PoliticsArmy Chief Escapes Assassination Attemp by KoboUP(op): 6:54pm On Sep 11, 2015
The head of Burundi’s armed forces has survived an assassination attempt in the capital Bujumbura, police said, adding that at least seven other people were killed in the attack.

“There was an attack against the armed forces chief, General Prime Niyongabo, but happily he was unharmed,” Burundi’s deputy police chief, General Godefroid Bizimana, told AFP news agency.

He said two attackers were killed in the clash, and a third arrested.

Another senior police source said four bodyguards were also killed, as well as a female police officer.

“Reinforcements have arrived. We are pursuing the remainder of the commandos,” Bizimana.

Another senior police source, who asked not to be named, said the attack appeared to have been “meticulously prepared”.

“It was sudden and violent. Four bodyguards were killed instantly. He managed to survive only because the driver managed to overtake a bus transporting police officers to work, and the attackers could not keep up,” said the source, adding that the attackers were wearing military uniforms and travelling in a military vehicle.

Tensions remain high in the central African nation following President Pierre Nkurunziza’s successful bid for a third term in power in July.

Nkurunziza won a highly-controversial third term in July in polls the United Nations said were not free or fair.

His bid sparked an attempted coup and months of civil unrest led by opposition groups, who condemned his re-election bid as unconstitutional.

There has also been a string of killings since his re-election, including the assassination of his top security chief in a rocket attack last month.

Many have raised alarm bells at the risk of renewed conflict in Burundi, which lies in the heart of central Africa’s troubled Great Lakes region.

At least 300,000 people were killed in a civil war there which ran from 1993-2006.

FashionHow To Find Your Perfect Pair Of Classic Black Trousers- FOR HER by KoboUP(op): 11:13pm On Sep 08, 2015
Black trousers are a staple in most women’s wardrobes no matter the season.  But for many women, finding the perfect pair seems like mission impossible.
Here are my top tips on what to look out for:

The waistband: Where the waistband sits makes a big difference to the fit, especially for your tummy.  Look out for a slightly higher cut that ends just on or below your belly button.  These will be much easier to find in stores since the fashion is shifting from hipster to high-waisted.

This will give you extra tummy support and make it much easier to wear shorter, more fitted tops. If you can find a pair with a wide waistband…even better.

The cut: Your ideal cut will depend on your body shape.  If you want to de-emphasise your hips, bum and thighs then a bootleg or straight leg will work best for you.

The wideleg/ flair trouser is making a comeback, so give those a try.  Just make sure that they fit well in the waist and hip and flare from just above your widest point so they give you shape.

If you are happy with your bottom half, then feel free to play with skinny or slim leg styles.  To update your look, opt for a high-waisted pair this season.

The length: To make your legs look as long as possible, I recommend full-length trousers or just above, on or below your knee.

¾ lengths actually make your hips look wider and your legs look shorter.  If you don’t believe me, try shortening one leg of your ¾ length trousers to just above, on or below your knee and see for yourself.

The flared hem trouser is making a huge comeback.  This is great for elongating legs as you can wear a high heel underneath and no one will be the wiser.  Make sure your flared hem covers the top of your shoe for this effect.

CultureAbia State: The Great Lion Of The East by KoboUP(op): 12:15am On Sep 04, 2015
Carved out of Imo State in 1990, Abia can be described as the tourism heart of the South East. It is blessed with amazing tourism sites, caves and relics of Nigeria’s distressing past – the Biafra war, slave trade and colonial history.
In addition, the people’s appreciation of culture is laudable as it has not been polluted despite the advent of civilization. The culture is celebrated through festivals, community gatherings and other traditional social events by its people famed for their ferociousness in battle.

Top Three Sites
The Long Juju Shrine of Arochukwu
The history of the Long Juju of Arochukwu evokes nostalgic feelings in tourists. The shrine has served different purposes at various times. Before its world-acclaim status, it served as a court for resolving conflicts among natives. Later, it became a key transatlantic slave trade route to ship slaves from Nigeria to Europe, America and other parts of the world.

The Long Juju Shrine of Arochukwu is on the tentative list of UNESCO’s World Heritage Site and is located in Arochukwu which is 100 kilometres from Umuahia, the state capital.

The Azumini Blue River
This is a priced possession of the people of Azumini. The Blue River is a rare spectacle. The effect of relaxing by this unique river is one of satisfaction, appreciation and magnificence. It attract tourists from different parts of the world and is located in Umuahia Ibeku. It is a nice place to have an unforgettable honeymoon or picnic.

The National War Museum
If you want to learn about the Nigerian Civil war between 1967 and 1970, the National War Museum is the place to visit. It houses the artifacts collected from that trying period in the nation’s history and gives an awesome insight into how its people fought for their lives and survived. It was established in 1985.

Lodging
Abia spans an area of 6,320 km. This is a large expanse of land when compared with other states in the same region. With this size, comes the influx of business men who have established a vibrant hospitality industry. There are comfortable hotels that tourists can lodge in and snore away till dawn. These hotels which can be found on Jovago.com are Luxury City Royale, Merry Home Hotels, Binez Hotels Ltd, Shelton Hotels Ltd and Hotel De Laurel. These hotels are inexpensive.

Eating
From indigenous food to continental cuisines, there are restaurants where you can satisfy your taste buds. They include Madam Afro Restaurant, Jabba Inn, Lip licking, Linpet Restaurant and Restaurant Pafidel.

Shopping
This town is the main trade centre in Abia state. The popularity of Aba extends far beyond the state to other parts of the country. The parlance ‘made in Aba’ is closely associated with the city as tourists can buy locally made goods like shoes, bags and clothes from the markets scattered across around the state capital. It is interesting to know that the goods are affordable.
However, if you want to do classy and quality shopping, you can visit the Aba Mega Mall, Uzortex Shopping Centre, Galadima Shopping centre and Prince & Princess Shopping Plaza.

Fun fact
Aba is considered the home for made in Nigeria goods. Known as the unofficial production capital of Nigeria, its knack for imitating foreign made goods has made this city thrive for years. Thanks to the industrious nature of the people.

Travel5 Exciting Reasons To Travel To Northern Nigeria by KoboUP(op): 11:29pm On Sep 03, 2015
https://www.koboup.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/2147483516.jpg
Nigeria’s northern region is a maligned part of the country. Made up of 3 geopolitical zones, the north have been saddled with numerous diatribes some of which are untrue. Considering the security situation, many Nigerians have made it a point of duty not to visit making it a pariah territory.
This skepticism can be observed in the mass redeployment of corps members posted there by the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) to other states of the federation perceived as ‘safe’.
In spite of the negativity, this region is blessed with amazing characteristics that have equipped it with the capacity to dominate Nigeria’s political and economic scene.

1).Hospitable
Inhabited by Fulani, Hausa, Nupe and other ethnic tribes, the average Northerner is very hospitable.
In fact, they are blessed with so much warmth that leave visitors in awe. They will offer you free rides, housing and give correct prices for a merchandise. The welcome soothes you with a feeling of being at home away from home!

2).Exotic tourist attractions
The tallest mountain seats in Taraba state, Chappal Waddi; Jos is a wonderful destination with cool weather; Kogi holds Nigeria’s colonial relics; Bauchi has the Yankari National park and there are many other destinations spread across the 19 states that make up the region. You can savour Nigeria’s beauty, culture and wealth here.

3).Food basket of the nation
Benue is tagged the food basket of the nation as the best of farm products come from there. The farmland is very fertile and large expanse of arable soil are cultivated with cash and food crops. The harvest made feeds the nation as crops are transported to Lagos and other parts of the country.
A clear example is found in the past where groundnut and rice pyramids in Kanoreigned as the nation’s major source of export income. This lends credence to the solid agricultural background of Northern Nigeria.

4).Affordable
The cost of living in the North is inexpensive. Housing, food, transport and other life necessities are cheap – a huge advantage this territory has over other Nigerian regions.

5).Education
Many prospective Nigerian students are trooping to the North for university education. They are taking advantage of the central government’s policy on lowering the cut-off mark for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) in less educationally developed states, giving more students access to secure admission in Northern Universities.

CrimeNSCDC Arrest Suspect With 154 Kegs Of Petroleum Products by KoboUP(op): 12:09am On Sep 03, 2015
The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on Tuesday said it had arrested one Sunday Ewaranwon alleged to have 150 kegs of 50 litres of petroleum products.
The Lagos State Commandant of the corps, Grabriel Abafi, made the allegation while speaking with journalists.
Abafi said that the suspect, 30, was arrested by a marine team of the Anti-Vandal Unit of NSCDC at about 10.30 p.m. on August 28.
“The product which was loaded in a wooden boat powered with 30-horsepower engine at a creek around Ikorodu was intercepted at Ijora area of Lagos.
“The kegs were packaged in such a way that portrays that they are proceeds from vandalised petroleum pipelines.
“When it was converted to litres, it amounted to 7,700 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) product.
“And with the current pump price of petrol, he is having with him about N669, 900 worth of PMS in one illegal trip,” Abafi said.
Abafi also said that another 33 empty extra kegs of 50 litres each were also found with him, adding that his partner named Godbless was on the run.
“Efforts to arrest his partner is ongoing as he will be caught very soon,” he said.

PoliticsThe Truth Behind Nigeria’s Improved Power Supply by KoboUP(op): 11:25pm On Sep 02, 2015
If you have been wondering what magic wand President Muhammadu Buhari has deployed in the Nigerian power sector that has accounted for the generally perceived improved power supply in the country, the answer may not be what you think.

It is not magic. It is simply that there has been zero vandalisation of the country’s pipeline of gas supplying the power stations, since Buhari came to power in May.

The Permanent Se‎cretary, Ministry of Power, Mr ‎Godknows Igali unveiled the secret while fielding questions from State House correspondents in Abuja on Monday.

He emphasized that no single case of gas pipeline vandalism has been recorded since President Muhammadu Buhari assumed office.

The permanent secretary was reacting to questions on what has been responsible for the recent improvement in electricity supply across the country.

Igali recalled that vandalism of gas pipelines was common in the last days and months of the previous administration, and reached its peak on the May 26 when gas-generated electricity was completely grounded.

“The gas is now passing to the gas pipelines and I think that the government has been engaging the communities and the places where these gas infrastructures pass through.

“We hope it will be sustained because like I said there is a conscious engagement and is redoubled. Redouble means that there was effort and when there was effort and you put additional effort and additional effort, then, it means that you have redoubled your work and that is what is going on and at different levels the engagement of where the pipelines passed.

“We saw tremendous vandalism, especially before the handover. It has never been so bad. But, now for nearly three months not a single day have we had that kind of vandalism. It is our prayer that this will continue.”

According to him, the Federal Government has been engaging stakeholders where the pipelines pass through to allow peace to reign.

He said this action had resulted in increased gas supplies and improved power supply nationwide with about 4,600 megawatts.

Igali explained that ‎apart from President Muhammadu Buhari building on efforts of past government and tasking stakeholders to double efforts, Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo had been holding almost daily meetings with power distribution companies (DISCOs) on ways of improving power supply to consumers.

“It is no miracle but a lot of work being directed by President Buhari and Vice-President Osinbajo, and people are working in more a concerted manner to achieve the prevailing results,” he said.

He dismissed the insinuation that power supply improved because of increased rains, saying that the hydro power stations in Kainji and Shiroro contributed “about 20 per cent of the entire electricity and no substantial additions come from there”.

PoliticsBuhari Tells Youths- “I Will Make Nigeria The Nation Of Your Dreams” by KoboUP(op): 11:11pm On Sep 02, 2015
President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday in Abuja assured Nigerian youths that the ongoing anti-corruption campaign would secure their future.

In an address to members of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) who marched to the Presidential Villa to pledge their full support for his anti-corruption campaign, President Buhari promised that he will do his best to place Nigeria well on the way to becoming the nation of their dreams.

“Everything you have asked for are the things that will make for a good country, and what we are after is a good country, a country where our youths can have a future and a hope.

“We are totally committed to building a country where our youths can realize their full potential.

“You can be assured that your welfare and well-being are topmost in our minds and very soon you will see the things we have promised come to fruition.

“During the campaigns, change was our slogan, but today it is no longer a mere slogan, it is now a reality and we will see it in every facet of our lives.

“The youths will feel it, the adults will feel it and old people will feel it and we will get the country of our dreams,” the President, who was represented by his Special Adviser (Media & Publicity), Femi Adesina, said.

Mr. Adesina later received a document addressed to President Buhari from the NANS President, Comrade Tijani Usman Shehu, and he promised that the President will look into their requests.

In his remarks, Shehu said the students were united against corruption, cyber crime, prostitution, human trafficking, drug abuse and other anti-social vices.

“Nigerian students demand that our future must be secured and we strongly believe in the President’s zero tolerance for corruption,” he said.

HealthOver 190,000 Nigerian Children Die Of Diarrhoea Yearly Says NMA by KoboUP(op): 11:03pm On Sep 02, 2015
https://www.koboup.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/Children-playing-football-on-the-street.jpg
Dr Jude Oko, a member of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Abuja chapter, has said that at least 190,000 children die of diarrhoea in Nigeria every year.
Oko, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Wednesday, described the situation as regrettable, and emphasised the need for regular hand washing, which he said, was crucial in preventing the disease.

“The very simple act of hand washing with soap can save hundreds of thousands of children who needlessly die every year.”

Oko added that regular hand washing with soap had become even more necessary in view of the ongoing effects of contaminated water from floods in some parts of the country.

According to him, diarrhoea is a frequent and excessive discharge of the bowels, producing thin and watery stools, usually a symptom of gastro-intestinal infection.

Oko, who stressed the need for increased sensitization about the ailment, said that diarrhoea could be treated with Oral Rehydration Salt (ORS) and zinc tablet for fast relief and energy restoration.

“ There is need to educate people on the use of ORS and zinc as the best recommended treatment for diarrhoea disease.’’

He stressed the need to strengthen the practice of hand washing in schools and communities across the country in order to reduce the risk of death of children under the age of five.

According to Oko, in Nigeria, many children are not healthy due to intake of unclean water, hence the need to move round schools to educate children on how best to wash their hands after using the toilet and before eating.

“Diarrhoea and other hygiene-related illnesses can be deadly for young children.

“Simple strategies such as good hygiene are critical in preventing these hygiene-related diseases,’’ he added.

Car Talk2015 Jaguar Xf Review by KoboUP(op): 12:13am On Sep 02, 2015
https://www.koboup.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/jaguar-xf-front.jpg
The XF was an important car for Jaguar – charged, as it was back in 2007, with wafting away the pipe-and-slipper image that lingered with the Jaguar brand. And it did it.

Yes, it had its issues, as design guru Ian Callum unashamedly pointed whilst standing in the shadow of its successor. And as the sun set behind the mountains surrounding of northern Spain’s stunning Navarra region Ian citied the small grille, compromised interior space and lack of comparative stance.

So what’s different with the all-new XF? Well those three points have been duly fixed for starters.

It’s shorter, but actually looks longer – thanks to a rigid new shoulder line and extended wheelbase.

It’s lower slung, but packs a bunch of extra headroom in the back.
https://www.koboup.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/jaguar-xf-2016.jpg
And it’s lighter too. Much lighter. Thanks to Jaguar’s state-of-the-art aluminium chassis that not only makes the XF stronger than ever but sheds 190kg off its predecessor’s bulk.

The freshly engorged grille up front, re-profiled headlamps and purposeful-looking new air intakes that dominate the lower portion of its new face do an awesome job – especially in the sportier, top-of-the-line S spec we tested. While the elongated rear light clusters, lower body kit and twin exhaust pipes deliver the desired top exec stance.

And I didn’t just put the breed’s new 3.0-litre V6 supercharged petrol heart to good use on Navarra’s beautifully smooth mountain roads either.

Lapping-up the opportunity, I stretched this hot Jag’s legs on track too – the F1-primed Circuito de Navarra. But what impressed me most about this unarguably agile exec with it’s precise steering and torquey rear-end was it’s unflappable composure even when the hammer is fully down.

It’s fast but never in the truly shocking sense that an XJR is. Mistakenly hit the anchors mid-apex and it’s still got you all the way. It wants to flatter you. Keep you looking good even if you’re driving really rather bad – and it’s that kind of cover that makes it worth its weight when you’ve got 380hp under your eager right foot.
https://www.koboup.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/jaguar-xf-interior.jpg
But this is no race car – even though it’s rear lights are directly inspired by the E-Type and F-Type. This is a car to drive, in classy comfort, to the VIP paddock club car park in.

So, do the inner quarters live up to it’s sharpened-up new exterior? In a word… yes.

Inside, the XF has always extolled a state of occasion albeit not one that would ever consider trumping the XJ.

From the James Bond-esque theatre of the automatically revolving air-vents which greet you on start-up – yes, there still there – to rear-window blinds, rotary gear selector and the finest fluted Windsor leather seats. It even salutes it’s bigger brother with a great deep-dish steering wheel and wears it’s ‘Riva Hoop’ – that beautiful trim line that wraps round from the centre of the dash right through to the doors. The XF has surly taken a step further up the luxury ladder.

But the XF’s piece de resistance – beyond all the autonomous driving systems (parking, traffic, cruising, low-grip situations, etc.) and the Audi-esque, 12” TFT drivers screen – is the new infotainment system.

Called InControl Touch Pro – it’s still in its Beta testing phase, but we got the scoop on the new 10.2-inch widescreen tech and totally fell for it over the current non-Pro system. With all the intuitive swipe, drag and pinch appeal of an iPhone and slick graphics to match, Jaguar will hammer the competition when this rolls out later in the year.

In fact, this is one option box you can’t afford to ignore when speccing-up and XF. Well, that and the accompanying 17-speaker, 825W Meridian sound system to match, of course. Collars and cuffs, right?
https://www.koboup.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/jaguar-xf.jpg
The XF gets a sweet range of powertrains too – and a surprising stickshift option if the supremely silky 8-speed auto with paddle-shifters is bizarrely not your thing.

There’s a choice of two state-of-the-art, 2.0-litre Ingenium diesels (161hp/177hp) capable of up to 70mpg and a more powerful 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged V6 diesel (297hp) too.

And then there’s the 3.0-litre supercharged V6 petrol of course – our pick of the bunch – and also the only option Stateside albeit with a choice of 340hp or 380hp outputs and all-wheel drive too.

Weather we get the AWD option further down the line remains to be seen – so until then we’ll just have to keep things rear-wheel driven.

So, has XF got those pesky German rivals properly pinned down this time with its sharpened claws and tasty new tech? Actually. Yes. The new business class benchmark has arrived. And it’s British.

The strategic role it plays in Nigeria’s history cannot be overemphasized. It was the hub for the fight against colonialism and struggle for independence, served as the former capital of Nigeria, and now is the largest urban State in Africa.

With these accolades, it automatically becomes the choice place to reside in Nigeria. But, as a visitor, where can you live in this city that never sleeps, always buzzing with activities and has no room for the lazy?

The only difference is that Ikoyi is the hub for many government institutions as this was the place where members of the colonial government lived during the nation’s pre-Independence era. It is a classy place to reside. If you cannot afford the steep price in Victoria Island, Ikoyi is a very good alternative.

5).Yaba
Yaba is an interesting mix of the inexpensive and the well-to-do. It is a place that mainly attracts students, due to the presence of a University and Technical College as well as middle-class Lagosians.

Traveling as a group can be fun especially if you are with friends, family or colleagues.
If you there is a wedding, christening, retreat, conference, religious convention, or vacation around the corner, rather than sojourning alone, it is safer and enjoyable to travel with other people who share the same interests.
While this serves as a prudent means to trim the expenses accrued on each trip, planning this nature of travel could be time-consuming and frustrating. If poorly organised, the journey could go awry especially long distance journey from Lagos to Kano.
To prevent this incident from occurring, Jovago.com, Africa’s No 1 hotel booking portal shares 6 exciting tips on how to put together a smooth trip for a group of people.

1).Agree on a price
This is the first thing that should be agreed upon when planning. Depending on the cost of renting the bus and the number of people who have signified their interest in embarking on the trip, a fair amount distributed evenly among the party can be contributed.
Also, ensure a deadline for payment is agreed upon, with reasonable expiration dates agreed upon.

2).Get a comfortable vehicle
Getting a plane or bus in excellent condition is important. If you want to enjoy your journey without complaining of intermittent stops on the highway or cramps, invest in a ‘good’ vehicle.
In addition, it is key that a driver who is familiar with the route being taken is employed for the journey otherwise you and your fellow travellers may keep running circles and miss the purpose of the trip.

3).Send reminders
This may be by word-of-mouth or text messages but as long as proper messages on the schedule of the trip are communicated to the right people on time, you should have detailed feedback from your team before setting out. Reminders can include a date, amount in cash required for each trip and the time for departure.

4).Do not leave late
Consider distance, traffic, security and the condition of the road before hitting the road. If it is too late to travel, make suitable prior arrangements to sleepover at a safe stop.

5).Do not pay the driver early
If the driver is hired for a long period of time, do not make the mistake of paying them immediately you arrive at your destination as he may disappear with the money, leaving you and your friends stranded in an unknown place. This will prompt you to make alternative arrangements.
However, it is important you make the driver happy. If you will be sharing meals during the trip, give him a pack and when making arrangements for a sleepover take him into consideration. You will be guaranteed a smooth trip back to your various homes if you do this.

6).Account for everyone
There have been reports of people going missing when on a group trip. It is better to wait and ensure that everyone is in the bus before you leave. Do not leave anyone behind, if anything happens to them, you will be found culpable.

CultureSimple Tips On How To Revive The Nigerian Culture by KoboUP(op): 10:54pm On Sep 01, 2015

Nigeria’s culture is invaluable and priceless. It is what defines us as a nation. Without it, we lose our identity and it is important that all efforts are made to ensure that it does dissipate in the face of a western invasion. This revival needs to cut across all the fabric of our social life-dressing, language, cuisine, and social interactions which have been kicked to the back seat.

1).Moral instructions
Remember this subject in primary school? As the name implies, it is to teach children ethics such as honesty, respect, cleanliness, culture, truthfulness and integrity. This helped children outside the four walls of their homes and school. However, moral instructions is rarely taught in school these days. More importance is attached to maths and English. There will be significant changes if this is made a core subject in Nigerian curriculum and schools. #BringBackMoralInstructions

2).Pleading with Parents
Parents have key roles to play. Family is the smallest cell of any society. If the family fails, the society fails. Present day reality has parents and their children competing with each other when it comes to abuse of morality. With the display of unhealthy behaviors, they lose the temerity to caution the younger generation. This needs to change as each parent’s duty is direct their children to the right path.

3).Educate the young
Young people are expected to be the promoters of culture but this generation does not seem to be interested in it. The craze to adopt foreign belief system is overwhelming and youths need to see the value of Nigeria’s culture. Conferences should be organized for them so that they can see the value in our culture. The more young people appreciate our culture, the less people have to worry about anti-social behaviors.

4).Learn from the past
The past is a perfect compass for the future. Recall a time when women left the doors of their stores unlocked and unmanned through the night without the fear of being robbed crossing her mind. This was the degree of trustworthiness and sincerity members of communities has with each other. If you try it today, everything in your store will disappear in a jiffy! That past can be restored if efforts are made to teach children the importance of being responsible.
