yet. What you have is a sevis fee valid for a year. If you plan on going to another school within a year, you don’t have to pay another sevis fee. You will go to the sevis website and transfer your sevis fee payment to your new sevis number. Go to fmjfee.com, then to I-901 status, enter your current sevis ID and details and click request transfer, then enter your new sevis ID and that’s it.
Thanks bro. Roger that!

Good people of the Nairaland family, I have come to you this day to seek your help in uploading my passport photograph while completing the DS-160.
My passport has been rejected on the basis of compressed artifacts and poor lighting.
I followed all the instructions, I even went to five star studio to snap it oo. I tried the scanned version, i tried the soft copy. Still no show.
Why is it doing me like this na
My suggestion: go to an ordinary photoshop, take a bright and clear photo using a white background and ask them to compress the soft copy to a maximum of 230kb. If they don’t know how to do it(just like my case lol), no worries. Take both Soft and hard copies home. Use a computer to edit the image via “PAINT” and adjust the dimensions till you get a maximum of 230kb. Then you are good to upload. Very stress free. Trust!

Your sevis ID is valid as long as you remain in status. Yes, it can be transferred to another school. Talk to your international student advisor. For most schools, you need a transfer request form from your new school to be completed by you and your international student advisor, then you initiate the transfer of your sevis record to your new school before you can request for a new I-20 from your new school.

1. Unfortunately, u already resigned from your job.

2. U also found this thread too late.

3. A health related degree in my opinion puts you at a better job advantage than political science.

4. U might need to write the GRE n TOEFL. But I don't think u can still make fall 2019. Prepare for fall 2020.

5. The fact that your uncle stays in LA doesn't mean u have to school in California. Except u r going to school from his house, there is really no need to stick with California which is the worst state in terms of living costs (I stand to be corrected).

6. There is no "magic" search engine. U have to search yourself on Google n check every single programs.

7. Search for schools with lower tuition fees in affordable states.
Thanks for your message bro.

It seems you were warned about this school before you went for the visa interview, but it seems like you had already booked the interview before you knew it is in one of the "hard schools to get visa" group. Also, you did not take any of GRE or TOEFL showing that you wanted to take shortcuts in everything.

Anyways ...

I sincerely think you should have an idea of what you want to be in the future. I always encourage people to have this idea in mind. Telling people to select a course for you shows you have no idea of what you want to become. This is not a very good situation.

What do you want to be in 5 years from now?

The answer to this question will guide you to choose the course that leads you to that direction. Don't be scared of choosing a "non-marketable" course. People have gotten visas for it and you will - if you do the right thing. If people end up choosing a course and you start studying it in the US, it might get to a point where you will find a mismatch between your dream and your current course of study and then you will start looking for a career switch, which will end up wasting your time. So, it is best you know what you want to do and have a game plan ready.

But then, you need to start with taking the GRE and TOEFL before selecting a good school for you.
Bro thank you for your message.

1. I wrote the TOEFL oh even though I did not do well.

2. I have my carrier plans and intended courses as well. I am asking for good search engines because I know American schools have some very unique degrees that may relate to my career goal. Morealso, I wanted members ideas I can add to my plans.

So I had my interview today for 6:30am. After reading on Nairaland how the VOs resume to work much later and my Uber guy saying the VOs don’t resume till 7am or 8am, I just felt relaxed. I arrived by 7am thereabout. I was getting worried as two youths I asked were on B1/B2 so I became anxious that my lateness may pose a problem to me. Well as I was carrying out my screening and biometrics, I just dey see coded blue paper issuance to people. I wasn’t that bothered although I was somewhat tensed tho. I read a lot about composure on this forum so I maned up. It got to my turn and the following exchange took place:
The VO was an American guy in black suit( can’t remember the window)
VO: Good morning
Me: Good Morning( we exchanged pleasantries well)
VO: where are you going to?
Me: I am going to National University, San Diego, California to Study the Master of Public Health with a concentration in HealthCare Administration, starting with the English language learning. I will be working with Joseph Lanctot, Chair of the National University Planetree committee on community-wide volunteer opportunities(vo cuts in)
VO: why National University? (I think I asked him to say again, not sure tho. He repeats the question)
Me: (paused for a mini sec) The school of health and human services is currently successful in an ongoing research project specifically in the area I am most interested in, that is the Person-centered care model of health treatment. This has made National University the first academic institution in the world to pursue and achieve the planetree recognition. Upon completion of the master degree program, I intent to come back to Nigeria and work with the relevant health authorities to introduce this model of health treatment to the Nigerian healthcare sector(VO cuts in)
VO: what do you do for work?
Me: I am an administration officer with **** and the core of my responsibilities includes(I briefly highlighted my duties at work as filled in my application); first aid maintenance, Solid waste management, water treatment analysis, routine fumigation and pesticide control, etc. I also ensure compliance to Health, Safety and Environment health laws and regulations in maintenance of Fire hydrant and portable fire extinguisher, safe keeping of harmful and designated equipments, bla bla bla(at the point of my finishing, VO cuts in)
VO: who is sponsoring you?
Me: My uncle(mentioned his name and profession with the ********** in Los Angeles for 22 years.)
VO: are you married?
Me: No sir
VO: do you have any children?
Me: none(in my mind I was becoming happy that this may be it(White paper lol) as most delayed interviews don’t get to sponsorship questions.
VO: Started Typing for long ohhhhhh( he didn’t even look at my face at this time). I was just hopishly smiling at his face. Quickly, he brought out the blue paper and told me I do not qualify for the VISA at this time. This paper will explain why. Na so I gently Comot.

Please house I already submitted my DS-160 before I resigned effective 28th February, 2019. Could this be a possible cause for my Visa denialhuh

Olalekank:
Oga please calm down. I'd want you to know that people giving you advice have been here for years and want the best for you.

Nobody is saying God does not play his part in helping you but if a school is a red flag, it's a red flag.

That's how a guy came some months ago with California Mirama University which was a red flag. He was warned not to go for interview with the school but he was adamant, and in the end, he was denied.

Please follow Lagosismyhome advice and apply to another school, before going for your interview. Going for an interview with this school would only sour your chances of getting a visa next time. You have a high chance of being denied.
Bros try to understand my point. I am not being adamant. I totally accept her input and all others. I have already booked an Interview. If I don’t get it, fine.
