EducationRe: Help I Just Had My First Carryover by KnowledgeIsPawa: 11:19am On Mar 20, 2022
You must have an answer to your question by now but because it is here. Let me answer for the benefit of any other interested party. No. an unregistered course is not entered as a carry-over. But it will obviously increase your work load in the following semesters or session as you must still take it ,especially if it is a compulsory course, meaning that you cannot graduate without doing it. So you must register and take it at a point in the course of your program, else you have an extra year. If it is not a compulsory course, you must register and another course taken at that level to satisfy your minimum number of units, which is also the same as saying that you cannot graduate, if your minimum number of units is not satisfied for that semester. In summary, an unregistered course does not factor into your GPA or CGPA but it is a debt you must pay, after which the result will be factored in.

Right about what?. That 5G causes coronavirus or that the government imposed shutdown to "dig" 5G? Or that viruses do not occur in nature or that Covid-19 vaccines are used to inject 666 chips into your body? Any faceless clown can claim any qualifications on the internet. If you really studied even basic science, you wouldn't be spouting all these ridiculous conspiracy theories on the internet.

Good morning house! Please i need help, a fairly used aus laptop sent to me from the US just arrived and a man from the EMS office at the post office called me and equally sent me a text to inform me that custom billed me #18,000, but i smell foul play. Please how do I know he's telling the truth?? What and what should I demand from him on getting there? Please someone should respond to me.
The duties depend on the declared value of the laptop. We don't have that information

So does this imply that if I buy heavy items that costs less than 50k (that costs 49k maybe), DHL or most especially UPS (FedEx has been quite reasonable and has never sent me such mails) or all those other yẹ̀yẹ́ expedited shipping companies are not supposed to send me message to pay duty into their account? UPS usually send a breakdown of all charges to my email.

And does this also imply that any item, no matter how big it is, that will attract duty is not channeled thru Speedaf?
It doesn't matter how big an item is. Duties are paid based on the cost of an item, not the weight. You have already paid shipping cost based on the weight.
Customs has no business with that, as far as it is not contraband . As they say, "wetin concern agbero with overland?" But this is technical. As you might know, duties include the shipping cost and insurance cost, if you paid any. Hence, by the time you pay to ship a big or heavy item, the shipping cost would have been enough to put the total cost over the top of the duties threshold.

The size of items delivered by Speedaf as the last mile courier might change at any time but at this time, they deliver small parcels. I am not sure what the weight limit is. It depends on the arrangement they have with aliexpress. Of course you know that aliexpress still uses NIPOST, DHL and others. It is basically a bike delivery for now. No trucks in Nigeria yet. They may be test-running the capabilities of Speedaf before the heavy lifting begins.

Only founded in 2019 and delayed by Covid-19, Speedaf ships only from China to emerging markets, including Nigeria which is fast becoming their biggest market. The Alibaba Group which owns the aliexpress own a good chunk of Speedaf. Hence, expect the carriage of heavy items as they strengthen out logistics capabilities in Nigeria. If you visit some of their offices, you will know that they are still trying to put things in place.

It seems the honeymoon phase with Speedaf is over. embarassed

I received a mail from them this evening

I asked to find out if home deliveries have ceased and the customer rep replied that the particular package was on Economy delivery and referred me to a phone number to contact if I would like to make delivery arrangements.

I guess FOC home deliveries for Cainiao Economy shipping have been discontinued.
My brother or sister, No one had any honeymoon phase with anyone and no one gave anyone anything for FOC. The Nigerian factor has just crept in. It is illegal, simple.

Didn't you observe that the original message sent to your phone says "pls be available for delivery " without mentioning any further charges . This is because aliexpress also automatically receives such messages in their system. When you check the tracking status, don't you notice that it says "problem, self pick up". The only time they ask you for money is when they you contact them directly. That correspondence doesn't get to aliexpress or Speedaf headquarters in China.

This was exactly how NIPOST started with their " handling charges" and "failure delivery ". It was when the management of NIPOST got the wind that Nigerians were readily paying their staff N200 and N500 because everyone is always excited to collect their parcels that they feel N200 is almost nothing compared to amount paid the items. Those "handling charges" are still not NIPOST formal income. They limit it to each post office to use as imprest.

Duties are different. They are the only cost you need to pay when your item arrives. But most Nigerians don't know that according to the law, they is a minimum limit for duties. In Nigeria, you are not supposed to pay duties for items less than N50, 000. For example, in the United States, it is $800. No one should be charging you handling charges. But the only way to stop it would be for someone to sue NIPOST. But who sues someone because they don't want to pay N200 for an item they are excited to receive? They know that. And they are an organ of government.

Free shipping is not actually free. You pay for it with the cost of an item, no matter how inexpensive. It is offset by economies of scale. But free shipping is free shipping. You are not expected to pay anything once it arrives, unless it qualifies for duties.

Hence, Speedaf Nigeria was not doing you any favour by "free" home delivery. It is part of their agreement with aliexpress and part of the settlement and retairnership. But those running it in Nigeria want to play a fast one and keep a chunk of the money they get from aliexpress, which actually owns shares in the company with headquarters in China. Speedaf Nigeria is an outsourcing partner.

The N500 they may collect from you or the fuel their riders will save for not coming to your house is actually a lot of money when put together. Unlike, NIPOST that is difficult to stop, Nigerians can stop this by complaining en mass to aliexpress customer care that they are collecting money for free shipping . The Nigerian franchise wouldn't want to lose their business with aliexpress. They actually only deliver items below the threshold of duties. So, no money should exchange hands.

alright thanks alot, dosnt apply to free shipping right?
Of course it can apply , if the particular store offers aliexpress standard shipping as free shipping. They decide the most effective method to ship it.

My order took about 15 days to get to me after it was shipped. That was why I wasn't even expecting it. I was doubting it until the courier guy came to the front of my house and called my number. In my mind, I was like ' for how much stuff nah?'

I believe Singapore Post has been taking too long and making sellers lose money because some orders still arrive after dispute settlement and refund of money. What I do personally is to reach out to the seller and make a dummy order.

So, Aliexpress now operates with Speedadaf Express.
When I received a text message that there was something to be delivered today from Speeddaf express, I thought it was a scam. I received a call later and picked up the stuff. It was surprising to me because it wasn't really an expensive stuff. I asked the courier man he said he started operating with Aliexpress in May.

Wetin concern agbero with overload? Custom is not a logistics company. They have no business with the weight. Fees depend of the value of your package. Hence, you have not supplied a useful information about your package for anyone to help to access the charges.
CrimeRe: A Crime Riddle For All Nlanders With Detective Minds by KnowledgeIsPawa:
I honestly think people should do better things with their time as there is nothing in the so called riddle that establishes the murderer.

In fact, there are so many things wrong with the writeup and the writer might have intentionally written it to mess with people's mind.

This has been posted in almost every other forum without the original writer showing up or solving the the riddle. This is becuase it has no answer

I have seen a version of something like this sometime ago and the simple answer is that the murderer killed the man. That is the whole point. The police laughed and arrested the murderer. So, who killed the man? Answer- The murderer killed the man.

Okay then....
The reason why I said im not saying I am right that the gateman was the culprit was in order to confirm that little detail of the party ( cos I mistook the night party for the one the wife left for in the morning)

That being said,

I'll like to point out that ATMs were available by then, and yes the man might have been stupid enough to give the driver his pin...

https://www.question.com/the-origin-of-atm-in-nigeria-124911.html#r100892

Also 2G mobile phones which allowed for SMS and internet connectivity to be possible were also available then,
Even satellite TV and cable TV were prominent features of very wealthy homes...
( IE mobile phones and satellite phones were possible)

And the son and his sons friends could have phones and also video games.

AND THESE ASSUMPTIONS ARE POSSIBLE BECAUSE HE WAS STINKINGLY WEALTHY..

Thus I still think whatever happened, the gateman should be privvy... But nevertheless...

It might have been a 2-man job.....( Someone that could benefit, and another accomplice)

But that doesn't mean it couldn't have been a 1-man job.

But who stands to benefit from the man's death?...

Before I give an answer can you confirm if it is a 2man job or not
It is okay if you decline to give the information, I can still make a guess without that piece of info
How old are you? Who told you 2G mobile phones and even internet was in Nigeria in 1992. Why not atleast read up before you say things you don't know with so much confidence?
TravelRe: Warning:stay Away From Royal Air Morrocan Airline Worse In Africa by KnowledgeIsPawa: 2:41pm On Jan 20, 2020
I am reading this thread a year and a half later but I couldn't resist the urge to reply to the. kagari man.
It's most unfortunate the way he kept attacking the OP. I don't think even the owners of the airline will attack her that much.

Kagari sounds like one of those people who are called smart alec . Just because you have a little knowledge of something, you assume you are an expert.

Personally, I have flown with Air Maroc and that was about 10 years ago. I knew it was a budget airline and I didn't expect much. Nothing significant happened on the flight for me to castigate them, apart from the fact that on one of the flights, I didn't like how luggages were packed in the cabin as if it is a molue. However, it is what it is. A low budget airline.

Having said that, Kagari added a lot of emotion to the defence of the airline, while at the same time accusing the OP of emotional arguments . The emotion of the OP is understandable because it was her experience. What I do not understand is the emotion of the Kagari man and why he has made it almost personal.

kagari was not on the flight with the OP and he didn't know exactly what the OP encountered and he was condescending enough to tell the OP what her claims are. This was even after she has given more details about how she wasn't the only one.

Kagari was not there, his argument is baseless. In this kind of case, he can only advise and even empathize, not make definitive statements.

The OP's experience might not have been as bad as she claimed or it might be exactly as she claimed. It might have been worse than she claimed. It might even be her fault. But she said it wasn't. I don't believe her, I cannot also accuse her of lying. We were not there.

It was her experience and there is no need for people like Kagari to be sanctimonious about it as if Air Maroc is beyond communication breakdown. Even the United Nations is not beyond communication breakdown.

Quit making this type of definitive statements about someone's predicament when you were not there. You should know that no organisation is perfect. Not to talk of Royal Air Maroc.

This useless machine also known as useless box has come to Nigeria.

Around 1930s Italian artist, Bruno Munari was not excited by new machines taking over every facet of life to the point that he designed his own machines and made sure they are useless.

The current design which is in the form of a box was invented by MIT Professor, Marvin Minsky in 1952. It has only one useless function. See it on youtube to believe it.

Good Afternoon.

I have a follow up on this case. LagosNIV has sent us an email that since she could not access her initial email address, she must appear in person to get the missing visa canceled. We are curious to know if she can just show up at the Lagos Consulate at any day and at any time or there is a particular time and day of the week to do so, as far as cases like this are concerned?

TravelRe: U.S. Non-immigrant Visas: We’re Listening by KnowledgeIsPawa: 1:14pm On Jul 12, 2017
Good afternoon AbujaNIV

I am writing on behalf of an old lady who is right now between a rock and a hard place. She is an elderly aunt of mine who was invited by her son after his wife had a child. She was granted a B1/B2 visa but that is the beginning of her predicament. Unfortunately, she lost her passport and belongings in a mall. Unaware of the process and also not computer literate, she had someone help her send an email to ustraveldocs instead of LagosNIV. Hence, usatraveldocs sent her a form email, telling her how to apply for a replacement visa when she has loses her valid visa. Apparently, that visa was not invalidated. Oblivious of this, she went on to apply for a replacement visa later, only to be told she already had a visa. The miss up ensured that she was rejected. Hence, we have been trying to rectify the issue. We have sent an email to LagosNIV but her biggest problem now is that she no longer has the documents where she entered the application email addresses and passwords. Since she was not computer literate, she was walked through the earlier application process by her tenant who helped her register an email and create a profile for the application on the portal. Now, she has lost those particulars where these information were written down, along with the passport. The young man remembers the email address, but he does not remember both the password to the email and the password to the application portal. Because he wrote them down for her somewhere which she has lost. Now, we wrote an email to LagosNIV about the lost passport/visa, using another email and the reply was that they do not have that new email on their records. They said she should use the original email address that she used to apply in order for the information to be processed.
My question is, since she no longer has access to that original email address, what should she do?

Hello VO

Great job you are doing here.

I have posted this question twice since last week but I was never replied.

Please I want to confirm the process of getting a replacement visa after reporting a missing passport with valid US visa to LagosNIV@state.gov and getting an acknowledgement.
Does one have to pay the visa fee all over again and schedule an interview through the same process? or is there any distinction in any way from a first time or fresh application , given the circumstances? The US visa has been used only once and still had more than 10 months of validity before the passport was missing.

Thanks

Hello abujaniv

If a journalist has a valid B1/B2 visa and needs an I Visa to be able cover and report an event in the States, does the B1/B2 visa need to be cancelled or can a passport hold both valid categories at the same time ? Of course an I visa is necessary since INA does not allow a holder of B1/B2 visa to report an event in that happened in the States, even when they have returned. Generally, can a passport hold more than one valid category of visa at the same time?
Thanks

Hello
Thanks for a great job.
Someone was recently refused a US visa and handed a blue royal executive bond paper. She later discovered that the paper is actually blank. Was it intentional or did the Consular Officer inadvertently handout a blank paper, thinking that it contains text? I do have a lot of experience about visa application issues, having traveled widely but this one sure befuddles me.
Thanks.
