I've been good. I didn't reply? I'd check.
I will really like us to continue because i am genuinely curious as to what draws you to the Republican Party?
Of all the republican supporters here, you certainly seem to me to be better literate than all of them so I'm eager to discuss our ideological differences.

What is your disdain for liberals and how exactly do you think the republicans are better off than them?

I'm sure you've looked at the statistics and seen that predominantly educated people align more with the democrats while uneducated, ignorant and fanatical Christians align more with the conservatives.
I believe that you're neither of these, so pray tell, what draws you to the republicans?

STOP SPEWING this .. the democratic party didn't realign, what happened was they changed strategy. They realized they were losing without the support of the minorities and decided to change strategy. The new strategy... support minority movements and strongholds, the effect policies that will keep them down as minions. Its really ridiculous when people like you just jump and make axioms like reds are racist and blues are liberal. In reality racism WILL NEVER die. We all have some form of bigotry in us. Its human. The real yardstick for supporting a movement should be based on quality of policies and how it affects the community. In today's political clime, the blues in a bid to wrestle power would support anti law and order movements. The real losers the participants and minorities. The truth is that nobody will build our communities but us. Whether its democrats or Republicans...the blsckman has to build his community like the mexicans, chinese, indians are doing here. When it comes to policies the Republicans provide better policies and are a lot more conservative. Look at joe biden.... suddenly he's not racist...i laugh... atleast there's a video online where he came out openly to describe blacks as DEGENS...who need to be locked up.. i have dug the internet for a similar video where trump did same all i see is countless pics of him with blacks in the 80s and 90s all smiles and even videos with him dissing a kkk troll that came to his campaign. I looked for a single pix with biden and blacks in the 80s and 90s. NON.. Now if I dont vote him...i ain't black.....plsssss
How exactly does your brain function?? Calm down and read your post again and tell me if you see any sense in it.
I replied your fellow cultist basilico who keeps repeating the same nonsense about the party alignments in the US only for you to bring in a trump vs Biden comparison (which Biden still is still better than).

Go and read up your American history well rather than spewing rubbish.

Tell me, to majority of the blacks in the US, which presidents have done more for them and to which party do they belong??

Which party has installed liberal judges that has upheld laws that favour blacks more and which party still seeks to disenfranchise black people and employ gerrymandering tactics that disfavor and underrepresent black people?

Which party do the civil rights leaders embrace and which party do open white racists embrace today?

Which party embraces immigrants from all parts of the world, set up safe sanctuary cities for their safety and welfare and which party wishes to chase back all immigrants and block others (including your family members) from going there?

when you truthfully answer these questions, then you realize how foolish you have been in selling your brain to racist white men? Learn your history and stop consuming faux news.

basilico:
As far as I know the Republican party was against slavery, is against slavery and will always be against slavery.
Can the same be said for the democrats?
Again basilico, you need to get your facts right.
Yes indeed, the Republican Party was solidly against slavery because they were liberal republicans and were also against the Jim crow laws while the democrats were for slavery.

BUT in the early 1900's, a realignment happened. The democrats were split into two factions, the dixiecrats in the south and the democrat liberals in the north, the former produced presidents like Woodrow Wilson and Truman while the latter produced presidents like FDR, JFK and Lyndon Johnson who changed from the former to the latter.

Now, in the 1960's, a strong realignment took place within both parties. The liberal democrats took firm power within the party with the election of JFK and these liberal democrats fought firmly for the equal rights of black people and minorities, permanently relegating the dixiecrats in their party to the background and embracing the black civil rights leaders hence the situation till date.
Now the Republican party itself that was once liberal now fully went further right and embraced the disgruntled former dixiecrats in the south and produced a president like Nixon. Nixon came to power on the rhetoric of "law and order" because after the consistent assassinations of JFK and civil rights leaders, black people stood up to revolt. The Republicans started pushing for a reversal of civil rights and forms of disenfranchisement of the black people. The racist southern states like Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Mississippi, the Carolina's, etc went from solidly blue to solidly red. While the liberal northern states like newyork, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Chicago, Michigan etc went from solidly red to solidly blue.

Please learn your history and stop peddling falsehoods. The Republican Party of today is far from the Republican Party of Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt. It is now a minority party that embraces far right groups and racists movements.
Stop listening to Fox News that plays to white grievances.

It's very shameful seeing black men spout the same narratives that aggrieved rasicts spew. Rubbish Things like "there is no racism anymore". It is "media invented". All these are very false narratives that people can actually see. Enough said.

You are one hell of a brainwashed fellow. Once any opinion don't agree with yours, you people will automatically term it "fake news" or rigged. You will then proceed to hear and read your news from the genuine alternative facts platforms on facebook or Fox News.

Foreign AffairsRe: American Politics Thread: Trump Is The 47th President! by kofimoses: 2:47am On Sep 15, 2020
Disstroy, America has now become a hotbed of social unrest because you have a leader who throws all forms of civility out the window. A leader who doesn't care how his word's incite violence, a leader who lacks the capacity to act as a mediator between factions.

Trump feeds on the fear of his followers, he seeks to constantly keep his followers apprehensive and fearful of their fellow countrymen despite being a leader for all.
He has cemented the division that plagues America and the end product is the breaking point of tensions and the ensuing break down of law and order.

You say he interacts with the people via his social media, this is blatantly false, as you can see, he doesn't "interact" with anybody, all he does is spread and amplify his very controversial and divisive rhetoric. That's not interaction, that's simply having a wider platform to sow discord.

I don't know what you mean by "demystifying the presidency". Americans have always taken pride in the fact that their leaders are very accessible, the white house is very open for all citizens once you apply, as a matter of fact, it can be argued that trump has began insulating the people from their white house by being the first president to set up further walls and barricades from it.

You can't argue that the trump's administration is one of the most corrupt administrations the US has ever seen and the most nepostic in recent memories with his own family members filling senior executive positions and the obvious financial conflict of interest.

Lastly, it can be said boldly that TRUMP IS THE MOST UNPRESIDENTIAL PRESIDENT.

DissTroy:
Religion is just a set of doctrines. If you mean religion in terms of going to Sunday services and dancing and all the antics they engage in on regular days? No. That's nonsense.

You can be religious and not be spiritual. Religions is based on doctrines adhere to in the cause of understanding God or anything you serve. Spirituality with God is your personal relationship with God.

A religious person would flood the pages of Nairaland or pray the loudest in church to impress onlookers but might be worse off privately. A spiritual person knows those quiet moments of solitude mean more, and it shows in the way he approaches life even when he knows nobody is watching 'cause there's a supreme being (God) watching. smiley

One of the first things you'd learn in any philosophy class or from any such book is, question everything and only accept them as true until the facts can be analyzed. In this age and time, anyone who depends on one or two sources as his sole information hub is a fóól.

WikiLeaks, for example, is trusted by almost everyone outside the corridors of government power but I cross-check what I read from there. When Julian Assange was negotiating his freedom and right of passage with the Ecuadorian government while finding refuge in its London Embassy, he could have been turned. He could have done anything to gain favour with them. There are so many sources for information (which have antecedence of being relatively unbiased). I'd never depend on just one.
A truly educated and rational persons gets several versions of any issue and perspectives of it before forming his own opinion on the said issue.
I was about getting into the trump issue before you posted your reply.

First of all, I see how you disingenuously discredited Obama's precedence and appraised Trump for something's that could only have been possible but for Obama.

You focused on two things in your effusion of praise for Trump. Military foreign policy and the economy. But you have conveniently left out that Obama left behind a relatively good, growing and stable economy and also a relatively peaceful globe.

You are giving an extremely simplistic view of the whole issue. For instance, you are praising Trump for not starting any war and criticizing Obama but this same Obama ran on a platform of anti war rhetoric. He was staunchly against the Iraq War started falsely by the bush administration and began pulling out the troops from Iraq and started campaigning for peace and justice in the Middle East. A campaign that got him the Nobel peace prize and started the Arab spring, a revolution that paradoxically led to the war in Afghanistan. If you know you're history well, you'll know that Obama did not wish to engage the US military in further wars in the Middle East but events called for it namely the chaos of the ensuing Arab spring which the terrorist further capitalized on and Russia's growing involvement in the Middle East and it's annexation of Crimea forced Obama's hand.
Finally, It's actually somehow a negative paradox when we have to be happy that a US president does not start a war.

Now unto the economy, Obama inherited a shambolic economy from the bush administration and turned it around and set it on a path of a stable upward mobility which trump inherited (again, unlike the economy bush left behind) and now, the economy has fallen flat because of trump's ineptitude in handling the crises.

Furthermore you say you like trump because he doesn't care about being politically correct but there is a reason it is named so. A political leader bears the responsibility of leading EVERYONE irrespective of differences in beliefs. To do this effectively, a political leader has to be very careful with his utterances in order not to sow discord amongst his subjects or incite violence against his fellow subjects, that births the term politically correct, they are simply some controversial words and terms a political leader should avoid in order to maintain civility, harmony and peace.

When a popular politician begins to breach this wall and throws caution to the wind, violence and social unrest ensues, which is what you are seeing.
Foreign AffairsRe: American Politics Thread: Trump Is The 47th President! by kofimoses: 12:31am On Sep 15, 2020
Disstroy, let me give you my own answers so that maybe you could follow my model in order for this to be easy for both of us and the readers.

On the question of ideology. The pure definition and concept of liberalism is to be open-minded to new knowledge and deconstructing preconceived social barriers while conservatism is the puritanical preservation and maintaining of the traditional societal norms.
In simple terms, one is open minded and the other is close minded and seeks to maintain status quo.
Having pointed that out, I am a moderate liberal. It's important to point out my moderation because there is extremism on both spectrum.
I support the fundamental basic rights and equality for all people irrespective of sex, gender and sexual orientation.
I support the right of choice of a pregnant woman.
I support the repeal of the 2nd amendment and the complete dearmament of the masses.
I am irreligious and freethinking. I do not subscribe to any particular religion.
I am a pacifist and staunchly anti-military.
I am fiscally conservative.
These are a part of my personal ideology.

On the question of sources of information.
I listen to all top rated media corporations and try my best to seive out propaganda.
I watch both CNN and fox. I subscribe to Washington Post and the times. I also have the daily mail app on my phone. I subscribe to both conservative and democrats channels on YouTube.

This is so that i don't fall into social media echo chambers that only tell me what i want to hear. I listen to both sides.

To be continued.

DissTroy:
I have admitted to (over the years on Nairaland) a number of things about me (some on this thread) which a few who have interacted with me off-Nairaland can attest to:
Am I religious? While I believe in the concept of God, in recent years I have willed myself to be as less religious as possible.
I am probably the least religious person on this thread because I believe religion is nothing but organized with rules seeking to dictate our every activity. You've probably attended church last year more times than I have in the last 6 years.

I focus more on spirituality than religion so, yes, I subscribe to the Christian faith in that concept but I disagree with a lot of things (doctrines and the almost literal or transliterated interpretation of the Bible, for example). I'd never regard any person as my "spiritual father".
Worse even, I avoid people who are overly-religious 'cause with certainty, they are fanatics. Don't ever tell me "My pastor said...". I'd avoid you from thence.
Liberalism or Conservativism?
I am a cross between being liberal and conservative (people call such people "centrists"wink but with the contemporary interpretation of liberalism, I tilt more towards being conservative, politically especially.
Most trusted sources of information?
Sources without an obvious horse in any race. A Scottish newspaper is less likely to be biased about football reporting about a London derby than Manchester and Liverpool newspapers. The later have rivalries or indirect rivalries which would influence the reporting.
I'd never accept a Fox News or CNN reporting at face value. I'd dig further because they have horses in the race (pro-Right and pro-Left).
I read from multiple sources and get raw feelers from real people with nothing to gain or lose directly which way an issue goes. Whistleblowing sources are one of them.
Julian Assange of WikiLeaks had nothing to gain or lose by releasing the Hillary Clinton dossier in 2016. That's just one example.

What draws me to a figure like Trump?
I've stated on this thread over time that my affinity for Trump is, with him what you see is what you get. If he's going to call you an 'idiot', he would publicly. If he hates you, he'd tell you to your face. And he's not down with the politically correct culture. And he's doing everything he said he would while he sook to become POTUS.
With Trump, you know what to expect. He's not going to claim to welcome all illegal immigrants before the media then end up building cages like Obama did with the ICE program.
Hillary has been a political jobber all her adult life and has done nothing for the minority community which she claims her party represents.

Bill Clinton feigned a nice guy person almost as lovable as Reagan and JFK but imprisoned more black men than any other US President in history.
Politically correct culture is synonymous with hypocrisy.
Obama feigned a nice guy persona then went on to arm militias-cum-terrorists during the Arab Spring which swelled the ranks of ISIS and made Boko Haram become a terror group from 2016 then culminating into ISWAP and other factions.
He did nothing for the black community even when he promised them a lot.
He escalated wars and invaded countries when he claimed he'd withdraw troops.
__________________________
Your entire argument is mired in casuistry and sophistry. You are neither here nor there.
I asked you straight forward questions but you decided to provide complex non-answers.
Are you religious? Ans; I am spiritual but i don't go to church or admire any preacher. (how does this work?)
2nd question: what are your trusted sources of information? Ans; I don't listen to fox or CNN because the're biased. (you still do not answer the question)

3rd question; are you philosophically liberal or conservative SOCIALLY? ans; I am a mix of both, (you still do not answer the specific question). Except you didn't understand the question. My question meant, do you support equal rights for LGBTQ people? Do you support the militirazation of the police? Do you oppose the repeal of th 2nd amendment and stronger background checks for possession of firearms? Do you support the notion of equality of all humans irrespective of sexes and genders? Do you support the right to choice of a pregnant woman?

These are all part of liberal policies and ideologies. You didn't give any clear answers to any of these.

4th question? What draws you to trump?
You made one point saying he doesn't bother about being politically correct and then went on a garrulous narration of past presidents, still not fully addressing qualities of trump that attracts you to him.

I will admit that i view parts of his foreign policy as favourable, especially considering that all his predecessors initiated meaningless wars and trump has assuaged that a bit but it's a bit of overstretch to say he's a genius when he was literally impeached for self serving foreign policies.

I don't think i would call damaging America's relationship with historical allies such as Germany, French, Canada and Britain while simultaneously cozying up to dictatorial regimes are the brilliant workings of a stable genius.
But as i posited earlier, I admire the fact that he hasn't started any war, although arguments can be made that America pulling out may lead to unforeseen bigger problems, just saying.

Every single data shows trump bleeding supporters.
