osssy09: We should stop supporting mediocrity, how u saying NIGERIA don't have player that can play as a CM?
Okocha have no business in Nigeria Super Eagles, he is past it already,we should look forward. In his interview i watched some months back in HITV he said he retired because he don't want to disgrace himself.
A player that have not played in a competitive game for MONTHS,you want to take the person to world cup? that silly, In other countries, players are trying to go to clubs they we be playing regularly because they kn that when you are not playing regularly you don't have a world cup space, but in Nigeria you are going on campaign for someone who has not played ball for months to go to worldcup.
Okocha is no longer a footballer,he is a businessman,
, my battery is down Spot on! @ Topic Hull City was Okocha last known club in the Coca-Cola Championship before the Club got promotion to EPL enjoying it second season in the top flight, now ask yourself when was the last time Okocha played a competitive football match? Okocha has contributed greatly to Nigeria Football no doubt but lets not dwell on past glories which is partly the problem with Nigeria Football else some people will start campaigning for '94' Squad that conquered Africa like the OP said [s]' even if Nigeria does not get beyond the group stage we can use our last group match to say goodbye to our veterans: Jay Jay and Kanu for having served us so well '[/s] |

Politics › William Jefferson Gets 13 Years In Prison by kizi(op): 12:42am On Nov 14, 2009 |
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1109/29506.htmlFormer Democratic Rep. William Jefferson (La.), infamous for having $90,000 in bribe money hidden in his freezer, was sentenced to 13 years in prison today after being convicted on a slew of federal corruption charges. Jefferson’s sentence was the harshest ever handed out to a former lawmaker, but Justice Department officials said Jefferson warranted such a severe sanction due to the unprecedented scale of his corruption. Jefferson appeared in court Friday afternoon in a black suit and a red tie, with his five daughters, his wife and his brother. Jefferson did not speak at his sentencing, and his attorney Robert Trout says he will appeal the conviction. Jefferson, 62, will be the fifth former member of Congress since 2000 to end up behind bars, joining ex-Reps. Duke Cunningham (R-Calif.), Jim Traficant (Ohio), Bob Ney (R-Ohio) and Frank Ballance (D-N.C.) on the list of imprisoned lawmakers. A sixth former member, ex-Rep. Rick Renzi (R-Ariz.), was indicted last year on federal fraud and money laundering charges, but his case has yet to go to trail due to constitutional challenges raised by Renzi’s attorneys. After a long legal battle, and a first-of-its-kind raid on a congressional office by FBI agents, Jefferson was convicted in August on 11 federal corruption charges, including bribery, honest services fraud, money laundering and racketeering. He was also the first sitting lawmaker charged with trying to bribe a foreign official, in this case, the former Nigerian vice president. The $90,000 in bribe money - given to Jefferson by an FBI informant - was later found in his freezer during a 2005 FBI raid on his Virginia home. The incident became a punch line for late-night comedians and a symbol of the congressional corruption. Prosecutors said the Louisiana Democrat, who served in the House for 18 years before losing his 2008 reelection battle, “conspired with numerous business people over many years and through various schemes to perform official acts in exchange for cash, stock, and other equity interests through which the defendant and his family stood to gain more than a half a billion dollars.” All told Jefferson received $478,000 in bribe money, including $367,500 from Kentucky businessman Vernon Jackson. But FBI agents and DOJ officials said they are unable to rule out the possibility that Jefferson has more funds secretly stashed away in overseas bank accounts, according to court documents filed this week. Justice served! |

Politics › Re: Charles Taylor 'duped' By Nigeria by kizi: 12:31am On Nov 11, 2009 |
walata44: By Mark Doyle BBC News
Charles Taylor has denied the charges against him Former Liberian President Charles Taylor has said he was duped by Nigeria into being arrested and facing international justice.
Mr Taylor was speaking at his trial on war crimes charges at the Special Court for Sierra Leone in The Hague.
He is accused of backing rebels in Liberia's neighbour Sierra Leone, who committed widespread atrocities throughout the 1990s.
He had left power and was in exile in Nigeria in 2006 when he was arrested.
Mr Taylor now says the president of Nigeria at the time, Olusegun Obasanjo - who is currently a United Nations peace envoy - told him lies that caused him to be arrested.
CHARLES TAYLOR CHARGES Violation of humanitarian law: Conscripting child soldiers Crimes against humanity: Terrorising civilians, murder, rape, sexual slavery, enslavement War crimes: "Violence to life", cruel treatment (including hacking off limbs), pillage
Preacher, warlord, president Mr Taylor was living in exile in Nigeria in 2006 when US pressure to put him on trial for alleged war crimes increased.
Then, Mr Taylor suddenly disappeared while Mr Obasanjo was on his way to Washington to meet his US counterpart, George W Bush.
Then, equally suddenly, the Nigerians announced that they had arrested Mr Taylor for trying to escape.
The former Liberian leader told the court on Tuesday that Mr Obasanjo had earlier assured him he could leave the country freely.
He said Mr Obasanjo had lied to the world when he said that he, Mr Taylor, was trying to escape.
Mr Taylor said he hoped he would live to look Mr Obasanjo in the face one day and ask him to tell the truth about what happened.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/africa/8352575.stm He hoped he would live after the terror he caused during his reign as the President of Liberia. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: German Keeper Enke Commits Suicide by kizi: 10:12pm On Nov 10, 2009 |
BlueDiva: http://eurosport.yahoo.com/10112009/58/bundesliga-germany-keeper-enke-commits-suicide.html
Germany and Hanover goalkeeper Robert Enke has died at a level crossing after apparently driving into the path of an oncoming train.
More StoriesMaradona hauled before FIFA World Cup event page "Robert Enke died today in an accident," a media officer for the Niedersachsen Police told Reuters. "First indications point to suicide."
He was 32 years of age.
Hanover president Martin Kind was returning from a meeting with the German FA on Tuesday when he was telephoned with the news.
"You expect many things, but not something like that," he told German news agency DPA. "I do not know how and why it happened, but I do not think that it had anything to do with football."
Enke's two-year-old daughter Lara died two years ago from a heart defect.
The German FA stated: "The German team has learned of the death of Robert Enke with great shock. National team coach Joachim Loew and manager Oliver Bierhoff said 'we are all shocked, we are speechless'."
Enke became Germany's number one goalkeeper when Jens Lehmann retired after Euro 2008 but had just returned from a bacterial bowel infection which ruled him out of his country's last four games.
He played in Hanover's 2-2 draw with Hamburg at the weekend but was not selected for the upcoming friendlies against Chile and Ivory Coast.
Loew said he was still his first choice for the World Cup in South Africa next year, and that the decision was based on his recent return to fitness. He had eight caps. I saw the news on TV few minutes ago he was a good goalie he was outstanding in the game between Hannover96 vs Hamburg which they drew 2:2 on Saturday. R.I.P Robert ENKE! |
