What could have been a tragedy caused by an electricity spark which ignited the fire at the ICT centre of Ebonyi state college of education ikwo, early hours of saturday 18/02/2017 was averted by a corps member serving with the school known as Innocent. According to an eyewitness, everyone at the scene were hopelessly scared and don't know what to do before the corps member came. Realizing it was due to electricity, he disconnected the wires before rushing to the gate of the ICT Centre and broke the padlocks on the gate before heading to the store where fire was coming from. Reaching there, he said the store was under lock and key and he had to broke the door, removing it completely and he boldly enter this thick smoke, before the security men came rushing with the fire extinguisher and he collected it and operated by himself because no one was bold enough to go close before the fire gradually die down and everyone present were grateful to him saying it was God that brought him there. According to one of the security men, the way the corps member fought the fire, he relate it to that of a hungry lion, that he was suprised that he fought the fire as if it were his own personal building and that he was determined to put off the fire and thank God he succeeded. And he finally said that the corps member should be commended. Aside the ICT centre, other buildings that would have been affected includes the Fine Art department, the Remedial Unit, Business Education department and a store.
