Hello Nairalanders, I've been a silent learner on the forum since last year November.
And I need your assistance on available schools with funding for Postgraduate studies in Public Administration Fall2019. My main emphasis is to get scholarships and schools that can accept uploaded transcript for just the admission process.
My profile:
CGPA : 3.13/4.0scale
GRE : 288
Work experience: 3years @ Public Service
I've applied to two schools already, but I want to spread my opportunities to at least two more schools before time runs out.
Thanks for the anticipated assistance.

Okay, thanks I'll contact the program coordinator. Though my program deadline is March 1.

My testimony (part one)
If the Lord is on my side who can be against me.

2006, I was suppose to graduate from Unilorin (Maths Edu Department) but somethings happened I graduated 2008 with a third class. Mind all of 2007, I was waiting for my call up letter only to be informed that I had a missing grade. I missed a whole year without deferring my studies yet I was allowed back in.

I cried, I felt like killing myself. I never wanted to study that course. All I wanted was to be an Economist/Accountant. Due to my parents pressure I resumed like 2 weeks to my 100 level exam. I didn't take any test just the exams.
All I have in my mind was I am going to quit after my Jamb score is out. My score came out, I was not selected for Economics I became frustrated. Now in 200 level starring at the abysmal grade before me.
I was a social science student one of the best in my secondary school now my live dreams is falling apart.

My mother encouraged me and I decided to face the course squarely with everything thing I got. But it wasn't easy cos it wasn't my area of specialisation.
300 level I was practically begged to become the president of my department but I refused cos I need to rescue my CGPA.

That I did to a lower 2.2 until the unfortunate missing grade.
My parent wasn't mad at me rather they praised me and encouraged me. I was shocked beyond words.
2010 I got a job same year I was admitted for Economics at the University of Ibadan distance learning centre.
"If I have but one merit that is never given up".
Working and schooling wasn't easy. I missed on a 2.1 by a fraction!
Now fulfilled I applied for an international program from my place of work, sponsored by United states Department of States Bureau of Educational and Exchange Program.
To my greatest astonishment, I was the only one selected in Nigeria out of 30000 applicants.
I spent five days in Washington DC and 2 months at Bowling Green State University all expenses paid as a visiting scholar. It was between January-March 2018

My qualifications are third class Bsc (Ed) Maths Unilorin and Second class lower Bsc Economics DISTANCE LEARNING CENTRE! Yet I was called a VISITING SCHOLAR by the United states Department of States.

I came back applied for a master's in the same school.
I submitted my Unilorin transcript Tuesday evening.
Yesterday, March 1 I received my admission letter.

Never let anyone tell you it's impossible! There is no impossibility in God's own dictionary. Don't give up, pray, fast and work hard!
God bless you all!
Congratulations! it's an inspiring story.

This admission is from Bowling Green State University? Is it for Fall 2019?
I want to know cause I applied to the same school, expecting decision and highly impatient
Thanks

Very solid responses.
Congratulations!
Kirusky4life:
I had my interview on 4th December at Lagos Embassy.

V.O: Good Morning, Can I have your Passport and I.20
Me: I obliged.
V.O: What course are you going to study?
Me: Am going for my graduate studies in Computer science at TAMUC
V.O: Why Computer science:
Me: I did computer science as my under graduate course, during that time, I developed a penchant for programming. It has been something am very passionate about, so I decided to get an advance degree and specialized in the field.
V.O: How did you hear about the school?
Me: I was doing a research online on school that offers database administration as an option in computer science, TAMUC was one of the schools I came across.
V.O: Why do you want to specialize in Database administration?
Me: (I didn’t prepare for this, but I had to come up with something). Database insecurity is one of the major problems facing Nigeria at the moment, we hear every time about people’s account being hacked in and the issue of cyber-theft is not left out. All these challenges are cropping up because of the poor implementation of the database servers. I want to specialize in this area so that I can contribute to combating these acts.
V.O: Did you apply to other schools?
Me: I applied to three schools, MTSU, Illinois state university and TAMUC
V.O: Did they all admit you?
Me: YES
V.O: so why TAMUC?
Me: The computer science department at TAMUC has a research area that most interest me and can benefit Nigeria if well detected. That is on Database SQL Injection and The implementation of ACID property of a database. Also I was awarded $1000 scholarship which also qualifies me for in-state tuition.
V.O: What is SQL Injection?
Me: SQL Injection is a technique used by Database hackers to add their own SQL code to the database via website input thereby making the database work out of the normal ways and work as they intended.
V.O: (He types something that looks like forever and continued). How did you hear of these research?
Me: My course advisor told me about it during one of our conversations.
V.O: and what did they find out after the research?
Me: The research is still ongoing, which is why am keen to know more about it.
V.O: Did you write any standard test?
Me: Yes, I wrote TOEFL and GRE
V.O: Who is sponsoring your trip?
Me: My cousin
V.O: Do you have is statement of account?
Me: Yes. Passed it on.
V.O: (He looked at it and returned it, then started typing again and brought out a white paper, wrote something on it and returned it with my passport and I.20). Your scholarship is not reflecting on your sevis profile, update it and submit your evidence and passport to us via DHL. No need for you to come back here to submit. Go through the paper I give you and see what you have to do.
Me: Okay. Thank you sir

I just sent the updated I.20 today and the dhl said it will be delivered within 21 working days. Please any1 sent additional documents to the embassy recently, How long did it take to deliver it. The thought of that 21 days is killing. school starts on 10th January.

Hello house,
PLEASE I need help analysing this requirement by Texas A&M University for Postgraduate in HRM. I don't know if this write up means English is compulsory for ALL international students or just for those whose primary language is not English.

Also anyone with information about this school should help me out. I really like the resources of the school, this seems to be the only perceived hindrance.
Thanks.

Congratulations on your VISA. PLEASE does Texas A&M require WES evaluation? I'm trying to apply for Msc in HRM but their international requirements are quite vague but I really like the school. PLEASE anyone who has information this topic can also help me. Thanks
mrkhaynoni:
To all F1 visa hopefuls, here is my transcript and a little bit of background info/landing details.

I had my visa interview on Aug 2nd 2018

I was on the queue and I noticed a particular v.o was denying everybody within a minute, I became apprehensive, my confidence started waning, mouth getting dried, from my calculations it appears the window that will open up for my interview will be with this woman! God No!! I screamed in my mind, I turned to the orderly and asked to be shown the restroom (evil grin), the man look me shake head then said I should hold on for my interview first, then go to ease myself. Ha! abi were leleyi ni? (for my mind o). As we were arguing na him alarm sound for a inner cubicle, NEXT!!
Sharp! sharp!! I darted to the cubicle, as I came face to face with the African american middle aged v.o, she was all smiles, my bp started reducing small small.

V.O: hi goodmorning (very bright smile)
Me: good morning

v.o: how was your night? (I begin think, really??)
me: my night was fine, thank you

v.o: passport and I20
me: handed it over

v.o: you are Mr so so so
me: Dr so so so actually

v.o: oh sorry
me: its OK (smiling)

v.o: oh, u already have a b1 visa
me: no, that is actually a renewal (from here confidence start soaring)

v.o: just a min pls ( am sure she went to check my travel history)
me: no problem

v.o: how will you fund your program?
me: personal savings and family support.

v.o: may I see your bank statements
Me: handed it over

v.o: oh you have more than one sponsors
me: yes

v.o: I will need to verify this, if it checks out, you will have your visa (photocopied my 120)
me: no problem.

N.B
All this happened within two minutes in the most cordial mood possible, no question about my school or course, I am a Dr. going for Mph at Texas A&M.

I personally believe my past travel history both to the USA and Europe spoke well for me. I have never stayed up to two weeks outside Nigeria before. And my intended course aligned well with my background.

One week after, my visa was approved. I collected my pp and booked ticket immediately, school was resuming in 3 days.
left naija two days later, landed Texas just a day to resumption.

It has been very busy here since.

Texas A&M is a very big school, though not as much Africans as I anticipated. And my department is super nice, fed the whole class for two weeks (just lunch o)

I will recommend this school to anyone. But I believe we should all have some money for our support on landing, I have no funding at all and things are expensive when u convert, but I made modest plans for my initial survival.

I prepared my application for a whole year, and I kept very good travel history but people without travel history do get visas, and married people also got visas. Just be rational with your plans and expectations all the best my people.

SUN HERE IS HOT O!!!!!!

Judgepelumi:
LONG POST ALERT!!!
Today is Sunday so I want to share my testimony grin cheesy
I've been following this thread since December 2017 after Canada bounced me and this thread played a great role in my choice of school and visa prep & all of that. IMO, I think getting a visa is now harder than before especially when you don't have a plan or you don't know why you want to further your study. I saw many blues that day and people who dressed inappropriately for the interview(I was just smh).
July 19, I was interviewed by a tall slim lady @window4 and I was just praying not to be directed to the black woman tho she fine with nice pomo lips grin, Lol.
As an Accountant wey I be, I wore my suit, white shirt and a wine tie+pock square. I'm not sure I've any better advise to give other than the ones the elders here have always reiterated. But it's best you speak with all sincerity & be confident, plan(i mean you should know what you want), prepare well and pray well too. With God, all things are possible.

Vo: Good morning, can you pass your passport
Vo: Why are you going to the US
Me: I am going to Montclair State University, NJ for my Masters in Accounting with a concentration in Forensic Accounting (she tried to cut me but i had to rush my words just to mention my concentration)
Vo: Did you apply to any other school?
Me: Yes College at Brockport, SUNY
Vo: Which of the campuses?
Me: Rochester (I never knew if they had other campus stations but i was lucky to remember the day i dialled the Grad coord's nos it showed Rochester on truecaller)
Vo: So why did you pick MSU over Brockport?
Me: Aside that MSU offers a concentration in Forensic accounting and accredited by AACSB, MSU is the best public university and the most innovative business school in NJ. Aside that, the curriculum is well designed such that it doesn't focus alone on the theoretical aspect but it integrates a lot of practical case studies which would be beneficial for me going forward in my career. I will also get hands on experience with software training that helps to get a full picture of someone's financial habits and activities, track spending patterns and combine information from multiple financial accounts and I will get moot court room experience as well. The curriculum also ensures that when I eventually take my CFE exams, I'd not need to take extra classes.
Vo: You've been working at XYZ for how long?
Me: 5-6months now, started late Feb
Vo: And before then you worked at shengbele company, what do they do there?
Me: Its an Audit firm
Vo: Have you ever applied to another country(I guess she'd see through their database)?
Me: Yes that was last year, Canada
Vo: What program was that?
Me: A PGD in HRM
Vo: So why are you switching to accounting?
Me: I have been an accountant for a while and my undergraduate degree was in accounting so I have decided to remain in that career path
Vo: Was there no Msc Accounting in Canada? Why didn't you apply there, why US?
Me: The tuition fees were expensive and I couldn't afford it
Vo: Oh that's why you went for a PGD instead
Me: Yes
Vo: Have you been to the US before?
Me: No
Vo: Married, kids?
Me: No
Vo: Does anyone in your family have a visa
Me: No
Vo: So what will you do with this degree after school
Me: This degree will afford me the qualifications to take up a job at EFCC as an expert in fraud examination. I plan to work in the anti-money laundering and counter-financing of terrorist activities dept upon my return. In the long-run, I'd love to have my own forensic accounting firm where I'd be able to render consulting services to both the public and private sector.
Vo: Did you write any exams?
Me: Yes GRE and TOEFL
Vo: What did you score in GRE
Me: 296 (gave her the breakdown but she didnt ask for the report card)
Vo: Who's sponsoring you
Me: My mom
Vo: What does she do?
Me: she's a distributor for.............
Vo: Can I see her BS (she perused it well well)
Vo: Are you sure there's no other reason why you're going to NJ
Me: Not at all aside that MSU offers my preferred program
Vo: She reached for the white paper, ticked AP, said something about checking to see somethings check out and some other things i didn't hear clearly, wrapped my BS & I-20 in my passport and that was it. But the battle wasn't over till Friday when I picked up my passport.
I was on AP for a month, first 2weeks I heard nothing so I sent an inquiry mail but no reply. The 3rd week ended and I had to just call them and I guess that was when my BS were sent for verification. And the following week it got issued. TBH, this AP was torture especially having to wait a month. So many thoughts, High BP but special thanks to Ekebs & sunshine for encouraging me, e no just easy. My special gratitude to Folmus for reviewing my transcript and Winterstorm for the pep-talk before my interview day and to the elders here for your great contributions as my dream is now a reality.
